Ma fille et moi préparons notre séjour en Malaisie péninsulaire du 1er au 14 mai 2016.
Notre petit périple prévoit car nous souhaitons le terminer sur la côte est pour ses fonds marins propices à la plongée:
- Kuala Lumpur 2 nuits
- Grottes de Batu
- Taman Negara 2 nuits
- Cameron Highlands 2 nuits
- Kota Bharu 2 nuits
- Iles Perhentian 4 nuits
- Kuala Lumpur 1 nuit
- et si possible Putrajaya
Ce circuit ne nous est pas proposé, même en partie selon la loi du tout ou rien, par aucun tour-opérateur, sauf souscrire à un circuit sur mesure avec chauffeur-guide dont le prix dépassera bien indûment notre budget.
Il nous reste donc à réserver les hôtels (déjà sélectionnés) et surtout à trouver les moyens les plus rationnels de nous transporter entre chacune de nos étapes en perdant le moins de temps possible.
Alors, vous allez me suggérez la location d'une voiture .....
Option en effet envisagée, mais
1- est-il possible de louer une voiture à Kuala Lumpur et de la laisser à Tanah Rata (si nous trouvons un bus Tanah Rata - Kota Bharu) ou à Kota Bharu (si nous ne trouvons pas de bus Tanah Rata - Kota Bharu) ?
2- comment et où louer/réserver une voiture à Kuala Lumpur depuis la France.
Par ailleurs, comme nous ne sommes pas des sauvages, nous pouvons envisager de nous joindre à un petit groupe de voyageurs déjà constitué ou de former un petit groupe de voyageurs intéressés à notre projet pour tout ou partie de notre circuit.

Je me pose la même question que vous sur le moyen de rallier KL (ou Malacca en ce qui nous concerne) et Tanah Rata... A priori pas de bus de nuit... dommage c'est du temps de gagné...
Je ne suis pas allée au Taman Negara mais j'ai vu des mini bus ou bus qui y allait depuis un peu partout.. vous devriez trouver facilement.
Je ne suis pas non plus allée à Kota Baru mais pas mal de monde le déconseille...

Les transports entre certaines étapes risquent d'être compliqués pour vous aussi ..... et ce sont bien là nos interrogations.
Aussi des réponse telles que "je ne suis pas allée au Taman Negara mais j'ai vu des mini bus ou bus qui y allait depuis un peu partout.. vous devriez trouver facilement" ne sont pas très contributives.
Par exemple, avez-vous résolu votre transport entre les Cameron Highlands et Penang ? car je peux envisager insérer cette étape à mon circuit, s'il le faut pour gagner en cohérence ?
Par ailleurs, pour avoir utilisé les bus de nuit en Argentine, cama ou semi-cama, ce qui reste à prouver en Malaisie, je ne suis pas une grande fan de ce mode de transport !

Pour rallier Penang ce sera le bus pour nous.
En voyage, nous privilégions toujours ce mode de transport car notre budget transports est volontairement limité.
Sur les forums voyage tout le monde s'accorde à dire que les bus longues distances sont très confortables en Malaisie (mais glaciaux du fait de la clim...). Je suis en train d'étudier la faisabilité d'un transport de nuit pour rallier KL à Tanah Rata (compagnie Transnasional)

Nous réservons les bus à la gare routière que nous indique la guest house où on loge ..
Pour faire Perhentians > Penang nous avons demandé à notre guest house qui nous a réservé les billets .. pour le sens inverse .. il faut soit demander à la guest house soit aller à la gare routière.

Votre trajet me parait réalisable par les transports en commun (en tout cas, le début car je l'ai fait aussi).
Par contre j'ai fait KL puis Cameron Highland puis Taman Negara.
Il faut savoir que le réseau de bus est très fonctionnel en Malaisie.

Il y a l agence Cameruns Secrets qui propose le trajet ... j avais vu cela sur leur site . Nous avons nous décidé d opter de prendre un taxi jusqu'à la gare de gua musang et de faire le trajet en train pour varié un peu...
voici ma contribution à ce post :
-Itinéraire très classique et très réalisable en transports locaux, toutes ces étapes sont très bien reliées entre elles, cependant cela me parait un peu chargé compte tenu du temps passé sur place : 6 étapes en 14 jours c'est trop.
- D une manière générale, quand nous arrivons en bus à une étape, nous réservons tout de suite le prochain trajet en bus pour nous organiser sur place.
-A mon avis, aucun intérêt à rester 2 nuits sur Kota bharu ville laide et peu sympathique, autant passer un jour de plus sur les îles.
- Je ne connais pas le taman négara mais je suis sceptique sur les 2 nuits à passer là bas car dans ton trajet tu n'as pas pris en compte le long temps de trajet pour aller et revenir du TN ( c'est d'aileurs pour cette raison que je ne connais pas)
Si je comprends bien , le 1er jour vous arrivez à Kl ( à quelle heure) vous y passer 2 nuits et le matin du 3 eme jour vous partez pour le TN pour y passer 2 nuits ( mais cela ne fera que un jour sur place.) car ce 3 eme jour sera consacré au trajet, même chose pour en repartir, vous allez passer une journée dans les transports pour arriver dans les Camerons, et vous ne profiterez que le jour d'après puis départ pour Kota Bharu encore une grosse journée de tranbsport, nuit à KB et le matin départ pour les perenthians.
Donc à mon avis, beaucoup de route pour ne reste qu'un jour au final sur les étapes.
Dans mes recherches, j'avais effectivement noté le site cameronsecret.com qui propose effectivement non seulement un transfert vers Kuala Besut mais aussi un "country side tour" .... à voir sur place.
Bien sûr, notre périple comprend des trajets en bus de jour conséquents mais
1- nous ne perdrons aucune minute de notre précieux temps à les trouver sur place puisque nous les avons déjà réservés - exception faite du transfert Tanah Rata <> Kota Bahru
2- pendant que le bus roule, nous profitons du paysage, partie intégrante du voyage
3- depuis que nous avons avalé la poussière de la ruta 40, les distances ne nous effraient plus
3- si nous ne voulions pas nous déplacer un peu, nous resterions dans notre très belle région
Et si Kota Bahru est si aussi laide que vous le soutenez, eh bien nous profiterons de ce petit break pour retirer quelques liquidités et pour acheter quelques provisions avant de gagner les Perenthian et pourquoi pas nous offrir un massage délassant dans un resort luxueux
Finalement, nous maintenons intégralement notre projet initial et renonçons uniquement à Putrajaya.

Les distances en km ne sont pas longues rien à voir avec la ruta 40' par contre les transports prennent beaucoup de temps.
Mon interrogation était plus sur le fait de ne rester qu un jour au final sur presque toutes les étapes , et de rassurer quant aux multiples possibilités de relier chaque étapes entre elles, mais tu as le air d'avoir bien pensé ton itinéraire donc bon voyage.
Et bien c'était tout simplement SUPERBE DEUXPECCABLE ...... même si nous avons du renoncer à Putrajaya et à Batu Cave.
Transports uniquement en bus sauf retour Kota Bharu - Kuala Lumpur effectué en avion sur Air Asia.
La responsable de la gare des bus de Tanah Rata est une indienne très coquette et dégourdie qui nous a déniché le seul bus que nous n'avions ni trouvé ni réservé sur internet avant notre départ pour relier Tanah Rata à Kota Bharu via Ipoh ..... long trajet !
Très chaud à Kuala Tahan et à Kota Bharu où les gens qui ne parlent et ne comprennent pas un traitre mot d'anglais sont réellement adorables .... le marché est un trésor dans lequel nous avons fait provision de citrons et de limes (lemon juice oblige 😉) et de savoureux ananas que nous avons emportés aux Pérenthian.
Je pourrais vous parler des jours entiers de notre séjour sur Besar ......😎
Nous confirmons nos choix de Besar par rapport à Kecil et du Tuna Bay Island Resort dont la plage attenante très corallienne est un véritable aquarium et la direction non musulmane (donc un bar avec alcools et du café what else .... si si !!!) est très dynamique et très prévenante par rapport au Perenthian Island Resort à la direction musulmane et mollassonne.
Nous étions trop cuites par le soleil pour aller explorer le Coral View Resort qui possède l'avantage de donner sur deux plages dont la magnifique Main Beach.
Nous avons toujours fort bien mangé des barbecues de poissons frais locaux au Barat, au Tuna Bay et surtout mon petit coup de coeur au New Cocohut.
Nous recommandons le club de plongée entre le Barat et le Mama's.
Ne surtout pas manquer une sortie snorkelling dans les petites îles au nord-ouest de Kecil ..... EXTRAORDINAIRE ..... perroquets, clowns, requins pointe noire, napoléons, etc.... et la petite plage située entre Main Beach et Turtle Beach rien que pour nous le matin avant l'arrivée en masse des plongeurs en gilet de sauvetage ..... vous comprendrez quand vous y serez 😉
Et surtout oh surtout !!!! n'oubliez jamais, même si vous plongez, je dirais même surtout si vous plongez, de vous tartiner de crème solaire indice what mille douze water resist of course !

Alors puisque vous le proposez j'ai bien quelques petites questions :
Nous allons devoir passer une nuit à Kota Bharu (la veille de notre vol K Bahru-Kuching). Avez-vous une adresse à me communiquer ? Où avez-vous logé ?
Nous aurons quelques heures seulement dans cette ville avant de rejoindre l'aéroport : le central market est-il pour vous LE lieu à visiter pendant ce laps de temps.

Ca tombe bien, c'est justement au New Cocohut que nous pensons réserver notre hébergement (3 nuits sur place). Toutefois je suis un peu dubitative sur le mode de réservation... le site "voyages sncf" propose un tarif attractif... comment avez-vous réservé votre hébergement svp ?

A Kota Bharu, nous avons logé dans un Studio & Suite climatisé (ouf !!!!!) trouvé pour un prix défiant toute concurrence sur Booking.com et situé comme nombreux de ses semblables dans un immeuble récent de Jalan Hilir Pasar à quelques rues du marché central Pasar Siti Khadijah, de la gare routière et de Jalan Mahmood.
Attention aux horaires d'ouverture du marché central fermé le soir et aux odeurs du secteur "poisson" !
Pour une halte de quelques heures dans Kota Bharu, il n'y a effectivement QUE le marché central à visiter ! Inutile de perdre votre temps au Kampung Kraftangan.
Nous fiant uniquement sur notre intuition, nous pensions trouver aisément le marché de nuit ..... que nenni !!!! aussi, comme nous étions épuisées par la chaleur et que nous ne voulions pas errer vainement trop longtemps, nous nous sommes arrêtées en terrasse du PK Corner, au carrefour de Jalan Kebun Sultan et de Jalan Tok Hakim, attirées par les plats appétissants et les odeurs alléchantes, pour le plus grand bonheur de nos papilles et de nos estomacs (et de notre bourse)
A ce grand carrefour, vous trouverez aussi une Maybank sur Jalan Mahmood.
Au New Cocohut, si votre budget vous y autorise, je vous conseille les chalets sur la plage, épargnés par les moustiques nombreux dans la colline bien végétalisée.
Faute de disponibilité suffisante sur Booking.com, nous avons réservé directement sur le site internet du Tuna Bay, hébergement, bateau aller-retour et transfert en taxi Kuala Besut Jetty / Kota Bharu aéroport, après échange de quelques courriels efficaces, pas moins ni plus cher mais assurément plus simple et moins chronophage.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
Where do I board, and where does it drop me off?

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?
