Hi there,
I'm currently planning our trip to Morocco for next May.
We're looking to explore a part of the country we haven't visited yet, and I'd love to get some opinions or tips for my itinerary.
We'll have a rental Duster to get around.
-1- Marrakech to the Paradise Valley, arriving in the late afternoon. 2 nights there so we can explore the next day.
-2- From Paradise Valley to Tafraout.
Along the way, we'd like to visit some agadirs (Ikounka, Imeghguiguilne, Ighir, Tizourgane). I'm wondering if we'll have time to see them all, if we should visit all of them or skip some? Or if there are other suggestions?
-3- I plan to stay 3 nights in Tafraout.
Night 1 we might arrive late.
The following days to visit the village of Tagdicht, the Blue Rocks, and the Ait Mansour Valley.
Doable? Road or track conditions? Too much or too little time? Anything else to see?
-4- I was thinking of taking the road to visit the underground village of Icht.
Then heading to Tata to visit the Tollé and/or Messalites caves.
Same questions as before (road conditions, time, anything else)?
-5- Road to Tissint for a walk.
Road to Taliouine to visit the Glaoui kasbah.
Spend the night around there.
Same questions?
-6- Road and visit to the Ifri granary.
Then head to a part of Morocco we already know :-)
Anyway, quite a few questions...
Since we've been to Morocco several times before, I know there won't be any issues once we're there.
It's just that I'm trying to plan ahead a bit so we don't miss what there is to see in the area, without rushing too much ;-)
Before COVID, I visited quite a few places.
Regarding IKOUNKA and its double walls, even though I was with a villager, I couldn’t get in.
As for IMGUIGUENGUEN, I was only able to visit it clandestinely once, after a local told me how to get in "around 2017/18."
Since my last visits in 2022/23, it’s still closed due to money disputes among villagers, each trying to take control.
Maybe the issue has been resolved since then?
Very beautiful and large

Thanks so much for this info!
I’ve actually passed by it several times—it’s really visible from the road between Bouigra and Tafraoute, even from quite a distance.
Gorgeous spot. I’d totally forgotten the name!

Hi there,
Apart from the flea-market sites, which I’m not familiar with, a lightweight vehicle is plenty since you won’t be taking any dirt roads.
Everything’s paved.
In May, the weather’s gorgeous.
Near Tata, I recommend two excursions:
The Ait Kine affair in the center of the village. Across from it, there’s a women’s cooperative where you can buy saffron and other products at great prices.
The Agouliz gorges are magnificent if you enjoy walking. You leave your car near the mosque and then head upstream on foot, following the oued—it’s really stunning! You can either follow the course of the oued or take a path that runs along the mountainside. About 1 hour of walking.
For both excursions, the road is a bit damaged in some places due to recent floods, but I had no issues driving it in October with a Logan.
In Tata, the Relais des Sables is excellent.
I’m making a note of the Agouliz Gorges—I had no idea they existed. We’ll definitely be in a Dacia. Hopefully it’ll handle the roads. Thanks for letting us know about this little spot—it looks absolutely stunning!
Yeah, it works
The ideal route is to go up via the riverbed and return via the mountain path—two completely different views.
There’s a guide who wants to accompany you, but it’s not really necessary. Just follow the riverbed, and you’ll come across farmers along the way if you’re unsure.
Ait Kine and Agouliz are really nice and totally tourist-free!
