Layover time in Rhodes between two ferries

Hi there,

I'm trying to plan a little Greek getaway in early summer, and it's a tad complicated—connections from Sitia to Rhodes via Karpathos are only twice a week (and not on the days that work for me!). I gave up on the idea of Kastelorizo, which isn’t that easy to reach either, and replaced it with Symi, which has a daily connection—even several—to Rhodes, where I’d like to spend as little time as possible. I found a boat leaving Symi at 8:15 AM and arriving in Rhodes at 9:35 AM. The ferry to Karpathos leaves the same day at 11:00 AM. That’s 1 hour and 25 minutes to switch boats. It’s tempting because it’s a perfect sequence, but I’m wondering if it’s still a bit too tight.

Do Sebeco Lines’ speedboats arrive at the same port where Blue Star ferries depart? Are they punctual?

Hi Catherine

Yes, the boats leave from the same port. 1h25 is indeed short but still doable. That said, it obviously doesn’t account for any potential delays that you can’t really predict. Even if the boats are usually on time, all it takes is one time—and it happens to be yours! Let’s just say that if you have a Plan B or don’t mind missing the boat and waiting for the next one, you can take that risk.

Hi Eleni,

Thanks for the reply. I’m kinda counting on the fact that the Symi–Rhodes ferry is the first boat of the morning, so it’s less likely to be delayed, and that the Blue Star will leave from Rhodes, so it shouldn’t be early. Never had storms at this time of year. The only wild card is a technical issue with the boat...

Plan B is to go back to Rhodes the night before on the last ferry, but I have such awful memories of Rhodes evenings that I’m really reluctant to do that.

I’ll think about it.

Thanks!

We don’t know if the Symi-Rhodes ferry is the first one in the morning—it could very well be coming from somewhere else before and have accumulated some delay. Let’s hope everything goes smoothly, and I’m sure it will!

Have a great trip

Hi,

On ne sait pas si le Symi-Rhodes est le premier du matin, il peut très bien venir d'ailleurs avant et avoir accumulé du retard.

Yes, it does leave from Symi, that’s for sure. The two high-speed boats from Sebeco only do the Rhodes-Symi route and back. That day, one leaves Symi at 8:15 AM and the other leaves Rhodes at 9:00 AM. Just FYI, I also found a boat rental company in Symi that offers private transfers to Rhodes. A *very* expensive Plan B, but still a Plan B.

Thanks and have a great Sunday!
