Nous partons en Islande mi-août pour 15 jours. Nous avons loué une petite voiture et comptons faire le tour de l'île.
Pour l'hébergement, ce sera camping ! On s'interroge pour la tente : nous avons une quechua 2'... Elle a résisté à l'Ecosse, saura-t-elle survivre à l'Islande ?? 😐
Saisis d'un gros doute, nous recherchons des personnes qui auraient fait ce voyage avec ce type de matériel (ou en auraient rencontré).
De plus, concernant le matériel, on s'interroge également sur les sacs de couchages. Que pensez vous de sacs avec pour température de confort : +6° C, avec utilisation de "sacs à viande" (sachant qu'on ne fera pas de treck, et probablement qu'une seule étape "intérieure" d'une nuit au Landmanallaugar) ?
Pas fait encore ce voyage (il commence dans 24h) donc ce message devra attendre confirmation par un expert en la matière.
J'ai lu ou entendu des témoignages sur ça justement récemment : la tente 2 secondes c'est peut être faisable (certains le font), mais c'est une galère pas possible. Le vent peut être très violent et je ne suis pas convaincu de la qualité de la structure en zone extrême. Egalement, il y a de grandes chances qu'elle s'envole au moment du repliage qui peut prendre un peu de temps dans ces conditions...

Concernant le vent, si je vois bien la difficulté pour le "repliage", il me semble qu'il ne doit pas être bien facile non plus de démonter une tente "traditionnelle" dans les mêmes conditions climatiques (?).
Sur ce point, si des experts veulent bien se prononcer...

Personnellement je ne campe pas en Islande (bien que j'apprécie le camping ailleurs)… Trop froid, trop de vent.
S'il fait beau ça ira. S'il fait mauvais tout votre matos sera trop juste, tente et duvets…

Le problème avec l'Islande, c'est que quand il fait beau, il fait très beau, mais il peut aussi faire très mauvais. Partir avec une tente 2 seconds est un risque... qui peut s'avérer gagnant si l'été est clément, mais qui peut devenir galère s'il y a une tempête (et ça arrive souvent en Islande!). Dans ce cas là deux solutions : soit dormir dans la voiture (nous l'avons fait à plusieurs reprises et ce, même avec une tente adaptée!), soit acheter une tente adpatée qui vous évitera bien des galères (pulvérisation de la tente par une tempête, ou explosion des coutures). A vous de voir... Mais la deuxième solution semble plus appropriée, surtout si vous voulez faire un peu de marche et vous retrouver dans des endroits isolés 😉
Voila des réponses qui ne m'arrangent pas vraiment et confirment ce que je craignais.
Comme on ne va pas planter des cierges durant tout le voyage en priant pour que le temps ne soit pas trop pourri, je crois qu'on est bien parti pour investir dans une nouvelle tente... et creuser un peu plus notre budget.

Je confirme à nouveau ce qui est dit plus haut, je rentre d'Islande à l'instant.
Les vents peuvent être vraiment violents, et tournent constamment avec le relief.. Difficile donc de s'abriter sous une tente de ce type... :(
Pour avoir testé la tente 2 secondes lors de vent violent, je la trouve au contraire plutôt intéressante: elle se plie mais ne casse pas, et quand il pleut, il est appréciable d'avoir une tente qui "pop" et dans laquelle on peut rentrer immédiatement sans être trempé. Le repliage prend moins d'une minute quand on a l'habitude, et comme il n'y a pas de manipulation à faire type séparation arceaux/toile, elle ne risque pas de s'envoler.
De plus si on part avec la voiture, on peut mettre la tente derrière pour l'abriter du vent dominant.
J'ai donc choisit de l'emmener, je suis dans le même cas: voiture de location + tente 😇

Comme vous j'y vais samedi avec une tente decat 2 secondes (3 places). Je suis dans le doute pour le transport de la tente ...
Concernant le duvet, je prendrais une température de confort voisine de 0 degré.
Au camping de Reykjavik (plus d'une semaine sous la tente) , j ai très bien supporté mon duvet 0 <-> -6 degrés confort, fermé jusqu'en haut avec un sac a viande.
Pour notre part, nous avons acheté un immense sac tout fin, dans lequel nous avons mis le sac de rando, et la tente 2sec. C'est passé comme un seul sac, et il nous a coûté 30 euros donc rentable par rapport à l'achat/location de tente.
Sur place, nous avons campé 2 semaines, avec du grand vent (90-100km/h), de la pluie (pendant plusieurs jours d'affilée), et nous n'avons jamais eu de problème.
Je pense que ça tient bien le coup, le seul problème c'est qu'on ne peut pas randonner avec. Mais c'est bien pratique quand il pleut de pouvoir monter rapidement la tente sans être trempé.
Et je confirme, le sac de couchage 0° n'est pas un luxe, si on peut se permettre -5° ou moins, je pense d'ailleurs que ça ne peut pas faire de mal. Nous avons eu plusieurs nuits à 0°.
Oui elle tient le choc si les conditions ne sont pas extrême.
Après il faut juste voir si le cout de location d'un tente revient moins cher que le bagage supplémentaire (dans mon cas pour une semaine c'était plus rentable la location.
On ne peux pas non plus randonné avec la tente decat.
Par contre au niveau vitesse de montage la tente 2 seconde est plus pratique comme dit précédemment.
Je reviens juste des rocheuses canadiennes, où la journée nous avons souvent dû porter pull + polaire + blouson, alors que la nuit dans la tente 2 s de Décathlon et les duvets Queshua Arpenaz 10° à 40 euros sur Amazon il nous arrivait d'avoir trop chaud! Le 100% coton est imparable! Et dans les Rocheuses le "point de rosée" atteignait péniblement les 6 degrés.
En revanche, s'il a fait froid, nous n'avons pas eu de tempêtes, et pour la pluie, une bâche couvrait la tente (pourquoi ne pas se procurer une bâche sur place). Pour l'avion, la tente a simplement dû être enregistrée aux bagages hors format, un guichet plus loin. En toute honnêteté, je ne vous conseille pas d'investir dans du matos sans vous être rendu compte sur place de la situation; et dans le cas où ce soit vraiment la cata, alors peut-être renouveler le matériel camping là-bas et ne ramener ensuite bien sûr que le nouveau. Bonne prépa.

I’ve planned a three-week itinerary for this summer, from August 9 to 27, in Sri Lanka:
Negombo – 1 night
Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle – 4 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Tangalle – 6 nights
Colombo Airport – 1 night
I know this isn’t the ideal time for the south since the beach conditions aren’t great, but we’ve booked a hotel with a pool and won’t be swimming in the sea. We want to relax after all the travel since we’re bringing our two kids, aged 6 and 8.
I know the east would be better, but (i) I’m struggling to find suitable accommodation, and (ii) it adds a lot of travel time, and my kids can only handle about 3 hours at a stretch.
I looked into Arugam Bay, but it’s a 7-hour trip back to Colombo from there.
I’ve checked every weather site imaginable, but they don’t all agree. Do you think we’ll spend our whole trip in the rain, or is the monsoon in the south mostly limited to the sea, as I’ve read?
I’m worried about ending up in the middle of a natural disaster with my two young kids, given recent events.

I’ve planned a trip to Asia for the first half of November.
I’ll arrive in Singapore at the start of November for about 3 days, and I’ll leave from Bangkok in mid-November.
In between, I’d like to gradually head north to visit some less touristy islands on the Thai coast.

Just giving you the quick context: A group of friends and I are planning a trip to South Korea (Seoul/Busan) at the end of June/July next year. It falls right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we don’t really have other availability options.😕
I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

Personally, I see a promising opportunity here—jumping on this adaptation to extreme climates before others do, since they’re inevitably coming.
From my own travel experience, I’ve met a few guides so far who are starting to adjust, like in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, and elsewhere.
They avoid crowds and the hottest hours by starting their tours around 6–7 AM, when it’s cooler.
Yeah, you’ve gotta wake up early, but the payoff is so worth it. 😴
If you’ve got any great tips like this, why not discuss them in this thread and share addresses or websites where the people in charge have realized climate change is real and are adapting? 😊

Hello, We’re heading to Finnish Lapland near Rovaniemi as a family at the end of February with two kids (8 and 14 years old). We’ve got direct flights with Luxairstours. The itinerary is already set, but I’m wondering if anyone has traveled with Luxair before and knows exactly what kind of clothes they provide on the second day? The agency just told me it’s a heavy-duty cold-weather suit. I’m thinking we should get Sorel Caribou boots, maybe second-hand. Here’s what I’ve already planned:
- Thermolactyl leggings and tights from Damart for the whole family as a base layer.
- A first layer of Damart socks + Nordic Stocks socks in 70% merino wool for all four of us.
- Loose fleece layers, including some Polartec.
- Ski pants for hikes.
- For my son and me, a The North Face Himalayan down parka with a hood.
- A ski parka for my husband and my 14-year-old daughter (she *really* wants a Roxy one—I hope it’ll be warm enough).
- For myself, for the flight and the first day at Santa’s village, I’ve packed The North Face winter hiking pants, a long-sleeve merino wool top from Decathlon (thin), a fleece, and my big parka.
I’m wondering if I should just pack fleece joggers or sweatpants for the kids and my husband, at least for the first and last days, to be comfortable on the plane?
I’m also planning to buy balaclavas and neck warmers in addition to our beanies, as well as mittens for all of us. I really need advice because I have no idea—I’ve never been skiing! Also, for a 4-night, 5-day trip, should I pack a second set of base layers, like from Odlo?
Of course, I’ll be leaving cotton clothes out of the suitcase.
As you can tell, I’m someone who gets cold easily—especially my feet, hands, and ears—so that’s my biggest worry. I *don’t* want to be cold, even at -20°C during dog sledding, snowmobiling, or aurora hunting when we might be standing still. We won’t be in the city, and the kids will likely spend most of their time outside, as they usually do.
