desolé pour les faute pas trop de temps de relire....
projet initial :
3j à bangkok + excursion 4-5 j dans le nord + 9j kho samui + retour bangkok pour 3j
fait depuis la france : vol thai direct de paris à bkk pour 623 euro/pers via lastminute resa hotel Royal Benja 3j sur le site hotel travel 30 dollars la nuits pour 2 resa vol A/R bkk - Kho Samui sur le site de bangkok airways : 90 euro / pers resa bungalow a kho samui sur chaweng beach au MONTIEN HOUSE : 1900 bht la nuit (38 euro)

décollage à 14h30. Pas de pbl de vol, repas sympas, film .. me souvient plus. 11H30 plus tard, atterissage a bangkok (bkk) un peu naze (7h du mat 23/08).
Direction les TAXI METERS (merci le routard). On esquive les sollicitations directes pour nous amener à notre hotel.
On elbarque, le taxi n emet pas le compteur. Je lui demande le pris : 300 bath - ok - de toute facon on est dedans.
1er depaysement sur le trajet : les buildings, le monde => la fourmilliere koi ! mes yeux s'ecarquillent devant tous ce que je vois (vendeur de nourriture sur la route (je m'y ferai vite après !!), flic en plein milieu de l'autoroute) .. berf un peu le bordel, mais pas d'agressivité ou de stress apparent (fo dire qu'on est naze).
Arrivé à l'hotel Royal Benja sur Sukhumvit - soi 5. C'est tres urbains. L'hotel est au fond du soi.Il est est bien, assez luxueux. Bien reecu. Chambre grande et nickel au 23eme etage, avec vue sur SKYTRAIN et bangkok.
On se repose un peu, et on sort .....
On se promene, on se perd un peu : suis totalement depaysé !!!
On mange dans un petit centre commercial (NANA PLAZA) pour 100 bath a 2 !!!
Ensuite recharche agence de voyage sur place pour notre excursion dans le nord.
On cherche et on tombe sur une agence parlant francais dans le soi NANA (rue de l'hotel NANA).
Resa pour 1j AYUTHAYA et 4j CHiang MAi / Chiang RAI avec aller en bus et rtour en train de nuit. Le guide nous accueillera à CHIANG MAI.
Balade et retour à l'hotel pour dodo !
Le quartier : pas mal; acce train facile. Seule Hic, c'est un peu l'endroit ou il y a des gogo bars (pas notre soit, mais surtout nana). No comment sur ce sujet.
PAs de pbl de securité dans le quartier, on s'y sent a l'aise.

depart en taxi meter pour la visite des temps. ON lui demande de nous deposer dans le CHINATOWN (Yawarat). ON se ballade, on hallucine, fais un peu chaud, mais c sympa !.
Ensuite direction a pied le bato bus sur la riviere chao praya. Bond on embarque pas dans le bon sens .. mdr .. On prend enfin la direction du temps WAT PHRA KEO. Depose du bato taxi (super bien) et marche jusqu'au temple.
Visite pendant 2-3h, c tres jolie. Ensuite dej (pas cher) et marche a pied piour le temps à cote (me souvvient pkus du nom) Tres jolie aussi;
Retour a l'hotel via bato Bus + taxi (taxi on a pleurer avec les bouchons) Et les taxi sont pas chaud pour faire le centre=> sukhumvit vers 17h : trop de monde.
Bref, on arrive, on mange, on dort !

Depart AYUThAYA en bus (grand bus) avexc guide thai parlant que anglais.
1ER arret dans un palais royal, superbe.
ENsuite visite ruine AYUTHAYA chouette.
Embarquement sur bateau pour retour BKK sur chao praya. 3h de traverser avec repas buffet à volonté. Tres bien, tres agréable. Ca faisait un peut trop touristique, mais c'etait quand meme bien.
26/08 depart en bus pour CHIANG MAI.
12h de bus (assez confortable) Repas compris (TOILETTE du BUS CA FAIT PEUUR !!)
C'etait long, mais on a pu voir un peu de thailande (mieux que l'avion).
Vhaing Mai, la guide thai parlant francais nous accueil et amene à l'hotel LANNA HOTEL a cote du marché de nuit. Tres bien. On sort, on mange et on se couche.
27/08 : depart pour chiang RAI en minibus (y'avais que nous 2 !)
Arret a une source d'eau chaude.
Arrivé 12h à l'hotel de chiang RAI
Depose bagage. Depart pour repas dans hotel. TREs bien. Ensuite emabrquement sur un petit bateau. Traversé de 45m.
Arrivé dans village pour ballade en elephant. Toujourws que nous, pas d'autres touristes, super !
Stop au toilette car le piment du midi nous a .... Ballade dans les colline et dans la jungle a dos d'elephant pendant 2h. C marrant, mais ca fait mal au c ... ! arrivé dans un village. ON achete 2-3 truc, et on repart en taxi collectif avec la guide. DODO HOTEL.
28/08
depart pour palais de la mere du roi dans la montagne, tres tres jolie. Ensuite dierction forntiere MYANMAR (la c l'arnaque ...) ensuite depart pour trinagle d'or. Une peu touriste, mais pas trop de monde alors ca allait. Repas. Depart pour chaing MAI. Arrivé au meme hotel.

visite village, temple, fabrication artisanale du coin (c la sécialité de la région).
On nous pioussait un peu a l'achat => pas trop apprecié, meme si c'est compréhensible.
La guide nous lache à la gare à 15h piour un train à 18h ...merci ...
Depart en train couchette. Tres bien. Arrivé bkk à 7h30.

BKK au royal benja (reservation faite sur place mais sur internet via hotel travel :bcp bcp bcp moins cher qu'en direct !)
amis de passage a bkk. On se reytrouve, massaeg thai dans institut SUPER BIEN.

depart 4h du mat de l'hotel pour aerorport Avion 6h pour kho samui.
1h de vol.
Prise en chareg à laeroprot. Arrivée au MONTIEN HOUSE.
Cool, ca va etre repos !!
1/08 -> 09/08 : Kho samui
au pgm repos, manger (fruit de mer sur la plage la nuit c super, ou meme dans les petites gargotes, et dessert MATABA banane chocolat a 25 bht le soit TROP BOOOOOOOOOn !)
Excursion 1j à archipel nathong. ballade en kayak, dej sur bateau, mer verte, lac salé supoerbe (vue dans THE BEACH je crois). Genial. 75 euo pour 2 je crois, mais je suis plus sur).
Location de scooter 200 bht/j pour ballade dans l'ile (grand father et grand mother rock ...marrant, big buddha beach ..)
09/08 decollage 7h pour BKK.
Arrivée au royal benja.
On ne se fait plus avpoir par les taxi, on mange dans la rue, on discute, on connait bkk comme notre poche, on a l'impression d'etre a la maison... des vrai thai quoi !! (non j'deconne, mais on etait bien quand meme)
direction les centre commerciaux pour shopping+ballade
10/08 marche de chatuchak. Avec skytrain (c super et mieux que le taxi). On y reste 3h au moins, et on a paspu tout faire.
Visite du vinmamek mansion (palais dans bkk) tres jolie.
Retour hotel.
Ensuite depart au la plus grand tour de bkk : 309m !! dej buffet a volo, té au 76eme etage. Vue de nuit sur BKK SUPERBE
11/08 : depose clé chambre à 12h
on squat les centres commerciaux (le mieux est le MBK )
Retour 19h a l'hotel, on attend dans le all.
20 h taxi direction l'aeroport.
On s'ocuppe comme on peu - on mange-
00h05 le 12/08
Arrivée paris à 7h (greve, bouchon, ca rale, pas un sourrire ...) on est DEGOUTER de rentrer !!!
Conclusion :
superbe voyage.
On est pas des 100%routards, mais on aime pas trop les trucs touristes en groupe.
On a organisé notre voyage, avec petit fute, routard et lonely.
On s'est débrouillé tous seul (resa, vfisite ...) sauf a chiang mai/chaing RAI.
La thailande est tres chouette, les gens sympas, pas de pbl de securité, on mange bien, bref allez y sans pbl !!
nous partons pour la thailande le 22 février prochain et comptons se débrouiller sur place pour l'achat d'un forfait dans le nord. pourrais-je savoir combien ça vous a couté votre forfait pour chang-mai et si vous vous rappeler le nom et adresse de l'agence sur NANA öu vous avez achetez le forfait?

J'ai donc fais la resa sur un pc connecte à internet dans le hall de l'hotel, et je suis retourné au comptoir, c'etait ok !!!
montien house : l'hotel est tres bien.
a l'ecart du bruit (pas de boite de nuit avec musique forte) mais à 5 minutes à pieds de la principale rue de chaweng (restau, commercant ..;)
Pour le restau de l'hotel : super agreable le petit dej au bord de la plage.
la piscine nickel.
les transat : coté pile, cote face à la piscine, coté face face la mer .. trop dure la vie ..!!
La plage en face : bien., mais mieux vaut marcher 5-10 m sur la droite, plage plus propice à la baignade.
Pour manger le soir : il suffit de marcher sur la plage, choisir son restau et ses fruits de mer !
C'est toujours plaisant, voire rafraîchissant de lire le récit de quelqu'un qui découvre un nouveau pays. Parce que pour lui, tout est sujet à étonnement, à émerveillement. A frustration aussi parfois...
La première fois que je suis allé en Thaïlande, je faisais des yeux grands comme ça. 😮 C'est tellement différent de ce qu'on connait ici. C'était il y a vachement longtemps (21 ans). Je m'étais fait arnaquer grave à Bangkok, mais ça c'est une autre histoire. Jeune et sans expérience. 😊
C'est vrai que lors d'un premier voyage, quand on revient une 2e fois ou une 3e fois dans la capitale, on est les rois du monde. Tu as 100 fois raison. En réalité, il y a 1000 choses qu'on ne sait pas encore, mais on a pris le pouls, on connaît un peu le prix des choses, on a découvert le mode d'emploi du Sky Train !🙂 C'est totalement jouissif...
La première fois (en 1985 donc), j'ai pris une excursion organisée pour Ayutthaya + Bang Pa In (retour en minibus et pas en bateau avec buffet à volonté malheureusement !!!), et une autre le lendemain pour Damnoen Saduak + Rose Garden (ben oui, je sais, l'autoroute touristique, mais bon...). Quelle ne fut pas ma surprise de constater que dans les 2 cas, on est repassé au retour par la même boutique de pierres précieuses, où on est resté beaucoup trop longtemps à mon goût, et où l'intérêt de l'agence était visiblement de vous faire aller le plus souvent possible dans votre portefeuille de façon à prendre une commission sur les éventuels achats. Ce jour-là, j'ai décidé que les excursions organisées, c'était terminé (Je mens, j'en ai encore pris une pour la baie de Phang Nga au départ de Phuket l'année suivante). Bon, ceci c'est juste une anecdote. Ne pas y voir une critique quelconque sur celui qui choisit une excursion à un moment ou à un autre de son voyage. Ca fait gagner du temps, c'est indéniable. Mais il faut aussi en accepter les inconvénients.
Dans le Nord, tu as vu la maison de la mère du Roi du côté de la région de Mae Sai. La vue qu'on se paie depuis la terrasse en bois, et le jardin (parc) en contrebas !! J'en ferais bien ma résidence secondaire. Juste pour le week-end !...
Ton programme dans le Nord ressemble un peu à des travaux forcés. 🤪 Je comprends que tu as vu arriver Ko Samui comme une bénédiction. Tu n'auras passé que quelques heures à Chiang Mai si j'ai bien compris. J'aime bien quand tu dis 'on sort, on mange, on se couche'... C'est vrai que Chiang Mai, c'est très touristique, mais la région est belle, de même que là bas tout au Nord ou encore vers Mae Hong Son. Prends le temps de louer une petite moto pour partir à la découverte du coin où tu loges.
La prochaine fois, au lieu de 4-5 jours dans le Nord et 9 jours sur une île, fais plutôt l'inverse, 9 jours dans le Nord et 4-5 jours sur une île...
T'as envie d'y retourner ? Je comprends ça. Depuis 1985, j'y suis retourné plusieurs fois. Soit seulement en Thaïlande, soit en 'utilisant' le pays comme base pour aller ailleurs dans la région. 20 ans plus tard, je ne suis pas lassé par la Thaïlande, il y a encore 1000 endroits à découvrir... L'année dernière, même si la majorité de mon voyage, c'était le Vietnam, j'ai quand même passé quelques jours en Thaïlande avant pour aller à Sakhon Nakhon et Nakhon Phanom voir le Festival des Châteaux de cire et le défilé de bateaux sur le Mekong (pleine lune octobre), puis quelques jours après pour le Loy Kratong Festival (pleine lune novembre). Et crois-moi, c'était extraordinaire... D'ailleurs, là tout de suite, je viens de craquer, et je repars 4 semaines très prochainement. Je vais débarquer en plein pendant le Songkran Festival (nouvel an) où les gens passent leur temps à se mettre des litres d'eau sur la tête. Surtout sur la tête des autres d'ailleurs... J'ai le souvenir de douches mémorables dans le Nord, près de la frontière laotienne... Le terme de 'rafraîchissant' que j'utilisais en début de message, je pourrais le replacer ici aussi...

Mais au Sirroco pas obliger de manger pour voir Bangkok de la haut il y a un bar très bien avec de bons coktails ou autres boissons . et pareil pour le Bayoke mais pas de bar tout en haut tu as un tapis roulant qui tourne et tu vois Bangkok à 335 mètres de hauteur au 84ème étages, le bar se trouve au 77ème .

C'est intéressant de visiter le Bayoke II car au 64 ème étages je crois il y a un petit musée d'explications comment le Bayoke à été construit et la liste des plus grands gratte ciel du monde et une petite exposition . Il faut payer pour les ascenseurs un forfait et tu as droit d'aller boire un verre gratuit au bar après la visite au 77 ème de là tu contemples Bangkok en sirotant ton verre .

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
