Khorat Pattaya, je ne sais pas, mais pour Khorat Trat :
Khorat-Chantaburi (304B), environ 5h30/6h de trajet puis de Chantaburi (57B), encore 1h et demie.
Entre Khorat et Chantaburi, il me semble avoir vu 5 bus dans la journée, mais il faudrait te le faire reconfirmer...

Petit extrait de mon carnet de voyage à propos de ce trajet :
J'arrive à 9h15 à la gare routière, je viens de rater le bus. Le prochain est a 11h30. Nous partons donc a 12h (heure thaïe :-)). La commence ce que j'appelle une expérience...
Les transports entre grandes villes sont relativement aises mais entre ville de province c'est un peu plus épique...
Le bus doit proposer environ 50 places assises, elles sont toutes occupées. On installe des tabourets en plastique dans l'allée... Les gens s'installent, puis d'autres arrivent encore, et encore d'autres en cours de route, si bien que rapidement, les tabourets valsent les gens sont debout.
Je prends pitié d'un petit loulou qui doit avoir 7-8 ans et me serre pour lui faire une petite place à cote de moi. En fait faut vraiment que je me serre car la garce qui est a cote de moi a décidé de ne pas se pousser. Je vais donc voyager 6 heures en équilibre sur une moitié de fesse, à essayer de ne pas écraser ce petit bonhomme...
Je vous passe les détails de la température dans le bus mais vous imaginez qu'a 70 ou 80 personnes, la clim ne change rien...
6 heures plus tard, me voila a mon point de correspondance, Chantaburi. Il doit me rester environ 1h30 de voyage mais je dois prendre un autre bus.
Nous sommes une 60aine de personnes à attendre... un minibus ! Pas plus de 30 personnes assises... Je commence à sourire, je dois déposer mon sac a dos dans les soutes, je monte donc parmi les derniers et hérite d'une toute petite place dans l'allée, debout en équilibre sur la pointe des pieds. On se fait engueuler par la nana qui vend les tickets parce qu'il faut que tout le monde monte...
l'hallu... je continue de me marrer.
Puis le chauffeur arrive enfin, on peut partir ! Et la tenez vous bien, le mec est borgne !!! Véridique !!
Entre la fatigue, les nerfs, la situation, je craque et suis prise d'un fou rire incontrôlable, je ris, je pleure de rire, je n’y vois plus rien...
Autour de moi personne ne comprend ce qui m'arrive mais mon fou rire est contagieux, tout le monde se marre aussi ! Du coup, 2 petits jeunes prennent pitié de moi et me font une petite place à cote d'eux, je me glisse comme je peux.
Arrivée sur Trat à 20h. Sacrée journée et sacré voyage !
J'ai vu que tu cherchais aussi des infos sur Nang Rong. Je suis allée à Phanom Rung depuis Khorat (bonjour l'expédition !! mais j'étais super motivée...), mais le bus que j'ai pris passait par Nang Rong, c'est une ville assez grande, et même si je n'ai pas d'adresse à te conseiller, je pense que tu n'auras pas de mal à te loger.
En plus, je doute que beaucoup de monde prévoit une étape dans cette ville (à tort à mon avis, car c'est un peu le parcours du combattant depuis Khorat ou Surin)...
En revanche, sur place, location d'un 2 roues indispensable !! Je ne l'ai pas fait, j'étais donc limitée dans mes déplacements... 🙁
Or les alentours valent vraiment le coup !!
Quant à Phanom Rung... de très loin le plus beau temple khmer visité en Thailande !! La vue autour est tout simplement à couper le souffle...
Merci pour l’information sur Nang Rong, du coup j’appréhende un peu moins de m’y pointer sans réservation (mais je vais sans doute tenter cette dernière si j’arrive à évaluer ma date d’arrivée dans cette bourgade).
Pour ce qui est de la location d’un deux roues faut-il que ce dernier soit nécessairement à moteur ? Je n’ai pour l’instant connu que les vélos et les machins motorisés me font peur… 😕
Concernant les temples j’avais bien évidemment aussi songé à Phimai (que tu as certainement visité) mais aussi au plus exotique Phra Viharn. 😊
Après avoir lu le récit de ton expédition jusqu’à Trat (as-tu enchaîné aussitôt par une traversée nocturne vers Ko Chang ?) je crois que je vais commencer à étudier l’option « étape à Chanthaburi ». 🤪
Si j’opte pour Pattaya j’étudierai l’option « étape à Aranya Prathet » (après probablement Nang Rong ) 🙂

De Nang Rong, je dirais qu'il y a à mon avis une 20aine de km jusqu'au temple de Phanom rung. Et le temple est perché sur un ancien volcan, inutile de te dire que ça grimpe sec sur les derniers 3-4 km !
Phimai... Pourquoi pas, c'est très joli aussi mais honnetement après Phanom Rung, ça fait un peu pâle figure... Quant à Phra Viharn, pas sûre que ce soit le bon moment pour y aller ce moment !! 😕
En ce qui concerne les bus, depuis Khorat, tu n'auras vraiment aucun problème, il y en a pour toutes les directions.
Je n'ai pas souvenir d'avoir vu des directs Pattaya, mais beaucoup de bus vers Chonburi, une fois là-bas, tu n'es plus très loin.
Pour ma part, j'avais fait une halte à Trat (pas de bateau la nuit dans ce coin de Thailande), et puis c'est une ville que j'aime beaucoup, j'aime bien m'y arrêter à l'aller et au retour !
Pour le trajet Khorat/Chanthaburi, je confirme les durées données par crevette, nous n'avons en revanche pas eu les mêmes problèmes qu'elle, c'est-à dire d'une crevette serrée comme une sardine en boîte.
Nous avons fait étape à Chanthaburi qui est une ville assez sympa. Le marché aux pierres précieuses vaut le coup (d'oeil uniquement car il faut être un pro ou un amateur très averti pour acheter), attention c'est uniquement le matin.
Phimaï est une petite ville que nous avons bien appréciée. Nous sommes allés visiter le Phanom Rung et le Muang Tham (moins connu mais tout proche et très intéressant) dans la journée en voiture avec chauffeur et retour à Phimaï, bonne formule aussi.
D’après la carte pas très précise du LonelyPlanet (je ne dispose pas d’autre carte du coin pour l’instant) la distance entre Nang Rong et Phanom Rung semble être effectivement d’une vingtaine de kilomètres. Si la route est plate, en pas trop mauvais état et pas trop fréquentée cela me semble jouable d’y faire un aller-retour en vélo étant entendu que je compte bien finir le trajet en marchant (pour moi grimper au sommet du volcan fait partie de la découverte des lieux).🙂
J’avais lu pas mal d’éloges de Phanom Rung et envisageais de visiter Phimai en premier pour ne pas être déçu par ce dernier.😐
Quant à Phra Viharn n’y aurait-il pas de nouveau des tensions entre la Thaïlande et le Cambodge à son sujet ? Si c’est bien le cas je vais peut-être m’en passer…😕

Une halte à Chanthaburi n’est pas exclue et un court séjour à Phimai devient probable (surtout si j’exclu de mon circuit phra Viharn). 🙂
Oui je comptais bien rendre visite également au Muang Tham, par contre j’hésite à opter pour une voiture avec chauffeur car je suis du genre contemplatif (je risque de consacrer plus d’une journée pour les 2 sites) et étant seul je n’aurai peut-être pas le budget pour payer ce genre de prestation sur plusieurs jours. 🤪

Pour les deux autres temples, je te conseille effectivement si tu le peux de visiter Phimai puis Phanom Rung. (En vélo, ce garçon est dingue 😏😏)
En ce qui concerne l'huile jaune, ça fonctionne ! Ou alors c'est un excellent placebo 😉
J'avais testé il y a 2 ans et demi lors de mon premier passage, ça calme vraiment les démangeaisons (surement parce qu'il y a du camphre). Tu en trouves partout sur le marché de jour à Trat, à l'époque j'avais payé 40B la petite fiole avec l'applicateur (bille comme pour un déo) et il y a 15 jours quand j'y suis repassée, j'ai racheté des recharges (80B la recharge mais y'à de quoi faire).
C'est très bien aussi pour déboucher les narines, en inhalations...
Les pharmacies de Trat en vendent aussi, c'est connu, tu en trouveras vraiment sans problème !

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
The idea is to know what to expect so we can prepare as best as possible. Thanks for your replies! !
Autour de moi personne ne comprend ce qui m'arrive mais mon fou rire est contagieux, tout le monde se marre aussi ! Du coup, 2 petits jeunes prennent pitié de moi et me font une petite place à cote d'eux, je me glisse comme je peux.
