Nous partons avec nos 2 filles de 6 et 15 ans en Thaïlande/Malaisie pour la première fois au mois de janvier. Si j'ai à peu près une idée pour la première partie de notre itinéraire (Bangkok et environs puis Chiang Mai et alentours), j'ai un trou de notre retour à Bangkok le 11 janvier à notre départ pour Kuala le 18 janvier de Phuket. Reste donc la semaine du 11 au 18. Je ne tiens pas particulièrement à la passer entièrement à Phuket. Il faudra que nous y soyons cependant au plus tard le 18. Quelqu'un a t'il un itinéraire sympa à nous proposer pour cette semaine de descente vers le sud? Le guide du routard ne propose pas grand chose et je n'ai pas encore eu l'occasion de tester le Lonely Planet.

Si vous n'avez pas envie de descendre jusque Phuket, arrêté-vous à Hua Hin - petite cité balnéaire (ou le roi réside habituellement)
bellesp lages - nombreuses choses intéressantes à visiter dans le coin - payasage arrière pays superbe - un des plus grands parc nationaux aussi (Kaeng Krachan). Beaucoup de français y vont
Si c'est le calme que tu cherches il y a Chumphom qui est très bien aussi repos garantie et une très belle plage et possibilité d'aller à koh-Tao qui se trouve en face une bonne de bateau, voici comment aller là-bas avec les photos .
Voici des photos pour te donner une idée de cette plage qui se trouve à 12 Km environ du centre de Chumphom, c'est Chumphom beach pour y arriver c'est plus facile quand tu demandes la direction de Cabana Resort tout le monde connaît, sinon le nom de cette plage c'est Thung Wallaen beach, quand tu vas arriver au Cabana Resort c'est juste en bord de plage tu peux pas te tromper là tu tournes à gauche le long de la plage et un kilomètre après tu verras cet hôtel çi-dessous, adresse et nom hôtel c'est, CHUAN PHUAN 54/3 Moo 8, Tambon Saphli Aumphur Pathiv, Chumphon 86230 . Tel & Fax ( 077 ) 560230, 560120 plus loin plein de magnifique bungalows et il y a un français ( le seul d'ailleurs dans le coin ) très sympa il tient un cyber café sur la droite de la route en longeant la plage il est juste en bord de plage l'enseigne c'estNET ' TERRACE .
Le centre de Chumphom en ville vaut la peine d'être visiter très agréable et presque pas de touristes . Et pas loin de Chumphon beach une belle ballade à faire un petit village de pêcheur le bout du monde à moins de 5 Km en remontant vers le Nord, ça tu peux demander à Franck de NET ' TERRACE il te diras par ou aller pas compliqué . Et en plus saura mieux t'indiquer les curiosité à voir dans le coin il m'a bien conseiller . Bon trip tu vas te régaler c'est super par là car c'est pas touristique comme j'aime souvent de me ballader ., cet hôtel très bien situé juste en face de la plage le matin on peut voir le lever du soleil magnifique ( faut se lever à 5 heures 45 pour le voir 😉 ) , Une vue de la plage superbe et calme . , et des photos du coin dont deux d'un village de pêcheurs à 5 Km de là le bout du monde et très sympa . , , ,

Pour aller à Chumphon tu as deux solutions le train qui à mon avis et le mieux ou le bus, et pour rejoindre Phuket pour ton vol en direction de Kuala-Lumpur de Chumphon il y a des bus qui relie chumphon - Phuket .
Par tout dépend de l'heure que tu partiras de Phuket le 18 pour Kuala-Lumpur le mieux c'est de partir de Chumphon le 17. Ou prendre le train à Chumphon jusqu'à Surattani et de là prendre le bus pour Phuket .
De Bangkok à Chumphon 430 Km et pareil pour Chumphon à Phuket .

Moi, je te conseillerai soit Kho Phi Phi, pour la beauté du site, même si je pense que ça ne vaut pas le coup d'y rester une semaine, mais c'est extraordinairement beau! et à une heure de bateau de Phuket. Sinon, comme tu descends en Malaisie, il y a l'île de Kho Lipe, beaucoup plus sauvage que phuket et phi phi, tout proche de la frontière Malaisienne.😎

Bien sur tu as des taxis ( pas cher ) ou des tuk-tuk mais vaut mieux prendre le taxi, je crois même qu'il y a des navettes mini bus pas certain, comme je suis toujours en voiture .

Salut ! Sur cette plage, y a t'il des huttes de bamboo abordables (250, 300 bahts) et possibilités de restauration à prix modique ? Nous voulons y rester un mois et on n, a pas un gros budget...
OK barbot, mais je ne comprend pas tout. L'hotel en photo et les bungalows c'est la même maison? Car mois ce sont les bungalows qui m'intéressent mais ce que je comprend c'est qu'ils sont à cotés de l'hotel.
Je suis allée dans ce coin il y a environ 6 an et on été près de chumphon dans des bungalows en bois et chaume avec pas mal de touristes thai c'était aussi très simpat ca te dis rien?
Sinon vue que tu as l'air de bien aimer "l'autentique" j'hésite entre koh tao et phanghan, tu dis quoi toi? ou krabi mais ça fais plus loin!
Non les bungalows et l'hôtel n'est pas la même maison et les bungalows ne se trouvent pas juste à côté de l'hôtel mais plus loin sur la plage deThung Wallaen beach car cette plage est longue quand même, et tu as différent bungalows tout le long de cette longue plage comme par exemple sur ces deux photos ces bungalows juste en face de la mer et autre vue du coin, Ceux que tu parles c'est encore une autre plage un peu plus loin .
Koh-Tao et Koh-Phanga tout deux ont leur charme, mais Koh-Tao bien plus petit que Phanga, pas loin l'un de l'autre tu peux faire les deux si le temps te le permets .

J'ai enfin retrouver la carte de visite de ces bungalows, non c'est pas Cabana Resort mais View Seafood Resort tu verras adresse et N° de phone sur la carte, j'ai bien expliquer plus haut pour toi trouver cette plage lorsque tu arriveras à Chumphon ville tu demandes direction Cabana Resort tout les thais connaissent et tu arrives à Thung Wallaen beach et le View Seafood se trouve à 1 Km environ du Cabana juste en bord de plage pieds dans l'eau .
Et un peu plus loin tu as le Tawan Resort tout nouveau des bungalows super clean aussi et grand pour 800 baths par jour et à 100 mètres de la mer .
Mais ne te fais pas de soucis sur place tu auras le choix pas besoin de réserver . Et il y a un snack/bar cyber café tenu par un français le seul dans le coin d'ailleurs, le Net Terrace voir la photo . 😉

Super merci beaucoup, lequels de tous ces bungalows tu préfaire, , quel tu pense est le mieux adapté pour moi avec ma petite tribu. Il me faut des grand bungalows au niveau du sol car beaucoup on des balcon à plusieurs mètres du sol ce qui est trop dangereux.
Ceux là sont très bien, c'est au View Seafood Resort mais comme je te disais sur place tu auras l'embarras du choix et prendre ceux qui te convient le mieux ;

Perso quand j'y vais c'est toujours en novembre et je n'ai jamais eu du mauvais temps à part une averse de temps à autre mais rien de méchant, et la mer calme comme le montre cette photo à Thung Wallaen beach . 😉

Les tempètes qui sévissent sur samui à cette période n'arrivent donc pas jusqu'à là ? J'hésitais entre Krabi / Koh Lanta et cet endroit pour passer quelques jours avant de rejoindre Bkk.

Oui tu le trouveras très facilement car cette plage n'est pas très grande 1 km et demi de long pas plus et il est le seul français dans le coin .

le trajet en train de nuit Chumphon - NKK couchettes 2ièeme classe airco coûte 620 bath exactement...durée du trajet 9 heures environs mais attention reatrds fréquents....
je ne connais pas bien se site mais se que je lie et très intéressant une question mon ami et moi nous arrivons a Bangkok puisque l'avion et moins chére avec.etihad peu-t'on prendre les billets d'avion le même jour pour phuket ont nous voulons faire un séjour de 15 jours merci
Bien sur en arrivant à Bangkok après l"immigration tu vas au comptoir de Air Asia ou autres compagnies Thaï Airways, mais en haute saison ça risque d'être full pour le jour même ça dépend à quelle période tu y vas .

Pas de soucis à ces dates sur place tu auras des vols pour Phuket étant donner qu'il y a une vintaine de vols Bangkok Phuket par jour avec plusieurs compagnies .

Un autre chemin confortable et rapide est le bus Chumphon-> Ranong -> Phuket. La route Surat Thani-> Phuket est très mauvaise en ce moment. Certains endroits avant Khao Sok sont à la limite du praticable et dangereux voire scabreux!

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)

August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
