Coucou tout le monde, Je m'appelle sylvain et j'ai pour projet de faire le tour de la France à vélo cet été. Enfin un demi tour en réalité.
J'aime beaucoup l'aventure et je me suis longtemps posé la question de le faire ou non. Finalement à force de lire le récit des aventures de nombreux d'entre vous sur le site, ça m'a convaincu!!
Je partirai pour une période assez courte; fin juin (27-28) jusque mi août. Donc un mois et demi en tout de l'Aisne (St Quentin) jusque dans les Pyrénées (Perpignan) en passant côté atlantique notamment Rouen, Caen, St-Malo, Lorient, longer la côte jusque Royan et bifurquer vers périgueux, Agen, Auch et un bout de montagne avant d'arriver sur perpignan.
Le problème est que comme c'est la première fois que j'entreprends un voyage pareil et je ne mesure pas très bien le temps qu'il me faudra pour descendre sachant que j'aimerai quand même rester 2-3 jours à certains endroits pour profiter. En plus je n'ai toujours pas réalisé mon itinéraire, donc je ne sais pas exactement combien de distance j'ai à parcourir environ.
J'aurai voulu que vous me renseignez sur le matériel que je doit emporter (même si il doit y avoir la réponse dans 40 autres discussions) parce qu'en fait j'hésite encore entre deux solution et je voudrai que vous me donniez votre avis.
Voilà j'ai un vélo de course simple mais vraiment confortable et pas lourd et je comptait partir avec au départ mais manque de bol, je n'ai pas d'oeillets pour pouvoir fixer un porte bagage!! ce qui est embêtant pour ce genre de périple. j'ai été chez B'tw.. et j'ai vu qu'ils avaient de belles remorquettes adaptables de 50L environ. le problème c'est que tout mon équipement doit rentrer dedans obligatoirement.
J'ai également un VTT qui pèse une tonne sur lequel je peux fixer un porte bagage.
Donc quelle solution choisir? et si il y en a qui ont des remorques, Est ce encombrant? Lourd à tracter?
Bon, je vais continuer à visiter le site histoire de trouver des réponses déjà prééxistantes à toutes mes autres questions ^^.
Ah oui et je recherche éventuellement des personnes habitant sur mon chemin qui pourraient me prêter 4m² de pelouse afin de pouvoir y camper rien qu'une nuit^^.
La remorque D4 est une remorque pour enfants... enfin c'est la seule que j'ai trouvée sur leur site. A ce prix elle doit être méga lourde et avec un système de fixation peut-être pas très pratique. Autant prendre ton VTT et un PB : 1 PB fait 500 à 800g, 1 paire de sacoches entre 1,5 et 2 kg : donc tu as le choix entre VTT + 3 kg ou vélo route + 8 à 10 kg de remorque (2 roues en plus, pas top pour les chicanes sur les pistes cyclables).
Sinon, fonce, c'est super le voyage à vélo, mais comme tu n'es pas obligé de me croire, tu n'as plus qu'à essayer 😎
Nous avons réalisé ce tour de France avec mon épouse (140 ans à nous 2) en 4 périodes d'environ 2 semaines et sur 2 années (problème de disponibilités familiales). Tour bouclé en 5850 km et 50 étapes, suivant au plus près les limites de la France, sauf pour les régions montagneuses où il était exclu de s'embarquer sur les grands cols. Les hébergements se faisaient, en priorité chez des amis ou dans la famille puis, en chambres d'hôtes, gîtes d'étape, auberges de jeunesse ou petits hôtels. Expérience enrichissante et conviviale. Récit disponible sur internet, à la demande.
pour ce qui est des distances journaliere, personnellement je me fixe 70 km par jour pour fixer le nombres de jours de voyage.
je fais entre 70 et 110 km/jour suivant le denivellé.tu prend openrunner pour faire les etapes de ton itineraire et tu te rendra compte par toi meme de la distance que tu pourra faire pour ton voyage.
mon organisation c'est:
depart entre 7h et 8h jusqu'a 12/13h avec une petite pause café vers 10h et une sieste de 30 a 60 mn le midi (apres la sieste tu est en forme comme au matin), on redemarre vers 14h jusqu'a 18/19h avec une pause vers 16/17h le temps de trouver un endroit sympa pour le bivouac.
pour moi le depart c'est fin mai pour une boucle " st-raphael-->limoges-->bar-le-duc-->briançon-->st-raphael" prevu en en 5/6 semaines.
je prevois 34 etapes mais on ne sait jamais, ne pas oublier l'arnica en granules en prevention des tendinites.

Sans hésitation prend le vélo course.J'ai fait un tour de France ainsi .Le mien non plus n'avait rien pour mettre un porte bagages.J ai mis un porte bagages alu de 1kg qui se fixe avec des colliers sur la fourche du cadre.J'avais en tout 18kgs .Pour la France c'est largement suffisant ;on peut faire plus léger.Tu peux aussi avoir un minicoffre qui se fixe sur la tige de selle.Pour le temps celà parait largement faisable à raison de 100kms par jour.En une heure maxi tu auras fait ton kilométrage et ainsi tu auras aussi les étapes probables.Bon voyage.

Je pense qu'en fait il ne vaut mieux pas que je prenne de remorque, c'est vrai que c'est encombrant, etcomme dit pascal pour manoeuvrer c'est pas le top et en plus c'est cher à l'achat (140€ celle que j'ai vu en magasin ...autant racheter un vélo avec des oeillets à ces prix là, et pour les autres ce qu'il ont retiré dans le prix ils l'ont mis dans le poids!) Ou alors une remorque à une roue ça existe je crois non?
Sinon ça me paraît pas mal l'idée de fixer un porte bagage sur le vélo route mais ca a l'air un peu fragile non? je veux dire 18 kg, il faut que le vélo supporte! Et où trouve-t-on des pièces comme celle-ci? Vous auriez un bon site de pièces et accessoires (ou magasin) à me conseiller?

ah bon ? mon vélo fait 21 kg avant bagages, en voyage on est pas a 1kg, je prendrais le vtt en mettant des pneu + roulants, en plus si c'est un vtt non suspendu pas de souci de fixation de porte bagages que tu trouvera chez cyclo-randonnee pour pas cher.

a moins de faire regulierement du vélo, c'est plus un voyage c'est une cyclo-sportive.
ton periple fait +ou- 2000 km en longeant la cote, ce qui est tres raisonable en te basant sur mes conseils de 70 km/jour, tu n'est pas obligé de respecter ces 70km, mais c'est une base.
il m'arrive de faire 100 ou 110 km quand ca roule mais il se peut qu'en milieu tres valloné ou montagneux tu n'en fasse qu'une petite cinquantaine.
tente (t3 ultralight pour moi+bache sous la tente pour eviter de la trouer , duvet (sleep'in bed 5°), popotte, vetements, outillage, bouffe, cartes ou gps (on m'as offert un edge 705 et c'est le bonheur), appareil photo etc

bon j'ai toujours pas choisis de solution définitive bien que finalement le Vtt me semble la meilleure solution (et la plus pratique). Cependant j'ai vu une remorque qui a l'air pas mal mais sur le forum il y a un topic la concernant qui l'assassine en long en large et en travers. Et il y a ceux qui en sont satisfaits alors bonne ou mauvaise?
Sinon je pense que je vais suivre tes conseils olivier 70-80 Km par jour ça me paraît bien pour une première et j'ai surtout envie de profiter du reste de mon temps pour visiter les coins ou je m'arrèterai donc, au final si le vélo est lourd pas si grave!

concernant la remorque je ne pourrais trop te repondre, par contre une remorque qui est reputée tres bonne est la extrawheel.
il faut compter dans les 250€ avec les sacoches je pense.
pour le porte bagage avant tu dois pouvoir bricoler avec des collier de plomberie mais ca arrive quand meme a bouger et on est pas tout le temps tranquille.
j'avais mis un porte bagages avant sur mon triban trail 7 et je m'en suis sorti avec un peu de bricolage et ca a tenu.
pour les pneu plus lisse c'est plus roulant.
pour les sacoches je recommande les miennes MSX Mainstream chez cyclo-randonnée, moins cheres que ortlieb ou vaude, legerement plus lourde mais tout aussi resistante.
bsr il y a un gars sur ce forum 'je sais plus son nom) qui a fait la traversée des alpes de Geneve a nice en velo de course et remorque extraweels avec apprehension au départ et aucun soucis à l'arrivée...donc cogite l'extaweels t'auras plus de rangements et tu peux facilement utiliser ton vélo sans remorque quand tu veux visiter un coin sympa; bonne prépa et bonne route
Bonjour, je viens de lire que vous aviez un GPS Edge 705 dont vous êtes satisfait. Je voudrais savoir s'il connaît les pistes cyclables, voies vertes et véloroutes en France et même en Europe.
En effet, cet été j'ai l'intention d'aller au Danemark et de faire les routes nationales cyclables n° 3 et n° 1.
concernant tes vélos, c'est à la préférence de chacun entre remorque ou sacoches.
Ton VTT pèse combien ?
Ensuite simule le poids des deux solutions pour voir le poids total avec chaque vélo.
Tu ne peux pas emprunter tout ça pour tester ?
PS : Je pars faire le tour de France en juillet et Aout, et je pars de Saint quentin !

je pense qu'en prennant les cartes topo france, les voies cyclables doivent etre presentes mais je doute que mapsource calcule de lui meme le trajet uniquement par les voies cyclables, il va te faloir mettre des waypoint a chaque en droit ou tu veux imperativement passer et en plus les cartes topo coutent tres cher, que ce soit garmin ou autre.
je viens de regarder la topo danemark, elle est a 199 € 🏴☠️.
sur city navigator europe les pistes cyclables ne sont pas signalées, sur topo france garmin indique qu'elles le sont.

I’m planning a bikepacking trip in a few weeks along the Véloroute V81, also known as the Vélosud, from Biarritz to Le Barcarès.
Has anyone here already done this route? Any info is welcome, whether it’s about the route itself, gear, or accommodation. I’ll prioritize staying with locals as much as possible. On that note, I just signed up for the brand-new site *Guidon et Couette* ((www.guidon-et-couette.fr)), which offers free accommodation between cyclists across the country, but there’s almost no one listed along my route!

I'm developing a free and open-source web app for planning walking and cycling trips (and even car trips). You can create a route by clicking directly on the map to add waypoints, and it can consist of multiple stages. The app provides tools to edit the stages and the overall route, and to display useful information (distances, altitudes, and elevation changes). A relief profile can be shown as a graph for a specific stage or the entire route.
Once the route is ready, it can be exported as a GPX file, which can then be used with a GPS or a mobile navigation app.
The app is built in JavaScript and runs entirely in the web browser. It uses the Leaflet library and several OpenStreetMap-based services. Initially developed for my personal needs (I enjoy hiking and cycle touring), I’d be happy to share it with anyone who might find it useful. It’s free to use, doesn’t require an account, and the source code is available.
After testing it for three years across various modes of transport, I’m sharing this video of a bike packing case. It’s made from recycled cardboard and shrink-wrapped, with adjustable thickness and added bubble wrap depending on the level of protection you want.
Installing spacers at the fork and chainstays makes the packaging compact. With the fifteen-odd euros for shrink-wrapping at the airport, this case travels really well.

- Low bulk (1.10m x 0.70m x 0.25m for a large frame), it fits vertically in train luggage compartments and the total dimensions (x+y+z) don’t exceed 2.40m.
- Two carrying solutions for public transport and easy handling by airport staff (no more tears in the cardboard from openings).
- Discreet packaging when dealing with bus drivers and train conductors, as it looks like an ordinary parcel.
- No need to return to the starting point to retrieve the case from your outbound trip, which you’d otherwise have to store somewhere, or deal with a bulky cover to pack in your panniers.
- You can still check tire pressure through the plastic film without damaging the packaging too much.
Drawbacks: Around 3 hours for this lengthy and meticulous process—removing the wheels, pedals, handlebars, and derailleur without misaligning them, then securing all components to the frame.

I’ve got my flight ticket sorted—departing in mid-November and returning in mid-March. I’ll arrive in Santiago and leave from Buenos Aires.
I’ve already been to southern Argentina, specifically Torres del Paine National Park, and I’d love to go back to do the full W trek (I only did the shorter version last time).
I also want to do some hiking and maybe even tackle a summit. I climb and occasionally do some mountaineering, so I’ll definitely be going with a guide.
I plan to start around Temuco in Chile, with the idea of heading toward the lakes, then taking the Carretera Austral.
I’m not sure if I’ll go all the way to Ushuaia—it’s supposed to not be *that* worth it, except for the bragging rights of saying you’ve been to the end of the world.
I saw there are lakes in Argentina too.
I don’t have a precise itinerary, but what I’d love is, once I reach the southernmost point of my trip, to take a mini-cruise to see some wildlife. Any tips for that?

I’m planning to cycle from Morlaix to Brest (via Roscoff and the V45 coastal route). We’ll start riding on August 16th for 13 days (with stops for island visits, surfing, etc.). Is there a lot of traffic at this time of year? I’ve got two kids, 11 and 13, and we don’t like riding in the middle of cars (we’ve already done the Vélomaritime—Caen to Cherbourg—the Loire route from Orléans to Saumur, the Vélodyssée from Nantes to Royans, and the canals like the Nivernais and Bourgogne, where there were plenty of bike-only lanes, which isn’t the case on this route).

That said, I’m tempted by a suspension fork that could offer some comfort on rougher roads.
The recent appearance of gravel suspension forks on the market might meet my needs—at least on paper.
I’m particularly considering the RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork.
Unlike MTB forks, its travel is short: either 30 mm or 40 mm.
It weighs 1400 g, which is 400/500 g more than a steel fork.
Any thoughts or real-world feedback on this?
I’m also wondering about the durability of magnesium (lower leg) for long-distance bike touring.
And what’s the impact of skipping the manufacturer-recommended maintenance every 50 and 200 hours? That’s bound to happen on a long trip unless you carry extra gear.
More generally, how reliable are these kinds of forks?

I’m making an exception and creating a separate post this time, since it’s all about France. In May, we spent a week in Provence, specifically in the Luberon, exploring the cycling routes *Autour du Luberon à Vélo*, the *Véloroute du Calavon* (part of EuroVelo 8), and the shorter *Les Ocres à Vélo* route. Together, they gave us an amazing journey through rolling hills, vineyards, lavender fields still green in spring, and some of the most stunning landscapes in southern France.
It was, of course, the perched villages that impressed us the most. We visited Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Lourmarin, Ménerbes, Oppède-le-Vieux, Cucuron, and Lauris. Many of them are among the most beautiful villages in Provence, and it’s hard not to agree with that reputation.
One interesting point is the route of EuroVelo 8 in this part of the region. The official path mainly follows the old railway line of the *Véloroute du Calavon*, which is very comfortable and safe. But in our opinion, cyclists traveling EuroVelo 8 around the Mediterranean would discover even more treasures if the route passed through villages like Bonnieux, Lacoste, or Oppède-le-Vieux.
We were also pleasantly surprised by how safe cycling felt. Most of the route takes small local roads, but traffic is light, drivers are respectful, and road design really takes cyclists into account. It’s one of those places where you can ride peacefully even without separated bike lanes.

Happy owner of a Pegasus Estremo bike with a Rohloff hub, which is giving me trouble with the SF11-NCX-FT-E-LITE 700C TS 300/0 fork (serial number TD01329060). It’s starting to show its age, and I’d like to repair it to extend the life of my beloved bike.
The suspension is gone, and there’s an oil leak from the seals.
Does anyone know how to repair it? Where can I find parts that are about fifteen years old? Or where to find an identical replacement fork? Just to clarify, the Magura HS11 brakes are mounted using Firm Tech, meaning they’re on pivots behind the fork, facing the frame.

I’m landing in Madagascar with a buddy before the end of April 2026. We’re planning to bike around for about twenty days or so. We don’t have a specific goal other than exploring the country and meeting the locals.

Last year, my wife and I explored the High Atlas by tandem. Completely smitten, we're heading back in April (Anti Atlas) and May (High and Middle Atlas), still on our tandem.
Do you have any info on the track between Amezri and Ali Ait Nito? Are the river crossings in the Tessaout still there? It's not easy to navigate with a loaded tandem... especially if the river level is high due to this year's heavy snowmelt!

I’ve been traveling for a few years now with a high-quality mountain bike, but it’s equipped with hydraulic disc brakes. I live (pedal) with the constant worry of a breakdown (leak, air bubble, heat causing the fluid to...). My bike mechanic tells me it’s impossible to switch them out for V-brakes.
What do you all think? Am I taking a big risk continuing (alone) with these brakes? Thanks in advance for your great tips!
First post here to share a quick recap of our west-to-east bike trip along Algeria’s coast in January 2025.
It was just the two of us—my partner and I—with French passports and not a word of Arabic. No friends or welcoming hosts in the country.
Under those conditions, we’d strongly advise against going.
Our original plan was to follow the coast from Algiers to Tunis. We ended up cycling from Algiers to Béjaia, then took the train from Béjaia to Annaba (with a stop in Constantine), and finally biked to the border.
We were tailed by police the whole way—whether on our bikes, on the train, or even on foot while exploring towns. On top of that, we couldn’t wild camp and were limited to the few state-approved hotels that accept foreigners. Under those circumstances, connecting with locals was especially tough.
With such an omnipresent and intrusive police presence, we’d definitely recommend against this destination for bike touring. A really sad situation that completely cuts you off from the local population...
We’d been warned, we went to check it out, and we weren’t disappointed!
