On se marche dessus à Venise , on fait la queue pour se faire photographier sous le balcon de Juliette à Vérone . Quelques pélerins et amateurs de vieilles pierres visitent Padoue mais dans les villas Palladiennes , on est tout seul , absolument tout seul et elles sont pourtant superbes .Je vais donc leur faire un peu de publicité photographique .
Mille excuses si une de ces villas n'est pas vraiment une villa Palladienne , elle est superbe quand même.
Dans l'ordre villa Rotonda , villa Pisani , villa Duodo et villa Contarini .

Je viens de passer 15 jours en Italie du nord ( le compte rendu viendra plus tard ) et je peux faire des tas de constatations du même genre
- on se marche dessus sur le forum romain pour voir des ruines qui vous arrivent à hauteur des genoux et personne à ravenne pour des monuments presque aussi anciens ( Ve-VIe siècle ) qui eux sont en parfait état de marche
-on se marche dessus dans le centre historique de Lucques que je n'hésiterais pas à qualifier de nul par rapport à celui de Modene complètement ignoré des touristes
-on se marche dessus sur le campo dei fiori ou la piazza di spagna qui sont bien loin de valoir les places castello , san carlo et vittorioveneto à turin , où les touristes étrangers sont rares
Venise, il suffit de faire 100 mètres et s'éloigner de la place st-marc ou du Rialto et là c'est la paix. Et c'est de toute beauté.
Je suis allé 2x à Venise et c'est le même effet à chaque fois. Je déteste la Place st-Marc entre 10am et 17 heures. Même chose pour le Rialto. Après ou avant, c'est mieux, mais je préfère le reste de Venise
Le reste de Vérone est très bien, moi un joli balcon d'une légende urbaine, peu pour moi.

Pourquoi triste? 😉 L'Italie est si riche en découvertes qu'on peut visiter les villas palladiennes désertes ou presque en plein mois d'août, tant mieux pour moi! 🙂 Mais j'ai l'envie, le temps, et le budget qui me permettent ce genre de détours... et j'en suis à mon .....ième voyage en Italie. Quand certains n'iront qu'une fois dans leur vie.
Ce que je trouve positif dans ton message, c'est qu'il peut éveiller la curiosité de certains et leur donner cette envie de chercher, d'aller ouvrir un guide de voyage et enrichir leur prochain itinéraire d'une étape inédite. C'est pour moi le sens de ce forum - plus que de répondre à des questions sur comment voir "toute l'Italie" en deux semaines 😛 !
on arrivera peut-être ainsi à lancer de nouvelles modes , comme ont-été lancés recemment par exemple la mode des 5 terre ( pour les français qui ont les calanques , bof....) ou Lucques ( les Lucchesi n'ont eux-même toujours pas compris )
les scandaleusement ignorés , ce n'est pas qu'en Italie ; combien de français vont voir la place ducale à Charleville ? ça aussi , c'est autre chose que le campo dei fiori ; et ne parlons pas de ceux qui vont faire toutes les ruines de sicile et n'ont jamais visité la provence romaine qui est quand même autre chose que la sicile grecque
J'avais pris la précaution de mettre "triste" entre parenthèses car bien sur , ce n'est pas si triste que ça pour ma modeste personne et mais c'est quand même "triste" et inquiétant pour le site de Venise et je pense aux particuliers aux ENORMES bateaux de croisière .Là si je mets une photo , ce n'est pas pour leur faire de la publicité .
Et bien sur , je suis sortie de la place Saint Marc et du Rialto , là où on ne se fait pas marcher du tout sur les pieds et je suis allée à Venise à 7 h du matin et à 7 h du soir .C'était plutôt une remarque d'ordre général que des conseils pour un voyage à Venise qui pour moi est déjà du passé (les vacances sont finies et ça c'est vraiment "triste")....
Je vis moi même dans une ville (Dinan) où on se marche sur les pieds l'été . Des touristes de toutes nationalités s'y pressent et n'y font qu'un passage éclair entre Saint-Malo et le Mont-Saint-Michel qui sont les incontournables de la région .Il va falloir que quelqu'un lance une vaste enquête à ce sujet sur le forum.
C'est vrai qu'une charge touristique mieux répartie ferait moins souffrir ces endroits surexploités, et mieux vivre des endroits sous-exploités... On peut rêver. Mais bon, moi aussi je participe chaque année à la surexploitation touristique, exemple je suis moi aussi allée sous le faux balcon de Juliette, par curiosité, et j'ai trouvé ça franchement nul, tu as bien raison! (après coup, où est le plaisir de se serrer comme des sardines pour voir ça? 🤪)
Le forum contribue à ces phénomènes de mode. Beaucoup se servent du forum pour établir leur itinéraire en repérant les "incontournables", c'est à dire pour eux les endroits qui sont cités le plus souvent. S'ils ne poussent pas plus loin leurs recherches ou qu'ils n'ouvrent pas un guide de voyage en complément de cette première approche, ils retombent toujours sur les mêmes endroits "best-seller" et ils s'en contentent. Et ça fait boule de neige avec les suivants.
Alors je continue ma campagne de publicité pour des lieux peu fréquentés et qui méritent un détour dans la région. Voici donc ma galerie photos des sites à découvrir après ou avant de se faire marcher sur les pieds à Venise .....

Avez vous fait , aussi , la petite croisière sur la Rivera de Brenta ? Ou bien est-ce TRES touristique et sans intérêt ?
Nous pensions : 1 j Padoue ( Capella ... ), 1 journée Vicenze, 1 j Trévise et la route vers Bassano et 1 jour ( ou 1/2 j ) pour cette croisière .
Ensuite, nous partons pour l'Emilie Romagne ( Ravenne , Ferrara ) , ... mais nous connaissons déjà assez bien .

Bonjour Brigitte, je me permet d'ajouter mon petit grain de sel.
On arrive tout juste de quelques uns de ces endroits.
Padoue, la chapelle des Scrovegni est un must bien sûr et assurez-vous de réserver d'avance.
Mais le reste de la ville nous a agréablement surpris. le centre a 2-3 très belles piazza avec des très beaux édifices. La ville est vivante et agréable. Il faut aussi visiter la basilique de st-antoine, et bien que je ne l'ai pas fait, il semble que le jardin botanique est un must.
Ravenne, les mosaïques sont extraordinaires. Vous pourrez faire le tout en une demi journée.
Après Ravenne nous avons bifurqué vers San Marino. Très spectaculaire comme emplacement sur un pic rocheux. On a beaucoup aimé.
Mantoue, si vous aimez Andrea Mantegna, il faut voir le palazzo Ducale et l'oculus qu'il a peint.
Ce peintre étant en avant de son temps et faut voir cette magnifique chambre

Par contre, si vous revenez un jour ou plus par là , allez à Ferrare et, en passant, voyez l'abbaye de Pomposa , pas loin de la mer .

Des trois villes que vous citez , j'ai préféré Padoue, nettement. Le centre ancien est grand et très animé .
Pour la croisière sur la Brenta, le jeune homme de l'office de tourisme me l'avait carrément déconseillé : cher, visite en troupeau, restaurant imposé .Nous avons donc fait la croisière par la route .
J'en profite pour citer mon logement dans la région , dans un château même si ce n'est pas une villa palladienne , la villa Selvatico (photo jointe).

Dommage pour la villa où vous avez logé : j'ai reservé ( avion + hôtels ) , voici déjà 2 mois car je préparais en même temps plusieurs voyages .
Note hôtel n'est pas mal situé mais a beaucoup moins de charme que vote villa !
Sur le parcours du bateau , j'ai visité la villa Pisani que je recommande , et j'ai trouvé porte close à la Malcontenta (comme vous dites , étudiez bien les horaires) mais ma préférée c'est la villa Contarini et elle n'est pas sur le circuit .Elle est non seulement superbe, mais immense et on visite une grande partie de l'intérieur alors que pour certaines villas , on doit se contenter des jardins. Sur le circuit routier de la Brenta, on peut voir beaucoup de villas qui ne se visitent pas mais se laissent admirer à travers leurs grilles.
Quant à la croisière, j'ai bien l'impression que les villas sont toutes ou presque au bord de la route et pas au bord de la Brenta , ce qui fait qu'on les voit aussi bien de la route ....
En tout cas, si certaines photos laissent croire que la villa Pisani donne directement sur la Brenta , c'est faux , la route est entre les deux.

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.
I’m also guessing that paying to access Wengen or Mürren only makes sense if we’re staying there for a few days, right?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.
We should’ve added a stop between Salzburg and Garmisch, but the hotels are already booked.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.

There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.
Questions:
Since the Alhambra visit is only at 5 PM, and we’d already have the day to explore Granada, would arriving the day before be a mistake? Or should we skip this day and dedicate it elsewhere (Costa del Sol? Head toward Tabernas?)? The old town appeals to me, but maybe the Sacromonte neighborhood isn’t essential...
Same question for Ronda: should we dedicate a full day to it, or combine Ronda and the White Villages in one day?
Note that we love wandering around villages outside, so that might answer my question! :)
Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...

My husband and I are planning a trip to Ireland in September 2026.
We’ll be flying from Montreal to London, where we’ll spend three nights.
After that, we’ll head to Dublin for a few days and take trains to visit the main attractions.
Our ideal plan would be to choose hotels near train stations and take tours to the interesting spots.
Would 8 days in Ireland be enough for this kind of trip?
We’re a group of 4 heading out at the end of June for 11 days.
I’m just starting my research.
We’ll be renting a regular car, not a 4x4.
I’m not finding a ton of info on the North.
Would love your take on all those kilometers—is there a route that lets us cut out a section?

Can you share your experiences about Bilbao with us? We're planning to go during the last week of April, with our main goal being to visit the Guggenheim Museum. Despite our research, we're not sure if a week is too long or what there really is to see and do in Bilbao. Should we rent a car to explore the surrounding areas? For San Sebastián, it seems there are pretty convenient buses. Would a day trip there and back be doable?
Any advice would be welcome regarding the itinerary, local transportation, hotels, and how long to stay.
