j'ouvre une discussion dans le but de trouver quelques réponses à mes questions. Ma copine et moi avons comme projet de partir en 2014(?) pour environ 3mois en Asie du Sud Est. Nous souhaiterions changer de pays toutes les deux semaines et visiter des pays tels que l'Indonésie, le Cambodge, la Thailande, le Vietnam et pourquoi pas faire un détour en Inde si possible.
Mes questions sont les suivantes: Un tel itinéraire (Il peut bien entendu changer) est il possible en 3 mois?
Quel budget faut il prévoir environ par personne?
Est il possible de ne prendre qu'un billet d'avion aller pour ne pas se donner de date précise de retour?
J'ai un niveau d'anglais correct sans plus. Serai-je compris? Quel moyen pour travailler la langue efficacement sans voyager?
Ce n'est pour le moment qu'un projet qui n'a en aucun cas été travaillé.

Bonjour à vous, je pars dans 2 mois pour 5 mois en Asie après près de 2 ans de préparation. J'avais aussi des idées de grandeur au début de mon projet, mais j'ai décidé de me calmer un peu. Je voulais visiter le plus de pays possible en peu de temps. J'ai complètement changé d'idée en consultant de nombreux blogs de voyageurs. Je vais plutôt passé 1 mois ou plus par pays (Bali-Lombok 1mois, Thailande 2 mois, Laos 1 mois, Cambodge 1 mois). C'est mon humble avis, mais je crois que pour profiter au de chaque destination, il faut prendre le temps. Seulement 2 semaines par pays c'est court.
De mon côté, j'ai 35$ par jour comme budget (25 euro). J'espère que c'est assez. Je vais le voir une fois rendu là-bas.
J'ai pris un billet d'avion à date de retour flexible. Ça veut dire que je pars le 23 oct, le retour le 28 mars, mais pour 50$ je peux changer la date de retour avec Air-Canada. Un agent de voyage peut t'informer là-dessus.
Je vous conseille grandement de lire les récits de voyages/blog, on apprend beaucoup comme ça.

D'ici 2014 il y aura avec le crack boursier une telle crise économique que toute projection et simulation sera très certainement faussées. Upgrade nécessaire...
Je comprend pas bien le truc de prendre de longue vacance et de vouloir être speedé tout le temps. 5 pays c'est bien sûr réalisable en 3 mois, le Paris Dakar ils en font plus en 3 semaines.
Moi trois mois je conseillerai plutôt 1 ou 2 pays en prenant le temps de s'arrêter quitte à s'emmerder parfois. On a une autre approche des gens quand on les voit plusieurs fois et qu'on est pas simplement un courant d'air.
1. En 2014 je rentrerais probablement dans la vie active et il sera alors très compliqué d'organiser des voyages aussi long. Et je rêve de faire un voyage tel que celui là. Partir longtemps et non plus de partir un week end ou 10jours maximum.
2. Pour des questions d'argent (Je peux pas me payer 10 billets pour aller si loin). Je dois déjà payer mes études et je payerai(s?) ce voyage qu'avec l'argent que j'aurais réussi à mettre de côté.
3. D'ici quelques années j'aurais peut être commencé une vie de famille.
Et je ne veux pas forcement faire les 5 pays cités. J'aimerais mais on a encore rien défini bien entendu. L'Inde étant le rêve de ma copine on ne passera pas à côté, pour les autres rien n'est figé. Que conseillez-vous? J'imagine bien un France-Indonésie-Cambodge-Thailande-Inde. 3 semaines dans chacun... Non je sais pas !
L'Inde est immense. Il faut bien cibler les endroits où l'on veut aller pour ne pas passer sa vie dans les trains (de Bombay à Chennai par exemple il y a 36 heures de voyage!!!)
Il faut limiter le nombre d'étapes, ça permet d'économiser sur le budget et sur la fatigue physique.
L'Inde est un endroit magnifique mais pas de tout repos et certains voyageurs peuvent ressentir un stress en arrivant dans ce pays. Passer un mois là-bas peut paraître très court ou très long. Je vous conseillerai donc de commencer par ce pays et en fonction de votre ressenti sur place de déterminer le temps de votre passage. Les formalités de visa pour les autres pays pouvant se faire facilement sur place ne planifiez pas votre voyage au jour le jour.
Si vous ne restez pas plus d'un mois en Inde, direction la Thaïlande (avion oblige). Le circuit vers le nord (Ayutaya, Sukothai, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai...) me semble incontournable. Eviter le sud aux belles plages mais pas vraiment dans votre secteur géographique pour leur préférer les plages de l'est. De là vous pouvez passer au Cambodge pour voir Angkor (étape obligé).
A rajouter un pays de plus j'irai plutôt vers le Vietnam (proximité géographique).
Onirydine:J'aime bien comme itinéraire. Et j'ai entendu parlé de ce syndrome de l'Inde chez certains touristes! C'est vrai que c'est un bon plan. Si ça se passe pas très bien on peut quitter le pays et se retourner vers l'Asie de l'est alors que dans l'itinéraire initial avec l'Inde en dernier n'est pas très astucieux (Ne pas aimer l'Inde alors qu'il reste 3 semaines de voyage)!
Comment se déplace les touristes en général dans ces pays? Ils louent une voiture? De nombreux bus sont à disposition? Je me doute bien qu'un tel voyage sur un tel continent demande une organisation béton pour ne pas perdre trop de temps dans les déplacements.
J'ai le même projet pour mars/avril/mai 2014, mais avec Birmanie/Myanmar, Tibet, Cambodge et Vietnam.
Des heures et des heures de lectures, de recherches pour la préparation naturellement. Ce qui revient comme commentaires est le trop grand nombre de pays visités en "si peu de temps".
Pour ma part, j'entrevois ceci : 3 sem Birmanie, 2 sem Tibet, 4 sem Vietnam, 3 sem Cambodge.
Ayant fait quelques pays d'Amérique centrale en 2 semaines pour chacun, je me dis que cela est possible. Il est vrai, par contre, qu'on ne peut pas tout voir et, qu'en deux semaines, c'est souvent intense. Il est aussi évident qu'on ne peut pas garder un rythme d'enfer pendant 3 mois.
Finalement, dans les prémisses, tout n'est que questionnement.
Alors, je suivrai religieusement cette discussion pour les conseils.
De toute façon je m'en fiche de TOUT voir. Je connais des gens qui vont automatiquement visiter des monuments, des musées ou des villes dont ils s'en fichent tout simplement pour pouvoir dire: Je l'ai fait!
Je ne veux pas me presser dans le but d'en voir un maximum. En fonction du temps dont je disposerai je, ou plutôt nous, ferons une sélection de ce que nous souhaitons voir et visiter en priorité. C'est à chacun de définir ses envies. Et il n'existe pas qu'une seule façon de voyager. Quel fut mon plaisir à New York d'emprunter quelques sentiers (oui je sais c'est ridicule) touristiques mais également de me balader hors Manhattan, de vivre avec la communauté noire l'une des nombreuses messes, et de me payer deux matches de Baseball tout simplement parce que j'en avais envie ! Et tant pis pour certains musées et tant pis pour certains quartiers !
Il est vrai qu'après réflexion je risque d'écourter mon séjour de 2-3 semaines et le nombre de pays à 2 ou 3. Sachant que la priorité de ma copine c'est l'Inde, et moi le Cambodge. On aimerait également le Tibet, comme vous Iris123, mais cette région me semble difficile à visiter. Ne me demandez pas pourquoi j'en ai aucune idée.
En effet, il est tout simplement impossible de TOUT voir et il faut choisir. Cela me rappelle un commentaire lu hier : j'en verrai plus que le couch potato. Et je reviens toujours la tête pleine d'agréables souvenirs et aucun regret. Y'a tellement à voir. Je me dis que si le temps et la santé le permettent, je retournerai tout simplement dans l'un des pays visités que j'ai particulièrement aimé afin de compléter ce que j'ai manqué sinon tant pis.
Le Tibet, c'est compliqué selon le peu de lectures entreprises. Pour l'instant, j'ai effectué des recherches pour le Myanmar, un peu compliqué, mais moins que le Tibet. Les fichiers sont complétés pour la Birmanie. Je passe ensuite au dossier Tibet. Je me rends compte tout au long de mes recherches que le transfert d'un pays à l'autre peut amener d'autres questionnements. Une fois toutes les recherches effectuées, je passerai à l'itinéraire. Pour terminer avec la flopée de questions qui s'ensuivront pour VF.
Mettons que c'est pas mal plus compliqué qu'un deux semaines, alors faut se prendre tôt. Incroyable le nombre d'heures passées devant l'écran! Mais quelle mine d'infos le Web! On sait quand on commence, les heures passent, on tombe sur d'autres liens intéressants, d'autres questionnements et on en perd le sommeil.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
