Je suis en train d'organiser notre voyage de noces en Thaïlande entre le 2 et le 28 décembre prochain.
Nous arriverons le 2 décembre sur PHUKET (je sais il vaut mieux arriver sur Bangkok, mais au vu du prix de nos billets nous arriverons sur Phuket).
Nous aimerions faire :
- la partie Nord de la Thaïlande (les environs de Chiang Maï)
- la partie un peu plus au Sud pour farniente et plongée (Koh Lanta ou Koh Phi phi ou autre si bon plan)
- Puis quelques jours sur Phuket avant de repartir !
Nous avons un total de 4000 € pour ces 3 semaines.
Que me conseillez-vous ? Pensez-vous que ça vaut la peine de faire une halte sur Bangkok ?? Si vous devriez conseiller une personne de votre famille que lui conseilleriez vous ?

Bonjour, tout juste rentré de Thaïlande je te fais part de notre expérience. 19 jours sur place dont 2 nuits à Bangkok et le reste partagé entre le Nord et les îles du Sud.
Les aéroports de Chiang Mai et Phuket sont tout petits, pas de risque de perdre du temps à faire la queue ou à récupérer les bagages. Celui de Chiang Mai est à 10 minutes du centre en Taxi. Quand à Bangkok, pour les vols internes c'est rapide aussi. Par contre le trajet en taxi prend 30 minutes sans bouchon et via l'autoroute à 1h avec bouchon et sans prendre l'autoroute.
En tout cas l'avion est bien plus reposant que le train de nuit (on a testé aussi sur un trajet).
Bangkok reste pour nous une expérience inoubliable et totalement différente du sud et du nord, 2 jours suffisent pour faire les plus grand trucs : temple Wat Phra Kaeo, ballade en bateau à longue queue sur les Khlong, Chinatown et prévoir ne serait-ce qu'un trajet en Tuk-tuk!

Vous allez passer du temps dans les inter-liaisons en taxis ou autres, ça oui, mais je pense que ça vaut le coup par rapport à votre projet.
Ca se tient, me semble-t-il, surtout avec ce budget, vous ne manquerez de rien !! 😉
Quant à Bangkok, je suis de l'avis de Thuan : réservez-vous un petit temps sur place.
A moins que vous ne décidiez de retourner en Thaïlande plus tard, ce qui sera sans doute le cas... Le virus s'attrape si facilement, et y a pas de vaccin. 😄

Concernant l'argent, que nous conseillez vous ? de tout prendre en liquide avant de partir ??
- Je ne connais ni votre train de vie habituel ni vos envies, mais personnellement, je crois que je n'arriverais pas à dépenser 4000 euros en si peu de temps. A moins que vous vous contentiez de shopping dans les bijouteries ! 😉
- 2 jours et une nuit, sans encore y avoir été, j'imagine que c'est un peu court. Mais là aussi, tout dépend de vos goûts : temples ? marchés ? grands magasins modernes ? farniente en hôtel avec piscine ? balades à pied au gré du hasard ?
- la nourriture par jour, pareil : vous aimez les gargottes sur le trottoir ou les "vrais" restaus ? Ca peut donc varier de 200 bahts par personne (5 euros) et par jour dans le premier cas jusqu'à n fois plus dans l'autre cas !
- hôtels : personnellement je ne réserverais par le net que la 1ère nuit, quitte à voir sur place ensuite, car il semble qu'il y ait un choix assez énorme.
- argent : ne prenez pas tout en liquide, prévoyez une part en travellers, au cas où ! Ce sera plus sûr.

Alors notre train de vie, nous sommes un couple la trentaine récemment marié. Nous vivons "classiquement" dans la moyenne de la population 😉
Nous avons eu dans notre petite urne -> 4 000 €, c pour ça qu'on a ce budget, si on peut en garder c'est encore mieux !
Maintenant on souhaite faire un joli voyage de découvertes sans forcement claquer à tout va. Le but est de se faire un beau voyage, faire de belles rencontres, pouvoir se reposer et ne pas passer notre temps à courrir... On habite dans le centre ville de Lyon, alors on recherche plus la tranquillité d'une campagne, que la pollution et le bruit d'une mégalopole !
Il est vrai qu'on adore la mer également, faire de la plongée, se prélasser sur le sable fin... enfin un petit voyage de noces tranquillouxxx !

Dans le nord, tout ou à peu près, est moins cher qu'à Bangkok ou dans le sud, mais à Phuket ou dans la région, vous aurez davantage d'occasions de dépenser, c'est certain.
Bon, prenons un exemple.
Si vous choisissez des hébergements confortables, voire très confortables, dans une moyenne de 2000 bahts la nuit, si vous mangez chacun pour 500 bahts par jour, donc en vous faisant très très plaisir, vous serez arrivés difficilement à même pas la moitié de votre cagnotte.

Nous devions rester à THATON 4 jours et finalement nous sommes restés 6 jours et obligés de partir car plus de disponibilité.
Surtout ne pas rater une journée avec le guide RENATO, personnage passionnant qui vous organise une ballade inédite au milieu des rizieres et vous emmene dans des villages où il connaît plein de mondes. Il organise un pique nique au milieu de la jungle absolument inoubliable mais je vous laisse la surprise...
Sinon, nous avons été à Phrae (grosse erreur car il n'y a rien à y faire), et nous avons été à Chang RAI : j'ai bien aimé le marché de nuit (night bazar) et nous avons fait quelques ballades interessantes à partir de Chang rai (au night bazar, aller à l'agence VIP SERVICE où ils sont super sympas)
Nous avons été ensuite sur l'île KO PHANGHAN mais aprés cet excellent séjour dans le nord, l'île a été un peu décevante. Les seules plages où on peut se baigner sont peuplées de touristes à la recherche de filles et de soirées alcolos et du coup, les Thaï semblent moins accueillants.
Nous avons fini notre séjour par 4 jours à Bangkok dans un hotel que je recommande vivement SOMERSET HOTEL sur Sukhumvit. Ils font des promos intéressantes, ont un service gratuit de tuk tuk jusqu'aux stations de métro, les chambres sont super confortables (nous étions 4 dans un petit appartement avec cuisine, lave linge, 2 chambres, salon). Je pense que pour finir un séjour en Asie, il est pratique de rester dans un hôtel avec un peu plus de confort et de service.
Si c'est votre voyage de noce, profitez en donc pour en faire un voyage exceptionnel!
Et notament sur l'hebergement, vous pouvez vraiment vous faire des plaisirs sans pour autant reussir a tout depenser! Ça ne veut pas dire de gros hôtels de luxes asseptises, la Thailande sais faire bien mieux que ca...
Par exemple sur les iles aux alentour de Phuket, il y a au moins 2 hôtels de charme si ce n'est de luxe sur des iles plutôt sauvages...
Et ca ne vous empêche pas de passer aussi des nuits dans des endroits plus rustiques mais atypiques. Les possibilités ne manquent pas, dans le nord comme dans le sud.
En fait, dans votre cas, pourquoi ne pas faire appel a une agence de voyage sur mesure comme Thaïlande Autrement ou Andaman Discovery, par exemple?

L'intérêt, c'est aussi que ce type d'agence te permettent probablement de mieux rencontrer la population locale et rurale que ce que tu ne le ferais seule. TA te permet une grande souplesse: si t'as repéré un truc en particulier ou tu veux aller (comme par exemple un hôtel de charme sur une ile a moitie sauvage 😉), pas de probleme, ils t'arangent ca et si tu veux aussi aller dormir dans un village des montagne du nord, ils ont des maisons d'hôtes partenaires etc...
Tu peux jeter un coup d'œil sur celui-ci, par exemple, d'hôtel de charme... GBBR, le site est pourri mais la plage et les bungalows... Un ensemble détonant!
Après un mois d'absence et de recherche, nous voilà un peu plus avancé sur notre périple.
Point négatif : nous n'avons finalement pas les billets tant espérés par XL, nous devons donc achetés des billets par une autre compagnie pfffffffffffff = trou dans notre budget !!!
Nos dates ont été modifiées du coup, nous partirions début janvier (6/01 au 25/01 à priori !)
Bref pour les billets, j'ai cherché et j'ai trouvé quelques tarifs comparables sur plusieurs compagnies. Je ne sais pas laquelle choisir, ne connaissant pas les différences de prestation entre les unes et les autres. I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before.
