Bon je me lance car c'est la 1 ère fois que je m'inscris sur un forum et de plus mon ami et moi partons 15 jours en Thailande en Mars pour la 1ère fois et surtout sans tour opérateur, véritable exploit !!!
Auriez vous la gentillesse de jeter un coup d'oeil à mon 1er jet de programme et me dire ce que vous en pensez :
Arrivée à Bangkok le 7/03 matin
1 er jour et 1ère nuit sur bangkok afin de récupérer
2 ème jour départ en train pour Ayathaya avec nuit sur place
3 ème jour départ en train pour Phitsanulok puis bus vers Sukhothai - prévu 2 nuits à Sukhothai
5 ème jour départ en bus vers Phitsanulok puis en train couchette pour Chiang Mai où nous passerons 3 nuits
8 ème jour départ de Chiang Mai vers Bangkok par avion puis train couchette de BKK vers Chumpong puis speed boat vers Koh Tao où nous resterons 4 nuits
Retour vers BKK ou nous resterons 1 nuit avant de revenir en France, snif snif snif....
En dehors du programme en lui même, je me pose plusieurs questions :
1/ Serait il véritablement dommage de rater la visite d'Ayuthaya au profit d'une journée en plus sous les palmiers ?
2/ Existe t'il une liaison en bus gouvernementaux VIP de nuit pour aller directement de Sukhothai vers Chiang Mai, si oui où puis je trouver les horaires et les prix ?
3/ Je prévois de passer par la cie Air Asia pour le retour de Chiang Mai vers BKK mais n'étant pas véritablement bilingue, pouvez vous me dire quel est le prix du kilo supplémentaire qu'ils appliquent au delà des 15 kilos ?
J'aurais probablement d'autres questions mais je verrais plus tard

Ton programme me parait très bien, tu as prévu suffisamment de temps à chaque endroit pour en profiter. Nous avons fait un circuit semblable l'année dernière à part que nous ne sommes pas allés à Ayuthaya donc je ne saurais pas te dire si cet endroit est incontournable ou pas !
Par contre, je trouve dommage que vous ne prévoyiez pas une journée de plus à Bangkok : le premier jour vous risquez d'être fatigués et de ne pas voir grand chose et du coup une journée complète sur place serait quand même intéressante pour découvrir la ville et peut être faire un peu de shopping.
Tu dois pouvoir faire certains trajets en bus ou train de nuit (je te conseille le train, plus confortable et plus sûr) ce qui te permettra peut être de gagner une journée de plus à la plage comme tu le souhaitais.
Pas de problème pour voyager en Thaïlande sans tour opérateur, c'est un pays très accueillant et où tout est bien organisé. Comme en plus la plupart des gens parlent anglais tu n'auras aucun soucis pour te débrouiller.

Notre tour du monde d'un an d'août 2006 à août 2007 :
1/ Depend de ce que tu cherche. J'ai passe 2 jours a Ayuthaya, ce qui n'etait pas de trop au vu de la quantite de choses a visite (temples, kraal des elephants...). D'ailleur si je peux me permettre, je te recommande le Baan Lotus Guest House qui etait vraiment tres agreable et qui nous a fourni une visite de nuit des temples et du kraal des elephant pour 70 baths...
2/ Pour les bus entre Sukhothai vers Chiang Mai, tu trouvera tout ce qu'il te faut a la gare de bus de Sukhothai (de tete, 200 baths pour un bus vip, 5h de trajet de jour). De nuit, meme si il y en a, je te le deconseil, tu arrivera au milieu de la nuit a Chiang Mai
Comme te l'a recommande une autre personne, je te conseil un jour plus a BKK, afin de visiter au moins le grand palais, qui vaut vraiment le detour (y aller le matin, moins de monde et on profite du chant des moines...)

Pour le trek a chiang mai, je ne me souviens plus de l'endroit ou j'ai reserver, mais il s'agissait d'une journee, pour 800 bath (1000 bath indique, mais puisque hors saison, nous avons eu une reduction) qui comprenais : Rencontre avec les villages Karen dans les montagnes (rando de 2h environ) Balade a dos d'elephant dans la jungle (environ 1h sur le dos de la grosse bete ;-)) Repas le long d'une riviere Descente en rafting de la riviere (1h de descente sur4 gros bambous attaches ensembles...le "pilote" avait le sens de l'humour et puisqu'il a vu qu'on s'amusait bien avec lui, on a tous fini a l'eau plusieurs fois, lui y compris...). Petit excursion jusqu'a un autre village dans les montagne pour y voir une tres belle chute
d'eau
Nous etions un petit groupe de 6 personnes, et nous n'avons pas vu d'autres touristes de la journee !
Je ne peux malheureusement pas te donner ni le numero du baan thai lotus, ni de l'endroit ou j'ai reserver le trek car je suis en deplacement loin de chez moi jusqu'au mois de mars. De memoire, c'etait un petit bureau, dans la rue en face du Wat Phar Sing. Ils proposent tous plus ou moins la meme chose, donc si la description resemble, cela surement au meme endroit...
D'apres mes discussions avec des Thai, les treks vers les villages des femmes aux cou et aux oreilles allonges sont tres touristiques et ont perdu de leurs charmes...
ok j'essaierais de retrouver le type de treck dont tu parles car il me convient parfaitement sauf que j'aurais préféré être à cru sur le gros néléphant plutôt que sur les sièges mais bon...

Ne deviens pas toi-meme un tour opérateur pour vs 2! ça me parrait honnetement un poil speed comme programme...Bon je sais que 15 j. c' est pas lourd...Mais essayez -sauf si vs etes avides de polution- de zapper Bangkok dès le départ. A votre arrivée, prenez plutot 1 vol pour Chiang mai et redescendez tranquilles par les sites historiques que vs voulez visiter...Et finir (snif-snif-snif) par 1 ptite ile ne fera que vs donner envie de retourner en THAILANDE !!! Et ne t' embetes-pas pour le cout d un surplus de baggages, ça reste raisonnable et tu restes gagnante...bon voyage!!!🙂

Je vous rassure partir quinze jours en Thailande aujourd'hui ce n'est plus un exploit.
La Thailande est un pays où le tourisme est bien implanté et bien développé.
Votre programme est classique et facilement réalisable.
1er jour pas le temps de récuperer, il faut vite sortir, le temps passe très vite et Bangkok c'est grand.
2eme jour pas la peine de rester dormir à Ayuthaya, c'est tout prés de Bangkok et on peut faire l'allé retour dans la journée, il suffit de partir tôt.
3eme jour il faut prévoir de s'arreter dans le trajet et une nuit à Sukkhothai c'est suffisant.
5ème jour là aussi on peut prévoir des arrêts pendant la montée, il y a des choses à voir et moi je préfererai rester plus de jours à Bangkok plutôt que rester à Chiang Mai. Il faut se rapeler que Bangkok c'est la capitale, est comme toutes les capitales c'est certainement là qu'il y a le plus de choses à faire.
Vous pouvez voire le voyage que j'ai fais en 2007 sur mon blog, il vous donnera peut être d'autres idées, allé courage la préparation d'un voyage c'est aussi excitant que le voyage par lui même.

Je tenais dans un premier temps à tous vous remercier pour avoir été disponible et pour vos conseils dont j'ai bien pris note.
Cependant la liste de mes questions de s'arrête pas là, alors si il vous reste un peu (beaucoup) de temps merci de penser à moi :
1/ Quelqu'un sait il où je dois prendre exactement le bateau (thai et non pour les touristes) qui va à Ayatthaya par le fleuve et combien de temps dure le trajet ?
2/ Y a t'il un bus (confortable) qui va de Ayutthaya à Sukhothai et qui me ferait gagner du temps par rapport à la solution train + Bus (environ 5 h 00) ? Si oui où est ce que je trouve ce bus et ces horaires, faut il réserver ?
3/ J'arrive à 7 h 30 le matin au nouvel aéroport de BKK. Si je souhaitais aller directement sur Ayutthaya comment dois je procéder ?
* de l'aérport pour aller à la gare (dont je ne connais pas le nom)
* combien de temps faut il pour y aller
* à partir du moment où on descend de l'avion il faut compter combien de temps pour être "libre" ?
4/ A mon retour de Chiang Mai, que je ferais finalement par le train de nuit, j'arriverais à la gare de bkk (dont je ne connais toujours pas le nom !) au petit matin du samedi 15/03 car je souhaite aller au marché de Chatuchak et/ou Talat Nam Wat Saï
* comment aller à ces deux endroit depuis la gare ? et combein de temps faut il ?
* en terme de timing je pense avoir le temps de reprendre le soir même un train de nuit pour Chumpong, est je raison ?
5/ D'une manière générale je privilégie les trains de nuits car il me semble que c'est le moyen de perdre le moins de temps, est ce exact selon vous ?
6/ Y a t'il des consignes (pour les bagages) dans chaque gare (BKK, Ayutthaya, Sukkhotai, Chiang Mai, Chumpong) ?
7/ Sur Koh tao je souhaite loger au Coral view resort (en basic island hute ou stone bungalow). Quelqu'un peut il me donner son avis sur cet hotel et les logements ?

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
