Alright, I’m scaling back the kilometers thanks to the relevance and patience of our Cambodia experts! Here’s yet another hesitation /\ When I arrive early on 01/12 in PP, I have the choice between spending a day in PP (booking a convenience room for half a day and leaving by night bus), sleeping in PP and taking the bus to SR the next morning, or hiring a driver to head back up to PP with a nice little stop and maybe sleeping in Kampong Thom or Kampong Chhnang, then heading to SP on the 13th. Then from the 13th to the 17th or 18th, exploring Angkor. I continue to Kampong Thom and stay for 2 nights (if I didn’t do it on the way there), but I might be templed-out by then. I head to Kampong Cham, where I’ll spend 2 nights—one on the island and one on the mainland. Next, I go to Kampot and Kep: probably 2 nights in Kampot, 2 in Kep, and 1 night on Tonsay Island. On 01/28, I return to PP until 01/29. One detail: how long does it take to get from downtown PP to the new airport? Because I leave on 01/29 around 7:50 PM... I saw that by plane it takes 3h30 with a layover in Siem Reap, so no thanks—I was thinking of taking the bus. How much time should I allow between leaving Koh Rong Island by ferry and then the bus, so I can plan my return to France? Or is a taxi an option? Thanks for your tips!

Afin d'être libre de nos mouvements et s'éviter les trajets en tuk-tuk de/vers Angkor (et bénéficier d'un peu de clim 😛), on imagine prendre un véhicule avec chauffeur durant nos 3 jours sur place.

Ou alors, faut il faire Kompong chhnang direct aller et retour depuis Phnom Pen dans la journée et ensuite faire bus direct Phnom Pen Battambang ?

Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!! I think there are, but I’d need more details!! Hi everyone! I’ve booked flights to Phnom Penh for August 26 (no layover in the Emirates as a precaution...). We arrive on Sunday, August 2 in the morning and leave on August 19 around 9 PM (also from Phnom Penh). We’re a couple traveling with three kids aged 9 to 16. Among the many questions I have about our itinerary, a few are standing out: If we arrive in Phnom Penh exhausted, I imagine we’ll need to stay one night there before heading to Siem Reap... but how much time should we spend there to enjoy Angkor in good conditions? Then, Mondulkiri or Battambang? (Because I don’t want it to be a total rush, changing accommodation every two days and praying that bus transfers or private drivers go as planned...). Where does Tonlé Sap Lake fit into all this? And if we end with a beach stay: is Koh Rong a must, or is there another spot? Also, what about the return logistics: should we spend the night before our flight in Phnom Penh to be safe... or do we do everything on August 19... like taking a boat and then the road from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, risking missing our flight if anything goes wrong? Anyway, a huge thank you in advance for your valuable tips and feedback!

Hi everyone, We’re planning to return to Cambodia in July 2026, as a family, for the third time. Since we’ve already visited Siem Reap and Battambang, we’re not considering going back this time. Instead, we’d like to travel more slowly and take the time to settle in. We’re thinking of an itinerary around Mondulkiri, Kampot, and Koh Kong (Tatai waterfalls, mangroves, etc.). For those who know the Koh Kong province and Mondulkiri well: are these areas still accessible and enjoyable during the rainy season? We’d also like to spend 2 or 3 days on an island, but we’re not sure if it’s really feasible at this time of year (sea conditions, boat crossings…). If it’s doable, which one would you recommend? We’re planning to spend only a short time in Phnom Penh, then a few days with family near Koh Thom. If you have any other ideas, firsthand experiences, or suggestions for stops that work well for a trip in July, we’d love to hear them. Thanks in advance !

Hello, I’m starting to plan my adventure in Cambodia. I’ve read a lot of your posts and really appreciate all your articles. Now it’s my turn to share my plans with you: 12/01 arrival in PP 13/01 arrival in SR where I’ll meet up with 2 friends for 6 days exploring the temples and surrounding areas 19/01 I’ll leave and finish the trip solo. I fly back on 29/01 at 8 PM, so I’ve got 10 days for a little immersion. The dilemma is whether to: # head to Battambang, then make my way to PP, Kampot, and 2 nights by the sea # go to Kratie and head down to Kampot with 2 nights by the sea (or, to cut down on kilometers, go via Kampong Cham to Kampot). We’re thinking of heading to Cambodia in August for two weeks with our three older kids (after considering Sri Lanka, Malaysia, etc.). We know it’s the rainy season, but the kids are a bit worried they won’t enjoy the trip. They’d love to end with two or three nights by the sea, but I’ve read that the weather can be even worse on the islands. For those who’ve visited Cambodia in August—would you still recommend it? Hi everyone, we’ll be in Thailand from August 2nd to 21st, arriving in Bangkok on the 2nd for a visit. From the 5th to the 8th: Angkor temples. Then, starting on the 9th, we’re planning to head to Chiang Mai, and by the 14th or 15th, we’d like to be on an island until the 19th, when we return to Bangkok. Five days in Chiang Mai seems a bit long to us. What do you recommend between the 9th and 15th, and which island? We’re not big fans of sunbathing—we’d love to snorkel and explore the island. Ideally, I’d have liked to find a house to rent, but every time, I end up with places far from the beach, whereas we’d really like to be able to walk to the beach for strolls. By the way, are there a lot of shells? Can we collect them? It seems that in August, swimming can sometimes be tricky due to tides—is that true? Thanks to all the contributors! 😊

Bonjour Je sais que le sujet a été maintes fois abordé, mais je ne réussis pas à avoir des informations précises et récentes qui ne brodent pas sur les tours et les contours de la question; alors si quelques personnes VRAIMENT informées peuvent me répondre , merci d'avance. Nous avons l'intention de passer au Cambodge depuis Trat par la frontière de Hat Lek Nous n'avons pas de e visa et nous souhaitons uniquement les faire au poste frontière. Nous ne voulons pas nous appesantir sur des pages sur le fait de ce que l'on nomme les arnaques . OK , le visa est à 30 $ et on va nous demander peut être 35, (mais pas 350...) donc nous n'avons pas envie d'être les champions de l'aventure à qui on ne la fait pas. On préfère avoir la paix et payer 35 $, la question n'est pas là . Est il facile d'obtenir son visa avec une photo et les 30 (ou 35 $) au poste frontière ? Y a t'il des heures d'ouverture et de fermeture du poste frontière ? Le mini bus pris à Trat nous emmène-t-il directement au poste frontière ou, (nous préfèrerions) directement à Koh Kong après notre passage de frontière et l' obtention des visas ?

Tout ce que nous lisons se résume aux arnaques, ce qui semble être une obsession et l'unique préoccupation de certains, ne répondant finalement pas aux questions qui se posent Pour notre part nous n'avons pas envie de nous prendre la tête une demi-journée avec un flic ou un taxi qui veut 1 ou 5 $ de plus que le tarif officiel. C'est comme certains que j'ai vu dans d'autres pays d'Asie faire chier un taxi pour négocier pendant des heures et gagner ou pas 50 roupies sur la course. ( C'est à dire quelque chose comme 10 centimes à 1 euro) Nous on préfère voyager plutôt que faire la guerre à tous ceux ceux vont nous demander un peu plus ...et pourrir notre voyage avec le sentiment d'être (comme je le lis parfois sur le Cambodge au royaume de l'arnaque... Dans ce cas n'y allez pas ! allez plutôt à Genève les prix sont fixes ...) Si j'écris tout cela c'est qu'au final aux questions posées sur ces passages de frontière entre Thaïlande et Cambodge on ne répond pas et on ne parle plus que des éventuelles arnaques. Nous ne sommes pas riches ni complètement crétins et nous avons comme tout le monde nos limites .Nous souhaitons simplement avoir des informations utiles et pertinentes. Merci et bon voyage à tous

Je pars avec des amis 12 jours au Cambodge au mois de janvier, et nous allons passer rapidement Phnom Penh, visiter Siem Reap (3j) et aller sur la cote pendant 4 jours. J'aimerais bien faire un petit tour dans une ville afin de voir un peu de campagne, pourquoi pas faire des petites randonnées, si possible dans des coins authentiques.

J'hésite entre aller 3 jours soit à Battambang ou soit à Kampong Cham. Quel coin me conseillez-vous ? Ce serait plutôt pour des visites de lieux culturels, voir de beaux paysages et trouver des villages avec des gens sympas.

Voici le circuit que j'ai crée et j'aimerai avoir votre avis sachant que nous arrivons et repartons de Phnom Penh (PP) PP : 2 nuits, visite des marchés et des pagodes. Savez vous si la messe de Noël est célébrée et si oui , dans quelle église? (je n'ai rien trouvé sur ce sujet sur internet) Kompong Cham: 2 nuits, peut être prendre un guide avec tuk tuk pour visiter la ville et les villages environnants, louer un vélo pour se rendre sur l'ile de Koh Pen Kompong Thom: 2 nuits, visite des villages environnants. Kampong Phluk ? pour être au bord du Tolé Sap. Siem REap: 4 nuits, visites des temples d'Ankor et de la ville. Puis prendre le bateau jusqu'à Battambang : 8 h de bateau Battambang: 2 nuits , visite de la ville. Puis bus jusquà Kep ou alors faire une escale dans une ville entre Batttambang et PP ? A kep : louer une vespa et se ballader , Puis Kampot: louer une vespa, visiter une ferme de poivre Aller sur une ile? retour sur PP voilà plus ou moins notre périple . Le nombre de nuits n'est pas fixe. Pensez vous que c'est jouable en 18jours ou bien est ce trop fatiguant? Avez vous d'autres propositions? En arrivant à PP quel est le transport le plus adapté pour se rendre en ville? J'ai lu que le train était gratuit. Merci par avance pour vos conseils.
