Hi, We’ve planned a week in the delta, but sometimes I wonder if that’s not too much… We’ll be there in early February, and the idea is to take a taxi straight from Saigon Airport to Ben Tre. I’m counting on 3 nights to recover and adjust after the long trip. Then I was thinking of Sadec, Can Tho, Chau Doc, Ha Tien, and back to Saigon for 3 nights before a flight to Hoi An. We’ve got 6 weeks total, so we have a bit of time. After reading different travel stories, the destinations in the delta seem a bit repetitive—I keep seeing the same excursions. On the other hand, I also think having time is a chance to get to know the local life a little better. My question really comes down to this: for those of you who travel at a relaxed pace, do you have any tips? I’ve heard the floating markets aren’t that interesting anymore. Also, motorbikes aren’t our thing. Thanks

Voici le circuit que j'ai crée et j'aimerai avoir votre avis sachant que nous arrivons et repartons de Phnom Penh (PP) PP : 2 nuits, visite des marchés et des pagodes. Savez vous si la messe de Noël est célébrée et si oui , dans quelle église? (je n'ai rien trouvé sur ce sujet sur internet) Kompong Cham: 2 nuits, peut être prendre un guide avec tuk tuk pour visiter la ville et les villages environnants, louer un vélo pour se rendre sur l'ile de Koh Pen Kompong Thom: 2 nuits, visite des villages environnants. Kampong Phluk ? pour être au bord du Tolé Sap. Siem REap: 4 nuits, visites des temples d'Ankor et de la ville. Puis prendre le bateau jusqu'à Battambang : 8 h de bateau Battambang: 2 nuits , visite de la ville. Puis bus jusquà Kep ou alors faire une escale dans une ville entre Batttambang et PP ? A kep : louer une vespa et se ballader , Puis Kampot: louer une vespa, visiter une ferme de poivre Aller sur une ile? retour sur PP voilà plus ou moins notre périple . Le nombre de nuits n'est pas fixe. Pensez vous que c'est jouable en 18jours ou bien est ce trop fatiguant? Avez vous d'autres propositions? Alright, I’m scaling back the kilometers thanks to the relevance and patience of our Cambodia experts! Here’s yet another hesitation /\ When I arrive early on 01/12 in PP, I have the choice between spending a day in PP (booking a convenience room for half a day and leaving by night bus), sleeping in PP and taking the bus to SR the next morning, or hiring a driver to head back up to PP with a nice little stop and maybe sleeping in Kampong Thom or Kampong Chhnang, then heading to SP on the 13th. Then from the 13th to the 17th or 18th, exploring Angkor. I continue to Kampong Thom and stay for 2 nights (if I didn’t do it on the way there), but I might be templed-out by then. I head to Kampong Cham, where I’ll spend 2 nights—one on the island and one on the mainland. Next, I go to Kampot and Kep: probably 2 nights in Kampot, 2 in Kep, and 1 night on Tonsay Island. On 01/28, I return to PP until 01/29. One detail: how long does it take to get from downtown PP to the new airport? Because I leave on 01/29 around 7:50 PM... Anyway, I’m ready to read your unfiltered reactions 🤓 and thank you in advance for your help!

So, my flight tickets have just been booked for a trip to Cambodia from November 4th to 27th, 2025. I’ll be traveling solo and want to explore this amazing country while getting a bit off the beaten path. I’m arriving in Phnom Penh and also departing from Phnom Penh. My goal is to travel as much as possible by bus and scooter. What itinerary would you recommend? What are the must-do things? I’m open to all tips and info. Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Hi everyone! I’ve booked flights to Phnom Penh for August 26 (no layover in the Emirates as a precaution...). We arrive on Sunday, August 2 in the morning and leave on August 19 around 9 PM (also from Phnom Penh). We’re a couple traveling with three kids aged 9 to 16. Among the many questions I have about our itinerary, a few are standing out: If we arrive in Phnom Penh exhausted, I imagine we’ll need to stay one night there before heading to Siem Reap... but how much time should we spend there to enjoy Angkor in good conditions? Then, Mondulkiri or Battambang? (Because I don’t want it to be a total rush, changing accommodation every two days and praying that bus transfers or private drivers go as planned...). Where does Tonlé Sap Lake fit into all this? And if we end with a beach stay: is Koh Rong a must, or is there another spot? Also, what about the return logistics: should we spend the night before our flight in Phnom Penh to be safe... or do we do everything on August 19... like taking a boat and then the road from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, risking missing our flight if anything goes wrong? Anyway, a huge thank you in advance for your valuable tips and feedback!

Je pars avec des amis 12 jours au Cambodge au mois de janvier, et nous allons passer rapidement Phnom Penh, visiter Siem Reap (3j) et aller sur la cote pendant 4 jours. J'aimerais bien faire un petit tour dans une ville afin de voir un peu de campagne, pourquoi pas faire des petites randonnées, si possible dans des coins authentiques.

J'hésite entre aller 3 jours soit à Battambang ou soit à Kampong Cham. Quel coin me conseillez-vous ? Ce serait plutôt pour des visites de lieux culturels, voir de beaux paysages et trouver des villages avec des gens sympas.

Bonjour à tous, Nous revenons d'un périple de 3 semaines en juillet aout avec 2 semaines sur le Nord Vietnam (Hanoï, les montagnes du NO vers Ha Giang à deux pas de la frontière chinoise puis les deux baies d'Halong (terrestre et maritime), le delta du fleuve rouge (à faire; pas de touristes rencontrés), Hué, Hoï An et vol pour le Cambodge de Da Nang pour SiemReap pour les temples d'Angkor puis le lac Tonlé Sap au centre du pays et enfin Pnohm Penh pour le retour France, Nice avec Emirates via Dubaï. Nous avons été trés loins de notre "zone de confort" parfois lorsque chez l'habitant et souvent éloignés des zones touristiques que ce soit pour loger ou pour manger. Nous avons évités toutes ces agences sur Hanoï qui vous proposent les mêmes choses en 1/2 ou 3 jours. Je vous recommande notre guide francophone si cela vous intéresse. Il est indépendant et en plus est féru de botanique et se déplace sur l'ensemble du Vietnam. Une belle rencontre.

Pour le Cambodge, restez sur Siem Reap et les temples d'Angkor, le reste peut être évité.

I’m planning and organizing a wonderful trip to Vietnam from mid-March to mid-April 2026, traveling independently for a month with my wife to enjoy her new retirement. Here’s a summary of our itinerary: We arrive in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of Wednesday, March 18, and depart from Hanoi on the evening of Thursday, April 16. First, I’d like to head to Ho Chi Minh City because the temperatures are high in that region in mid-March. After that, we’ll visit Phu Quoc Island and then the Mekong Delta. We’ll return to Ho Chi Minh City and take a flight to Hue for 2 days, then Tam Coc / Ninh Binh (2-3 days), and Cat Ba Island with a visit to Lan Ha Bay (4 days). We’ll spend a few days in Hanoi, followed by 3-4 days in Sapa with some hikes, and then the Ha Giang loop (4 days). (I’m a motorcyclist—I ride a BMW trail bike and have taken care of renewing my international license.) We’re considering renting a motorcycle or bicycles when needed, except in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The weather in northern Vietnam in early April should theoretically be decent. Finally, we’ll return to Hanoi before heading back to Paris and the Pays de la Loire. Unfortunately, I’m skipping Angkor in Cambodia. I’d like to have a guide for 1 or 2 days in Sapa (which typical agency would you recommend?), and I’m wondering if I should book an agency for the 4 days in Ha Giang. I prefer my independence and don’t really like the "group" aspect of agencies. I’ll rent a 150cc motorcycle, and my wife will ride with me. Other questions: What are some good, typical accommodations to book in the places we’ve identified? Thanks for any info. Did I forget anything, or should we adjust our itinerary? We’re torn between going or not and spending an extra night in Ninh Binh (or somewhere else you’d recommend! Somewhere with a more picturesque vibe) given the late-December weather and cost (which agency do you recommend?). Day 1: Hanoi Day 2: Halong Bay (Lan Ha) Day 3: Halong Bay (Lan Ha) Day 4: Hue Day 5: Danang Day 6: Danang Day 7: Hoi An Day 8: Hoi An/My Son Day 9: Hanoi

After reading almost all the discussions about Vietnam, I don’t see anything about transportation options for getting from Hue to Danang, then from Danang to Hoi An. Any ideas (train, bus)? From the map, it looks like Danang is close to Hoi An—easily accessible by taxi, right?

Also, after reading lots of comments and websites, I’ve noticed that Danang, aside from being a big developing city, seems to be more about hotels for relaxing on the beach—very laid-back, isn’t it? Not really a place to visit like Hanoi or Hoi An.

Generally speaking, if you have any recommendations for the itinerary or tips, I’d love to hear them.

I’ll post a trip report when we get back.

We’re two couples and a 4-year-old child. Should we book through an agency in Hanoi and do the circuit by van, or can we manage with buses—like an overnight bus from Hanoi to Sapa, then 2–3 days in the Sapa region, followed by a bus from Sapa to Ha Giang for a 3-day loop? The land border between Thailand and Cambodia has been closed since June 23 for an indefinite period. It is therefore necessary to take an air route to enter or leave Cambodia.

Nearby tourist areas are strongly discouraged: the Mom Bei region (Preah Vihear province) and the temple complexes of Ta Moan Thom, Ta Moan Tauch, and Ta Krabei (Oddar Meanchey province).

Access from or to the Laotian and Vietnamese land borders is not affected by this restriction.

Hi everyone, I’ve got a big project in northern Vietnam—discovering the most beautiful rice terraces before the harvest... I’m planning to leave around September 15th until October 15th, then spend 15 days exploring the two bays, Lan Ha and Ha Long. In total, 45 days without a visa... I’m traveling solo and very independent. But is it possible to do this kind of trip using local trains and buses? My plan is to leave Hanoi for Nghia Lo (2 days), then Mu Cang Chai (4 days), Sapa (4 days), Bac Ha (2 days), Ha Giang... Hoang Su Phi, then do the Meo Vac loop, Dong Van, etc., to see those stunning karst peaks before heading back to Hanoi. In my research, I haven’t found any buses or vans going from Hanoi to Nghia Lo, even though it’s super popular for its rice terrace landscapes.... I don’t want a daily driver, but I’m thinking I could use moto-taxis to get around locally once I’m there.... What do you think? These rice terraces are a dream for me, along with the markets and all the different ethnic groups, not to mention those spectacular rocky peaks... Is the itinerary too ambitious? I’ve got time on my side. Do you have any solutions? I’ve browsed the forum a lot, but the discussions are 5 or 6 years old, and I think things have changed since then. En juillet 2020, nous partons à Ho Chi Minh pour le travail. Ensuite, nous comptons nous rendre à Hanoi d'où nous reprenons le vol international. Nous quitterons Ho Chi Minh ville an avion le samedi matin (ou vendredi soir) pour arriver à Hanoi d'où nous repartirons le mercredi soir. Nous avons dans l'idée de faire une excursion à la baie de Halong durant une journée et voudrions également voir des rizières en terrasse et se balader dedans. Pensez-vous qu'il est possible et raisonnable de faire ce programme en si peu de temps? Nous n'avons pas encore réservé notre vol intérieur donc nous pouvons aussi atterir à un autre endroit plus proche d'une rizière pour n'avoir qu'un trajet vers Hanoï à faire. Quel itinéraire proposeriez vous ? Quel est le moyen de transport à privilégier sachant que nous voyagerons à deux femmes et que nous sommes non-conductrices, tenant compte que ce sera la saison des pluies? A Ho Chi Minh nous avons deux week-ends de libre, nous en consacrerons un pour le delta du Mekong et n'avons encore rien de prévu pour l'autre, y aurait-il des rizières en terrasse dans la région?

Actually, we’re on a rhythm of 1 transfer day and 2 visit days, which doesn’t fully satisfy us. That’s why we’re wondering: Is it possible to stay in one accommodation for visits to Cai Be, Binh Island, and Vinh Long (including our day trip to Sa Dec)? Do you see any other ways to adjust the itinerary? Any oversights? We also still need to look into the transfer details. Thanks for your tips! fg

Je prépare mon voyage qui aura lieu entre mars et début avril pour une durée de 3 bonnes semaines. Je fais mon A/R par Ho Chi Minh, consciente que cela peut être une contrainte qui m'obligera à faire une boucle puisque je souhaite remonter jusque dans le centre du pays, plus précisément jusqu'à Phong Nha, et terminer par quelques jours sur les îles de Con Dao.

J'ai fait plusieurs voyages en bus de l'Inde à L'Indonésie en passant par la Birmanie, et bien que je sois un peu moins contrainte financièrement qu'à l'époque, je n'ai pas non plus envie de me déplacer en avion ou avec chauffeur privé tout du long. Pour autant j'ai des difficultés à appréhender le meilleur trajet compte tenu de ce que j'aimerai visiter. Voici la liste des "étapes" (non ordonnées) que j'espère pouvoir visiter, cependant je m'en remets à vos expériences pour me dire ce qui est faisable (durée du séjour, distances):

- départ et retour de HCMV - Cat Tien - Phong Nha: j'ai prévu de faire un tour de 2 jours aux grottes de Tu Lan. - Hoi An & alentours - Hué & alentours (Bach Ma...) - Dalat - Con Dao (pour clôturer le séjour, je pense à 4 jours/3 nuits)

Je pensais relier Hué<>Hoi An en scooter. N'hésitez pas à me faire part de vos commentaires !

Nous avons du temps, pas un gros budget et l'envie de voir un max de choses sans forcément être dans le troupeau. Mais on n'a plus 20 ans donc on recherche un peu de confort :-))) : plutôt homestay que hostel, trains couchettes en mode confort, minibus limousine , bus/minibus privés. Voici ce qu'on a prévu : pouvez-vous me donner votre avis sur le circuit ? On a encore quelques questions sur le transport entre les différents lieux donc si vous avez des suggestions ;-)

Hanoï 2 jrs Pagode des Parfums depuis Hanoï en bus 1 jr puis retour sur Cat Ba (? je sèche sur le transport) ou sur Hanoi Baie de Lan Ha via Cat Bà : croisière 2 jrs Nin Binh en bus depuis Cat Bà (grottes de Trang An/ parc de Cuc Phuong) : 2 jrs Phong Na en prenant un train de nuit pour Dong Hoï (ou Hué??) puis le bus : 2 jrs Hué : 2 jrs Hoï Han en bus via le col des nuages : 2 jrs Kom Tu : 2 jrs de trek -> nous n'iront pas dans le Nord compte tenu de la période alors nous avons envie de découvrir les villages des ethnies des hauts plateaux du centre Littoral de Nha Trang : : pas encore fixés, petit séjour balnéaire mais si possible sans trop de béton et de touriste (on pense aller à Dai Lanh) 2 jrs Ile de la baleine 2 jrs pour plonger Puis trajet jusqu'au Delta du Mekong : ? pas encore fixés sur le mode de transport Ile d'An Binh puis Can Tho pour rayonner depuis ces 2 points : 3 jrs HCMV : 2 jrs puis départ

Bonjour, Nous partons à Da nang le 4 février à 2 pour 30 jours de visites, découvertes, ballades et repos tranquillou ! Nous avons de ne faire que le centre de façon à réserver le nord pour une autre saison et le sud pour une autre année (donc on ne descendrait pas jusqu' Dalat) ! Nous avons épluché le routard et le lonely et parcouru le forum qui regorge d'informations passionnantes ........et c'est le pb car nous ne savons plus comment orienter notre séjour. Aussi je pose les questions en vrac . 1/ ce qui est fixé : arrivé à Danang et direct à Hoi An = 7 jours pour rayonner puis Hué = 4 ou 5 jours ?? (nous aimons prendre notre temps) 2/ Ensuite reste donc 17 ou 18 jours pour faire Kontum, Buon Ma Thuot et remonter vers Da nang en faisant une ou 2 escales sur des plages : Doc let ? Qui Nhon (bai Xep ?)

Que pensez vous de la faisabilité en fonction des temps de transport ? Quelles sont les durées de transports ? N'est-ce pas "redondant" de faire une étape à Kontum et à BMT sachant que nous n'aimons pas faire des escales de moins de 2 jours ? Est-ce possible d'aller en louant une moto visiter seul les villages à la journée ? et les campagnes environnantes ?

Pour la remontée et escale plage (avant retour dans froid et grisaille parisienne) vos avis ?

Désolé, je sais que tout çà a déjà été énoncé dans des carnets de voyage (j'en ai 6 pages de notes!) mais je n'arrive pas à synthétiser et "essentialiser"
