For the past two months, I’ve been checking flight ticket prices to spend 4.5 weeks in Thailand from early July to early August. I’m traveling from Brussels with a young child, so I want to avoid layovers. That’s why I’m only looking at Thai Airways’ website and only choosing direct flights.

At the end of August, I saw tickets for 955 € per person. On October 1st, they were 1,225 €. Today (October 22nd), the price is the same as on October 1st. (Same dates: Departure: July 4th, Return: August 7th.)

My question is: Is it possible these prices will drop significantly in the coming months?

Note: I clear my browser cache before every search, which I always do during the week and in the evening. This time, I also checked with my work computer, which has a VPN. So, the price isn’t influenced by cookies.

Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news. I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us? • Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia? • Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)? Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

LOEI (4 days/5 nights): Phu Kradung – Chiang Khan and surrounding areas, depending on what’s worth seeing

Loei -> Buriram

PHIMAI (Nakhon Ratchasima/Khorat) (5 days/6 nights): Phimai – Prasat Muang Tam – Phanom Rung – Prasat Phanom Wan

Phimai -> Khorat (airport or train station) -> Bangkok (overnight in Bangkok)

Day 46: BANGKOK -> KOCHI

Bonjour, L'année dernière, nous sommes passés à Chan AM, petite ville au dessus d'Hui HIN. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié son immense plage extrêmement bien entretenu et ces transats a disposition. Concernant la ville nous cherchons des infos, est-ce aussi vivant q'HH, les restaus en bord de plage sont-ils sympas et abordables.? Nous cherchons hôtels ou guesthouse bien situés pour y séjourner une 15 de jours , pas trop chers (20 a 30 euros pour 2) car nous séjournons 2 mois en Thaïlande. Bonjour, Nous avons acheté nos vols hier après midi. Malheureusement ce matin nous étions tenus de les annuler. Nous avons appelé ce matin le service clients de Qatar Airways à Doha (bien que le numéro de téléphone soit français). Nous avons annulé nos vols téléphoniquement. (pas de délai de rétractation) puis nous devions recevoir un email de confirmation 6 minutes après : au bout d'une demie heure nous avons rappelé là nous devons être patients puis 1h après vous avez dû recevoir un mail nous as t-on dit et il faudra attendre que le service Back office s'en occupe : si aujourd'hui ou demain matin nous n'avons pas toujours reçu d'email de confirmation d'annulation, les rappeler...nous sommes allés alors sur le forum du routard et là, découverte que cette manière de procéder n'est pas nouvelle avec cette compagnie. Nous ne savons plus quoi faire : attendre une hypothétique réponse ou et attendre le remboursement (la moitie de la dépense) qui interviendrait 2 semaines ou 4 semaines après... Quelqu'un a t-il rencontré ce problème? A qui vous êtes vous adressé? comment avez vous fait! à notre âge (plus de 70 ans) notre stresse va grandissant>. Bonjour J'ai trouvé un logement à Krabi. J'ai contacté l'agence par mail il me demande de réserver par mail en donnant mes coordonnées CB. J'ai refusé. Ils me proposent donc de faire un virement de la moitié de la Somme ~100€ Mais je n'ai aucun document prouvant ma réservation. Sur booking le logement est plus cher. Comment ça se passe pour les réservations la bas ? Je peux faire confiance ? Merci

Nous sommes une famille avec 2 filles de 12 et 13 ans. Nous partons du 17/12 au 07/01 pour un séjour en Thaïlande, mon rêve.

Nous avons décidé pour le moment de faire Bangkok, ayutthaya, sukhothai, peut être chiang mai sinon on redescend à Bangkok en train de nuit pour aller ensuite à Krabi (on hésite avec samui) puis retour sur Bangkok avec un arrêt à erawan. Mon itinéraire fera l'objet d'une nouveau post.

Donc ma question étant dois je obligatoirement réserver mes hôtels à l'avance ou est ce que je trouverais des hôtels pas cher sur place (max 40€/nuit) au vu de mes dates de séjour ? Les hôtels présents en Thaïlande sont ils TOUS sur les plateformes de réservation ?

Our flights are booked, and we’ll arrive in Thailand at the beginning of January.

Originally, we were supposed to spend 14 days there. But after booking the flights and seeing the prices, we’ll now be there for 20 days instead.

Our initial plan was: 2 days in Bangkok 1 day in Ayutthaya 4 days in Chiang Mai 6 days around Krabi

So we have 7 more days to fill. What do you recommend?

An extra day in Bangkok? Adding more days in the north? If so, where? Exploring another region, like Kanchanaburi or Cheow Lan Lake? Traveling north in stages instead of taking the overnight train?

A few extra details about us: For us, vacation isn’t about relaxation—we love walking, exploring, and packed days don’t bother us. Hiking for hours and doing active things is what makes us happy. That said, we also enjoy visiting villages and towns if they’re worth the detour. In Thailand, we’d like to visit temples too. We’re early risers, so our days tend to be long. 🙂 In short, we like to keep things moving during our trips. 😉

Unfortunately, seeing terraced rice fields isn’t possible in January. I read there are rice fields around Sukhothai. Are they green in January?

In the north, do you recommend Doi Inthanon, Huai Nam Dang, or Doi Chiang Dao National Parks? Which one is the most beautiful and best for January?

Hi there, My questions might be repetitive, but I’d love to find a hotel close to a beach where we can swim without having to travel too far. The teens would stay at the beach while we go on excursions.

J'arrive à Bangkok le dimanche 17 mai à 5h45 et j'aimerais me rendre à Hua In, on m'a conseillé le bus mais quand je vais sur le site de réservation je ne vois qu'11h30 comme heure de départ.

Depuis la prolongation de la ligne du MRT, qui traverse maintenant Chinatown (Bangkok), il pourrait être intéressant de trouver un hébergement simple à proximité d'une station ou d'un des piers de la CPEB Company dans Chinatown.

Mais je ne trouve rien dans le budget souhaité sur les sites de réservation. Je me demande donc si quelqu'un connait des guesthouses non répertoriées dans cette zone ?

- budget 600 bahts maxi (en mars ou avril) ; - fan room avec fenêtre ; - salle de bain et toilettes dans la chambre ; - wi-fi (pas de dortoir, pas de salle de bain commune)

Si une telle perle existe, il me faudrait une adresse e-mail, une page Facebook ou au pire un téléphone fixe pour joindre la guesthouse.

POur un voyage dans le sud de la Thailande en avril et plus précisément Krabi et environs, conseillez vous de réserver les hôtels de chaque étape bien à l'avance ou pensez- vous qu'on peut y aller au petit bonheur la chance pour la réservation des nuits d'hotel?

Nous pensons faire éventuellement le parc national Khao SoK, Krabi, la province de trang, et éventuellement Kho Muk et sa fameuse grotte des pirates.

Hello, I’m heading to Thailand for two weeks at the end of February with my family. I went there 20 years ago. I’d love your thoughts on a relaxed two-week trip that lets me show my kids the joys of travel while also taking time to unwind (after all, it *is* vacation! :)) I’m planning to spend 2 days in Bangkok, then take the overnight train to Chiang Mai (so my kids can experience that) and stay for 2-3 nights. After that, I’ll fly to Phuket for a few nights, then head to Koh Lanta for a few days before returning to Phuket to make my way back to Bangkok for the last two days before departure. Tons of people travel for two weeks during this time—any recommendations? So far, I only have my round-trip flight ticket to Bangkok. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I’ve been to Thailand three times a long time ago, and I’d love to visit neighboring countries too: Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia (while returning to Thailand 😛). The catch is that I’d like to go at the beginning of the year, but I’ve heard that’s peak tourist season for these countries. Ideally, I’d prefer to avoid peak season to save money (I’m not exactly rolling in it) and to be able to travel without reservations—without being forced to take a room in the local "palace" that still has availability because of its exorbitant prices.

From my distant memories of Thailand, I usually paid around the equivalent of 20 € per night (with a hearty breakfast) for a hotel room with a mini-bar.

What are the average prices for this type of accommodation in Thailand and its neighbors during "peak" season these days? Do prices fluctuate a lot depending on the season, or is tourist demand not that different from one season to another, keeping prices relatively stable? Are the chances of finding a "budget" room without a reservation still high, no matter the season, in this part of the world? 😇

Hi, I’d been told it was between 2,000 and 2,500 THB per day. 3,000 THB for Doi Inthanon... The driver I found gave me different prices depending on my destinations: 5,000 THB for the waterfalls in Doi Inthanon National Park, which I negotiated down to 4,000. Then 2,000 for Lamphun, 3,000 for another day, and two times 3,500 for two other itineraries I showed him. In total, 16,000 THB, which I negotiated down to 14,000. I’m wondering if I overpaid... Since I’m planning two more outings, I’d like to have a solid baseline for negotiating...

I’m right in the middle of peak season, and everything’s gone up considerably in Thailand. So I don’t want to put my foot in it by pointing out he might’ve overcharged me if that’s not the case... Thanks

Hi, I’m really interested in the "SUPREME bus" and especially the "Wiang Ping Super VIP Class Bus" with Sombat Tour for traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. But you can only book through their website, and it’s entirely in Thai. No agency allows booking for these buses from this company either. I haven’t found any way to make a reservation for either of these two buses... Has anyone traveled from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on one of these buses? Thanks so much

We (5 adults and 1 child) want to travel from Battambang to Chanthaburi via the Ban Pakkad border crossing. I’d like to know what transport options are available (bus, taxi, songthaew). Are there any direct buses from Battambang to Pailin (I haven’t found any) or from the Thai border to Chanthaburi? If you know of any taxi companies that might cover these routes, I’d really appreciate the info.

Hi, Has anyone else run into problems renting a car with a French credit card at Bangkok International Airport with international rental companies (like Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz)? These international car rental companies require a "credit card" to hold the deposit when picking up the vehicle. However, in several countries, French credit cards are considered "debit" cards rather than "credit" cards (even if "credit" is printed on your Visa bank card, for example). The rental agencies can't "block" the deposit with certain bank cards (though paying for the rental itself isn’t an issue), and they’ll refuse to give you the vehicle even if the rental was already paid during booking. I’ve already had this issue in several countries (Chile, Canada) with international rental companies that refused my bank card for holding the deposit, even though "credit" is clearly printed on my Visa Premier card. Has anyone encountered this problem in Bangkok? Thanks for your help! P.S.: I have a valid international driver’s permit, and I’ve searched the forum for answers about Thailand.

Bonjour Le départ approche dans 1mois et demi. Nous prenons le vol de la thai airways à Paris vers bkk à 12h30. Faut il manger avant ou y a t'il un repas du midi ? Le soir et le matin ? Et le retour départ 00h05 il y a que 1 petit dej avant l'atterrissage ?

Et dois je réserver nos sièges à l'avance ou lors de l'enregistrement on peut avoir des sièges cote à cote (nous sommes 4 dont 2 jeunes ados) si nous arrivons dans les 1ers ?

Services et commodités coffres-forts espace fumeur portier concierge ménage quotidien stockage de bagages et pas d'autre précision.

Certaines guest houses (New Siam II, 30 baths par jour) ont répondu à mon message, mais pas les 2 hôtels de cette catégorie. Merci si quelqu'un sait ( je passe pour une cruche mais je ne trouve pas ... et pourtant je cherche 😏)

Nous ne sommes pas des perdreaux de l'année et, à ce titre il a fallu que nous nous habituions au monde moderne, c'est à dire à voyager avec une tablette et à nous entendre dire à la réception d'un hôtel à Java, où nous voulions prolonger notre séjour: "Oui, vous pouvez rester deux nuits de plus. Par contre, passez par B...ing parce que moi, depuis ici, je ne peux pas vous faire le même tarif, ce sera forcément plus cher." Ma question est donc la suivante: Dois-je réserver l'intégralité de mes dix jours sur le net, seulement la première nuit? Sur le net j'ai trouvé taxi jusqu'à une gare qui se trouve à 2h de route et ensuite train. Mais il semble qu'il y ait des bus ... mais alors là ça m'a plutôt l'air d'être la jungle.

Si quelqu'un a la solution... je suis preneuse...
