J'envisage de faire mon premier voyage en solo et j'ai choisi le Cambodge et le Laos. Je pensais faire également le Vietnam mais je me suis vite aperçu que vouloir faire les 3 sans trop courir est un peu prétentieux.

Mon projet d'itinéraire au cambodge: Phnom Penh, Kep/Kampot, Battabang, Siam Reap Au Laos je voudrais le remonter du Sud au Nord : 4000 iles, Pakse et le plateau des Bolavens, Rivière souterraine de Kong Lor, Ventiane, Vang Vieng, Lulang Prabang, Nong Kiaw ou Muang Noi ou Phongsaly. Retour en France au départ de Lulang Prabang Je voudrais rejoindre le sud du Laos par la route via Kratie et Stung Treng

Possible tout ça en 1 mois ? Je voudrais aussi prendre mon temps et savourer chaque endroit.

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Bonjour Nous sommes un couple de 70 ans toujours pas fatigué des voyages . Nous allons partir le 1 novembre au Laos pour 1 mois. Comme d'habitude : 1 billet d'avion , 2 guides papier et le reste se décide sur place . Quelques questions : - A l'arrivée à Vientiane quelqu'un peut il me donner une adresse d'un hôtel ou guest housse pas cher ? - A l'aéroport quelle est la meilleure solution pour rejoindre le centre de Vientiane ? Bus , Taxi ... -Habituellement comment est la météo au mois de novembre ? - Le visa coûte moins cher quand on le prend à l'arrivée mais est ce facile et pas trop long pour l'obtenir ? - Si quelqu'un connaissant bien le Laos peut me donner des idées sur les choses les plus intéressantes à voir en 1 mois avec un petit budget je suis preneur .

Je prévois de partir environs 2 semaines en décembre pour le nord du Laos.

arrivé à Vientiane le 14 décembre normalement, je partirais sur Vang Vieng puis Luang Prabang et enfin Nong Khiaw et Muang Ngoy.

Ensuite j'aimerais rejoindre la Thailand (Chiang Rai) par la frontière Houei Sai/Chiang Khong via Luang Namtha mais apparemment il n'y aurait pas de bus directe de Nong Khiaw à Luang Namtha (ou alors j'ai pas cherché correctement).

Je vous saurais très reconnaissant si vous avez des tuyaux pour rejoindre Luang Namtha pour par cher. si vous avez quelques recommandations à me faire concernant mon itinéraire je suis également preneur.

Nous voulons aller à Kampot et Kep. Nous aimerions aussi aller à la plage. Est-ce que l’île aux lapins en vaut la peine?

2e question: devrions-nous réserver (étant donné le temps de l’année) tout de suite: - les avions - autobus - hébergements

3e question concerne la question des visas. Étant donné que nous devrions avoir un visas pour le Cambodge et un pour le Laos, est- ce qu’il y a un avantage à faire les démarches tout de suite sur internet? De plus étant donné que nous allons entrer 2 fois au Cambodge ( une fois Canada-Cambodge et l’autre Laos-cambodge), ;est-ce que cela signifie que nous devons avoir 2 visas par personne?

Hi there, I’d love to hear about your experiences getting back from Koh Rong to Phnom Penh. I saw that by plane it takes 3h30 with a layover in Siem Reap, so no thanks—I was thinking of taking the bus. How much time should I allow between leaving Koh Rong Island by ferry and then the bus, so I can plan my return to France? Or is a taxi an option? Thanks for your tips!

Nous serons au Cambodge en avril prochain. Nous voudrions aller de Phnom Penh à Battambang, en visitant sur le trajet le village flottant de Kompong Luong. Est-ce faisable dans la journée ? Hello, We’re a family of four with two teens aged 16 and 18. We’re heading to Thailand this summer. We’ll arrive in Bangkok and plan to take a flight to Luang Prabang. I’ve seen there are some great visits and excursions to do (temples, markets, waterfalls) and maybe even venture a bit north to places like Nong Khiaw, Muang Xay, Muang Ngoy, or Oudom Xay. But I’ve also heard about the Bokeo region with the Gibbon Experience. Since we won’t be able to do everything, I’d love to hear about your experiences, impressions, and advice on the two options I’m considering, especially since we’ll be meeting family in Chiang Mai, Thailand, afterward.

Option 1: A loop from Luang Prabang heading slightly north, then a flight from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai.

Option 2: A few days in Luang Prabang, exploring within a few dozen kilometers around, then heading to Bokeo province for the 2-day/1-night Gibbon Experience. For this option, I saw on Rome2Rio that it’s possible to book a ferry trip on the Mekong from Luang Prabang to Huay Xay—they mention about 8 hours. But is that realistic? What type of boat is it? Then, to get to Chiang Mai, there aren’t many options—bus or minivan—but how does crossing the border work?

Finally, for those of you who’ve been to Laos in August, what was the weather like? We’ve already visited Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia during the same period over the past four years and weren’t really bothered by bad weather.

Hello, I’m starting to plan my adventure in Cambodia. I’ve read a lot of your posts and really appreciate all your articles. Now it’s my turn to share my plans with you: 12/01 arrival in PP 13/01 arrival in SR where I’ll meet up with 2 friends for 6 days exploring the temples and surrounding areas 19/01 I’ll leave and finish the trip solo. I fly back on 29/01 at 8 PM, so I’ve got 10 days for a little immersion. The dilemma is whether to: # head to Battambang, then make my way to PP, Kampot, and 2 nights by the sea # go to Kratie and head down to Kampot with 2 nights by the sea (or, to cut down on kilometers, go via Kampong Cham to Kampot). Option 2 is my preference. I’m almost 70 and not too keen on rushing 😅 Thanks in advance for your time and any helpful tips! Françoise

1/ the new airport Does anyone have info on the average tuk-tuk fare? From the old one, we’d usually pay between $7 and $10. Are we looking at the same range? It seems a bit farther, so maybe a little pricier. If you’ve got a rough idea of the time (always better to budget extra), I’m guessing around an hour?

2/ access to Preah Vihear temple I haven’t been back in a few years, but I was thinking of revisiting it this year. Given the border troubles, is access still allowed at the moment?

It’s all in the title. I’m starting to think about my destination for summer 2026, and Cambodia is currently at the top of my list. Among the spots frequently mentioned for a 2- or 3-week trip to Cambodia, Battambang comes up often. However, so far, I haven’t found any truly remarkable features that would justify spending 2 or 3 days (including travel and visits) in this city during a 3-week stay, especially since I’m primarily looking for stunning photography spots—whether natural landscapes, urban scenes, or architecture. Where can I find some enlightening documentation on Battambang to help shift my perspective? Sorry for exposing my ignorance about this city like this, but all the photos I’ve seen online and the travel journals I’ve read don’t really showcase what makes it appealing, even though the descriptions suggest it’s very charming.

Hi there, We’re heading to Cambodia for 15 days in February 2026. We’ll spend 3 nights in Siem Reap for the Angkor temples, then check out the floating markets. I’d love to know if Battambang is worth the detour. If so, we’re thinking of taking a ferry across the lake, staying one night, and then flying to the islands for the second week. Which islands would you recommend—Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem—or is there another that’s better for relaxation, downtime, and snorkeling? Thanks for your tips!

Nous serons au Laos de mi-juillet à mi-août. Nous avons l'habitude de louer une voiture et de conduire à l'étranger (Indonésie, Bali, Thaïlande, Namibie, Botswana, Mexique, Guatemala...) mais pour ce voyage-ci, nous ne trouvons que très peu d'informations sur la conduite au Laos (mis à part que c'est dangereux et qu'un chauffeur c'est mieux ;O). Nous souhaiterions savoir à quoi ressemble l'itinéraire Luang Prabang-Pakse en voiture : état des routes, type de routes, endroit où dormir sur le trajet, possibilité de faire le plein d'essence et surtout y a-t-il un intérêt à le faire (vie villageoise, paysages...).
