Hesitating between Crete or Menorca
Hi! We’d like to go away for 10 days around May 15th, either to Menorca or Crete—we don’t know either place. We love hiking, unspoiled nature, good food, swimming, and, if possible, avoiding crowds. We enjoy getting off the beaten track. Menorca seems ideal because it’s not far by plane from Lyon, but if Crete is really wilder and more beautiful in terms of landscapes, we can add an extra hour of flight time. Can you help us out? Thanks!

Choosing between Dubrovnik and Zadar
Hi everyone! 🙂 We’re planning a one-week trip to Croatia but can’t decide between Zadar and Dubrovnik, especially since we’ll be using public transport or trains to explore the surrounding areas. What are some relaxed, easy things to do around these cities? We don’t want to rush. Of course, we’re really drawn to Plitvice and its park, but Dubrovnik looks so beautiful... For those of you who know these destinations well, could you help us decide, please? Thanks so much!

Looking for ferry connection between Amorgos and Folegandros
Hi there, I’ve searched the forum and even the ferry company websites, but I can’t seem to find any ferry route between Amorgos and Folegandros for September (2 people, no car). Does anyone know if this route exists? Could it be too early and the schedules just aren’t posted yet? Thanks for your help! Joëlle

Choosing between a guided tour of the Acropolis or Delphi
Hello, We’re heading to Greece in April. We’ll only be in Athens for 2 days (we’re not big fans of big cities) and then doing a road trip to Delphi and the Peloponnese. We wanted to do a guided tour with a guide because our kids are really into ancient Greece. Initially, we were thinking of a guided tour of the Acropolis, but it seems complicated since the only day that works for us is Easter Monday. After some thought, we’re wondering if maybe a guided tour of Delphi would be better? Because the Acropolis already has lots of explanatory panels and is very well-documented, whereas Delphi might not be as much. Also, the only guided tours we found for the Acropolis are at 11:00–11:30 AM, which is exactly when it’s packed, and we try to avoid crowds (we were planning to visit the Acropolis as early as 9:00 AM). What do you think? Thanks in advance! Have a great day

Which stops to make between Dubrovnik and Split?
Hi everyone!

I’m heading to Croatia for the second time (first time was 5 days in Dubrovnik), but this time I’ll be seeing more of the country since I’m renting a car to drive between Dubrovnik and Split. I’ve got 2 days and 2 nights for the trip, and I was wondering which stops I could make. I’m looking for quiet, typical villages or spots where I can swim peacefully—just a nice break between the two touristy cities. 😊

Thanks in advance for your help!

Layover time in Rhodes between two ferries
Hi there,

I'm trying to plan a little Greek getaway in early summer, and it's a tad complicated—connections from Sitia to Rhodes via Karpathos are only twice a week (and not on the days that work for me!). I gave up on the idea of Kastelorizo, which isn’t that easy to reach either, and replaced it with Symi, which has a daily connection—even several—to Rhodes, where I’d like to spend as little time as possible. I found a boat leaving Symi at 8:15 AM and arriving in Rhodes at 9:35 AM. The ferry to Karpathos leaves the same day at 11:00 AM. That’s 1 hour and 25 minutes to switch boats. It’s tempting because it’s a perfect sequence, but I’m wondering if it’s still a bit too tight.

Do Sebeco Lines’ speedboats arrive at the same port where Blue Star ferries depart? Are they punctual?

Ferry in the Cyclades: which company to choose between Mykonos and Naxos?
Hi there,

I’m heading to the Cyclades at the end of May and looking into inter-island ferries. I’m a bit confused because, for example, to go from Mykonos to Naxos, there are 3 ferries leaving at the same time for the same price. So I’m wondering if there are any companies to prioritize (or, on the contrary, to avoid). Thanks in advance for your feedback! 😉

Crowds in Crete mid-August to early September
Hi everyone, We’re thinking of spending 3 weeks in Crete between mid-August and early September, renting a car, quickly exploring a few spots in the east, and focusing on the west, southwest, and south. I’m worried about the heavy tourist crowds. Is it really more noticeable than elsewhere in Greece? Is there a way to avoid the crowds without missing out on the iconic places, which I imagine are stunning in Crete? Thanks for your thoughts and experiences!

Local recommendations for discovering Prague and the Czech Republic
-Hi everyone, my brother and I will be traveling between May and June to explore Prague and the Czech Republic in general. -We're looking for locals to help us out—what to do, what not to do, where to go, what to visit, and group outings. -Basically, we need some guidance. Unfortunately, we don’t speak the local language or English well (or at all), so if you speak French, you’re very welcome to help!

The Blue Eye Site (Albania): How to Turn Nature into an Amusement Park
I was expecting the worst when I went to discover the Blue Eye site between Gjirokastër and Ksamil—I definitely got my money’s worth...

What a terrible idea to turn a stunning natural wonder into a concrete cash machine!

Okay, so they built a parking lot and made it paid—that’s fine. And protecting the natural spring with a wooden barrier to keep it from turning into a public swimming pool makes sense.

But why dig a road all the way up to 10 meters from the site with an excavator?

Why allow a super polluting and stinky little train to run there?

Why let personal motorcycles use it?

Why rent electric scooters or mini motorbikes to cover the 1,500 meters on foot?

I have my answer: greed...

Thankfully, there’s still a trail on the other side that’s been spared from the money grab.

Access and Accommodation in Minsk
Hi there,

We’re two forty-something friends spending two weeks in the Baltic countries. Between Lithuania and Estonia, we’d love to swing by Minsk.

From what I’ve read on this forum and other sites, I think I’ve got it right: from Vilnius, by bus, you need an up-to-date passport, travel insurance, and Belarusian rubles.

A couple more questions—what about euros if we’re carrying a few hundred?

And which sites are reliable for finding accommodation or a hotel for 3–4 days in Minsk? With the usual sites (Airbnb and Booking, for example) being blocked, the alternatives seem to be less familiar or pricier (like hotels.com). There are other sites, but it’s never easy to know how trustworthy they are. What should we look for in Minsk if we’re used to Airbnb or Booking?

One last question—has anyone here tried crossing via Daugavpils?

Thanks a bunch!

Serifos: Livadakia or Faros for accommodation and fun activities?
Hi there, I’m planning to wrap up my 3 weeks in Greece with 4 nights on Serifos before a final night in Athens. I’m torn between staying in Faros or near the port in Livadakia... or somewhere else! I’m looking for an authentic spot with a nice beach nearby but still with little restaurants, shops, etc. Something where my daughters and I can enjoy pleasant evenings with a bit of life around us! Any advice—or even a place to stay—that won’t break the bank, obviously! Thanks

Tips for a 20-day Montenegro and Croatia itinerary
hello I’m looking for advice for a last-minute trip—about 3 weeks (half Montenegro, half Croatia). I’m traveling solo, backpacker style (low budget, hostels). I’m 40 and love exploring cool spots—cities, beaches, mountains, sports activities, you name it.

I’m torn between renting a car or just going with the flow using buses once I’m there. A car would definitely be more convenient, but it might be pricier—plus, parking (is it paid?) and having to return it to the same place. My plan is to start in Montenegro (flying into Podgorica or Albania) and finish in Croatia, so I’d either need to do short-term rentals per country or one-way.

In Montenegro, here are the spots I’ve noted: - Ulcinj and Velika Plaža beach - A side trip to Lake Skadar and Virpazar - Budva, Sveti Stefan, and Petrovac - Cetinje and Lovćen National Park - Kotor / Perast - Žabljak and Durmitor National Park + rafting in the Tara Canyon Is 8–10 days enough?

And in Croatia, I’ve got: - Dubrovnik - Korčula - Hvar - Split + Trogir and Krka National Park - Zadar - Plitvice Lakes National Park - Croatian Istria / Rovinj / Pula - Zagreb Around 10–12 days.

Any tips on the stops (adding or cutting some from my list) or transportation options?

Thanks in advance!

Santorini in October
Hi there,

My wife and I are heading to Santorini from October 11th to 18th (it’s her birthday gift). I’ll admit I’m torn between spending the full 7 days on Santorini or combining it with another island (I was thinking Milos) for 2 or 3 days. Since the ferry schedules aren’t announced yet for October, it’s hard to plan ahead.

Do you think 7 days on Santorini is too much, or is splitting 7 days between 2 islands too short? Any other destinations worth considering?

Thanks in advance

Which destination for New Year's Eve accessible by car: Prague or Zurich?
Hi everyone!

We’re heading to Alsace as a couple right after Christmas for 4 days. After that, we’d like to continue east by car to spend New Year’s Eve there.

We’re torn between Prague and Zurich. Which one would you recommend? In terms of driving convenience (distance isn’t an issue for us), things to see, and overall vibe. I’ve read, for example, that Czechs aren’t very welcoming, and it’s really important for us to have a good connection with the locals. On the other hand, I’m worried Zurich might be less interesting to visit...

Maybe you have other city suggestions?

Thanks so much for your help!

Prague in June: Packing and Sightseeing Tips
Hello, We’re heading to Prague with so much excitement from June 10th to 20th. I’ve got three main questions for those who live there or have visited: - What are your thoughts on what to pack clothing-wise? What’s the weather usually like at this time of year? We’re a bit sensitive to the cold—we live way down in southern Andalusia and are used to the *calor* 😎... Should we pack rain gear? Are we likely to get a lot of rain (which we’re dreading a little, but we couldn’t choose other dates)? - I’ve seen there are "passes" for various attractions, museums, and sites, including one that’s valid for 10 days but costs a whopping 160 € per person—that’s an average of 16 € per day. Do you think it’s really worth it? We won’t be spending our days rushing between every indoor site; we also love wandering the streets and discovering things a bit "at random." If we do two paid visits a day, that’ll probably be the max... Can we make it worth the cost with that? Of course, we want to visit the castle and take a boat trip as a minimum. Are the sites included in these passes iconic, or are they more "minor" attractions? Does having the pass help us skip long lines? - Finally, a question about communication: I speak French, obviously, plus Spanish and English fluently, but very little German (haven’t practiced in ages), and no Russian or Czech at all. My husband knows a few words of Russian, but it’s "Cuban" Russian—about the same level as my current German 🙂 !! Can we still get by without too much trouble? We don’t want to spend 10 days not saying a word to anyone and communicating only with gestures!! Thanks for your valuable tips and opinions.

Questions about visits and accommodation in Pelion / Chalkidiki
Hi there,

I’m heading to Pelion with my partner and then to Chalkidiki around mid-September (from September 12th to 26th). I arrive in Thessaloniki on Saturday evening and plan to spend a day there to check out the market (though it’s marked as temporarily closed on Google??) and, most importantly, enjoy the local food scene.

After that, I’ll head toward Meteora (Sunday evening/Monday), spend a week in Pelion, and then head up to Nikiti to finish the trip (5 days in Vourvourou) and explore the beaches of Sithonia. We’ll also make a trip to Afytos since I think it’s worth the detour.

About Pelion, I’m really not sure where to stay because the distances between Volos and Afissos aren’t straightforward.

I’m looking for a quiet spot but with a little evening activity—like strolling through a village or by the sea. I’ve seen a few suggestions via ChatGPT, but I’m not convinced about the vibe (Milies, Makrinitsa).

Volos is big… but kind of ugly.

We love hiking, spending time in picturesque/typical villages, and, like everyone else, tasting local specialties. As for balancing the trip, I’m open to changes or adjustments if you’ve got any tips—I’d love to hear them, along with any other ideas.

Which base(s) to choose in Cyprus?
Hello

It’s decided—next summer, it’s Cyprus! A region we don’t know yet, with nature, culture, beach time, and diving the Zenobia 😎 We’re thinking of a 2-week trip.

After flipping through the LP guide, I’m still unsure about the best bases—I can’t quite picture the distances...

Option 1: Stay near Larnaca for 1 week and Paphos for the other. But from Larnaca, Cape Greco is doable. Wouldn’t it be better to stay near Cape Greco (Protaras?) instead? What about getting to Lefkara? Same from Paphos—easy to explore as far as Kourion.

Option 2: A single, more central base somewhere between Limassol and Larnaca.

Thanks for your tips and great deals 😉

What choices to make for 2 weeks in March in Athens and the Cyclades?
We’ve only been to Crete in Greece before, so this trip is new to us—but planning the itinerary isn’t easy because we have to make choices. We’d love to hear from those in the know about the following plan: Day 1: flight to Athens, then flight to Milos 3 days in Milos, 4 days in Sifnos, 3 days in Paros, Final 3 days in Athens. Should we book ferry tickets between the islands in March in advance, or can we wait until the last minute? Same question for accommodations on these different islands. Finally, on the 3 islands we’ve chosen, is renting a car essential, or are the buses enough? Thanks for your help!
