Je poste une nouvelle discussion après en avoir lu un bon nombre, mais comme chaque voyage
est différent je préfère bien cibler ma demande.
Je voudrais connaître vos avis sur plusieurs sujets.
Je vous explique donc notre projet.
Nous sommes deux potes de 26 et 29 ans. Nous sommes diplômés en Juin (nous seront donc infirmiers 😎 )
et nous partons tout le mois de juillet pour le Cambodge et le Laos. Nous atterrissons cependant à Bangkok
pour des raisons économiques et pratiques. Nous pensons rejoindre au plus vite le Cambodge, mais rester au moins
deux jours à Bangkok avant de redécoller.
Notre intention est d'acheter deux motos (probablement des 125cm2 ou moins genre 110) pour pouvoir visiter les Cambodge à notre rythme et pouvoir remonter le Laos pour les revendre au nord du Laos puis redescendre en transport
traditionnels jusque Bangkok pour le retour.
Si je poste donc ici c'est déjà pour avoir votre ressenti sur le projet?
Pour ma part j'ai déjà voyagé en Thailande et en Inde. Sac à dos, transports en communs petit "hotels" etc.. ça va je connais un peu. Pour mon binôme c'est le grand saut dans l'inconnu qu'est le monde du voyage.. 😉
Donc comme je disais, connaître votre ressenti et vos conseils. Quel itinéraire nous conseillez vous?
Quelles motos sont les mieux adaptées? 125cm2? Plus?? Et au niveau des budget pour l'achat des motos à quoi devons nous nous attendre?
Nous sommes assez téméraires et plutôt débrouillard. Enfin on s'adapte dirons nous. Le confort on l'a tout au long de l'année alors pas de chichi 😏
Nous nous sommes déjà procuré des cartes routières du Cambodge et du Laos. Elle sont plutôt détaillées, c'est pas de l'IGN bien sur mais j'ai du les faire importer d'allemagne pour pouvoir avoir cette qualité. Donc c'est plus que correct. Ca reprend les axes principaux, et ce qui s'apparente au route nationale et autres grandes voies. Les villes et meme petites villes y sont référencées. Donc en principe ça devrait aller.
La ou nous avons besoin de vous c'est déjà pour ce qui pour vous ressemble à un itinéraire idéal dans la combinaison de ces deux pays (en disposant d'un mois) et aussi les pièges à éviter, les erreurs à ne surtout pas faire, les conseils pratiques pour les motos, frontières, achat et vente de deux roues, outils indispensable, etc etc..
C'est toujours sympas de partir à l'aventure dans l'inconnu mais bon nos réflexes d'occidentaux nous poussent tout de même à consulter les différentes expériences que vous avez pu vivre pour pouvoir profiter des meilleures choses et ne pas passer bêtement à côté de quelque chose d'important : lieux, administratif, et autres.

Acheter des motos où ? A Bangkok ? Au Cambodge ? Ca fait des années que je taille la route avec des Honda 125, c'est impec ! Ca passe partout et surtout tout le monde sait comment les réparer même dans de petits villages au bord des routes ou pistes. Les 110 sont trop juste pour les cols du Laos.
Ces cartes allemnades sont excellentes ; les routes sont bonnes, donc pas de difficukltés majeures (à part qu'au cambodge, la grande route Siem Reap-Kompng Thom-Pnomh Penh est en réfection donc c'est un enfer de poussières ; apporter un bon masque.
Deux jours à Bangkok + 1 jour pour aller au Cambodge + le temps d'acheter une moto + le temps de revendre la moto + le temps de revenir sur Bangkok (2 j ?), il ne vous restera plus beaucoup de temps pour votre périple motocycliste. C'est un programme très (trop ?) ambitieux mais tout est toujours possible. Tout dépend si vous voulez passer votre temps sur la moto ou profiter un peu des diverses étapes (comptez 50 km/h de moyenne, pas plus). Pour vous dire ça, je me base sur mon trip récent au Laos avec une 250 Honda (trail) louée depuis la France à Vientiane. En 25 jours de moto j'ai visité le nord et un peu le centre du pays (à mon rythme, comme vous voulez le faire). De plus, il se peut que la météo soit moins sèche en juillet qu'en février et sachant que beaucoup de routes sont des pistes ....... (si on veut sortir des sentiers battus). Je ne veux pas vous dissuader mais prenez bien tout en compte pour que votre projet soit une réussite.
Bonne préparation et bon voyage. La moto me semble vraiment le moyen de locomotion idéal pour ce genre de pays. C'est celui des locaux.

Tu y sera donc en pleine saison des pluies, avec toutes les pistes vraisemblablement imbibees. aussi bien au cambodge qu au laos, des que tu vas sortir des axes principaux, tu vas rencontrer au mieux des bouts de beton/bitumes au milieu de la boue ou de la pure piste boueuse. j ai rate ce que je voulais faire en juillet 2013 a cause de ça:les pistes autour de Kampot (sud du cambodge) etaient IMPRATICABLES (meme les locaux jetaient l eponge a force de se vautrer lamentablement dans la gadoue). je voulais aller dans le coin des plantations de poivre, j ai du me cantoner a la route bitumee sur l axe phnom pehn-sihanoukville.
Comme ca a deja ete dit, meme si tu as bcp de chance avec la meteo, faire «le tour» d un seul pays sera deja une reussite (et de preference le cambodge, bcp moins etendu)
Ca t evitera aussi les galeres/embrouilles/backshish previsibles de passage de la frontiere avec un vehicule, et ca te simplifiera sans doute la tache pour la revente
Que tu choisisses le laos ou le cambodge, avoir des cartes papier de secours est une bonne chose, mais tu pourrais aussi profiter des reseaux de tel mobile qui arrosent en 3G bien mieux qu en france (reseau plus recent) et qui permettent d accéder a googlemaps, aux images satellites, le tout bien plus a jour que n importe carte papier, avec la possibilite de zoomer et d avoir des détails inaccessibles sur une carte papier. De memoire, j avais paye 7euros ma carte sim avec une recharge data mobile consequente valable un mois (4Go de data je crois). le tout glisse dans mon smartphone, je n ai jamais pris la couverture reseau en defaut. Ceci dit, le temps etait tellement pourri que je ne me suis pas bcp eloigne des axes principaux
A plusieurs reprises, les cartes papiers indiquaient des routes qui n existaient plus alors que googlemaps ou la vue satellite montraient jusqu aux petits chemins a peine assez larges pour laisser passer un 4x4, ca montrait aussi les ponts recemment construits, ca nous a par exemple indique un itineraire insoupsonnable sur la carte ou le pont n apparaissait pas
J'ai bien lu vos messages. En effet, jusque maintenant j'avais que ce soit en Inde ou en Thailande toujours voyagé en Avril, a part 1 ou 2 averses de 1 heure, rien a signaler niveau météo.
La ca sera juillet, donc bien plus humide.
Du coup vous nous conseillez quoi? Louer les motos??? mais c'est pas risqué si on abime une moto? (une chute est toujours possible) au retour si on nous demande de payer les éventuelles réparations ça peut monter assez haut en étant touristes en plus... : /
On s'est dit que si on acheté des 125 cm², au moins elles seraient à nous, en cas de casse, de vol ou autre au moins pas de conséquence.. Et puis on s'est aussi dit que si on n'arrivions pas a les revendre, au pire ca serait de la perte sèche, mais pas trop grave encore.
Au niveau du projet en lui même, comme je vous le disais, nous avons des billets allé retour paris bangkok, nous comptons aller au moins au cambodge, après si on peut passer au laos ça serait parfait mais si pour des raisons liées aux temps (météo) ou au temps (grennwitchien ; ) on peut pas, et bien on prendra ce qu'on peut prendre.
Concernant les routes, si en effet, c'est sans arrêt avec 30 cm de boue et qu'on lutte pour faire 3km alors c'est peut être pas le bon plan.

les pluies tropicales sont loin de ce que l on voit sous les climats temperes. en guadeloupe ou je vis actuellement, en avril 2013 (statistiquement saison seche), nous avons eu en 3 semaines 1600mm de pluie, soit grosso modo ce qu il tombe a lille en 2 ans, c etait plus du genre «tous les jours toute la journée sans arrêter une minute« et ce n etait que la saison «seche»!

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?

Next October we’re planning to ride the Ruta de la Plata by motorcycle—a historic Spanish route that runs from Gijón to Seville, also known as the N630.
Has anyone here already ridden it?
Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.
