Yes, at the entrance to the market (the containers), you’ll find a shop that sells SIM cards. Be careful—there’s no ATM in this town. You can exchange money at a bank, but only with dollars; euros aren’t accepted. If you’re arriving from Kyrgyzstan, sometimes you can exchange money with travelers leaving Tajikistan, either at the border or at Kizyl-Art, a meet-up spot for tourists arranged by local agencies from both neighboring countries. Another option is to exchange money at a guest house if you’re staying at one. Info from our trip in August 2024. The best solution is to use dollars as your exchange currency.

Thanks so much for this valuable info—it’s a huge help!!! :) ... One more question, please: at this shop, do they help you install the SIM card in your phone and handle all the setup? PS: We don’t speak Russian! 🤪 🤪🤪

In the Stan countries, they can do everything— I’ve even seen a kid set up a SIM card for travelers. In 2024, the shop staff spoke English. What mode of transport are you using? Which country will you be arriving from? You’ll find info on our site under the "Stans 2019" and "Stand 2024" sections. You can download the travel journals— there’s a link at the bottom of the page. Watch out for altitude sickness (AMS) in these high-altitude regions.

Just so you know, phone coverage in Tajikistan is very spotty.

Enjoy these stunning regions!

Thanks!!🙂 We’ll be arriving from KG, where we’re renting a 4x4. Last year, we were already in KG with the same 4x4 and then continued to Uzbekistan using public transport. This year, we want to explore the western and southwestern parts of KG (which we didn’t do last year) and make a loop through TJ. Thanks for the tips about the MAM—we’re aware of it! Thanks for the link to your site... we’ll check out/read about your travels! 😉😉
