Bonjour, mon mari s'est trouvé un emploi à Ryadh et je vais aller le rejoindre plus tard. Avant mon arrivée il doit trouver un petit compound très basic, pas trop cher (on veut économiser de l'argent et ne pas tout dépenser dans le logement). J'aimerais avoir vos conseils sur lequel choisir. J'aimerais en trouver un ou vivent beaucoup de français (et québécois s'il y en a quelques s'uns). Nous venons de montréal.
Y a-til des associations de français, des activités sociales, etc...? J'aimerais vraiment me faire des amis françaises. Est-ce que les européens et nord-américains sont tous dans les compounds de luxe super cher avec des cafés, supermarché, gym, etc...? On a déjà des amis magrébins qui vivent dans un compound, mais il paraît qu'il n'y a que des libanais. J'ai peur d'être un peu exclue ou de m'y ennuyer, parce qu'on est un peu différent au niveau mentalité, et peut-être qu'ils préfèrent être entre eux. Normalement quand je voyage je vis en immersion totale dans la population locale, et j'ai une bonne expérience des pays arabes et musulmans, mais là c'est pas seulement un voyage, c'est pour y vivre plusieurs années, donc c'est différent. Il n'est pas question de nous installer là et de repartir après quelques mois parce que je m'ennuie. C'est un projet sérieux et je veux que les conditions maximuns soient réunies pour que ça soit une expérience agréable.
à Riyadh, il y a le Consulat Français, donc .. avec un "Centre Consulaire" 😉
endroit où au travers des activités culturelles proposées, tu pourras faire des rencontres 😛
tache de vivre en "compound", sinon ce sera en appartement ... 😇
et tu auras le problème des déplacements privés à gérer 😇
tu ne pourras pas conduire, ton mari aura autre chose à faire que d'être ton chauffeur 😛
comme je comprends que sa position ne lui accorde pas la facilité d'être logé
donc, il ne doit pas non plus avoir celle d'un "chauffeur famille" 😕
... tant pis si dans ton compound, tu n'y retrouves que des Libanais ... et Libanaises 😇
avec qqs concessions de ta part, peut-être auras tu la chance de pouvoir partager leurs chauffeurs ... 😉

les compounds soit;
- qu'ils soient multi sociétés, sont bien équipés, mais assez chers en location,
- ou bien c'est la société qui loue elle même un compound pour leurs collaborateurs
j'ai eu la chance (ainsi que ma famille) au cours de mes 2 séjours en Saudi de bénéficier à chaque fois de cette facilité 😛
c'est certain que "nous" avons apprécié cette facilité ... courage et pense aux économies 😉

Si l'entreprise organisait tout pour vous, j'imagine que vous étiez des expatriés envoyés par une compagnie étrangère? Mon mari ne sera pas un expatrié à proprement parlé, mais plutôt un travailleur étranger embauché par une entreprise saoudienne. Il est arabaphone de langue maternelle et a un contact sur place, ce qui est différent de vous européens, j'imagine. Donc, il nous faut un peu plus de débrouillardise.

je suis dans la même situation que vous, mon mari s'est fait recruter par un patron libanais, dans une entreprise plutôt familliale tout les employés sont libanais, egyptiens ou asiatique, nous sommes les seuls français mais arabophone donc il n'a pas jugé necessaire de nous loger dans un compound. donc je vis en appart comme vous avez dis nous sommes ici pour mettre de l'argent de côté et ne pas gaspiller en logement. D'autant plus qu'a Riyadh les coumpounds sont trés trés cher beaucoup plus qu'à Jeddah. En fait j'ai vecu en compound à jeddah au debut, mais le probléme des camps pas cher c 'est trés rudimentaire , la maison était en pré-fabriqué et à part une piscine il n'y avait rien d'autre on s'ennuyait trés vite, la majorité qui habitait avec nous étaient des libanais, egyptiens et quelques pakistanais, mais il n'y avait pas de contact avec les gens, ils semblaient avoir deja leur "amis" donc je me suis trés vite ennuyé même si j'avais fait connaissance avec ma voisine pakistanaise, je ne pouvais pas sortir seule du camp. j'avais l'impression d'être en prison. Quand j'ai demenagé en ville en appart c'était different je sortais seule, sincéremet je me sentais mieux.
Ensuite nous avons demenagé a riaydh et j'habite en appart dans un endroit propre et chic, mais j'avoue que je ne sort pas encore seul trés loin, je ne me sens pas trés à l'aise , en tout cas beaucoup moins qu'à jeddah, ici j'ai l'impression que c'est beaucoup plus conservateur que jeddah. Cependant à Riyadh il y a plus de chose à faire, en matiére d'occupation comme des centres reservé aux femmes, pour faire du sport, prendre un café, se faire belle, mais le mieux est d'avoir quelqu'un avec qui sortir parce que sinon il faut attendre que l'on vous y accompage et qu'on vienne vous chercher, ce qui est mon probléme!!

After living for many years in the West (Belgium, Italy, Switzerland),
I’ve decided to return and settle in Cameroon, my home country.
Currently an entrepreneur in real estate and transport, I’m looking for a partner / partners / foundation to collaborate on an agriculture project, as I own 10 hectares of land.
