Je viens de surfer sur le site et je voulais savoir quels étaient les avantages et les inconvénients pour le bts tourisme en vente et production touristique car beaucoup disent que ce n'est plus aussi bien qu'avant et que pour voyager, le mieux est de faire un bts hotellerie-restauration. Que faire ?😕

effectivement avec un bts tourisme tu risques de te retrouver dans une agence a gerer la vente de billets d'avion...a paris.
avec l'hotellerie tu peux voyager...mais faut etre courgeux.

et ben lmoi je suis en bts vpt a lyon et c'est bien et costaud mais donc oublie l'idee de voyager, tu feras voyager d'autres!! et c'est bien dur!! un des 5 BTS les plus durs de la France!
BTS Hôtellerie et restauration pour quelqu'un qui aime voyager, c'est le top ..... même si il est vrai que celà demande beaucoup de courage, car le travail demandé en hôtellerie n'a rien à voir avec les 35 heures de tout le monde, mais si on est jeune et ambitieux, celà peut s'avérer payant de s'affilier avec une des grandes chaînes hôtelières, comme Accor par exemple, et d'accepter des postes dans des hôtels au bout du monde ..... en quelques années, et si l'on est compétent, on peut rapidement se retrouver directeur d'hôtel .....
Tout simplement aussi, celà peut permettre de trouver du travail toute l'année et autour du monde à peu prés n'importe ou, tant est que la main d'oeuvre française dans ce domaine est trés appréciée .....

Je m'étais basée sur le BTS Tourisme VPT mais maintenant je ne sais plus quoi faire. Je suis actuellement en Terminale L et j'aimerai me diriger vers des études supérieures, mais sincèrement, je suis totalement perdue, j'aimerai éventuellement aller vers un milieu qui touche les langues pour faire un métier qui bouge assez, alors où aller ?? Que faire ????

possédant un bts hotellerie 2 options possibles :
1ere option gestion et mercatique hoteliere ( gestion eco droit maths hebergement etc..donc + ciblée sur l'hebergement (relation clt pr resumer)
2eme option art culinaire et de la table ( c'est resumé...) in conveneint pr avoir des mais travaillant en cuisine au bout d'1 an c lassant et pr evoluer tu comptes pas tes heures et horaires de coupure... (le pire que j'ai pu faire
deroulement tu dois faire une année de remise a niveau (ca reveintde faire 1an en 3 an pr en fait se retrouver avec ceux du lycée technologique hotelier )
puis 1ere année tu fais tout
2eme année choix d'option + stage de 4 mois pr les man + 4 autres mois en 2eme année (restauration d'autoroutes ou paris chez les traiteurs de luxe ou hotels de luxe plus reserve a ceux qui etudient sur paris ou etudient a lausanne
venons en au fait tu trouves du travail ds les hotels tres rapidement, maitrise de l'anglais imperative espagnol apprécié
hotel qu'il faut mieux ciblé 3 etoiles et +
2 etoiles pr moi bof bof tu fais de la polyvalence a mort pr un petit salaire de meme que ds un 3 etoiles apres depend ou tu travailles
de part mes connaissances bts tourisme sympa bc p de geographie et un semblant de programme d'hotellerie, possibilite de psote ds les gances qui maintenant font aussi de l'immobilier..
remarque sur mon experience: bcp de bts tourisme se dirige vers nos postes, voire ds certains cas prennent les postes a responsabilites
danger de l'hotellerie se cantonner a porter des assiettes ou bien a rester derriere un pc pr faire des resas (c bon pr qq tps ...)
inconvenients hoteliers: salaires bas au debut leger au dessus du smic, horaires qu'il faut supporter
avantages: possibilites de relation clientele super sympa si tu enleves les touristes qui restent pr 1 nuit

je sais que ton message date de quelques temps et je ne sais pas si depuis tu as trouve une solution!!
cela dit je me sens un peu obligee de venir defendre mon bts tourisme!!!!!!je viens tout juste d en sortir et j en suis fiere!d autant que je l ai fait en alternance!
le bts tourisme n est pas si difficile que ca!il faut aimer la geo certes mais quand tu aimes voyager tu aimes certainement ca!et puis il y a aussi d autres matieres tres interressantes comme le marketing et les langues (bien que pour les langues je trouve que c est un peu leger!!!) si tu bosses c est bon tu peux l avoir!
pour les debouches.....ok j avoue beaucoup en agence de voyage mais c est parce que c est les debuts!si tu es bilingue, que tu as de l experience (d ou l utilite de l alternance) et que tu as des connaissances (acquises lors de tes voyages, d ou l utilite de partir un an a l etranger apres le bts) tu peux pretendre a beaucoup mieux, mais le passage en ventes est obligatoire (agence de voyages, call center ou gros TO) mais finalement interressant!
alors il est vrai que dans les metiers du tourisme tu envoie plus de gens en voyage que tu ne pars mais..........il ne faut pas oublier que tu as beaucoup de reducs qui te permettent de voyager pas chers pendant tes jours de conges et aussi tu as de nombreux eductours organises qui te font voyage gratuitement!!!!
Pour le BTS hotellerie j y connais pas grand chose!certes tu voyages peut etre beaucoup mais toutes les personnes que je connais qui ont fait ca m ont dit que c etait tres tres tres difficile (horaires, travail physique et en plus mal payer!!!!!) donc je crois qu il faut etre vraiment tres motive!
De plus, certes les metiers du tourisme te feront pas beaucoup voyager mais sache qu aucun metier ne le fais vraiment ou alors les places sont deja prises et difficile à trouver!
et pour finir j avoue le tourisme c est bien mais tres tres tres mal payer!!!!donc si tu le fais c est par passion uniquement car beaucoup de jeunes, apres une petite experience, prefere faire autre chose quand ils se rendent comptent combien ils vont gagner toute leur vie!!!
voila j espere t avoir un peu aider!n hesite pas a m en demander plus si besoin et surtout je suis curieuse aussi donc tiens moi au courant de ce que tu decides de faire finalement!!!

En fait, je me suis basée sur l'idée que si je ne choisis pas le bts tourisme, je vais me perdre ( pourquoi cette idée, je n'en sais rien ) .
Merci nadège pour ton message qui m'a ouvert les yeux, c'est aussi ce que je voulais lire, je l'avoue ! Et à un moment, j'hésitais entre le bts hotellerie/restau mais je ne me voyais pas me défoncer pour une fillière qui ne m'a jamais traversé l'esprit et qui ne m'a jamais réelement "charmée", enfin je ne sais pas si vous me comprenez!
En effet, je pense faire ce BTS TOURISME la raison pour laquelle j'aime les langues, j'aime voyager... Mais sommes-nous si mal payés ? Quelle est la meilleure solution pour éviter ce problème? (enfin, éviter est un bien grand mot ) L'alternance ?
Mais un autre problème s'est ajouté, c'est que mes parents et peut-être moi vont descendre à montpellier pour y habiter mais je ne sais pas quoi faire, bref ça c'est autre chose. Mais merci à vous pour vos réponses.
Autre question : où pouvons nous effectuer un bts tourisme sur paris? parce que j'ai du mal à trouver, sur le net . . . après avoir choisi le bts tourisme, quelles sont les options que nous pouvons choisir?(comme l'alternance ou je ne sais trop quoi )

ah!!!vive le bts tourisme!!!
si on est vraiment mal payé?ouiiii!en tout cas principalement le smic!sauf en vente generalement tu as des primes selon les resultats et c est tres interressant!cela dit pour "eviter" ca (oui c est vrai c est un bien grand mot mais finalement c est pas si faux!) il faut avoir un beau cv!!principalement les langues (l anglais est le minimum et une autre langue, en plus du francais est un tres grand plus!) sachant qu en sortant du bts ton niveau ne sera pas suffisant!il faut aussi essayer d avoir de l experience notamment en vente. En agence de voyage c est pas mal car tu apprends bien l informatique et notamment un GDS ce qui est un plus sur le cv. Pour cela j ai trouve que l alternance n etait pas mal du tout, tu trouves ton premier boulot avec l aide de l ecole, tu te fais une premiere experience et avec ton diplome en poche tu as un avantage par rapport aux autres!certes c est pas facile, le boulot est pas forcement pasionnant mais c'est juste pendant 2 ans...et enfin le mieux pour avoir une paye et un boulot correct il faut des connaissances sur les pays!!de nombreux boulots demandent de connaitre super bien un pays ou encore une region touristique genre les caraibes....ils te demandent meme de connaitre les hotels!!!et pour connaitre tout ca le mieux est de voyager!!pour ca l alternance n est pas mal non plus car tu as des sous et tu peux partir pendant tes conges, alors que le bts en continu c est pas de salaire!!et pour voyager c est connu il faut des sous!moi j ai pu voyager 3 fois en 2 ans!
Pour conclure, pour pouvoir avoir une paye un peu plus importante il faut remplir ton cv!donc voyage et prend patience car meme au debut tu seras oblige de gagner le smic en travaillant en agence ou en vente!le mieux est de partir a l etranger pendant un an apres ton bts...c est ce que j essaye de faire mais je ne te cache pas que c est tres difficile!
Si tu pars a montpellier, tu pourras faire ton bts la bas mais pour l alternance ca risque d etre tres dificile car c est moins repandu que sur paris et surtout beaucoup moins d entreprise embauche et je crois que les ecoles ne t aide pas beaucoup !
si tu hesite a rester sur paris, tu peux compter sur l aternance pour avoir un salaire mais sache que ce ne sera pas suffisant si tu veux ton appart, il te faudra financieremnt de l aide....ou alors prepare toi a avoir un 2eme boulot!mais la encore il faut etre tres motivee sinon tu cours a ta perte!
Pour les bts tourisme a paris il y en a plein tout depend si tu souhaites l alternance ou pas, tout depend si tu veux du prive ou du public!Moi je l ai fait a l IFFA a evry (uniquement en alternacne) une ecole avec des plus et des moins mais un tres bon taux de reussite et beaucoup d aide pour trouver une entreprise!si tu prends privee sans alternance sache que l annee coute 30 000 francs environ !!!et certaines ecole sont pourries!ca je peux te renseigner quand tu auras fait ton choix sanx aucun soucis!
Pour les options: il existe 2 BTS Tourisme, en gros: ventes et productions pour bosser en agence ou ds les TO acceuil et gestion touristique pour bosser en sindicat d initiative, office de tourisme...

Le BTS en alternance, tu le choisis à quel moment? au moment des inscriptions de cette année? faut-il encore avoir trouver son école ! !
Pour le boulot qui n'est pas passionnant, il n'y a pas de problèmes pour ça !

un GDS est un logiciel de réservation touristique utilisé dans les agences de voyage par exemple. A l ecole tu apprendras surement "amadeus" car c est le plus utilise.
Pour l alternance je l ai choisi tres rapidement (les etudes c etait pas mon truc et je savais que 2 ans en initial je ne tiendrais pas!). Donc une fois que tu as definitivement choisi l alternance tu choisis l ecole qui le propose donc oui cette année!
Pour l ecole, moi j ai postule et fais les entretiens dans plusieurs ecoles (la plupart sur paris), tu trouveras toutes les ecoles sur internet mais par contre evite l' EFT (ecole francaise du tourisme). J ai ete prise dans plusieurs ecoles et ensuite mon choix s est porte sur celle qui m a trouve l entreprise!!!!!si tu n'as pas d entreprise pour la rentree 2006 prends l ecole qui t as le plus plu, tu auras jusqu 'a fin octobre pour trouver une entreprise.

Je vais peut-être être un peu lourde mais penses-tu que c'est mieux de faire un bts simple ou en alternance? quels sont les avantages d'un bts en alternance pendant et après en le comparant au bts normal?
non t inquiete tu n es pas lourde du tout!!!et je prefere que tu sois au courant plutot que tu regrettes!
pour la comparaison du bts en alternance et le bts en initial je ne peut pas vraiment le faire car je n ai pas tester les 2!!!
L'avantage du bts en alternance par rapport a l initial: quand tu auras ton diplome en poche tu auras deja une experience professionnelle non négligeable! tu auras un avantage pour l examen. Tu as 2 oraux a passer pour celui ci dont un oral tres professionnel et l alternance te ppermettra d etre beaucoup plus sur de toi et beaucoup plus a l aise! durant tes 2 années scolaires tu as des actions professionnelles a réaliser ( à présenter ensuite à l examen, ce qui est le 2 eme oral) et l alternance te permet de mieux choisir et de mieux travailler ces actions.
Cependant, l alternance n est pas facile! plus de vacances scolaires!!seulement 5 semaines par an et encore!resultat c est tres fatiguant!
Tu as plus de responsabilités à cause du travail et ca n est pas tous les jours facile!tu as des periodes ou tu es tres fatiguee, en plus tu as toujours les devoirs à la maison et ton entreprise t en fait voir parfois de toutes les couleurs!en tout cas il faut bien tomber!
cela dit j ai tenu le coup et toute ma classe aussi!!!disons qu en fait si tu es motivee c est bon!et puis son salaire a la fin du mois c est le pied!!!!ca m a quand meme permis de faire 3 voyages magnifiques (thailande, Egypte, rep dom)......
En conclusion le bts en alternance, c'est l ideal si tu es motivee, un minimum sérieuse et travailleuse, (d autant que ta filiere L te donnera des avantages: langues, rédaction....mais aussi des inconvenients: eco mais si tu as un bon prof c est bon!) et si tu sais ce que tu veux!et aussi si les cours ne sont pas fait pour toi!!!!moi j ai jamais regretté et je le conseillerai a tout le monde!

Pour ce qui est des vacances, ce n'est pas très grave, ce que je veux dire c'est que personne n'y échappera, pour le changement des vac, lol c'est la vie !
Après pour les problèmes en entreprise, je pense que c'est comme tout, tant que tu as des responsabilités, tu dois assumer tes actes, enfin la routine d'être en entreprise, je connais déjà un peu par les taf pdt les vac scolaires !
Ce qui est bien aussi c'est la rémunération qui me plait pour voyager, parce que je pense qu'avec bts initial, tu ne peux te permettre ces voyages, donc pour moi c'est un énorme plus ! !
Mais j'espère que ça ne me pénalisera pas de ne pas faire d'éco, à part que j'ai quelques souvenirs de classe de seconde voilà tout !

Pour les actions t inkiete l ecole t aidera et ca je t aiderai qd tu y seras sans aucun probleme, car la si je te donne des exemples ca te parlera pas!
Non tu ne sera pas penalisé pour l eco, tu vas vraiment voir les bases...mais va falloir que tu bosses un peu plus que ceux qui sortent d'ES par exemple!

Tout d'abord le BTS VPT conduit essentiellement à des emplois en agence de voyages donc tu restes toute la journée derrière ton bureau.
D'autre part ce BTS peut t'ouvrir les portes d'autres formations (bac+3).
L'idéal est l'alternance car l'expérience est beaucoup plus importante que le diplôme dans le domaine du tourisme.
Si tu veux voyager, travaille avec des entreprises telles que Disney ou Club Med, ou dans des agences réceptives ou encore gagne au loto :-)
Si tu choisis ce BTS pour voyager tu te plantes à coup sûr.
Ce BTS est assez difficile sauf si tu apprends régulièrement et que tu t'investis, il y a beaucoup de par coeur et pour bien commencer l'année un conseil : apprends les capitales de tous les pays et cultives toi!

I just discovered a great show on Arte.
It's called "7 en route": seven young European journalists travel around Europe in a fully converted bus, making reports on every city they visit. It's amazing! 🙂
Yesterday, for example, they were in Rome, Italy, and the reports included things like the world's smallest restaurant—a super romantic spot for two. There was also a report on the king of paparazzi in Italy.

My imagination never stays fallow for long. Just enough time for my inner land to rest. It gets overgrown with fresh nettles, the kind you can pick without getting stung. Then, it’s time to till the fragrant earth and let the story grow.
I hesitated over where to set this story.
Maybe the Highlands, maybe the Hebrides, maybe the Orkney Islands, maybe the Shetland Islands. All of Scotland is myth—easy to embroider.
But in the end, no. I’d almost be too afraid to bare my soul.
The story will take place at home. Simple, practical.

This morning, I was up well before dawn, feeling a bit grumpy, but nothing a bowl of coffee won’t fix. I love my bowl, and no one dares take it. It’s porcelain, edged with intertwined blue flowers. On the bottom, it says "Revol." The factory has existed long before the Revolution. It was my great-grandmother’s bowl. She drank roasted barley from it during the war, then her Leroux chicory.
Last year, a little guy dropped it. My bowl broke into three pieces. A black anger vibrated deep inside me. The little boy was so upset, on the verge of tears. How could I scold him!
I picked up the three pieces and took Little Boy in my arms. His hair smelled of the light, sweet sweat of toddlers. A gentle hug that healed—his budding sorrow and my anger—everything vanished, and time carried on.
Today, my bowl is even prettier. Man fixed it using the traditional kintsugi technique, except he didn’t use gold powder or lacquer but superglue, and he delicately painted the cracks with woad blue. And my bowl is even more beautiful now.
I’m lingering, I can tell—it’s just that a story wraps itself in life, and life can’t be told in the snap of a finger. Life is long. Like in architecture, you start with a rough sketch, called a "sous-cul" (the initial pencil drawing), then you make a tracing, which is the work itself, the one you later carefully roll up in a wooden tube.
Life is like that: you erase, you start over, you use the nub of the pencil until it’s tiny, but you keep going—dreaming, loving.

On this forum, we talk a lot about trekking in the Himalayas, but I’d love to share another side of Nepal: its spiritual, cultural, and religious atmosphere, especially in Kathmandu.
Nepal, much like Tibet and Bhutan, is deeply connected to the Himalayas—the ultimate sacred mountain range. This small country exudes a calming vibe, shaped by a strong spiritual dimension. What I loved most was the unique sensory experience you get there. Walking around temples and tantric monasteries, a distinct scent fills the air—aromatic plants used for ritual fumigation. Locals mainly burn Himalayan juniper, cedar, sandalwood, and other local essences. This fragrant smoke is a way to purify the space and reach the deities, and you’re constantly enveloped in these aromas.
Another striking aspect is the sound. As soon as you step outside, you hear bells ringing in front of temples. People ring them three times before praying to announce their presence to the deities. Nepal is also the birthplace of singing bowls and sound meditation practices. In Kathmandu, you can easily find meditation sessions or "sound baths."
The spiritual dimension is everywhere: a Hindu sadhu practicing asceticism, a lama in deep red robes with his mala, turning a prayer wheel while murmuring "Om mani padme hum." Newar Buddhism, Tantrism, and Hinduism coexist harmoniously in daily life.

I just installed the Maps.Me app on my phone. I only recently found out about this app. I’m traveling in 2 weeks and a few days, and I’m a bit stuck on how to use it.

I’m planning a 3-week trip to Japan in May with Voyage Privé. The package includes a 5 GB eSIM, but my phone isn’t new enough to support it. VP told me I could buy a SIM card when I arrive at the airport.
Sure enough, I’ve seen online that this is possible with different providers.
I only need it for checking routes, looking up addresses, train schedules, etc.—basically using Google Maps, TripAdvisor, and similar apps. No heavy downloads or major internet use. All hotels should provide free Wi-Fi for that, right?
Has anyone got any tips for me on this? What have you tried, and how much did it cost?

I wanted to share a really unpleasant experience from our last trip booked with Promoséjours and organized by FTI.
We booked an 8-day/7-night stay in Egypt, from June 8 to 15.
The flight initially scheduled was changed a week before departure to take off at 10 PM from Paris CDG.
In the end, it took off with a 1-hour delay and included an unmentioned stopover in Marsa Alam.
We landed in Hurghada at 4 AM and arrived at the hotel at 6 AM.
So, we spent our first night on the plane.
For the return trip, surprise—the flight was moved up. We left the hotel at 10:30 PM on Friday the 14th to take off at 2 AM and land at 7 AM at Paris CDG.
So, we spent our last night on the plane too.
After sending a complaint letter to Promoséjours / FTI, they replied that the first and last days can be dedicated to transport (which I already knew) and that no matter how many nights you book, you’re not guaranteed to spend them in the hotel—it could just as well be on the plane.
I’m really questioning this.
Isn’t there a law that protects customers in cases like this?
Because when I do the math, the first and part of the second day were spent on transport, same for the second-to-last and last day. And I paid for 7 nights for a stay that only lasted 5.
Anyway, I just want to say thanks to them—thanks to their two sleepless nights in transit, I’m coming back even more exhausted from a trip that was supposed to be restful!
I also want to warn anyone booking through this agency about visas for Egypt.
At booking, they told me the visa was included in the price, then they sent me an email saying I’d have to pay for it on-site at 25 €.
Once there, we were directed to a special line for FTI customers, and guess what? They charged us 30 €!
Basically, they’re great at making sure you *enjoy* your vacation—mostly by enjoying your wallet!
If anyone has dealt with this kind of situation and won their case, I’m all ears.

So I thought I’d get a Thai SIM card to use Google Maps for getting around cities, mostly.
Here’s my question: will this SIM affect my apps? Or will they work the same as with my Orange SIM?
Is there any setup I need to do, or can I just pop in the Thai SIM?
I’d also like to switch back to my Orange SIM now and then while I’m in Thailand—on the same phone. Will I need to reset the phone, or will it reconnect without any issues?

I’m reaching out to all travelers and globe-trotters on this forum. I’m a teacher in Creuse working in a ULIS program (which welcomes children aged 6 to 12 with disabilities into a mainstream school). This year, I’m launching a school journal project that will involve the kids in many different topics. A big part of this journal will focus on opening up to the world, embracing differences, travel, global cultures, and more.
I’m putting out a call to invite as many of you as possible to send us a postcard (from France or anywhere in the world)! The goal is to help us "travel" and discover new places, countries, and horizons in a way that’s much more fun and exciting than a geography textbook. One section of our journal could be called "We received a letter from ," where we’d research the location and share what we learn with our readers—a really enriching activity for the classroom.
The project starts in September 2025 but doesn’t have a strict end date, since this journal and world-discovery initiative will span several school years (the kids stay in the ULIS program for multiple years). Postcards can be sent anytime—throughout the year, across seasons, even during holidays! The kids will find them when they return.
I hope this idea appeals to as many of you as possible, and that you’ll spread the word to your fellow travelers. Help us dream and explore!

Hello. We’re a retired couple heading to Sri Lanka from January to March. It appears to be Somali pirates who have widened their search in the Mozambique Channel, far from their usual attack zone, since, to my knowledge, there are no Malagasy pirates.

Where’s Cape Vidal?
It’s in iSimangaliso, an independent park in KZN Wildlife, stunning and just a stone’s throw from St Lucia (KwaZulu-Natal, Maputaland).
It’s the beach spot at the end of the Eastern Shores road. You can swim, fish... but watch out for waves, currents, and sharks...
There’s a really nice game drive where you can get out of your car at certain points, especially at Cape Vidal.
That’s where the camp with bungalows and campsites is.
The vervets and samango monkeys (endemic to the area, and the males are pretty big) can be a bit of a nuisance if you’re trying to braai...
They’re super persistent and not shy at all—don’t let them intimidate you, and stay alert because their speed at snatching food is impressive.
Anyway...
I’m reporting two recent attacks by these hyenas... who were *not* in a playful mood...
The first one happened at night—a hyena tried to bite a camper’s nose off in their tent... and succeeded.
The other night, a camper returning to their tent in the early hours was violently attacked by two hyenas... and they had a close call!
So, if you’re camping there, be careful...
Measures are being taken, but for now, it’s a bit risky.
A white rental Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 carrying foreign tourists was attacked at the entrance of Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park in the village of Bekopaka, western Madagascar, yesterday. So far, there’s been no response from the central government to curb these repeated armed attacks—usually between Malagasy people, but this time targeting foreign tourists.
After an engine failure in mid-2016 on a long-haul flight from BRISBANE to LYON, I developed a persistent aviophobia that I’m struggling to shake off. It’s becoming more and more of a hindrance.
Up until now, I’ve been using an avoidance strategy (for example, avoiding destinations that would require any other mode of transport than a car or train), but lately, it’s become really limiting.
I’m looking for a therapist—either in-person or via video call—who could help me get past this hurdle.
First and foremost, I hope this topic won’t just focus on my region—the South of France—and that those of you who enjoy exchanging ideas will share what makes your own regions special.
Personally, I’ve often wanted to push back when people call us vulgar (though I’ll admit I sometimes play it up). At heart, we pure-blooded Southerners just have our own way of expressing ourselves, which differs from other regions. We also get heated in conversations pretty easily (some researchers say it’s the influence of the sun and climate in general).
What some perceive as vulgar, we don’t see that way at all.
Do you want a uniform world with no differences? If so, how do you handle traveling to places with cultures completely different from your own?
In the travel community, the word "authenticity" comes up a lot, and it often takes priority in people’s searches.
In my specific case, speaking a purely regional language without having gone to school for it doesn’t help with understanding on this forum. That’s what creates what you call controversies—and what I call passionate exchanges.
It left me speechless and ended the conversation because, for him, that’s just how he sees things, and he refuses to debate it, sticking to his position. I’ll quote him, hoping he won’t hold it against me:
"For me, things like bullfighting, boxing, football, and MMA are just tangible proof that human evolution is still at a primitive stage."
For him, our Latin-origin bullfights are barbaric customs. For us *taurins*, we need to see men face wild beasts (bulls and *toros*) at the risk of their lives every day. Does that make us barbarians?
We’ve always had this need to confront death—it’s in our genes.
Take the example he gave about football: fans of the sport would be considered mentally underdeveloped. But what about a kid who’s passionate about the game and has that drive to be a winner, just like a boxer or athletes in other violent sports?
As a traveler myself, passionate about old stones and beautiful historic buildings, I’ve visited Rome but couldn’t fully appreciate it. Religion is everywhere, and I felt like I had a lead weight on my head realizing that millions of people worldwide have believed in a god for millennia.
I’ve also judged believers for basing their faith on archaic texts that don’t prove a god (or gods) ever existed—I still think that, but I’m open to being proven wrong so I can say, "You’ve convinced me I was mistaken."
- If everyone clings to their own ideas and positions, no discussion is possible, and that’s a shame.
I’ll take away two things from my forum interactions: some accuse me of being omnipresent when I just love exchanging ideas. My way of speaking is misunderstood (regional differences), even if I’ll admit I sometimes turn up the heat—or rather, the *aïoli* —which for me is just lively debates 🔥 (a regional specialty).
And my "mocking" side, which I really need to work on.
This topic isn’t just about me—I hope other forum members will share their own regional "specialties" . For example, in Alsace, some older folks switch to their local language when they don’t want outsiders to understand, and I still don’t know if it’s German or something else.
