Nous comptons déménager en Colombie-Britannique à la fin de l'été 2009. J'en saurai plus longtemps sur la destination précise d'ici quelques semaines (car après ma formation en tant qu'agent de la paix, je saurai la ville) mais ce sera probablement Kamloops ou Kelona ou bien dans cette région. Nous sommes un couple avec un adolescent de 17 ans.
Nous aimerions savoir s'il y a quelqu'un qui a déjà ou connait quelqu'un qui a déjà déménagé dans cette région, qui pourrait nous donner du feedback sur les maisons, les loyers, le coin, la mentalité des gens etc.. est-ce qu'il y a des communautés francophones?
Également, ma conjointe est infirmière (technicienne) et tentera de se trouver un poste là-bas. Question : Le DEC est-il suffisant?

J'habite à Salmon Arm qui est à 1h15 de Kamloops et 1h15 de Kelowna. Tu as de la chance d'etre nommé dans l'une de ces 2 villes, qui sont parmi les moins froides de l'intérieur de la CB.
D'abord Kamloops:ville assez dynamique, appelée aussi la capitale canadienne des tournois (énormément de tournois sportifs). Piste de ski à a peine 1 heure (Sun Peak). Les loyers sont moins chers qu'à Kelowna. Il y a une pulp mill donc cela sent un peu.
Ensuite, Kelowna. Ville très (certains diront trop) dynamique. La circulation, peut etre un cauchemar. Maisons très très chères : regarde à www.mls.ca pour avoir une idée. Il y a le lac, piste de ski à 1h30 (Big White). Beaucoup de retraités de l'Alberta, des Prairies et de la région de Vancouver viennent s'y installer à cause du climat.
Prix des maisons varient en fonction de : la grandeur et de l'emplacement, donc dificile de te donner un prix.
Par contre pour ton ado, il devra aller en grade 12 si il est en secondaire 5 au Québec (dernière année de high school). Il n'y a pas de CEGEP ici. S'il finit sa première année de CEGEP je ne sais pas trop ce qu'il doit faire.
Tout d'abord, je te remecie pour ta réponse, c'est apprécié. J'aimerais savoir le prix moyen des maisons ou apartements à Salmon Arm. Également, ma conjointe est infirmière de formation et je veux savoir s'il sera facile pour elle de se trouver du travail dans son domaine (je parle pour Salmon Arm et si tu peux me dire pour Kamloops et Kelonna).

Pour le prix des maisons ici, le prix moyen d'une maison (2, 000 - 2, 500 pieds carrés) varie de $ 300, 000 à $500, 000. Cela dépend du quartier et de la grandeur du terrain. Il faut te dire que le prix des maisons a litéralement explosé ces 3 dernières années. Nous avions acheté notre maison il y a 7 ans $164, 000 et on l'a vendue 4 ans plus tard pour $297, 000 sans faire de rénovations majeures, juste repeindre.
Si tu veux vivre à la campagne, ce sera un peu moins cher, mais là aussi cela dépendra de la grandeur du terrain et de la maison. Ce qui est sur, c'est qu'une maison à Salmon Arm sera beaucoup moins chère qu'à Kamloops ou Kelowna.
Le climat est aussi très différent. Kamloops et Kelowns, c'est très sec, à la limite je dirai aride. Les étés peuvent etre très très chauds. des semaines sans pluie avec des températures moyennes de plus de 30. Salmon Arm est plus pluvieux. donc beaucoup plus vert. Personnellement, je préfère S.A: petite ville, juste assez de neige pour profiter de l'hiver (neige de décembre à février, d'habitude).
Pour ce qui est de ta femme je ne sais pas comment cela fonctionne. Je sais qu'une infirmière d'Alberta était venue s'insatller avec son mari (policier de Calgary à la retraite) il y a 2 ans et qu'elle s'était trouvée du boulot à l'hopital. Je pense que vous devriez directement contacter les hopitaux des villes qui vous intéressent.
Je suis déménagée à Kelowna à la fin du mois d'octobre de cette année... c'est assez récent alors je n'ai pas toutes les réponses à tes questions... je peux te dire que ça nous a pris environ 1 semaine trouvé un logement... il faut s'attendre à 1000-1500$, tout dépend de la localisation!
Pour les maisons, nous avons vite oublié l'idée car les prix sont très cher par rapport au Québec... pour une maison décente (style bungalow qu'on pait 200 000$ au Qc) il faudrait s'attendre à payer environ 500 000$. Par contre, on s'est fait dire que les prix descendent tranquillement, avec toute la situation économique au Canada.
Les gens dans le coin sont supers sympatiques. On dit du BC que c'est la province qui ressemble le plus au Québec côté mentalité et je pense que c'est vrai. On rencontre souvent des québécois établis ici... c'est assez surprenant.
Ah oui.. j'ai oublié de mentionné... je ne sais pas si tu es au courant mais ta conjoite va avoir droit au chômage car elle devra quitter son emploi pour suivre son conjoint...

Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
