mon mari a une proposition de travail ( trés interessante) en Colombie Britannique à Kelowna.
Nous habitons le sud de la France et avons 2 garçons de 7 et 10 ans.Je recherche des informations précises, idéalement de familles francophones :
Les conditions climatiques , la vie dans cette ville, le système scolaire pour les enfants.
J'ai lu quelques sites mais les renseignements datent de plusieurs années et si l' on regarde les photos ou avis des gens qui ne passent que quelques jours de vacances, je crains que tout soit toujours trés beau.....Je souhaiterai avoir le témoignage de gens qui vivent à Kelowna ( ou dans la région) .
Il est clair que cette région semble magnifique pour des vacances au moins !Merci d'avance
Le climat à Kelowna est très sec (380 mm/an) et assez bien ensoleillé (un peu moins de 2000 heures/an, soit quasiment comme Bordeaux) ; il fait chaud à très chaud en été (régulièrement 30/35°C) mais l'air est très sec et les nuits sont fraîches (autour de 10°C en moyenne) ; l'hiver est froid, sans excès (ou très ponctuellement), et sec (assez peu de neige et de pluie). Les records extrêmes tournent autour de 40°C en été et -35°C en hiver.

Le paysage est semi désertique dans la vallée de l'Okanagan, et il y a des secteurs encore plus chauds que Kelowna (Kamloops, Lillooet, Lytton, etc.).

L'avantage de l'Okanagan c'est qu'il n'y pleut pas comme à Vancouver..
Kelowna le peu que j'en ai vu n'est pas vraiment une belle ville.
Attention il faut une voiture parce que la ville est TRES étendue.
C'est comme Kamloops et Kamloops c'est une des villes les plus étendues au Canada.
Sinon c'est mon rêve éternel de vivre dans ce coin de BC...
le cadre alentour est terrible, des montagnes, des forêts c'est vraiment le Canada comme on se l'imagine.
Près de Kelowna et vers Penticton il y a l'Okanagan Provincial Park , je crois qu'il est infesté de crotales en été.
Sinon au sud Osooyos le plus petit désert du Canada.
Les montagnes ressemblent assez aux montagnes du sud de la France.
Des possibilités de randonner nombreuses.
L'été on peut se baigner dans le lac Okanagan.
Le gros risque c'est les feux de forêts ; en 2003 Kelowna a bien failli cramer ; l'été précédent en 2010 il y avait aussi des feux de forêts importants dans la BC de l'intérieur.
Lytton est une petite ville sans intérêt à la confluence de la Fraser et de la Thompson.
Sur la route entre Hope et Lytton il y a des descentes en rafting je crois.
Sinon comme le dit CanadaGoose l'endroit est très sec , Lytton c'est l'endroit le plus sec du Canada.
Attention en randonnant mieux vaut avoir une bombe anti-ours c'est pas une plaisanteries on voit fréquemment des ours noirs sur des chemins un peu isolésé j'en ai vu plusieurs fois notamment dans l'Okanagan et près de Hope.
Lorsque Lytton avait en partie flambé à cause des incendies de forêts en 2003 des propriétaires de maison ont eu la surprise de voir des ours noirs visiter leur maison.
J'ai pensé mettre mon grain de sel à la conversation. Je connais très bien la région de Kelowna. C'est la ville centre d'une région appellée Vallée de l'okanagan est située entre Calgary et Vancouver. La région est très prisée des bébéboomers en raison du climat et des paysages fabuleux. (je m'étais juré de finir mes jours la lorsque j'y ai mis les pieds pour la première fois il y a 40 ans). Cela a fait exploser l'immobilier. Il faut que l'offre d'emploi soit très intéressante car le coût de la vie est chère.
L'immobilier a forcé beaucoup de locaux à quiter la région car les salaires n'ont pas augmenter aussi rapidement que le cout de la vie.
C'est sur qu'avec un excellent travail, le salaire est excellent tout est possible.
Jadis, c'était la nec du plein air avec un chalet sur le bord du lac. Aujourd'hui les amateurs de plein air a toute les possibilités pour faire du plein air mais en région 50 a 80 km.
Kelowna est aussi très prisée par les vacanciers en été. On a construit beaucoup de complexes touristiques, je dirais beaucoup beaucoup trop.
La population a quadruplé en 30 ans. Elle a un bon hopital, et compte un campus universitaire, mais c'est assez minimal.
Très belle température. Le printemps débute au début de mars. L'été Coté climat: bat son plein à partir du 15 juin jusqu'en septembre avec une température de 27 à 33 et le climat est très sec. L'automne se prolonge avec les premières neiges fin novembre. L'hiver est assez court et pas très froid, quelques occasions -10C à -15C.
Il y a bien une association francophone dans la région, mais je ne la connais pas. Il y aurait quelques miliers francos.
Merci pour toutes ces infos.J'ai bien l'impression que si les conditions de travail sont favorable pour ce boulot, nous n'aurions pas trop de raisons de ne pas nous y installer ( il y a pire comme changement de vie !!!......).Puisqu'il s'agit d'une région trés chère d'aprés vos commentaires, quel serait le revenu necéssaire pour une famille avec 2 enfants ? Je ne veux pas faire de comparaison avec la France, car les systèmes (santé, scolarité, impots....) sont différents et je risque de me tromper .
C'est dur d'estimer le revenue familiale pour bien vivre à Kelowna car c'est très facile d'errer. Je dirais $150,000. par année.
Comme le cout de l'immobilier a exploser dans les dernieres années, l'endroit que vous habiterez va jouer gros. Un appart de 3 chambres à coucher entre $800. et $1200 par mois, une maison mobile entre $1000. et $1500, et une maison entre $2000 et $3000. Pour l'immobilier voir www.mls.ca

L'épicerie autour de $1000. avec abondance de fruits et légumes locaux.
Sorties au restaurant. Entre assez et très dispendieux.
Excellente station de ski à 30 minutes de Kelowna.
Ça coute tres cher pour un canadien migrant au BC, BC stands as brings cash. Assurances auto. Apportez absolument votre contrat d'assurance actuel pour prouver votre bon dossier de conducteur en espérant qu'il en tienne compte.
Allez sur www.50plus.com bon nombres de retraités parlent de leur migration, leur frustration, pour vous aider à planifier, voir prévoir votre arrivée.
Parlant du fait francophone dans l'okanagan. Il y a chaque année une migration importante de francophones du Québec à chaque été pour ceuillir les fruits.
Je sais que je vais pas me faire des amis, mais bon nombre de personnes ne voient pas les francos d'un bon oeil, car il y a toujours une petite minorité qui nous font pas toujours honneur.
A votre arrivée, il se peut que certaines personnes soient méfiantes, mais n'ayez crainte, vous vous ferez votre lot d'amis.
Je vous souhaite la meilleure des chances. Vous vous adapterez très bien. La température, le climat et la beauté des paysages de la Colombie Britanique sont à couper le soufle et vont vous impulser une joie de vivre et un émerveillement intarissable.

If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
