hi Do you know of any travel insurance for someone with a pre-existing condition? Can a person who’s had a heart attack and is on medication get travel insurance? Thanks

Good evening, don't forget that for traveling in Europe and even Switzerland, you can apply for the European Health Insurance Card, which covers you if needed. Otherwise, I can only give a brief answer: you should contact major insurers like Europ Assistance, for example.

Good evening,

The medical assistance and repatriation coverage on your bank card only applies if you’ve been recently hospitalized—at least, that’s what the terms on mine say. I think I already answered this same question recently… where did that post go?

hi, I also thought this discussion sounded familiar even though I didn’t take part in it!! It was here: Is there travel insurance for someone who’s had a heart attack? | Traveler Health > United States / Canada (except Quebec) | Voyage Forum

saying hi from Montreal, by the way 😛

Several insurers in Quebec, like "Blue Cross" for example, agree to cover a pre-existing condition, provided it's stable periodically—meaning it doesn’t cause new symptoms or worsening, there hasn’t been any recent change in treatment or medication, and there are no tests or consultations related to the condition during the required period.

Thanks for your reply! Sorry for the delay in thanking you. For your information, the dozen or so insurance companies I contacted gave responses similar to the one below:

"We inform you that pre-existing conditions that required hospitalization within the 6 months prior to the travel departure date are part of the contract exclusions. If no continuous hospitalization occurred in the last six months and subject to the approval of our assistance team and the regulating physician, coverage might be possible. If needed while abroad, you’ll have to contact the assistance team at the number indicated on your insurance documents to confirm coverage. Regarding existing medical treatments, these are not covered by our insurance guarantees." Best regards,
