Fjord cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes

Hi there, we’re planning a trip to Norway next June. Since my partner gets vertigo, renting a car is out of the question. So, we’re thinking of doing the Bergen to Kirkenes route by cruise—6 nights, 7 days—with either Hurtigruten or Havila. Is this journey as amazing as it sounds? Is one provider better than the other?

Basically, any tips would be super helpful.

Thanks.

Hi Jean-Guy,

A cruise in Norway is a fantastic way to explore the country. I can’t give you any info on the two companies you mentioned. Just make sure you check the duration and timing of the stops with Hurtigruten to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Sometimes the stop lasts less than an hour, and other times it can be in the middle of the night.

We took a cruise in Norway last June with Princess, and it was amazing.

Is this trip as interesting as people say?

Hi there, More than interesting—it’s absolutely breathtaking and wonderful! For work reasons, I sailed all the way to Bergen and the Norwegian fjords, and it’s a destination you really can’t miss.

Thanks for your comment. It’s really appreciated.

A common piece of feedback about our current itinerary is that the distances are quite large for a 3-week trip (Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, and the 7-day cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes, etc.).

We’re considering skipping the cruise and taking the train from Oslo to Bergen instead, with a stop to do the Flam Railway.

There are probably some great day cruises departing from Flam or Bergen.

If you have any suggestions, they’d be very welcome.

Thanks again.

hi there, yeah, distances are huge in Scandinavia. For example, traveling from Helsinki to Rovaniemi takes a whole night by train
