Bonjour a tous, nous avons comme projet de partir pendant 15-16 jours sur la cote ouest des etats unis, a savoir le circuit classique entre Los Angeles et San fransisco . De ce fait j'ai plusieurs questions a vous poser et j'ai besoin d'avis ( Hotels , location de voiture etccc ) . Je precise que nous serons a priori 3 personnes, peut etre 4.
Il faut egalement a ajouter le retour sur Los Angeles depuis SF
donc deja au niveau des prix, j'ai regardé sur expedia dans " vol + voiture " et j'ai trouvé des prix allant d'environ 700€ a 900€ ( par personne ) , inculant donc le vol A/R Nice Los Angeles ainsi que la location du vehicule pendant 15 jours, ce qui me parait interessant a priori, mais qui sait , peut etre ya t il moyen de trouver - cher. Ensuite, j'ai entendu dire qu'il y avait d'autres frais a payer au loueur et j'aurais voulu savoir combien a peu prés cela pourrait couter. Autre question, les voitures sont elles munis de GPS ?
au Niveau des hotels, J'ai deja regardé en fonction de mes dates sur hotels.fr , a Los Angeles un 2-3* a Hollywood (2 / 3 nuits, a peu prés 250-300€ pour 3 personnes dans 1 chambre, Las Vegas (2nuits ) un peu moins cher , puis ensuite aux hotels/motels/lodges prés du Grand canyon, Monument valley, Bryce, Yosemite etccc ) a des pris similaires. J'aurais voulu savoir si ces prix vous paraissaient interessant ou si il y avait d'autres sites a aller consulter . Ensuite au niveau de San fransisco, je ne sais pas dans quel quartier de la ville reservé.
Enfin, pour la route entre San fransisco et Los Angeles, ya t ils des centres d'interet ? peut on la faire en 1 journée ?

tu parles de l'assurance multirisiques ? ou l'assurance pour la voiture ? Sinon si tu penses que cela est un peu trop ambitieux, tu penses que je devrais " supprimer " quoi ? la region de page ou de zion ? Un ami a fait le meme circuit en 2 semaines et m'avait dit qu 'il avait eu le de temps de tout faire, c'est pour ca que je comprends pas trés bien, sachant que je compte rester 3 jours a maxi a LA, 2 jours maxi a Vegas et 2-3 jours maxi a SF.
En ce qui concerne les logements dans les parcs, je vais regarder sur ton site mais par exemple le logement " the view " du monument valley, c'est un bon choix ou pas pour toi ?
Enfin, pour la route entre San fransisco et Los Angeles, ya t ils des centres d'interet ? peut on la faire en 1 journée ?
La CA1 est magnifique, notamment la région de Big Sur (au sud de Monterey). 2 jours pour parcourir cette route, c'est le minimum.
Ok ok merci, 2 jours pour parcourir 700 km ? lool c'est immense bon ben jvais reflechir , et par la route 5 que je vois sur Google map, pareil 2 jours minimum ?

Pour decouper les etapes, je ne sais pas trop, c'est mon premier voyage de ce type mais j'essaie de me renseigner mais deja, le probleme c'est que je ne sais pas si certains trajets sont realisables rapidement, par exemple, aprés etre resté 2 ou 3 jours a Los Angeles, en combien de temps je vais atteindre Grand Canyon . Ou faut il plutot faire LA- Las Vegas puis ensuite toute la region qui comprend Grand Canyon Monument Valley Bryce zion etccc pour ensuite repartir vers Death Valley et SF ?

Tu t'étonnes de faire 700 kms en deux jours....pour répondre a ton etonnement... les speed limits ne sont pas les mêmes qu'en France.. mais c'est un détail..... par contre, il faut savoir si tu y vas pour voir, ou pour goudronner..... c'est là tout le dilemne des personnes qui n'ont jamais mis un oeil sur le terrain....
Donc, en conclusion, et j'insiste lourdement... tant que tu n'as pas écrit ton circuit, avec les jours et les lieux... on ne peut pas franchement juger de sa faisabilité...😛

pour en revenir a ton circuit (non non , je n'insiste pas😇) effectivement en regardant de plus près, tu n'as pas l'air d'aller a Moab... ce qui pourrait donc bien se passer pour toi....
par contre, ça te fait déjà 8 jours dans les villes.... reste 8 jours dans les parcs....tout a fait honnête

Ok ok donc en 15 jours, ce circuit est largement faisable
La seule incertitude c'est le Tioga Pass (la route 120 qui traverse Yosemite NP d'Est en Ouest).
Il faudra prévoir un plan B, car tu ne pourras pas savoir avant ton départ si la route est ouverte ou non.
Et même si la route est ouverte, il suffit qu'il neige la veille de ton passage....
Oui je vais etre plus clair sur l'itineraire : Pas de Moab et finalement nous renoncons a la route entre SF et LA, donc finalement en 15 jours, je pense que ca peut le faire, sur expedia j'ai donc ete voir pour un billet d'avion multi destinations, un aller Nice LA puis un autre aller SF Nice, pour des prix oscillants entre 600 et 900€ , donc voila, ensuite pour la voiture je cherche sur des sites notamment sur autoescape.fr qui m'a l'air interessant.
Edit : pour les jours dans les villes je ne sais pas trop, par exemple nous arriverions a LA vers 16h40 , le temps de recuperer le vehicule , trouver l'hotel, il restera pas grand chose, pour les studios universal , on m'a dit 1 journée complete, ensuite hollywood, berverly hills, santa monica, ca peut prendre combien de temps ? 1 ou 2 jours supplementaires ? Las Vegas nous hesitons entre 1 et 2 nuits, et SF a priori 2-3 nuits , donc oui comme tu dis a peu prés 7-8 jours .
il y en a d'autres, , le principal, c'est d'avoir la SLI(ou LIS) avec une franchise étendue a 1m de $....
c'est ce paramètre qui est peut être difficile a controler sur expedia

Donc au niveau de l'ordre ce serait : Los Angeles - Las Vegas - Grand canyon - Monument valley -Page - Bryce Canyon - Zion - Petit retour a LV - Death valley - Yosemite - SF
ou alors Je mets Vegas aprés Zion et je fais directement Los Angeles - Grand Canyon mais le probleme c'est que la route me parait bien longue donc je ne sais pas trop .
ta deuxieme supposition est meilleure a mon humble avis..
si la route te semble trop longue, tu peux t'arrêter vers Kingman et le lendemain profiter de la portion de route 66 qui va de Oatman à Seligman... (tu peux aussi le faire sur le trajet d'une journée entre LA et GC, mais ça reste un peu lourd)...

J'ai essayé de dresser mon itineraire, je ne sais trop quoi en penser , le voici :
Jour 1 : Arrivée a LOS angeles ( normalement vers 16h40 ) , recuperation de la voiture , installation a l’hotel , breve visite d’hollywood ou se trouve l’hotel . nuit a l’hotel
Jour 2 : Journée entiere pour les studios universal . nuit a l’hotel
Jour 3 : Visite le matin d’hollywood, santa monica , beverly hills ( shopping , dejeuner ) et depart après vers Grand Canyon en tout debut d’après midi . Nuit a Kingman a priori car LA GC en une demi journée, un peu long.
Jour 4 : En route pour Grand Canyon, balade prés du site toute la journée ( 1 jour est ce suffisant pour Grand Canyon ? ) et nuit dans un hotel , motel ou lodge je ne sais pas encore prés du site ou un peu plus loin
Jour 5 : Depart le Matin pour Monument valley, , visite du parc et des points de vue, et nuit la bas ( on aimerait the view , a voir )
Après pour les jours 6, 7 et 8 je ne sais pas comment faire, les trois parcs que sont zion , page et Bryce sont ils très eloignés les uns des autres ? au niveau des hotels, vous pensez qu’une nuit a page, une nuit a zion et une nuit a Bryce seront suffisants ?
Jour 8 : arrivée a Las Vegas, visite du strip , diner et nuit la bas
Jour 9 : Balade dans la ville en fin de matinée, petit tour aux outlets et autres magasins, nuit a l’hotel ( prés du strip mais on n’a pas encore choisi lequel )
Jour 10 : depart le matin pour death valley , après je ne sais pas si nous devons nous attarder sur le parc national ? Nuit prés d’ici ou un peu plus loin ?
Jour 11 : Kings Canyon, visite du parc et route vers yosemite puis nuit la bas
Jour 12 : Yosemite national park en matinée , petit dejeuner la bas et route vers san fransisco en fin d’après midi , nuit dans un hotel entre Yosemite et SF ou aller directement a SF ?
Jour 13, 14 15 : Visite de SF et envol pour la France a la fin du 15eme jour
Voila j’ai essayé de dresser un itineraire, a mon avis il y a quelques erreurs et choix discutables donc voila j’aimerais avoir vos avis de professionnels lol merci bien . Je pourrais peut etre enlever 1 journée a SF et la mettre autre part
J1 : un coucher de soleil depuis Griffith Park à l'observatoire
J2 : en soirée après Universal Santa Monica est agréable , animations et restos sympas

Les routes de Sequoias et King sont tortueuses , lentes et celles Yosemite sont en plus très fréquentées
De depart Las Vegas ( 9eme jour ) a San Francisco ( 13eme jour ) soit 4 ours, tu penses que ca ne suffira pas pour Death Valley, Yosemite etccc ? Ou pense tu que je dois enlever 1 journée a LV, ou alors partir en fin de journée ?

L'itinéraire est "correct" , le passage par Sequoia et King est long mais agréable , dicté par la saison pour cause de Tioga fermée ou par choix ?
Perso , une préférence pour la Tioga si ouverte avec Bodie aux environs de Lee Vining en remplacement de Three Rivers.
Rebonjour, j'ai essayé plusieurs dates de departs, en suivant mon itineraire, et a chaque fois que j'arrive sur death valley ( que ce soit en week end ou en semaine ) je ne trouve rien de disponible ? que faire ? zapper Death Valley et foncer sur KingsCanyon ou trouver un patelin a coté ?
ensuite, ce sera vraiment 15 jours ? car ton programme "coince" sur 15 jours ! 😕

· J11 : Page + Trajet Page - Monument Valley (MV). Visite MV (fin d'après-midi) - nuit MV ou Kayenta
· J12 : Trajet Monument Valley - Grand Canyon + visite Grand Canyon (jusqu'au coucher de soleil) - nuit au Grand Canyon
· J13 : Lever de soleil au Grand Canyon - trajet vers LA (7h de route mais avec des arrêts le long de la route 66... ça passe...)

Salut, merci de m'avoir repondu, oui effectivement le sejour coince un peu, il faudrait 17 jours, moi ce serait ok mais pour collegues avec leur travail, je ne sais pas du tout. J'avais penser a ceci : aprés avoir fait BRYCE CANYON, foncer directement sur LAS VEGAS et ne pas s'arreter a ZION. Nous voulons decouvrir ces merveilleux endroits mais nous ne somme pas non plus des randonneurs professionnels. Aprés comme jte dis, Je voudrais partir du 7 au 22 juin ou du 10 au 25 juin, et a ces 2 periodes, lorsque j'arrive vers Death Valley, je ne trouve rien de disponible . Est ce que tu penses qu'il faudrait que je fasse directement le trajet LAS VEGAS YOSEMITE le matin ? Nous voulons a tout prix voir LA, meme si j'ai lu que cette ville decevait beaucoup de gens.

- si tu pars du 7 au 22 juin => Death Valley le 12
- si tu pars du 10 au 25 juin => Death Valley le 15

et idem au Furnace Creeek Ranch 😉

si tu veux loger directement dans les parcs, il faut souvent regarder directement sur les sites de Xanterra qui gèrent les hôtels/lodges dans les parcs (et pas sur hotels.fr ou autres)... par ex, au Grand Canyon, pour le Maswik Lodge (ou autres), tu vas ici : http://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/
si tu regardes les itinéraires suggérés depuis Phoenix, il faudra soit zapper LA, soit zapper Death Valley et Yosemite...

Alors, etant donné que 15 jours, ca risque d'etre serré, je voulais savoir pour la route entre Los Angeles et SF, nous voudrions y arriver le plus vite possible, ne pas longer la cote mais prendre l'autoroute. Sur google maps, ils parlent d'environ 600km et 6h de route, alors que sur certains sites, j'ai lu qu'il fallait 1 jour voir + pour monter jusqu'a SF depuis LA
Ok, donc a priori le jour du depart, il faudra que je parte tot de La, disons entre 8h et 10h du matin pour pouvoir arriver a SF en fin d'aprés midi et profiter de la ville en fin de soirée
Je ferais un effort pour décoller vers 7/8h , de plus ne sachant pas ou tu dors à LA , ça roule à ces heures là , si tu es au sud de la ville , rajoute une heure facile .

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

There are several attractions along the way:

- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. They told us they’ve spent over 15 years exploring every corner of the American West, and it really shows. Their knowledge of geology, park history, and local anecdotes is just impressive. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
