Hi everyone, We’re heading to New York soon, and my husband, who’s a firefighter, has always dreamed of trading his retired helmet for an American one. He doesn’t know how to go about it, but I’d love to surprise him by making it happen. Could anyone help me out? Maybe point me to a contact? I already tried messaging the FDNY’s Facebook page but didn’t get a reply... Thanks in advance for your help! Cécile

Hi there,

I have no idea how to go about this, but being a loyal forum member for years reminded me this topic has come up before.

In the forum search bar, type "casque pompier" and you’ll find posts that discuss it.

Generally, fire stations in NYC are closed to the public, and visits aren’t allowed—especially the one at Ground Zero. That said, there are other stations where you can ring the doorbell and present your exchange idea. Just search "Firestation NYC" on Google Maps, and you’ll have the map right there!

Don’t forget to visit the New York City Fire Museum—it’s a real gem!

Thanks for your feedback! I saw the posts—they’re a bit old, but I’ll try to get in touch with the members.

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, we were advised to stay away from the touristy center, so we’ve started looking at fire stations a bit farther out. I know they like it when you buy the patches and T-shirts, and that’s already in the plans! ;)
