Tout à fait d'accord avec AstridE : l'Equateur est un pays magnifique, tout en couleur, les gens y sont adorables.
Nous y avons passé 15 jours en février avec nos enfants, et il est vrai que j'avais quelques appréhensions avant le départ, justement parce que je n'arrivais pas à trouver des infos sur ce pays. Je me suis demandée si nous avions fait le bon choix !
Bref, nous avons adoré notre séjour là-bas, les paysages sont superbes, nous avons passé 2 jours dans une communauté indigène, inoubliable ...
Je vous conseille donc aussi de vous pencher sur ce si petit pays, mais tellement merveilleux !!!

je viens de m'inscrire car justement, je prépare un voyage en equateur 3 sem en juillet et je cherche des renseignements car je pars avec mes 2 enfants (13 et 15 ans) et je voudrais allier culture et loisirs. nous avons de la famille à QUITO aussi j'aimerais faire 3/'4 Jours en amazonie puis descendre a cuenca et aller sur l'isla de plata (les galapagos du pauvre!) qu'en pensez-vous, laurence et astride.

Je ne vais pas trop pouvoir vous aider, car nous ne sommes allés ni en Amazonie, ni sur la Cote pacifique, ni sur la Isla de la Plata !!! (par contre, nous nous sommes payés le luxe des Galapagos !!!!).
Nous avons adoré Mindo, la région de Banos, Otavalo, notre séjour chez Manuel et Laura, famille indigène près de Ibarra. Si vous avez la possibilité, je vous le conseille vivement ! Cela a été une expérience très riche, pour nos enfants également.
Nos enfants sont plus petits que les vôtres (5 et 7 ans), nous avons dû choisir des activités faciles pour eux, sinon, il y a l'ascension des volcans qui doit être merveilleux ....

Pour l'Amazonie, il y a une jeune française, Nolwenn Liebard qui a monté un projet d'écotourisme avec la communauté indigène de Campo cocha près de Tena.Ils proposent des séjours de 3/4jours.
Si tu as le temps nhésite pas à aller chez Laura et Manuel dont parle Laurence, tes enfants et toi en garderons surement un superbe souvenir.

oui .... biensur je le peux. parce que ca a été mon plus beau voyage. la chose est que les paysages sont trèèès variés, de la plage aux volcans, en passant par les lamas, les grands champs à perte de vue, los indios des montagnes, les villes moches sans inéteret (comme partout), les trains au travers des montagnes, et surtout, .... la gentillesse des equatoriens ! ecoute, je tenais un carnet de voyage, si tu as besoin de renseignements, dis le moi;

je projette d'aller en equateur ( sac à dos - con tact avec indiens - montagne - amazonie et pourquoi pas les galapagos....)
un mois, peut-être cinq semaines pour pouvoir m'imprégner de ce pays, le premier choisi en amerique du sud - merci de me donner des infos: meilleure saison, ce que l'on peut faire et ne pas faire pour profiter au maximum de son sejour, logement, deplacements interieurs etc.....je voyage souvent seule pour faciliter les contacts avec les locaux et faire de la photo - je joins toujours l'utile à l'agreable ( aide humanitaire en apportant soit vetements pour enfants, medicaments .....) mes precedents

Pour ceux qui seront en Equateur au mois de Juin (ou joint c'est comme on veut! soleil1 :-))
Vers la fin du mois c'est l'Inty Raimy, la grande fête du solstice d'Eté la fête la plus importante pour les indigènes et elle est particulièrement fêtée dans l'Imbabura au nord de l'Equateur.
Vous pouvez la commencer à Otavalo le 23 juin, les festivités commencent vers 16 heures, en partant de Quito de bonne heure (Otavalo n'est qu'à 2 heures de bus) vous avez le temps de visiter le marché le matin et d'assister la fête l'aprés midi et le soir.
Prenez ensuite le bus le 24 au matin pour Ibarra (une demie heure de bus) puis pour la communauté Quichua de San Clemente dont parle Kikou72, L'inty Raimy y commence le 25 jusqu'au 29, vous serez logés dans une des 6 familles d'accueil du village, donc au coeur de la fête.
L'Inty Raymi est vraiment LA chose à ne pas manquer au mois de Juin en Equateur.
Pour y aller, d'Ibarra prenez un taxi jusqu'à l'école de San Clemente, juste avant l'école vous verrez une grande pancarte en bois : "Pukyu Pamba" faites suivre au chauffeur, la maison est à un kilomètre.(ou demandez la famille Guatemal)

Pour la sécurité en Equateur, le soir évitez le vieux Quito ainsi que les alentours des parcs municipaux (El Ejido, La Carolina) sinon prenez les mêmes précautions qu'ici, l'Equateur n'est pas un pays particulièrement dangeureux.
Nous partons demain pour tout le mois de Mai visiter 5 communautés indigènes si vous n''etes pas encore partie à cette époque je pourrais vous en dire plus fin Mai à propos de "chez l'habitant".
Nous pouvons bien sur, d'ici là garder le contact par le forum, mais je ne serai pas toujours au cyber-café.

Nous avons réservé notre croisière pour les Galapagos sur internet, dans une agence de voyages à Quito (Ecotrails), très sérieuse (si tu as besoin des coordonnées, je te les ferai passer).
Nous avons fait une croisière de 5 jours, qui nous a permis de visiter pas mal d'îles différentes, et nous a laissé un souvenir merveilleux (5 jours, c'est déjà très très bien au niveau de la durée).
Je ne pense pas qu'on puisse aller d'Equateur aux Galapagos en bateau, il y a plus de 1000 km, le plus simple reste l'avion donc ...
Si tu peux y aller, n'hésite pas, c'est vraiment le paradis sur terre !!!!

Nous rentrons d'Équateur et malheureusement nous ne sommes pas allés aux Galapagos (trop cher pour nous 4!), nous nous sommes donc contentés de faire une balade à l'isla de la plata au large de puerto lopez. Nous avons vu beaucoup d'oiseaux (des fous, des pattes bleues, des goélands, des pélicans...), une otarie et surtout des BALEINES ! ! ! GRAND SPECTACLE (mais pas garanti...)
Nous avons fait 15jours de circuit en 4x4 : Amazonie, Banos, cuenca, Guayaquil, Montanita, Portoviejo.... Je répondrai vonlontiers à toutes questions concernant ce joli petit pays.

Pourrais tu nous expliquer ton circuit 4X4 en peu plus dans le détail, par ou es tu passée, les temps de route, où as tu loué le 4X4, combien ça a côuté ...
Ceci pour comparer avec le bus, surtout sur 15 jours.

je compte me rendre en Equateur l'année prochaine: à part la Guyane française où j'ai fait un court séjour il y a très longtemps, c'est l' Equateur que j'ai choisi comme premier pays d'Amérique latine à visiter - voici quelques questions auxquelles vous pourrez peut-être apporter des réponses, selon votre expérience:
séjour d'un mois, peut-être cinq semaines: quelle est la meilleure période pour faire en même temps : l'amazône, escalader un volcan, visiter la majeure partie de ce pays en évitant de préférence les sites trop touristiques et pourquoi pas, aller aux Galapagos ? je sais le voyage dans ce site incomparable coûte très cher ( avion) et y aller en bateau demande un certain temps - mais ce serait vraiment dommage d'être si près et de ne pas y aller -
j'ai acheté le routard que j'ai commencé à potasser -
j'ai l'habitude de voyager seule, sac à dos ( Népal, Himachal Pradesh en Inde, Tibet) - merci de vos conseils et astuces -

Oui, malheureusement, le paradis à son prix (mais cela permet de limiter l'invasion des touristes, et probablement de conserver la magie du site).
Nous avons fait une croisière sur un bateau "touriste supérieur" (le moins cher étant un bateau de classe "touriste"), le Guantanamera - 16 personnes à bord + l'équipage. Nous n'avons pas regretté, car il y a pas mal de place pour qu'on ne soit pas les uns sur les autres pendant 5 jours, d'autant que nous étions avec nos 2 enfants (ce qui a fait partie de la réussite de la croisière à mon avis).
Pour parler tarifs maintenant : le billet d'avion Quito - Galapagos : 389 dollars le droit d'accès au parc : 100 dollars la croisière en elle-même (5 jours) : 650 dollars
(la croisière sur le bateau de classe économique était à 550 dollars de mémoire).
Au niveau du climat, je pense qu'il fait très beau et chaud toute l'année, et l'eau est à une très agréable température également.
N'hésite pas si tu as d'autres questions.

SUperbe voyage! superbe pays! la réacclimatation est difficile surtout qu'on avait presque froid, là bas!
le climat est variable en fonction des régions: nous avons eu de la pluie sur la route de l'amazonie, couvert, passages nuageux sur toute la partie montagne et couvert et pluvieux (leger!) sur la cote! mais pas eu chaud (voire même froid à quito et banos le soir!)
le 4x4 n'est pas un luxe ni un snobisme en equateur mais une réelle necessité: sur 2000 kms, nous avons fait plus de 1000 kms de pistes (la pan-americaine entre rio bamba et cuenca n'est quasiment pas goudronnée!) et quand c'est goudronné, il y a de tels trous que c'est du véritable slalom! alors rajoutez, un peu de pluie...
mais ça permet d'admirer le paysage qui est fabuleux: en 2000 kms nous avons eu l'impression de faire le tour du monde tant les paysages sont variés:
normandie, vaches comprises, Suisse, la forêt amazonnienne, l'alti plano quasi desertique (au dessus de 4000 m) les plantations de bananniers, de canne à sucre, et les cocotiers, pour finir sur la cote par la savanne avec cactus et baobabs (je ne crois pas que c'en étaient mais je n'arrive pas à trouver cette espèce: si quelqu'un connait...)
l'accueil est assez mitigé: ce n'est pas un peuple éxubérant, dans l'ensemble très gentil mais un peu méfiant dans les endroits pas touristiques (ce que le 4x4 permet plus facilement!)
la location de voitures coute cher mais nous sommes tombés sur un petit loueur (SIMON CAR RENTAL à quito et aeroport) qui a des prix très compétitifs et surtout une franchise en cas de vol (2000 uds) ou d'accident (1000 usd) 3 fois moins élevée que les loueurs plus connus. site internet avec prix respectés au centime!
de plus, on nous a cassé les serrures à cuenca (pendant le match france/italie, en plus...) et ils nous ont facturé 35usd (quand il auraient pu 350!!)
Il faut donc chercher des hotels avec parking ! et il y en a même dans les moins chers du routard.
SUPER EXPERIENCE!
Pour les galapagos, c'est clair que l'isla de la plata, ça n'a rien à voir mais quand on n'a pas les moyens c'est vraiment mieux que rien! et l'equateur en lui-même mérite le voyage.
pour les babas cool, ambiance super sympa (fête, surf et rencontres garantis) à MONTANITA! nous avons bien aimé!
reste à dispo de ceux qui y partent si je peux aider!

Tout est compris dans le prix de la croisière (sauf le pourboire en fin de séjour, qui est totalement libre, et les boissons (exceptée l'eau), qui sont à rajouter.
Oui, nous avons dormi sur le bateau, qui ne naviguait que soit tôt le matin, soit le soir.
Nous sommes partis 15 jours en tout : outre notre croisière aux galapagos, nous avons passé 2 jours dans une communauté indigène (chez les maintenant célèbres sur le forum : Manuel et Laura 😉).
Nous sommes également allés à Mindo, région d'Otavalo, Saquisili, Banos (on a adoré), la Mitad del Mundo, Quito (un peu, car très polluée !!!)
Nous étions chez des amis, et nous avons pu vivre avec eux le Carnaval, qui est un événement en Equateur, c'était très sympa.
Pour info, nous avons choisi comme moyen de locomotion le taxi (celui de notre ami). Pour le prix d'une location de voiture, nous avons voyagé sans stress, c'était super. D'autre part, nous avons fait des économies d'être avec un "local" (pour les entrées aux parcs ....).

Starting January 20, 2026, the intercity bus station Rodoviária is changing its address!
The Rodoviária is leaving the Iguatemi area and will now be located in ÁGUAS CLARAS (about twenty kilometers from downtown Salvador).
A brand-new station (the most modern in Brazil) has just been set up there, accessible by car/taxi/Uber/metro.
Allow for much more transfer time (especially during rush hours), so leave early if you're heading to Chapada Diamantina or other Brazilian cities by bus.
Remember, there are also private transfers (even French-speaking ones) that can take you directly from your hotel in Salvador to your hotel in Chapada. Sure, it’ll be more expensive, but you’ll save on transfer time and comfort.

I’m planning a trip with my partner (no kids this time—thanks, Grandma!) for two weeks to celebrate her 40th birthday. I’ve been thinking about Chile. We’re looking at leaving around September 18, 2027, starting in the south and returning in early April.
Here’s what I had in mind:
8 nights in a van in the Lake District and the start of the Carretera Austral (up to the Chaitén area). We’re set to arrive in Puerto Montt around 2:00 PM. We don’t want to go too far south since we’re planning to explore the heart of Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) with the kids when they’re older. The idea is to spend 3 nights discovering the lakes (up to Cochamó) and 3 nights in Pumalín Park. I’ve also added two transition nights.
7 nights in the Atacama to experience another side of Chile (San Pedro), taking a domestic flight from Puerto Montt to Calama in the early afternoon. We’ll depart for France in the early evening from Santiago.
My partner and I are planning our 3-week trip to Ecuador for the summer of 2027. Yes, we’re getting a head start—we’re planning to visit the Galapagos Islands and want to make the most of our budget.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.
What do you think of this itinerary? Is it doable in 17 days?

02/12: Return to Bogotá via Laguna de Guatavita (5 hrs). Is it worth the detour? Overnight in Bogotá.

After lots of research and quotes, it’s the only one offering Uyuni at a reasonable price while meeting all the criteria: transfer to the border, private-room accommodation, and a very fair rate. Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?
In France, banks don’t issue credit cards, right—or am I mistaken?

I’m desperately looking for info on the schedules and routes of (shared) boats to visit the islands of Lake Titicaca.
From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?
The goal is to do this tour independently (no agency) over 2 days. Thanks for any tips you might have!
I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...
I’ve seen that we can stop over in San Antonio de los Cobres.

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.
