Pour ceux que la mixité de la langue française intéresse, il y a un livre très sympa: L'aventure des mots français venus d'ailleurs de Henriette Walter. On y apprend l'origine de pas mal de mots avec parfois des parcours surprenants.

Normal que tout le monde te pousse à ne pas faire un voyage organisé!!!
Nous avions beaucoup hésité à faire un voyage organisé lorsque nous avons décidé de partir aux USA, mais le choix a été vite vu pour nous!!! Le voyage SOLO s'imposait, nous voulions profiter des parcs pour randonner à max.... Les voyages en bus, à plusieurs, avec les aléas des mecs qui ont oublié leurs passeports ou appareils photos à l'hôtel, quelle horreur (je parle en connaissance de cause : une amie organise ce genre de voyage pour des américains en france!!)
Nous avions pensé à l'auto tour, même principe que le bus sauf que tu as ta voiture perso mais tout ton voyage est organisé et minuté de A à Z (même les pauses pipi!!).
J'avoue qu'on s'était penché à fond là dessus au début, j'ai fait faire des dizaines de devis par des dizaines de TO différents.
CONCLUSION : très cher. Nous avions pris la base d'un circuit TO et nous avons comparé en faisant tout nous même, résultat au lieu de partir 14 jours avec un T0, nous sommes partis 3 semaines avec un budget moindre!!
Tout ça pour dire, que si c'était MON voyage, comme la plupart des personnes ici, je l'organiserais moi même, ton budget suffit largement en te fatiguant un peu à chercher des bons plans sur VF, tripadivor (mon site préféré après VF) et autres comparateurs de vol (ebooker, liligo etc....).
MAIS c'est TON voyage, donc ton choix, sache que si tu décides de te lancer seul dans l'aventure, tout VF sera là pour t'aider!!
PS : fais d'autres devis avec d'autres TO car le voyage que tu nous as cité n'est pas très bien organisé (timing, km, temps de route...), tu as d'autres TO qui peuvent te proposer au même prix des choses mieux et puis ça fait pas de mal de faire jouer la concurrence (voyageurs du monde, equinoxiales, etc...).
Quoi que tu choisisses, ça restera une expérience géniale et tu verras des paysages à couper le souffle!!!

je ne sais pas si un budget d'env 2000€ pour une quinzaine de jours est suffisant ! Un billet d'avion, c'est déjà plus de 1000€ si on le prend maintenant !

parfois tu dois rajouté tous les extras, même l'eau tu dois la payer!
en général le package est très opaque, et tu te rends compte que tu dois en rajouter pas mal à la sortie,

dans le descriptif j'adore:
Le matin, départ pour MONUMENT VALLEY et visite depuis le Visitor Center. (EN OPTION : sortie en jeep avec les indiens Navajos, découverte insolite d'un site grandiose.)
on traduit par visite de la tour Eiffel depuis l'esplanade du Trocadéro , possibilité de monter dans les étages moyennant supplément.
les prix sont tirés au maxi( hôtels loin du centre, ...)il faut bien qu'ils se rattrapent sur qq choses pour faire du bénéfice.

ah non le pire c'est que le gars n'est pas mort DANS Bryce mais DANS le bus ! il est remonté dans le bus après la balade, il s'est assis et puis il est mort... je vous laisse deviner les super démarches à faire ensuite...
j'ai plein d'autres anecdotes : des mamies qui avaient toutes les 2 des vues sur le "papy fringant" du groupe... l'une d'elle par jalousie a été saccagé les affaires de l'autre (genre découpe de ses fringues aux ciseaux)... le shériff est même intervenu au motel... 😄
une autre : un père super excédé par son môme insolent lui colle une baffe (ok c'est pas super cool mais il ne lui a pas démonté la tête non plus...)... un passant ayant vu la scène a appelé la police... le gars a été emmené au poste... et il est passé devant le juge (le tout pendant le circuit !)... il a dû payer une amende et suivre (dans son pays) un stage sur la gestion de la colère...
j'en ai plein d'autres, mais certaines ne sont pas racontables !!!! 😛 😄

* au bout de 2 jours de trek au groenland : "bon les icebergs et tout ca c'est bien mais il me faut une ville et un centre commercial" (le gars a quitté le voyage et est rentré à ses propres frais)
* un autre qui etait tombé dans les buissons et ne pouvait se relever en marchant sur une levadas à madere : pour cause son sac à dos etait rempli de bierre
* le gars qui pete un cable car "le thé pue le porteur " au maroc
* un autre au nepal encore qui envoie les chapatis comme des frisbee car il en a assez d'en avoir à tous les repas
* le gars qui prend 2 matelas en trek car c'est plus confortable

De fait... il s'agit de voyages plein de surprises où tout peux arriver à n'importe quelle minute... quel suspens!...
A leur retour en terre natale, le risque de ne pas souvenir du nom des étapes trop vite survolée, est grand ... mais à côté, les voyageurs avec TO ont la grande chance de pouvoir raconter un épisode "croustillant" ...

😄... hallucinant ! alors qu'on pourrait se dire que ceux qui viennent en trek savent +/- à quoi s'attendre 😮...
pendant notre tour, il y avait un gars qui n'arrêtait pas de se plaindre non stop... du matin au soir... pour tout et surtout pour rien !
un jour pendant une p'tite marche (descente et remontée au Canyon de Chelly), notre guide discute avec lui (on avait tous remarqué qu'il avait un bras un peu invalide)... le gars raconte qu'il a eu un très grave accident de moto et qu'il a failli mourir... notre guide lui dit "ça apprend à relativiser les choses"... le gars "oui tout à fait"... on était juste derrière, il fallu qu'on aille pouffer de rire ailleurs quand notre guide s'est retourné pour cligner de l'oeil...

Je vais dare dare réserver cette BD des Bidochons à la bibliothèque municipale.
La seule anecdote qui me fait encore frémir, c'est notre collègue de voyage abandonné par notre guide au pied des Pyramides car il n'était pas revenu à temps.
Heureusement qu'il avait noté la prochaine étape, Memphis (pas Tennessee pour les petits plaisantins de VF) car il nous a rejoints en taxi.
Nous étions tous soulagés, nous n'avions pas pu retenir le bus.

Cela nous est arrivé, ainsi qu'à 2 autres couples de Français, à Tunis, ou plutôt à Sousse, non pas lors d'un voyage organisé, mais d'une "excursion organisée" lors d'une croisière.
Arrivés dans le joli petit village de Sousse, et après nous avoir fait sa propagande pendant deux heures et nous avoir emmenés chez ses copains vendeurs de souvenirs, notre "guide" nous a fait monter la rue "principale" de Sousse pour aller voir un marchand de tapis ! Nous avons refusé, ainsi que les deux autres couples, disant que nous n'en avions rien à faire des tapis et que nous voulions voir le village. Ca ne lui a pas plu, "vous devez être de retour dans 45 minutes !". On a parcouru le village au pas de course, littéralement. Sans les autres couples, chacun étant parti de son côté. A l'heure dite, nous étions au point de rendez-vous, les 3 couples, et plus de bus. Nous l'avons vu passer de l'autre côté de l'avenue et avons dû courir derrière pour qu'il s'arrête... Ceux qui l'ont suivi n'ont rien vu de Sousse. Honteux. J'ai fait un rapport musclé à Costa, et je me suis encore engueulée avec ce c** de guide au musée. Il m'a complètement gâché la journée, je n'en retiens rien, si ce n'est sa propagande et son machisme. Je me dis que si le guide est comme ça pendant un séjour de 2 semaines, ça peut carrément foutre des vacances en l'air... 😕
Lors du voyage organisé au Vietnam, on a aussi eu droit à de la propagande de la part de certains guides (les guides "officiels" sont obligatoires). La guide belge qui accompagnait tempérait les propos. Nous avons visité énormément de sites au pas de course. J'en garde une énorme frustration. Mais il est vrai que nous avons aussi eu de sacrés fous rires et des moments très sympas avec les autres voyageurs. Pour l'anecdote, car j'ai lu ça plus haut : une fois les places prises le premier jour, on n'en a plus bougé ! Et comme c'était un TO belge, les néerlandophones s'étaient spontanément mis au fond, et les francophones à l'avant. Avec quelques rangées entre. (on devait être une trentaine en tout) C'était bien avant les problèmes de gouvernement etc. Assez symptômatique.
Ce que je n'ai pas aimé dans ce voyage : les visites au pas de course et souvent au plus mauvais moment, les pourboires élevés (nous avons eu plein de guides + la Belge, et plusieurs chauffeurs. Au total, quelque chose comme 400 euros de pourboires pour nous deux), le sentiment de ne pas retenir grand-chose du voyage, si ce n'est d'avoir des souvenirs de paysages magnifiques, car je ne me le suis pas "approprié" avant de partir.
Ce que j'ai aimé : le pays bien sûr (raison pour laquelle beaucoup de gens reviennent souvent contents des voyages organisés : les lieux découverts sont toujours magnifiques), l'excellent rapport qualité/prix, la facilité (le Vietnam, ce n'est pas les USA), les hôtels qui étaient vraiment bien, et le groupe, très sympa. Enfin, l'avant du bus quoi. (j'plaisante ! 😛)

After that, we’re heading to Sherbrooke to visit our daughter, who’s studying at the university there. We’ll spend 3 days with her, and then, since she has a break that week, we’re taking her along for 3 days in Quebec City.
We’ve planned to visit Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans.
I’d love to hear what route you’d recommend for the drive from Sherbrooke to Quebec City—we’ll have the whole day to take it easy.

Classic itinerary: arrival in Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, Vancouver Island, departure from Vancouver.
I know you can’t see into the future any better than I can, so I’m obviously not asking what the wildfire situation will be like in a month...
But if any of you could let me know if, CURRENTLY, there are major difficulties—not just for locals, of course, but for tourists as well?
We’re hesitating between taking the chance or canceling what we still can.
We’re not young anymore and don’t have the flexibility we once did...

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Just a little post that might interest some of you:
Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
