Je suis étudiante et je pars faire un stage de 4 mois à Los Angeles sur West Pico Blvd de février à juin.
J'avais le choix entre aller à Londres ou à L.A., j'ai pas mal hésité mais je me suis dit que Londres était quand même beaucoup plus proche de la France et que j'aurai sans doute plus souvent l'occasion d'y aller qu'à Los Angeles.
J'ai déjà deux amies sur place qui font leur propre stage, mais j'ai quand même voulu me renseigner de moi-même sur la vie là-bas. J'ai été un peu déçue voire effrayée des commentaires que j'ai pu lire (pas de transports, rien à faire, dangereux...) et j'aimerais avoir quelques avis positifs qui me reboosteront et me redonneront envie d'y aller. :) Si quelqu'un y est déjà allé, j'aimerais qu'il partage son expérience avec moi, qu'il me donne de bons plans, des idées de choses à faire ou à visiter (autre que les fameux Hollywood Blvd, Universal Studios, etc), des autres villes accessibles pour un éventuel roadtrip.
Aussi quelques infos pratiques : je sais que j'en aurai à peu près pour 600-700 dollars au niveau du loyer dans le quartier de mon stage (West L.A., Wilshire...), au niveau du repas et des potentiels déplacements, sorties, combien devrais-je dépenser par mois environ (budget étudiant bien sûr) ?
J'ai lu que L.A. n'était pas vraiment une bonne ville pour vivre, mais j'aimerais savoir si l'on disait ça pour les gens qui souhaitaient s'y installer définitivement ou si c'est valable pour les gens comme moi qui n'y vont que quelques mois.

Alors pour essayé de te remonté le moral sache que tu auras d'office des critiques de gens... Pour certaines personnes Los Angeles n'a rien à voir avec ce qu'on pensait car on se base trop sur les séries, c'est une ville comme toute les autres c'est à dire : des SDF ( venice beach en autrres ), des quartiers chauds, des superbes endroits à visité, de superbe activités et plein d'autres truc.
Moi quand j'ai été a Los Angeles on m'a déconseillé L.A, tout le monde me disait pourquoi pas San Francisco ? Et sache que quand j'y ai été c'était franchement le pied. Les gens sont sympas là-bas et tu trouves toujours de quoi, MAIS pendant 1 voir 2 semaines après c'est le problème.
Si tu veux continué a t'amuser durant les 4 mois tu dois quitté Los Angeles en autres pour San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Las Vegas, ... car tu sens très vite la routine si tu reste à L.A mais le problème c'est que tu n'as pas de voiture donc tu dois presque a chaque fois prendre un vol car sinon tu devras resté à L.A mais ne t'en fais pas tu t'amuseras quand même. Même sans voiture tu sais beaucoup surtout en 4 mois. Universal Studios a son arrêt sur la Red Line par exemple, tu as le bus qui te conduis à Santa Monica ou a Venice Beach et j'en passe encore. Les gens qui te disent c'est impossible soit ils n'ont jamais été à L.A soit c'était il y a plusieurs années.
concernant ton budget là faut voir ce que tu seras en faire. Moi j'ai été pendant 2 semaines et j'ai dépensé environ 2500€ alors que m'a cousine n'a dépensé que 1000€ en 1 mois donc tu vois faut voir quoi ... Niveau repas tu sais trouvé quelque fast food ou même buffet à volonté pour une dizaine de $. Au niveau activités tu as des truc gratuit mais pas beaucoup sinon tu as divers passes pour les attractions et sa diminue ton prix quand même ( city pass pour 59$ et le southern california city pass ( si tu comptes vouloir faire universal-disney-sea world-san diego zoo ou safari et lui te coûtes une histoire de 200-250$ je sais plus vraiment )
Question immigré à L.A là tout le monde pense ce qu'il veut, on va te dire que c'est une ville pour allé en vacances et non pour rester vivre, d'autres comme moi te diront que oui tu sais y vivre si tu calcule bien ton coup et en acceptant déja mentalement qu'il y a des risques comme dans tout autres pays. Au pire des cas je suis là si tu d'autres questions, mais ne t'inquiète pas Los Angeles est magique ... Désolé si les gens ne sont pas d'accord mais ceux qui critique L.A c'est soit car vous n'aimez pas L.A tout simplement soit car vous avez vu trop de série soit car vous n'avez pas encore été à L.A. Enfin pour te dire que si L.A est rêve tu ne seras pas déçu
Hello, je débarque ! (oui, c'est moi le chanceux qui vit à LA depuis 2 ans !!)
Honnêtement, LA, pour visiter en tant que touriste, je comprends que l'on n'aime pas (et encore...), mais pour y vivre, c'est parfait.
Il y a une vie culturelle phénoménale à LA avec plein de musées gratuits ou pas loin. Il y a des montagnes tout autour et même un peu dans la ville et en une demi heure, tu passes de la foule et des bagnoles à la quiétude d'un petit chemin de rando... Si tu veux aller plus loin et plus haut, il y a des montagnes qui grimpent jusqu'à 3000m (la photo de mon profil, c'est sur le chemin pour y aller !).
Ensuite, LA est une ville qui a plein de facettes différentes, parfois juste à côté. De Venice à Malibu en passant par Downtown et Beverly Hills. Et chaque ville/quartier a son petit centre ville qui a son charme.
Depuis 2 ans que l'on y est, on a encore des idées d'endroits ou de balades que l'on souhaite découvrir...
Et puis il fait toujours beau et les gens sont trèèès sympas et ça, c'est cool !
Si tu vis dans le quartier de West Hollywood, c'est un chouette quartier toujours animé (quartier gay) et coloré.

Non, sérieux, LA à vivre, c'est trop top. J'y ai passé un mois (seulement😕) pour le travail, et c'était absolument parfait.
Avec une voiture, c'est mieux, mais tu rencontreras sûrement, forcément (il n'y a que ça 😉), des gens sympas 😎 qui te feront découvrir cette ville lumineuse, où il fait effectivement toujours beau. 😎

Connaissez-vous le quartier de Westwood ? Je compte trouver un logement là-bas car mon maître de stage me l'a conseillé ! Qu'en pensez-vous ? Est-ce un quartier animé / sympathique ?
En ce moment je galère pas mal pour le visa parce que l'organisme où je fais mon stage ne peut pas me fournir une des pièces indispensables du dossier de demande de visa qui est le formulaire DS-2019. J'ai vu sur le site de l'ambassade des USA qu'il fallait contacter un organisme sponsor pour se le procurer mais leurs services me semblent hors de prix et ça a l'air de prendre pas mal de temps, plusieurs semaines minimum (or je dois faire mon visa le plus rapidement possible étant donné que je pars fin février). Savez-vous si ce formulaire peut être remplacé par la convention de stage ? Et sinon connaissez-vous de bons organismes sponsors ? Comment se fait-il que ce soit si cher (j'ai vu pour America Welcome par exemple : presque 700 euros pour 4 mois de stage !) ? On doit payer ces services + la taxe SEVIS + les frais de visa + le billet d'avion + la vie sur place ? Il faut être très riche pour étudier aux USA... !
Non, je n'ai pas ces informations... Je peux te dire en revanche que le DS2019 est indispensable. Il représente vis à vis des autorités d'immigration US, la preuve que ta présence sur le territoire est légale.

Me conseillez-vous d'habiter dans un quartier animé comme Westwood qui est à 30 minutes en bus de mon stage ou de choisir un logement plus proche du lieu de mon stage quitte à ce que ce soit un quartier moins vivant ? Pour l'instant je penche pour la première solution... Le réseau de bus fonctionne t-il bien à West LA ? 30 minutes de transport ça doit être la moyenne pour la plupart des habitants !
Ton stage est sur W Pico plutôt vers downtown ?
Les employés de la boîte où je travaillais à Culver City venaient pour la plupart de banlieues plus ou moins lointaines, et beaucoup avaient 2h de voiture matin et soir. 🤪 Comme des Parisiens, en gros. 🏴☠️

After living for many years in the West (Belgium, Italy, Switzerland),
I’ve decided to return and settle in Cameroon, my home country.
Currently an entrepreneur in real estate and transport, I’m looking for a partner / partners / foundation to collaborate on an agriculture project, as I own 10 hectares of land.
The hectares have remained unused for years due to a lack of financial means, since the project requires what I’d call a considerable investment. As the main stakeholder, I have a minimal contribution to offer.

If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
