Pour info : La gratuité du renouvellement de passeport français encore valide n'est valable à condition qu'il ne reste "UN SEUL FEUILLET" dans le passeport sinon il faut payer un timbre fiscal de 60 euros (2x30), à moins que vous aviez la preuve insuffisant de feuillet exemple : pour effectuer le tour du monde etc...
On peut faire le renouvellement à l'étranger auprès de consulat, il vous délivra un nouveau passeport valable 1 an et c'est gratuit s'il est encore valide (à vérifier en ce qui concerne la gratuité !).
étant partis deux ans, notre passeport presque plein (restait 3 feuillets) nous avons fait renouveller notre passeport à l'ambassade de Namibie, nous avons obtenu un nouveau passeport électronique, la date de validité de notre premier passeport a été conservé (2014), mais car il y a toujours un mais, lors du renouvellement de notre passeport, la secrétaire a voulu d'une adresse en Namibie (la Guesthouse), et donc maintenant comme nous allons repartir, la préfecture va nous refaire un nouveau passeport (même validité) avec notre nouvelle adresse (c'est à dire notre adresse en France) et normalement c'est gratuit...
mais dans une autre Ambassade (en afrique du Sud) la secrétaire nous a dit que dans les textes et décrets, il pouvait (et devait) nous conserver notre adresse en France. (délai entre 2 et 4 semaines)
Faut pas confondre: Les passeports valides un an ou 6 mois sont des passeport d'urgence delivres a tout ressortissent Francais par les consulats en cas de pertes ou de vols.
Les renouvellements ou prolongations de passeport 'pleins' sont reserves aux residents dument inscrits sur les liste consulairss

Il me restait un seul feuillet libre sur mon passeport valable jusqu'en 2013. Un nouveau passeport m'a été fait GRATUITEMENT par le consulat de France à HCMC, Vietnam en 3 semaines et avec la même validité. Ils ont collés les deux passeports pour que mes visas Vietnam et Inde soient bons. En passant la douane hier en quittant le Vietnam je me suis fait arrété. Le visa VN doit être sur le nouveau passeport et pas sur l'ancien. Cout : 30 minutes en salle de police et 10$. Bon à savoir !

Justificatifs demandés par le consulat : extrait de naissance de moins de 3 mois, 2 photos et remplir un formulaire. Ils imposent aussi de s'inscrire sur la liste consulaire, ça ne coute rien et ça ne sert à rien non plus sinon de vous fliquer (ils adorent ça dans l'administration française !). Après, pour éviter le désagrément que j'ai connu peut-être il faudrait aller au service de l'immigration du pays pour faire reporter le visa sur le nouveau passeport. mais ce n'est pas sur. Au VN comme dans beaucoup de pays dits "en voie de développement" on est toujours à la merci d'un fonctionnaire qui a envie de se faire un petit pourboire, surtout en fin de mois j'ai remarqué...Pour cela toujours emporter avec soi des coupures de 5, 10 et 20 $. Surtout pas d'Euros. Bon voyage tout de même.

C'est à vous que ça rend service, la preuve, vous pouvez vous faire refaire un passeport, une carte d'identité si besoin ; dans les pays où "ça chauffe", ça permet de prévenir les ressortissants français en cas de besoin, ça vous permet de voter, de recevoir des invitations si ça vous intéresse...
L'administration a autre chose à faire que de fliquer ses administrés, il ne faut pas toujours juger gratuitement et négativement.

Un ami proche de nationalité française séjournant en Thailande pour 3 mois a cru bon d'obéir à l'ambassade de France de Bangkok et s'est inscrit sur la liste consulaire. Son nom est parvenu (devinez par quel canal) aux services fiscaux français qui l'ont alors considéré comme expatrié, ce qu'il n'était pas. Pour eux le fait d'être inscrit sur les listes consulaires était la preuve qu'il était résident du pays d'expatriation (car seuls les résidents y sont inscrits pas les voyageurs) et en conséquence ils l'ont passé au régime fiscal expatrié. Ils ont sucré son PEA dans la foulée puisque un expatrié n'a pas la droit de détenir un PEA. La Sécurité Sociale (prévenue par qui ?) lui a refusé un remboursement de dentiste au pretexte qu'il était résident en Thailande et devait s'inscrire à la CFE.Il a mis deux ans pour prouver sa bonne foi et se faire rétablir dans ses droits.

Quant aux invitations de l'Ambassade vous me faites rire...Celle du 14 juillet est de droit pour les détenteurs de passeports français quant aux autres "sauteries" consulaires et bal chez le Gouverneur, il suffit de demander.
Pour l'évacuation d'urgence il faut avertir Sarkozy et il ne se déplacera que si les médias viennent avec lui.
Mais vous ne parlez pas de la (non) assistance des ambassades et consulats de France dans le cas de problème d'un citoyen français avec la justice d'un pays étranger (guilty or not guilty). Particulièrement inéfficace et d'un inutilité notoire. J'ai plusieurs cas, dont le mien, à vous raconter.

Exact, chaque pays est souverain mais chaque pays a aussi l'obligation de s'occuper de ses ressortissants lorsqu'ils sont en danger à l'étranger.
On voit aujourd"hui l'action efficace du Gouvernement français pour aider les membres de l'Ache de Zoé ou ce jeune garçon violé à Dubaï (grace surtout à l'activisme intelligent de ses parents aussi).
Le problème est lorsque un citoyen français ordinaire, dont le cas n'intéresse pas les médias ou le Gouvernement, a des problèmes avec la justice ou la police dans un pays de non-droit ou de droit approximatif ou à géométrie variable. Il se trouve soudain face à une police ou une justice, souvent corrompues, qui le prend en otage et le rançonne, lui ou sa famille ou sa société. Je parle bien sur de litiges où le citoyen français est de bonne foi ou erreur judiciaire, faux aveu, victime de faux témoignage ou chantage.
Hors cas médiatisé il faut remarquer que le travail des ambassades et des consulats est très compliqué et pas toujours trés efficace. Ils estiment avoir une obligation de moyens mais pas de résultat, même si les raisons avancés par eux peuvent paraître légitimes. Il y a souvent de la part de ces ambassades un désir de ne pas attaquer frontalement les pays qui les accueuillent et souvent le cas d'un citoyen "ordinaire" est peu de choses face à des interets économiques importants par exemple pour ne pas parler d'interets politiques. Dans ce cas l'Etat passe avant le citoyen.
Depuis dix ans j'ai pu observer en Inde, Thailande, Cambodge, Laos et Vietnam des cas troublants où des français pris dans une histoire qui ne les concernaient pas directement ou même pas du tout ont été mis en cause, emprisonnés, jugés, condamnés, toujours rançonnés.
Le voyageur, l'expatrié français doit savoir qu'à tout moment sa vie et celle de sa famille peut basculer dans l'horreur et qu'il se retrouvera seul face à une justice ou une police dont il ne connait pas les lois, les usages et les codes.
J'ai d'ailleurs l'intention de lancer un forum pour collecter tous ces cas de par le monde et voir comment on pourrait mettre en place une organisation pour leur venir en aide.
Peut-être on peut commencer ici et maintenant ?

Je manque d'informations pour prouver que c'est faux, mais je vais chercher des éléments pour éclairer ce point.. De mémoire il y avait un vieux projet dit "Safari" élaboré sous Giscard et qui avait été enterré sous les protestations de juristes, associations et citoyens. Ayant besoin d'une authentification de signature par un consulat (donc pas Ambassade BKK) pour un acte notarié en France on lui a expliqué que l'un (acte administraif) n'allait pas sans l'autre (inscription liste). Mais peut-être a-t-il mal compris...La chaleur humide ramollit le cerveau.

The flight I’ve spotted: arrival at BKK and return to France 31 days later.
With the new regulations/visa:
"Starting September 15, 2026, French nationals holding an ordinary passport will be able to stay in Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism purposes only, down from the previous 60 days."
How do you think the counting is done?
- Number of days spent in Thai territory?

I’m planning a trip from France to Alberta/British Columbia, and I’m unsure about which bank card to use for the security deposit with the rental company (I’m thinking of going with AVIS).
I contacted Avis Canada, and they told me a credit card is absolutely required. I asked my bank for a credit card (a *real* credit card), but they only offered me a deferred debit card.
My question: For a rental with Avis Canada, is a Gold International Mastercard deferred debit card usable for the security deposit needed to finalize the rental? Is the "CREDIT" label enough? (Some cards say "CREDIT" and others say "CARTE DE CREDIT"—seems minor, but it’s actually a big deal in how the card works.)
I’ve seen conflicting info everywhere I look... My bank says it’s *usually* okay (the deferred debit card), while Avis Canada insists it *must* be a credit card, not debit—even when I mention the deferred debit card.
I know the whole credit card concept is already confusing, and on top of that, some sites say a deferred debit card counts as a credit card, while others say it doesn’t.

I’ll explain my situation.
Unfortunately, I lost my passport, and I only realized it two weeks before my departure for a humanitarian mission in Libya. I’m a nurse, and this mission really means a lot to me.
First, I applied for an emergency passport, but it was denied by the Val-d'Oise prefecture on the grounds that a planned humanitarian mission wasn’t considered an urgent reason.
So, I submitted a biometric passport application on July 20th. Since then, the tracking has been stuck, and the town hall can’t (or won’t) give me any clear information. Every time I call, I get a different story. The last update I received was that the passport had been produced since July 23rd with a status of "about to be shipped," but nothing since then.
I’ve managed to push my departure back to next Tuesday at the latest, but I’m starting to really panic.
Have any of you submitted an application around July 20th, especially in Val-d'Oise (95)? How long did you wait between the passport being produced and it being available at the town hall? Is it normal for this step to take this long?
This mission means so much to me. I had everything organized, and I’m also supposed to attend a friend’s wedding right after near the border.

I’m a bit embarrassed because I need to travel to Quebec from February 27th to March 13th. I’m a regular visitor to Canada—this will be my 10th trip since 1997, plus a year as a permanent resident (2000–2001) and a cross-country run from Vancouver to Halifax in 2011. So, I’m definitely not a terrorist!
But since our last trip in July 2015, they’ve introduced this eTA thing. Seems more like a way to make money than to actually secure Canada, if you ask me, but anyway, that’s not the point.
I applied for an eTA for myself, my wife, and our two kids. They all got approved within hours, but not me! I was asked to create a GC key and then an IRCC account, which I did. Normally, you get news within 72 hours, but since Monday, January 15th, nothing!
In the "message" section of the account, it says "explanation letter (required)" with a deadline of January 25th, but I can’t find any explanation anywhere—despite searching the Canadian government website and Google. No links, nothing!
I’ve emailed them but haven’t heard back yet. I’m thinking of calling the Canadian embassy in Paris tomorrow. Even though I’m not stressing yet, it’d be a bummer if everyone else got to go without me!
If anyone’s had this issue before or knows what this explanation letter is about, I’d love to hear more.

I’ve tried my hotel, the Lotte Hotel (which is well-known in Seoul), the airport—basically, I’ve entered at least 20 addresses, all rejected....

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April.
My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date.
Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry.
However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).
It's an individual family trip.
The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)
Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht).
This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea?

As a French national, I need to obtain a short-stay visa that can be converted to a long-stay one. To do this, I have to send the required documents to the Madagascar embassy in Paris.
No issues with that procedure so far.
If I get this visa, once I arrive in Madagascar, I’ll need to provide the same documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Anosy. I’m trying to find an email address or website for the Ministry to check which documents I need to submit (I think they ask for additional ones).

I’d like to know if anyone has already applied for a private visa to Russia with an invitation from a Russian resident.
I traveled earlier this year with an e-visa, but since I want to stay longer, I’ll be visiting my friend who lives in eastern Russia.
For the visa application, does the invitation need to be on an official paper form issued by the Russian ministry? And most importantly, do I need to present the original for the application, or is there an electronic version that can be sent directly to the consulate in France?

I filled out the B2 form to apply for a visa, created an account on Atvis to pay the visa fees and schedule a meet-up, but every time I try to pay with my Boursobank Visa 1st card, they refuse the payment with a message telling me to check my details (address), even though everything is correct. Does anyone know why this is happening, or maybe they don’t accept Visa cards? Are you aware of this?
