Pour 2019, on projette d'aller à Havasupai. J'ai voulu tester le nouveau système de réservation ici. Et c'est là que les problèmes commencent...
Il y a tous les tarifs détaillés, mais impossible de faire une simulation réelle, parce que toutes les dates 2018 sont prises. Et j'aurais aimé avoir une idée des tarifs qui ont l'air de s'envoler 🤪 avant le 1er février prochain.
Avant, j'avais en tête que ça coûtait environ 52$ par personne et par jour en camping (35$ de droit d'entrée +17$ camping), soit pour nous 5 : 520 $ pour 2 jours/1 nuit ou 780 $ pour 3 jours/2 nuit. Et je partais dans l'idée de choisir la formule 2 jours/1 nuit parce que le coût était proportionnel au nombre de jours sur place, avec une remontée le 2e jour vers 16h pour optimiser le temps sur place.
Avec le nouveau système, si j'ai bien compris, ça serait donc :
En mode camping :
« One Person, 2 Days / 1 Night: $140.56
One Person, 3 Days / 2 Nights: $171.12
One Person, 4 Days / 3 Nights: $201.67 »
Supplément vendredi-samedi ou dimanche : « an additional $18.34 per night »
Soit pour nous (on aura le supplément dimanche en début de trip) :
2 Days / 1 Night : 159 x 5 = 794 $ (soit une hausse de 50%)3 Days / 2 Nights : 189,50 x 5 = 947 $ (soit une hausse de 20%)
En mode camping, on peut rajouter l'option "mule" à 132 $ pour la remontée, pour que les enfants n'aient pas à porter leur sac. On n'est plus à 130 balles près !
Si j'ai bien compris ces tarifs sont valables en mode camping (350 campeurs autorisés). Et si on veut dormir dans une chambre, il y aurait en plus un supplément de 175 $ par nuit (+90 $ pour la 5e personne), soit un surcoût de 265 $ par nuit.
Je vérifie que je sois bien assis en écrivant : si on n'est pas équipé en matériel camping et qu'on veut séjourner au "lodge" dont on lit le plus grand bien dans les carnets 🏴☠️, le séjour de 3 jours/2 nuits à 5 nous coûterait donc 947 + 530 = 1487 $ ?? 🏴☠️ 😠
Avec de tels tarifs, c'est camping obligatoire pour nous, et même là, la question se pose ! 😠
Avec le nouveau système de tarification, le séjour 3 jours/2 nuit ne nous coûterait que 150 $ de plus que celui de 2 jours/1 nuit. Cela inciterait donc à rester 3 jours...
Si quelqu'un a pu tester ce système avant que les dates 2018 ne soient complètes , suis-je dans le vrai ? Et y a t-il un tarif enfant ou famille nombreuse (je sais que je rêve) 😏 ?
Le pire dans tout ça, c'est que les tarifs sont pas assez chers, et vont continuer à flamber puisque les places 2018 sont déjà toutes vendues...
Alors en fait, j'y vais en Août :) Le mois prochain, je reste dans l'Utah :) 😇
Mais oui, les prix sont bien ceux que tu cites !! Cela fait des années que j'essaye d'y aller et depuis 2 ans, les prix ont flambé !
Pour réserver pour 2019, il faudra que tu sois sur le site à l'heure d'ouverture des inscriptions car cette année, en 1h15 tout l'année était complet ! On a eu chaud ! Ou pas car vu le prix, c'est bien loin de nos voyages à petits budgets !!
Pour nous, 1 nuit de camping pour 2 avec permis taxes : 226.91euros + 5.44e de frais bancaires ! Donc pour 5, on arrive un peu près à ton calcul ! 🤪
Je suis contente d'y aller mais moi qui déteste être au milieu de la foule, me retrouver en bas avec 400 autres personnes : je ne sais pas si nous allons apprécier le lieu à sa juste valeur... Réponse en Août...

Vu la faible différence de prix, j'étais tenté de partir sur 3 jours / 2 nuits, mais j'attendrai ton retour de cet été pour avoir ton ressenti, car j'appréhende aussi le fait de me retrouver à 400 répartis sur 3 chutes. Et je ne voudrais pas passer une journée de trop.
Au printemps, c'est la saison idéale pour les photographes car l'eau est trop fraîche pour s'y baigner, mais en été, ça risque d'être une autre histoire pour avoir des photos sympas... 🤪 Au moins, on pourra s'y baigner 😎 !
Passer 2 nuits aurait l'avantage de passer 24 heures tranquilles pour que les enfants puissent récupérer et être en forme pour les 16 km et D850 de remontée, surtout qu'on randonnera chargés avec les affaires de camping.
Le 2e jour, vous envisagez de remonter tôt le matin ou en fin d'après-midi ?

On compte partir très tôt le 1er matin pour la descente, histoire de la faire à la fraîche et d'arriver sur place très tôt. Comme cela on aura une journée pour profiter et s'éloigner le plus possible. On compte ensuite remonter à la fraîche aussi. On jaugera en fonction du temps que la descente nous a pris et si on juge qu'au final la veille on est parti trop tôt/ trop tard. Mais on partira de sûr avant le lever du soleil.
Avec des enfants, je ne pense pas que sur 2 nuits tu es une "journée de trop". Cela sera éprouvant pour eux, surtout avec la chaleur.
Par contre, rapelle toi d'une chose : en Août, saison de Mousson et des flash floods. Pour notre part, si on doit annuler : c'est 100$ de perdu. Je ne sais pas pour 5 et sur 2 jours à combien s'élevera le montant de l'annulation.
Pour notre part, on est content d'avoir enfin eu des places alors qu'on essaye depuis 2014 mais qu'on regrette que cela soit devenu une plate forme touristique alors que d'habitude nous fuyons les endroits comme cela... :(

Début Mai 2015 je me suis baigné sans probleme à Havasupai 😎 eau très agréable j'ai trouvé (et pourtant je suis plutôt frileux quand il faut se baigner)
Effectivement belle période pour y descendre et y remonter - Le camping est des plus sommaires ... y'a rien quoi ... sauf le lieu évidement AMAZING !!! juste un point d'eau pour remplir ses gourdes, il commençait à y avoir des indiens qui vendaient quelques boissons sous de gdes tentes .... Les nuits peuvent être assez fraiches à cette période, et j'ai regretté de n'avoir pas pris de matelas pour dormir sous ma tente ... dur dur ...
Par contre difficile de trouver une place pour se garer ... chacun se garant comme il peut, et pourtant y'avais pas mal de place dispo pour planter sa tente en bas
Le trail n'est pas bien compliqué pour un marcheur lambda (juste le début de la descente ou il faut faire attention à ses chevilles car bien caillouteux ... sinon RAS)
J'aurais voulu y retourner cette année ... mais quand j'ai vu les nouveaux tarifs ... du foutage de gueule je trouve ...

Tidju vient de faire un retour sur un autre post et parle d'affluence modérée alors que c'est censé être complet. Et vu les tarifs, ça m'étonnerait qu'il y ait des gens ayant réservé qui ne descendent pas à cause de la pluie.
Il y a toutes les chances pour qu'on passe une 2e nuit sur place pour bien récupérer (aller peut-être jusqu'à Beaver Falls où on sera tranquille) et remonter à 5h du mat comme vous. 😉
Et pour les flash flood, on allumera un cierge...

Havasupai, c'est comme Antelope Canyon, on va les visiter 5 ans trop tard : 30% d'augmentation en 1 an. 😠 Quand on voit qu'on paie autant que pour aller 3 jours à Disneyland, c'est sûr, ça fait rager...

Mais c'est vrai que la hausse des prix est halluciante ! En Avril dernier, le prix du permis pour Waterhole Canyon était passé de 5$ à 12$ ! JE n'imagine même pas dans 5 ans... 🤪

Je me faisais la réflexion que les 350 à 400 personnes qui avaient réservé devaient forcément se trouver en bas du canyon, même s'il pleuvait (mais sans aller jusqu'au flash flood).
En y repensant, si tous les randonneurs ayant réservé sur 2 jours/1 nuit (une majorité) quittent les lieux tôt le matin du 2e jour, ça ne fait donc plus que la moitié sur site chaque après-midi... 😏 d'où cette impression ressentie par Olivier (tidju)

La semaine dernière, j'ai un pote qui partait pour passer 10 jours à Las Vegas. Il était déjà 4 fois en Californie, et n'avait jamais franchi la frontière californienne, excepté pour aller à Vegas. A force de lui faire la pub du plateau du Colorado, j'ai réussi à le convaincre de passer 4-5 jours pour découvrir Bryce, Zion, Page et le Grand Canyon. Mardi dernier, il a effectué la 1ère visite du matin à Lower antelope: ils étaient 8... de quoi faire rêver les juilletistes que nous sommes pour certains.
Je lui avais mis Yant Flat, Yellow Rock, et Wire pass - Buckskin Gulch - WCB - Edmaiers sur le GPS, et il n'a même pas eu le temps de les faire (il a juste vu les photos de VF)... Depuis qu'il est rentré il ne rêve que de retourner dans ce secteur 😏.
Y serais bien retourné aussi ... mais là ... faut pas pousser !!! surtout qu'en fait c'est un camping sauvage qui ne dit pas son nom sans rien (ce qui est pas plus mal finalement)

En Mai 2015, La veille à partir de HAVASU LAKE en passant par OATMAN pour dormir à KINGMAN j'ai eu le déluge tout le long .... Le lendemain matin il tombait des cordes ... je me suis posé la question d'y aller et j'ai longuement hésité - je me suis dit que ça serait trop bête d'annuler maintenant ... j'y suis allé et pendant une heure j'ai eu de la flotte de chez flotte - 🤪
Arrivé au parking, comme c'était bondé de chez bondé je me suis décidé à y aller (vide ... j'aurais fait demi tour) j'ai préparé mon sac seulement à ce moment là, car la veille au soir je m'étais dit "c'est rappé" et n'avais rien préparé du coup
Ensuite temps nuageux tout le tps du trail et soleil en arrivant ... et j'ai eu droit à mes eaux turquoises et ces chutes magnifiques malgré la météo pourrie la veille et quelques heures avant. 😎
Pour ANTELOPE, je l'ai fait un matin en plein mois d'Aout 2013 SANS RESERVATION avec femme et enfants - Y'avais du monde, mais on est passé tres rapidement. Je suis resté dans les derniers et une fois en bas, je me suis "planqué" ... j'ai pu faire des photos sans personne en plein mois d'Aout (y'avais juste 2 espagnols qui avaient fait comme moi" 😛

C'est vrai que l'année passée, lors de mon Road Trip en solo en Avril, j'ai été gaté niveau couleurs, températures, et l'explosion de fleurs et de bébés animaux tout partout ! C'est ce qui m'a donné envie d'y repartir à cette période. Avant je partais plutôt en Mai.

Petit retour d'expérience qui date un peu mais bon, il te sera peut être utile. C'est un excellent plan de rester 2 nuits car en fait, le matin, il n'y personne et tu as les chutes rien que pour toi en effet. Les randonneurs de la veille remontent et ceux du jour ne sont pas arrivés. Par contre l'après midi il y a beaucoup de monde ! Je te recommande vraiment de passer de nuits, c'est vraiment loin d'être trop et autant amortir le coût qui est devenu délirant !!! De mémoire, j'y suis allée il y a 5 ans, peut être même 8. On ne payait clairement pas ce coût ! Quant au monde, à l'époque cela ne m'avait pas posé de problème car justement j'avais profité des chutes le matin et exploré l'après midi (et il faut dire que tout le monde se concentre au même endroit. A l'époque, le camping était complet, mais je ne connais pas la capacité de l'époque, 400 ou moins.
Au sujet des risques de flash flood, c'est un peu chaud de descendre en cas de risque fort. Je ferai comme toi Laetitia. Par contre, je trouve cela assez scandaleux qu'il n'y ait pas de raincheck policy et cela d'autant plus que des personnes risques de prendre des risques inconsidérés juste car cela fout les boules de rater Havasupai et de ne pas être remboursé. En tout état de cause, rappelons que l'eau ne sera en effet pas turquoise mais boueuse. C'est de suite moins fun !

J'ai regardé mes cptes de 2015 - à l'époque à Havasupai pour 2 nuits en Camping j'avais payé SUR PLACE pour 1 personne : $81.40 (même pas besoin à l’époque de donner son Nr de carte par tph lors de la réservation)

Au niveau tarif Havasupai , ça devient n'importe quoi. En 2012 je devais y aller, mais le site a été détruit par la rupture d'un barrage . J'avais prévu d'y aller , mais ce tarif , ils vont se faire voir . L'année dernière je voulais faire Antélope Canyon mi mai, il y avait un monde fou et plus de place dispo sauf pour le lendemain à 16h pour 80$, là aussi ils vont se faire voir.
J'ai regardé tes photos de ton voyage avec tes enfants : pour une 1ere fois, tu as fait du lourd ! Tes enfants avaient l'air de bien randonner ! Bravo à eux !

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

- Joshua Tree National Park

- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.

The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
