Je pars ds qques semaines aux Philippines pour 15 jours, grace au forum et vos messages j 'ai deja trouvé enormement d'infos.
Par contre je lis un peu tout et son contraire sur El Nido, qu en est il vraiment ?
Est ce devenu touristique ? Est ce que ca vaut vraiment le coup ? Apparemment il commence à yavoir des rabatteurs vers hotels etc... la plage est crade aussi apparemment ? Ce n'est en fait qu 'un lieu pour dormir et le vrai attrait est dans les tours en bateau si j'ai bien compris ?
Tout ca me fait un peu hesiter sur mon parcours.
Pour l'instant je pensais faire Coron puis El Nido sur 1 grosse semaine et finir les 5 derniers jours vers Apo pour plonger.
Mais j'hesite pour El Nido maintenant et me demande si je vais pas plutot aller vers bantayan à la place
Bantayan est une ile très agréable, nous y étions en 2009 : magnifiques grandes plages idéales pour la baignade, pas trop de monde, population très sympa, on s'y sent vraiment en vacances et les prix sont très abordables.
Nous y retournons en mai de cette année, pour les familles avec enfants c'est le top.
Je ne suis jamais allé sur Palawan (surement un jour...) donc je ne saurai pas comparer les 2 destinations.

je ne mets pas en doute ce qui a été dit sur el nido, j'en suis même triste et déçu car je voulais toujours y aller
bantayan est reputée magnifique mais sauf erreur de ma part ce n'est pas du tout le même type de payasage
si celà t'es égal, va a bantayan
Dans mon cas, et sans prosélytisme, ces aiguilles rocheuses affutées avec des petites forets au sommet et des eaux translucides méritent d'être vues au moins rapidemment, Coron island est un des paysages les plus magiques que j'ai vus

Coron est magnifique. Tu pourra déjà y plonger, il y a de nombreux sites pour cela...
El nido est victime de son succés. Pour moi, beaucoup trop de touristes y sont présents. La plage est effectivement douteuse dans le cas où tu souhaiterais te baigner dedans.
Néanmoins, si tu fait abstraction de la ville, les ballades A, B et C sont effectivement superbes ! Le panorama est magnifique. Les plages et sessions de snorkeling sont terribles !
Le fait que El Nido soit victime de son succés a aussi ses bons cotés. Il y a de bons restaurants, et tu pourra y trouver tout le confort moderne.
Si tu décide de faire Coron-El Nido, je te conseille de pousser jusqu'à Port Barton, puis d'aller à Puerto Princessa pour prendre un vol vers Cebu.
APO, je ne connais pas. Par contre, je peux te dire que Bantayan est superbe (met toi en relation avec Jeandaune, il t'en parlera mieux que moi). Le contact avec les locaux est trés facile. C'est une ile trés agréable et reposante...

Je confirme pour Coron. Personnellement j'y retourne pour la troisième fois cette année. Coron Town n'est pas attrayante en elle même, mais moi j'aime cette ville et j'aime y plonger.

Ça par contre, je connais et j'adore. Enfin si on parle de Apo Island, car à ne pas confondre avec Apo reef. Apo island est une jolie très petite ile dont on fait le tour a pied en une demie journée, a peine. Farniente et plongée au programme parce qu'il n'y a rien d'autre a faire. Enfin si il y a une chose importante, c'est rencontrer les gens du village qui sont adorables
Pour les plongées, il n'y a plus pour le moment que cinq spots d'ouvert, mais moi je ne m'en lasse pas. Il faut noter aussi qu'ils mettent en place un programme de plantation de coraux pour faire repartir la cote opposée de l'ile qui a été dévastée deux fois par des typhons...
El Nido attire en effet quelques tourites, mais si cela est le cas ce n'est pas pour rien. La plage ne constitue pas son principal attrait mais bien le départ pour les excursions au coeur de l'archipel des bacuits. Cet endroit est une perle sublime.
Vous parlez de touristes mais de quoi parlons nous? Il n'y a pas des cars entiers de tours operators et cela reste paisible (vous pourrez meme allez sur corong corong pour plus de tranquilité)Profitez de cet endroit pour ce qu'il est et de sa beauté. En 2 jours vous aurez un bel aperçu. Vous pourrez aussi partir en moto ou van vers plages sans personnes (nous étions 4 sur des centaines de metres)
Dans tous les cas même si vous n'allez pas à el nido, quelque soit votre choix ce pays est sublime et vous passerez un super moment
C est tres chouette el nido, pour les balades en bateau surtout... il y a es tours A, B, C... c est un peu nul comme noms, ils auraient pu les appeler, Big Lagoon, Snake Island, et Secret Lagoon, ou des noms qui font rever un peu mais non...
El nido, le cadre est chouette, mais je me rapelle que notre piole etait pas super insonorisee, et qu on entendait le trafic sur la petite route... c etait pas non pus enorme.
Tu peux louer un kayak aussi pour aller sur ile en face, on etait tout seul, mais au retour chaud avec courant, vagues et vent contraire sur une petite zone! Mais quand tu pars sur les iles autours (entre 700 et 900 Pesos suivant le tour de memoire, incluant un chouette dejeuner...)
Juste pour info, je suis arrivée aujourd hui á el nido et ns avons pris la seule disponible á 1300 p... Tout est overbooké ! Quant au côté touristique, j arrive de port barton oú c était magnifiquement calme, sans tricycle, du coup lá c est carrément plus bruyant et j espère que l archipel vaut le détour...
Pourquoi ne plonger qu'à Apo ?
D'abord, je suppose qu'il s'agit d'Apo island (à côté de Negros et Siquijor) et non d'Apo reef.
J'ai beaucoup aimé Coron et El Nido en mars 2012.
J'ai également beaucoup aimé Negros, Siquijor et Bohol en mars 2009.
Tous ces endroits ont leur intérêt aussi bien sur l'eau que sous l'eau.
Plongées sympas dans la baie de Coron (principalement épaves) et à Barracuda lake avec le centre de plongée de l'hôtel Coral Bay sur Popototan island. Les deux heures de bateau entre Popototan et Coron island permettent de bien profiter du charme des Calamian.
Même si El Nido n'est pas réputé pour ses plongées, nous y avons faits d'excellentes plongées avec le centre Submariner grâce à Windel (divemaster philippin). Ne pas hésiter à faire un ou deux circuits dans l'archipel ou encore mieux un circuit sur mesure.
Bien sûr, El Nido est victime de son succès et est devenu une petite ville avec ses avantages (boutiques, restaurants) et ses inconvénients (prix, foule, bruit, ...). Nous avions choisi l'hôtel Marina Garden directement sur la plage et nous n'avons pas regretté ce choix.
Quelques belles plongées à Negros (Guinsoan), Apo island (très beaux coraux mais manque de poissons), Siquijor (Paliton wall, Sunken island, Maite), Bohol (Balicasag). Une ballade en moto sur Siquijor laisse également un souvenir extraordinaire malgré l'absence totale de panneaux.
Attention, le temps passe vite et les déplacements d'un endroit à un autre ont vite fait de prendre une journée.
Je suis rentré samedi de 13 jours à Palawan et j'avais moi aussi lu des avis très divers sur el nido.
Oui il y a beaucoup de touristes, mais ce n'est pas non plus Ibiza... et le public qui s'y trouve aime les lieux préservés. La plage ne constitue pas un intérêt démesuré, sauf si tu y passes quelques après-midi à observer les gens, à discuter, à regarder le paysage mer/montagne/bangka...
J'ai beaucoup aimé l'atmosphère de cette ville comme de toute l'île d'ailleurs. Les Philippins ont un sens du partage fantastique..
pour les circuits, j'ai fait les A et D , je recommande avec une préférence pour le premier.
Si tu as le temps, va juste à côté à Corong Corong pour te ballader au coucher du soleil, c'est assez exceptionnel.
J'aurais aimé faire Port BArton, mais pas eu le temps. Sabang, elle, m'a aussi enchanté, et surtout le soir, quand la "foule" venue pour la rivière souterraine s'évapore et laisse place aux rencontres avec les habitants. Nous avons fait la traversée jusqu'à Coron et je pense que nous avons été imensément chanceux car beaucoup nous avaient invités à ne pas faire le voyage. La mer était très calme et de fait le trajet magnifique, mais je le précise, c'est assez rare ce calme...
Coron d'emblée semble peu attractive mais prendre le temps de séjourner permet de découvrir des ambiances très chaleureuses. Le tour A est de toute beauté...
il y a tant à faire dans ce pays, pour ma part, c'est certain, j'y retournerai

Que ce soit Coron ou El Nido, ces 2 villes sont des points de départ pour des tours en bateau à la journée. Sur des îles, ilôts magnifiques !!
Mais Coron mérite pluss de temps qu'El Nido. Les lacs sont superbes, les iles merveilleuses.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
