Nous preparons un dernier voyage en Asie avant de rentrer travailler a Paris apres 3 ans en Chine. Voici l'itineraire que nous prevoyons, sachant que nous ferons tout cela avec notre fille de 1, 5 ans. C'est un itineraire qui me semble tres "speed" mais on n'a que 17 jours et je n'arrive pas a le simplifer (on a tellement envie de tout visiter!!). Meme si a la base on prefere le train et les bus - bref les vacances plutot routs - la on est avec un enfant, et c'est toute une logistique (on doit meme emmener un lit pliant, je vous laisse imaginer le chargement). Donc on prevoit de prendre l'avion entre chacune des 5 etapes ci-dessous :
1 - Guilin (3 jours) du 2 au 4 juin inclus : Mes amis me conseillent d'y rester 3 jours max en visitant plutot Yangshuo qui est parait-il un peu moins touristique.
2 - Yunnan (5jours) (Kuning Dali Lijiang et autre chose si possible?): Du 5 au 9 juin inclus.
3 - Hanoi + la baie d'Halong (3 jours) : du 10 juin au 13 juin inclus
4 - Hue (3 jours) : 14 au 16 juin inclus
5 - Saigon (3 jours) du 17 au 19 juin inclus. Des amis qui vont nous y heberger nous disent que 2 jours suffisent pour Saigon, mais qu'il y a pas mal de choses a voir aux alentours sur la journee.
Nous recherchons surtout des beaux paysages (rizieres en terrasse, montagne, rivieres...) car on a eut notre dose de temples boudhistes.
Est-ce que cet itineraire vous semble faisable? Trop charge? On m'a dit aussi que sur cet itineraire il serait peut-etre pertinent de supprimer Guilin pour placer plus de temps au Vietnam ou les paysages sont aussi beaux voir plus beaux?
N'hesitez pas a nous donner votre avis de "baroudeurs" (+ aussi si vous avez des hotels pas chers a nous conseiller...)

c'est tout le contraire, yangshuo n'est que touristique. Je te conseille de faire 2 jours guilin + 2 jours yangshuo
Je te conseille le "grand hotel 0773" a guilin, bien placé, propre.
ou de rester 3 jours a guilin pour rayonner autour
Tu as oublié une chose importante: meme si tu te deplaces en avion, cela prend au minimum une bonne demi-journée. Hors dans les 17 jours il ne reste plus de place pour le transport.
Sans compter biensur le deplacement en bus--

Dans ton periple, j'enleverai Kunming, qui est a mon sens encore une grosse ville chinoise,
Il vaut mieux concentrer ton attention sur Dali et son lac, et Lijiang et sa vieille ville...

3. Vietnam
9 jours pour faire un tour du vietnam ... c'est peu ...
Si tu veux voir davantage de rizieres, de haut plateaux, il faut faire le nord du Vietnam : Sapa, Lao cai, Ha giang, ...
Tu pourrais limite prendre un train de Kunming a Hanoi pour voir les paysages, mais fatigant avec le bebe ...
Pour la baie d'halong, choisis une formule tout organise, pour moins te prendre la tete (prends la un peu plus cher pour que ce soit plus confort avec le bebe, et ne pas etre avec 20 autres personnes ...) ~ 30USD pour 2 jours
Je n'ai pas visiter Hue encore, donc je ne peux pas te dire si 3 jours sont suffisant ou trop ...
Et pour Saigon, la ville est sympa, mais si tu veux bouger dans les environs, c'est minimum 3h a 5h de route : tu as le delta du mekong et ses marches flottants (mais trajet en voiture - minimum 3 a 4 h pour la plus proche des villes pour acceder au mekong) Tu peux aussi te poser a la plage : Mui ne, Vung tau ... ms c'est encore a voiture qu'on y va ...
Et si tu es fatiguee avec ton bebe, tu auras peut etre plus envie de te poser de tps en tps plutot que de galoper ou de passer ton tps dans une voiture ... ?
Je ne commenterais pas sur la Chine, que je ne connais pas du tout. Par contre, le nord du Vietnam, je connais bien, et je suis TRES curieux de savoir ou aller pour payer une cabine sur un bateau $30 pour 2 jours. Est-ce un TO local une fois que l'on est arrive a Halong City ou Cat Ba? (l'adresse m'interesse, car je pense y retourner un jour, mais "en solo". En tout cas, ca ne peut pas etre un 2j Hanoi-Along-Hanoi; le - cher que je connaisse, c'est $35, et absolument tout est ignoble: le bateau, la bouffe, le service, etc. Le moins cher potable est $45 par personne et ca monte graduellement jusqu'a $115 avec une suite, vins fins, etc.

Desole, mais votre programme, il est plutot bizarre, et va forcement ruiner quelque chose. Je ne parle pas de la Chine, que je ne connais absolument pas, mais je connais fort bien le nord du Vietnam, et aller dans cette region absolument magnifique pour faire un "3j Hanoi + Halong Bay", c'est comme de faire la France Paris + 2j Mt St Michel et Chateaux de la Loire 🙁🤪 (en fait, du 10 au 13 inclus, ca fait 4 jours, pas 3!). Ensuite Hue 3j et Saigon 2j + "pas mal de choses aux environs"... Ca laisse pensif pour qui connait bien ce pays, surtout avec un enfant de 1 an et demi 🏴☠️.
QUE VOULEZ-VOUS: visiter le Vietnam ou faire l'equivalent de Paris-Mt St Michel-les Chateaux de la Loire-la Bourgogne-la Provence et la Cote d'Azur pour terminer a l'aeroport de Nice, le tout en 8 jours????
Je vs conseille donc, puisque vs arrivez de Chine du Sud, de passer au moins 5 jours ds le nord, qui est absolument magnifique, et Hue si vs voulez, et laisser tomber le sud a moins que votre "business" vs y oblige.

Ayant l'expérience de GUILIN/yangshuo; Kunming-LIJIANG en 2001 et HANOI -BAIE D'HALONG en 2009 je me permet de te répondre :
GUILIN = ville chinoise moderne (en 2001) seul intérêt : c'est le départ des bateaux sur la riviere LI jusqu'a Yangshuo
YANGCHUO : des pitons calcaires au milieu des rizieres, trés cool à vélo
MAIS tu trouveras exactement les mêmes paysages au sud d'HANOI à
"BAIE D'HALONG TERRESTE - TAM COC"

et beaucoup plus Cool, surtout si tu voyages avec un jeune enfant. Tu éviteras les foules de touristes chinois, et tu éviteras un déplacement supplémentaire en avion.
KUNMING autour de la ville il y a des sites intéressants à voir :

Les temples autour du lac de Kunming
DALI pas visité
LIJIANG : avion kunming Lijiang
C'est une station d'altitude (2500 m ?) au pieds du mont du dragon ?
Jolie ville ancienne avec sa population d'origine
Mais c'était déjà en 2001 une sorte de musee en plein air avec foule de touristes
On accede à la montagne (contreforts du Tibet) par un telepherique,
visites de quelques temples et d'un village ancien avec le celebre docteur Ho (est il encore vivant ?).
Bref station de montagne, une sorte de chamonix, agréable pour ses paysage....si le temps est au beau fixe.
HANOI
a éviter si vous le pouvez, pollué, stressant, impossible de se promener tranquillement etc
Sauf : le spectacle des marionettes sur l'eau. trés intéressant et pas seulement pour les enfants
BAIE D 'HA LONG trés décevante
sachez que vous n'avez qu'une chance sur 3 d'avoir du soleil. Le reste du temps c'est pluie ou brume. mais on peut aimer.
Mais il parait que c'est "INCONTOURNABLE" alors il y a le circuit classique à partir d'Hanoi (voir n'importe quelle agence) :
départ hanoi 8h
11h30 embarquement sur une jonque Repas
PM navigation, visite de grottes, kayak de mer, bain
repas et Nuit a bord (chambres de bon confort si on y met le prix >= 100 $/pers))
le lendemain navigation et retour au port vers 10h30-11h

retour Hanoi vers 16-17h
Il y a des alternatives mais peut être plus compliquees avec un BB : prendre les bateaux-bus qui relient Halong aux iles de CAT-BA et/ou Quan Lan, et dormir à terre sur une de ces 2 iles.

Je viens partager mon experience par rapport au parcours que vous proposez sachant que j'ai a peu pres visiter tous les sites que tu envisages et avec un bebe egalement (age de 6 mois au Vietnam et 10 mois dans le Yunnan).
Comme ca l'a deja ete dis ton programme semble un peu trop rapide. Quand il y a un deplacement en avion, comptes que ta journee est fichue : trajet hotel/aeroport / temps attente / temps avion / trajet aeroport/hotel et bebe qui en aura marre...
Cote logistique, j'abandonnerai l'idee du lit pliant qui suit, car les bagages + poussette + lit... ca va devenir tres complique surtout que vous prevoyez bcp de deplacement... Il faut essayer de voir si a 2 avec le bebe dans les bras vous arrivez a tout porter!? si oui chapeau! Je vous conseillerez de cibler sur des hotels qui ont des lits enfants si possible, sinon j'utilise une tente pop-up pour bebe, leger et facile a transporter partout. Si vous envisagez des ballades dans la campagne comme Yangshuo ou dans le Yunnan, je vous conseillerai de prevoir un bon porte-bebe, car j'imagine qu'a 1 an 1/2 il ne marche pas bien longtemps et vous ne pourrez pas utiliser la poussette partout.
Concernant votre programme :
1. Guilin est une ville chinoise ordinaire je n'y ai rien trouve de speciale, par contre j'ai bcp aime Yangshuo meme si c'est tres touristique. La ballade en bateau de Guilin a Yangshuo est tres jolie. Yangshuo est un bon depart pour aller faire des randos entre les pics karstiques. Avec le bebe, les ballades en bateau seront peut-etre mieux que celles a velo...? je ne me souviens pas avoir vu de location de siege enfant pour les velos..??? mais il vrai que vous retrouverz presque les memes paysages au Vietnam avec la Baie d'Halong ou Tam Coc... Attention, qd j'y suis allee (peut-etre ca a change?) on descendait en bateau de Guilin a Yangshuo par contre on remontait en bus de Yangshuo a Guilin, l'aeroport etant a Guilin...
2. Yunnan : au nord la montagne, le lac (Dali, Lijiang) ou au sud les rizieres en terrasse de Yuanyang (A mon gout, les plus beaux paysages que j'ai vu en Asie!!!). en 5 jours, il faut faire l'un ou l'autre. Je pense que par rapport a ce que vous recherchez, il n'y a pas d'interet a s'arreter a Kunming.
3. Hanoi + Baie d'Halong : 3 jours impossible! Perso j'aime bcp aime Hanoi, j'y resterai au moins 2 jours, et egalement au moins 2 jours pour la Baie d'Halong donc une nuit sur la Baie. Il y a des bateaux tres confortable avec meme un lit enfant a dispo.
4. Hue : vu le peu de temps que vous avez j'annulerai Hue. pour passer directemet au sud du Vietnam. Si vous voulez faire une halte au centre du Vietnam, je vous conseillerai Hoi An que j'ai plus apprecie que Hue
5. Saigon : oui 1 journee a Saigon est suffisant. Ce qui est bien et pour voir encore des paysages differents c'est aller voir un marche flottant dans le Delta du Mekong. Prevoir peut-etre une excursion de 2 ou 3 jours.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
