Il faut prendre une correspondance en cours de route, je doute que vous puissiez le faire, car la majorité des bus qui partent de Lào Cai à Hà Giang sont partis tôt le matin.

Comment comptez-vous aller à Sapa? Il vous faut au minimum une journée entière de transport!

Les agences ne vendent que des tours prédéterminés. Votre demande ressemble à un circuit privé et qui nécessite d'ailleurs au moins 2 jours de plus.

En Avril, c'est un peu juste pour faire du snorkeling. Gla! Gla! D'ailleurs, vous ne trouvez pas d'agences qui vous y amènent à cette date.

C'est un emploi du temps assez difficile à tenir à mon avis, surtout en débarquant le matin à hanoi pour en repartir le soir même. A ma connaissance, je n'ai vu qu'une compagnie à faire le trajet Hanoi-Bac Ha et elle n'a probablement que 2 bus (l'un partant de Bac Ha pour Hanoi et l'autre de Hanoi - gare routière de My Dinh - pour Bac Ha). Ce qui voudrait dire qu'il suffise qu'il y ait un peu d'affluence pour qu'il n'y ait plus de place à bord. Voici en tout cas le n° de téléphone (mobile) pour contacter la Cie de transport Hai Vân sur une photo de mai 2012 (tarif à l'époque de 280.000 VND par trajet par personne - cela doit être plus élevé maintenant). Il vous faudra aussi trouver une personne parlant le vietnamien pour réserver les places dès votre arrivée à hanoi car cela m'étonnerait que vous tombiez sur quelqu'un parlant l'anglais ou le français.
Les alternatives : prendre le train jusqu'à Lao Cai et de là prendre un bus public jusqu'à Bac Ha mais le temps de trajet est d'environ 2h30 à 3h. Selon mes souvenirs le premier bus public à traverser Bac Ha en direction de Si Ma Cai passait vers les 8h du matin, soit un départ vers 5h30 de Lao Cai (les trains arrivent entre 4h30 et 7h30).
Il serait aussi possible de descendre à la station juste avant Lao Cai, qui est Phô Lu, pour prendre un bus mais c'est trop aléatoire et si vous ne parlez pas le vietnamien c'est encore plus compliqué !

En moto il est peut-être possible de passer par la piste qui part au Nord de Bac Ha vers Ha Giang mais je ne connais pas l'état de cette piste. Cela doit être à mon avis assez difficile. Sinon, il faut repasser par le Sud de Bac Ha en prenant la Nationale 70 en direction de Hanoi pour ensuite remonter vers le Nord vers Ha Giang. Cela peut bien prendre une bonne journée en voiture de location. Ce qui implique de partir assez tôt de Bac Ha le dimanche (vers 10h).
La question qui se pose déjà est que vous devez déjà avoir une moto (en louant à hanoi et en la transportant en train, dans ce cas vous irez de Lao Cai à bac Ha en moto). Si vous comptez en louer une sur place, cela implique qu'il faut la ramener ou sinon trouver un loueur de moto qui puisse accepter de la récupérer à hanoi (via des connaissances ou un réseau) ce qui n'est pas trop évident à trouver tout de suite.

Si après Ha Giang et le plateau de Dong Van et Meo Vac vous comptez repartir vers Sapa alors c'est pas très bon car il vous faudra refaire le chemin en sens inverse, vers Lao Cai pour aller à Sapa !
A mon avis, il vous faudra faire l'impasse soit sur Sapa soit sur Ha Giang pour faire dans le Nord soit Sapa+Bac Ha, soit Bac Ha + Dong Van Meo Vac. Etant donné le reste de votre parcours, je ne pense pas que vous puissiez faire Dong Van Meo vac depuis Bac Ha en si peu de temps à moins d'avoir une super moto et d'être un "as des rallyes" vu l'état des routes dans les régions montagneuses du Nord.
Je pense aussi que votre programme tel qu'il est formulé est bien trop chargé pour 16 jours et qu'à vouloir trop voir de choses on risque de ne pas voir grand chose, surtout qu'un tel programme nécessiterait une préparation minutieuse qui ne souffrirait pas le moindre accroc.
Les destinations baie D'Halong, Hue etc. ne posent pas de problèmes majeurs. Ninh Binh peut se faire en une journée avec une moto de location depuis Hanoi ou sinon passer par des tours d'une journée.
Je ne peux que confirmer ce qu'on vous a déjà écrit : à vouloir en voir beaucoup , vous allez perdre l'essentiel .... le plaisir
Il ne faut pas oublier qu'au Vietnam les transports sont toujours longs , fatiguants et pas toujours très à l'heure .... prévoir trop juste c'est se heurter à des imprévues qui peuvent vous gâcher votre périple ....
Il y a beaucoup de choses magnifiques à voir mais il vaut mieux se concentrer sur peu pour les apprécier sans stress .

9-10-11 : si vous débarquez d'une jonque vers 12h00 : soit vous repassez par Hanoi avant de repartir pour Ninh Binh soit vous y allez direct mais de toute façon vous perdrez entre 4 et 8h00 en transport ...soit à peine 1/2 journée à Ninh Binh avant de reprendre le train pour Hué le soir pour n'y rester qu'une journée puis refaire 4h00 de route pour Hoi An
A votre place je ferais "sauter soit NinhBinh soit Hué pour profiter de l'un des deux mais plus longtemps ...Sans compter que votre périple en Montagne sera déjà une course éfreinée qui ne tient pas compte de la fatigue du voyage , du décalage horaire et de la nuit en bus directement à l'arrivée ....
Bon Voyage dans ce magnifique pays qui ne s'apprécie que si on prend un peu son temps
Suivez les avis donnés, vous voulez trop en faire en si peu de temps, les transports sont lents, les routes fatiguantes, il vous faudra récupérer aux étapes et non en profiter.
Si vous n'écoutez pas les conseils adressés par les messages ci dessus vous allez "gacher" votre voyage et passer à coté de l'essentiel.

En novembre dernier, j'ai un groupe d'amis qui avaient loué une voiture 4x4 qui est venue les chercher à Bac Hà depuis hanoi pour aller à Ha Giang. La voiture est arrivée à Bac Hà le dimanche en fin de journée. Ils sont partis lundi matin et sont arrivés à Ha Giang dans la nuit noire suite à un problème technique (sinon c'était prévu pour la fin de la journée, vers 18h, en s'arrêtant à quelques points panoramiques pour prendre des photos - cela aussi cela fait perdre du temps).

Mon avis est que ce n'est pas possible pour vous d'aller à Ha Giang, faire le plateau Dong Van Meo Vac en moto puis de retourner à Sapa sans sabrer votre séjour dans le Centre (Hue et Hoi An) ou la partie dans la Baie d'Halong.
Sachant que vous arrivez le samedi matin à Hanoi, vous aurez déjà beaucoup de chance d'arriver à bac Ha le dimanche matin. Si vous y réussissiez, il n'y aura pas de problèmes pour prendre un bus local (départ vers 13h devant le Temple de Bac Hà) pour Lao Cai (arrivée vers 16h30 car le bus perd souvent une heure à tourner en rond pour chercher des clients dans Bac Hà s'il n'est pas plein). Là il n'y aura pas de bus pour Sa Pa à cette heure = soit louer une voiture ou un taxi ou louer une moto à moins de passer une nuit à lao Cai pour prendre le bus tôt le matin (là vous pouvez faire les treks classiques d'une demi-journée comme Cat Cat et le parc Ham rong en visitant Sapa et profiter de votre premier hotel - vous en aurez certainement bien besoin à ce stade là).

Pour prendre le train du soir de Lao Cai pour Hanoi, les tours partent généralement de Sapa vers 17h (les trains partent après 20h00). Il vous faudra déjà passer par une agence ou par votre hotel pour acheter les billets de train ce qui suppose un peu d'attente et de la chance car achat au dernier moment.
Si vous y arrivez, vous allez alors arriver vers les 5h du matin à la gare de Hanoi. Si jamais il n'y avait plus de couchettes ou de places dans les trains rapides, il se peut que vous arriviez par les trains lents dont certains s'arrêtent parfois à la gare de Gia Lâm ou de Long Biên (juste avant la gare centrale de Hanoi) comme terminus final. De là il vous faudra partir immédiatement pour votre tour Baie d'halong (qu'il aura fallu booker le samedi de votre arrivée ou, à la rigueur, depuis Sapa) qui devrait partir aux alentours de 7h à 7h30.

Effectivement comme l'ont fait remarquer d'autres il y a là encore un problème de transition géographique.
C'est assez difficile de prendre un bus de Ninh Binh vers Hué bien que faisable. Surtout si on a des horaires à respecter. Par ailleurs, tous les trains ne s'arrêtent pas à Ninh Binh. En général les trains rapides ne s'arrêtent qu'à Nam Dinh et l'arrêt suivant est normalement Thanh Hoa. Ninh Binh se situe entre les deux, plus proche de Nam Dinh.
11 hué
Il vous faudrait faire le choix entre Ninh Binh et Hué. Mais pour visiter un minimum Hué il faut au moins, à mon avis, 2 journées. Et ensuite pour aller à Hôi An de Hué, cela fait environ 130 km. En bus public c'est faisable en 2 fois (jusque Da nang puis changement de bus ou sinon taxi). En open Bus (Café Sinh etc.) également mais il faut voir les horaires de départ depuis Hué. Sinon c'est le taxi direct Hué-Hôi An (le temps c'est de l'argent).
Mon avis serait alors, si vous avez la préférence pour Hôi An, de couper Ninh Binh (sa région est surnommée la baie d'Halong terrestre) et Hué, pour revenir à hanoi depuis la Baie d'Halong et ensuite partir soit en train, voire l'avion pour Danang et ensuite en bus pour Hoi An (ou en bus direct depuis Hanoi).
Si vous voulez absolument Hué dans votre programme, il serait sage de couper au moins un jour à Hôi An (plage snorkeling), pour le déplacer vers Hué. Et encore, ce n'est pas sûr que cela suffise car il y a toujours les impondérables des horaires pour les transitions entre les diverses destinations.

Là je vous conseillerai aussi de prendre l'avion de danang pour retourner sur Hanoi car vous aurez près de 800 km, sinon plus, à faire par la route.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

Nous avons passé en famille un peu plus de 2 semaines avec comme programme Hanoi 5 jours
Baie d'Halong 3 jours et 2 nuits
Tam coc 3 jours
Mai Chau 2 jours
Sapa 3 jours
Vélos , scooters, grab et bus pour les déplacements.
Hébergements principaux en homestay et hôtels sur Hanoi.
Nombreux musées , temples et quartiers sur Hanoi visités
Trek de 2 jours et 1 nuit sur Sapa avec May de la minorité Hmong en direct et sans agence .
Plusieurs petits regrets , temps couvert et pas de possibilité d'aller au Fansipan mais rien de grave 😉, pas pu trouver de transport pour rejoindre Mu Cang Chai de Sapa .
À part cela , ce voyage restera gravé dans nos mémoires pour la gentillesse des vietnamiens , les rencontres faites , la nourriture ( rue , homestays...) , les cafés 😋, les paysages , la facilité pour se déplacer ....
Notre volonté était de prendre notre temps et de nous consacrer uniquement à une petite partie du Nord Vietnam.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!
I think there are, but I’d need more details!!
I went to Thailand in February 2025 and don’t remember having to apply for a visa—is that still the case now? And for Cambodia too?

For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...

My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!
Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
