Bonjour, nous sommes une famille de 5 (2 adultes et 3 ados de 17, 14 et 14 ans) et nous partons en Malaisie pendant 3 semaines du 22 juillet au 15 août.
Je (l'ado de 17 ans 🙂) suis chargé d'organiser le voyage (comme tous les autres d'ailleurs😊). Je suis en plein hésitation pour l'itinéraire. En effet durant ces 3 semaines et demies, j'aimerais faire à peu près toute la Malaisie péninsulaire. J'ai donc fait un itinéraire (pouvant être largement modifié), je précise que tous les trajets se feront en voiture de location :
23/07 : Arrivée à Kuala Lumpur (KL) dans la soirée.
24/07 : Visite de KL
25/07 : Visite de KL + départ dans l'après midi pour le parc de Taman Negara (si possible petite marche de 30 min pour faire la Canopy Walkway)
26/07 : Trek dans la jungle (Bundung Kumbang)
27/07 : Trek (Bundung Kumbang)
28/07 : Direction les Cameron Highland (Tanah Rata)
29/07 : Cameron Highland + départ pour Ipoh
30/07 : Soit on passe une journée sur l'île de Pangkor ou soit on roule vers Kota Bharu pour gagner une journée et pouvoir faire l'île de Kapas donc Kapas ou Pangkor pour 1 jour ?
01/08 : Journée voiture pour aller jusqu'à Kota Bharu 🤪
02/08 : Visite de Kota Bharu.
03/08 : Perhentians
04/08 : Perhentians
05/08 : Perhentians (Combien de jours y passer pour vraiment en profiter ?)
06/08 : Arrêt à Cherating
07/08 : Cherating (Tortues + Balade sur la rivière)
08/08 : Arrêt à Mersing
09/08 : Tioman
10/08 : Tioman
11/08 : Tioman
12/08 : Singapour
13/08 : Singapour
14/08 : Malacca
15/08 : Malacca + départ pour l'aéroport de Kuala Lumpur ( Notre vol est à 23h)
Voilà j'ai essayé de faire l'itinéraire le plus réaliste possible. De plus j'ai volontairement enlevé l'île de Penang et Langkawi parce qu'elles étaient trop éloignés et puis valent-elles le coût ?
Mon circuit est-il réaliste ? Les distances ne sont-elles pas trop importantes ?

tu as raison on ne peux jamais tout faire c'est vrai que c'est un peu dommage pour penang mais malacca te donne une belle vitrine d'une ville coloniale de plus si tu passes à ipoh c'est sympa chinatown, little india, marché de nuit et temples grotte à flanc de falaise
ton itineraire parait faisable mais j'y mettrai un bémol car j'ai l'impression que tu compliques en faisant

de plus j'ai peur que faire pangkor (dommage ile de pécheurs un peu moins touristique) ou kapas en plus, ça fasse beaucoup surtout pour n'y passer qu'un jour, il faut toujours se garder 1 ou 2 j de marge pour les imprévus et avec perhentians (3j c'est bien) cherating et tioman (4j) tu as le plus beau mais le plus touristique....

je crois que ton père n'aura aucun problème pour se faire plaisir à s'en lécher les doigts beaucoup de fruits de mer le long de la cote et sur les iles, sur besar aux perhentians de superbes BBQ des produits de la mer au watercolor et mama's (gambas aussi grosses que des langoustes) sinon à kl dans la rue (jalan) alor pres de bukit bintang tu n'as que l'embarras du choix meme si ce n'est pas pour les langoustes essayez d'y passer dans la journée et le soir on dirait 2 rues différentes:impressionnant.
pour tioman je ne ferais pas l'impasse beaucoup de choses à faire, après ne connaissant ni cherating ni kapas je ne peux pas t'aider mais d'autres internautes auront surement la réponse

Bonjour, si ça peut t'aider, Kapas est une jolie petite île et très tranquille ; plage, petites balades, repos... Pas de langouste à ma connaissance mais très bonne cuisine au Qimi. J'ai été aux Perhentian après, plus touristiques mais magnifiques et avec plus de choses à faire, et je ne regrette pas d'avoir fait les deux. Par contre je ne connais pas Tioman. Bons préparatifs 🙂

Mon itinéraire semble donc faisable. A moins que vous ayez des sites incontournables à absolument pas rater et qu'il faut à tout prix inclure...
De plus connaissez des agences de location de voitures locales qui sont sérieuses ou me conseillez vous de réserver auprès des grandes compagnies ?
J'espère que notre premier voyage en Asie sera une réussite. En effet nous avons visité pratiquement toute l'Europe mais nous ne sommes jamais encore sorties de l'Europe.

si t'as le temps ipoh et sa région très sympa , tu as aussi le lac keniyr vers kuala terrenganu et surement d'autres coin que je ne connais pas...
franchement tu n'as pas à t'inquiéter la malaisie est facile à faire, bonnes routes, nombreux choix de logements, excellente nourriture à tous les coins de rues, disponibilité et gentillesse des malaisiens qui parlent presque tous anglais mais connaitre quelques mots de malais est plus sympa, pas de harcèlement touristique.

ton planning parait équilibré mais penser aux trajets tu perds facilement 1j parfois
si tu ne pars pas en haute saison (voir vacances malaisiennes fin juin, juillet, aout je crois) pas besoin de réserver ça te laisse plus de liberté
en septembre on n'a jamais couché dehors
deplacements en bus, nombreux pas chers et parfois grand luxe, pour certains trajets tu as des minibus un poil plus chers mais directs et plus rapides

Réserver à l'avance est une bonne idée pour les îles. Pour le continent, je ne pense pas que ce soit utile.
Après 3 jours à Kapas, je suis resté 8 jours aux Perhentian (partagés entre les deux îles). Et je peux te dire que je n'étais pas du tout pressé d'en repartir 😎 et même on serait bien restés encore un peu plus. Nombreux et excellents spots de snorkeling, plongée, petites ou plus longues marches (surtout sur P. Kecil), excursion à Rawa (très beau)...
Et encore nous n'avons pas été à Redang.
Comme quoi les appréciations sur le temps que ""mérite"" un lieu, sont relatives aux attentes et à la manière de voyager...

je suis d'accord avec toi on y a passé 4j sans s'ennuier mais quand on a un temps limité et qu'on désire découvrir les autres aspects de la malaisie on est bien obligé de faire des choix et parfois c'est dur comme pour perhentians et tioman....

Pour le reste, je crois que je vais réserver un peu partout car en août + fin de ramadan !
Faire les trajets de nuit il doit y avoir moyen, mais attention, nous l'avons fait une fois pour faire Kuala Besut - Penang et nous sommes retrouvés dans un bus normal genre bus de jour, sièges très peu inclinables, inconfortables au possible et on est arrivés bien crevés...
Il y a aussi des bus VIP mais on n'a pas du tomber sur le bon ! (réservé aux Perhentian donc on ne l'avait pas vu avant de prendre les billets)
Peut-être tenter le train couchettes : sur notre itinéraire il n'y en avait pas, mais sur le tien il y a la "jungle line" qui passe par le Taman Negara.
S'ils sont comme les 2e classe thaïlandais, ce n'est pas la panacée mais on n'y dort pas si mal...

je crois que tu as un jungle train de nuit entre kota bharu et jerantut mais je ne connais que le "confort" du tortillard de jour

Nous avions aussi pris air asia, entre KL et Kuala terengganu. Le prix annoncé 60euros doit être le plein tarif hors promo : je me rappelle qu'on avait payé 4 fois moins cher (60e ttc pour 4.) Par contre comme ils veulent s'arrêter au parc nationa, l c'est pour ça qu'on parlait bus et train.
Voir aussi firefly airlines pour les vols intérieurs low cost...

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. It’ll be our first time in Asia, and we’re thinking of hitting the classic spots in East Java and Bali, then wrapping up with a cruise around Komodo for some snorkeling/diving. Here’s a rough draft of our itinerary—I’m wondering if it’s doable.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
The idea is to know what to expect so we can prepare as best as possible. Thanks for your replies! !
