Hi there,

I’m trying to find out if it’s still possible to travel from Mumbai to Goa by ferry or any other sea route. My search results aren’t very clear, and if it *is* possible, I can’t figure out where to book... If anyone has any info, I’d really appreciate it—thanks in advance!

Have a great day,

Virginie

Hello, This route no longer existed in January, February, and March 2026. It would be surprising, but you never know—maybe it’s reopened since then. You can try contacting the agency Akbar Holidays in Mumbai. www.akbartravels.com Otherwise, you might find ferries that’ll take you to northern Maharashtra, like Mandwa. After that, train or bus. Safe travels.

Safe travels!

Thanks so much!

Hello This route existed back in the 70s, but I haven’t heard about it since. Too bad—it was a lovely little cruise, much more comfortable than the bus or train. Safe travels

Yes, that’s right—by 1981, when I tried to take the boat again, it no longer existed. I ended up taking the bus, and I still remember it! We left at 2:00 PM, and I asked the driver for the approximate arrival time in Goa. His answer: "seven O'clock." I thought he meant 7:00 PM and figured he was really fast—until we arrived at seven o’clock… the next morning! The seats were wooden with a headrest (also wooden) that hit me mid-back! Not exactly the height of comfort!😏

Alternatives for traveling from Mumbai to Goa Since the classic sea route is closed, here are the three best transportation options for this journey:

Train (The scenic option): This is the best alternative to enjoy the landscape. The Konkan Railway line crosses stunning jungle, river, and mountain scenery. The modern and fast Vande Bharat Express connects the two destinations in about 7 to 8 hours.

Plane (The quick option): Dozens of daily flights connect the two cities in just 1 hour. You can land either at the historic Dabolim airport (convenient for central and southern Goa) or at the new Mopa / Manohar airport (ideal for northern beaches).

Overnight bus: Many private companies offer air-conditioned sleeper buses (Sleeper AC). It’s a budget-friendly option, but the trip takes between 12 and 14 hours on sometimes winding roads.
