Je projette pour Avril 2020 pour mon mari, mon fils de 15 ans et moi même un voyage de 2 semaines, soit 5 nuits à Los Angeles + 5 nuits en Polynésie (il y aura des jour+1 lors des voyages)
Voici mes questions :
1) Pour Los Angeles : Aurons nous besoin de Louer une voiture ? Peut-on uniquement se déplacer en bus ou en taxi ? Est ce couteux ? j'ai remarqué que les hôtels les moins cher étaient aux alentours de l'aéroport. Style Mariott ou Holiday Inn , Basique...Est ce une bonne idée ? Je pense réserver par EXPEDIA c'est moins cher en formule hôtel + vol.
2) Vol Los Angeles/Polynésie (entre 8 et 16 h). Pensez vous que c'est mieux de payer le vol depuis France ou le faire directement à Los Angeles ?
3) Polynésie : Ou passer nos 5 nuits sachant que nous voulons faire du snorkeling avec tortues, requins pointes noires, et quad en excursions ?

5 nuits en PF, 11h de décalage horaire...🤪 Ne le prenez pas mal mais j'ai envie de vous demander pour quoi faire.
De même Los Angeles 5 nuits lors de votre passage aux Etats-Unis ? Rien d'autre n'est prévu à part L.A. ??
Mon conseil est de consacrer ces 15 jours (à vrai dire j'en compte 10 dans votre prévision) à une toute petite partie de l'ouest Américain par exemple puisque vous vous semblez vouloir inclure L.A. sans votre projet.
Il est effectivement préférable de louer une voiture, oui.

Concernant LA, il me semble plus pratique de louer une voiture pour vous déplacer.
3 jours sur place sont amplement suffisant. Je pense qu'il vaut mieux rajouter des jours sur la Polynésie.
Pour mes 30 ans et les 25 ans de mon frère, nous avons eu comme "cadeau" un voyage à Bali sur 7 jours.
24H de vol pour y aller, presque pareil au retour, on en a vraiment chié et on a été déçu de ne pas y rester plus longtemps.
Sinon, il aurait été plus simple de prendre San Francisco comme étape de 3 jours pour les déplacements et les choses à voir. Mais si vous voulez rester sur LA, réduisez en effet votre temps sur place et louez une voiture.
Oui moi aussi j aurais préférer San Francisco mais cette étape à L. A est vraiment pour notre fils qui rêve de cinéma et holywood etc... Le but du voyage est vraiment la Polynésie mais quoi qu il en soit je ne pourrais jamais avoir plus de 2 semaines de congés.

Ça dépend des goûts de chacun.
Lors de ma première visite à chacune de ces deux villes, j'ai aussi préférer S.F.
Un deuxième visite à L.A., car je devais y atterrir , j'ai eu l'occasion de visiter autre chose ( compléter ma première fois) et j'ai redécouvert la ville .
L.A . demeure , à mon avis, une ville plus difficile a "aimer" que SF

Peut-être en ne vous consacrant qu'à une seule destination...😇 Déjà, sur ces 15 jours, il vous faudra ôter au moins 2 jours de voyage. Eh oui, vous ne choisissez pas la destination la plus proche...😉

Cela fait donc 2 jours pleins à LA. D'après votre profil, c'est votre 1er voyage aux Etats-Unis et vous risquez d'être frustrés de ne pas y consacrer plus de temps... Menfin, vous y reviendrez peut-être... Je suis également d'avis que SF a davantage à offrir que LA.
En admettant donc que vous séjourniez 3 nuits à LA, il vous faudra encore extraire une journée pour vous rendre à Papeete. Il vous restera 8 jours pour la PF où vous pourrez voir 2 îles au maximum. Moorea, puisque vous la citez + une autre île sous le vent éventuellement. Là encore il ne faut pas négliger les temps de transport entre chaque île.
Planifiez soigneusement vos visites dans LA. La circulation est très dense et les ralentissements pour ne pas dire les bouchons y sont fréquents.
Choisissez votre hôtel en fonction de son emplacement pour faciliter les visites et non pas en cherchant le prix le plus bas.
Si vous suivez ces suggestions vous aurez un agréable séjour.

La visite de S F peut se faire en 2-3 jours ( fisherman warf, coït tower, painted ladies, golden gate, cable car museum, lombard street etc..) puis direction la Polynésie pour le peu de temps qu'il vous reste pour visiter Moorea et faire les activités décrites dans votre message à savoir tour de quad et visite du lycée agricole et ses confitures et jus frais d'ananas, point de vue au sommet du belvédère, une vue extraordinaire vous attend sur les deux baies les plus connues de l’île, la Baie de Cook, et la Baie d’Oponohu, puis snorkeling et plongée avec les raies manta et requin pointe noire. Cela devrait le faire, un peu au pas de course mais avec 15 jours de vacances vous ne pourrez pas espérer mieux. Ne pas oublier les temps de vol qui sur vos 15 jours vont vous en faire perdre 2 + vols inter îles.

Merci je note tout ça. Un arrêt à Los Angeles est vraiment indispensable pour notre fils qui veut y vivre plus tard (dit il) surtout pour les studios cinéma.
Je pense refaire un voyage mêlant SF las Vegas Yosemite et grand Canyon une autre fois.

J'ai toujours pris une voiture, moins de perte de temps. Pic-nic et eau dans la glacière dans le coffre.
En général aux E-U le service de bus est mauvais quand il existe.

Oui la durée du séjour est courte en effet. Il va falloir pour sur optimiser vos temps de trajets et de déplacement.
J1 : Départ Nice arrivée LA
L'arrivée à LA à en général lieu en fin d'après midi (heure locale) - début de soirée... Vous serez bien crevés par le voyage et vous n'aurez sûrement qu'une envie, celle de vous coucher. Prenez donc un Uber ou un taxi ou une navette collective depuis l'aéroport pour vous rendre à votre hôtel. Ne dormez pas à l'aéroport qui est beaucoup trop excentré par rapport à vos centres d'interêt.
Si c'est pour votre fils passionné de cinéma alors il voudra surement voir Hollywood Boulevard et les studios Universals. Choisissez un hôtel entre Hollywood BV et les studios.
Regardez l'hôtel America Best value Inn Hollywood Bvd. Il y a un metro à côté (ligne rouge) en direct pour Universal. Si c'est le prix avant le luxe que vous cherchez, cet hôtel devrait tout à fait faire l'affaire pour 2 nuits. Sinon il y a d'autres hôtels dans le même secteur mais plus chers.
J2 : Visite des studios Universals. Vous serez lever tôt et pourrez donc être à l'ouverture pour rentabiliser la journée. Puis Uber si éventuellement si vous tenez le coup pour en fin d'après midi , début de soirée monter au Griffith Observatory). Tenez compte des embouteillages. Nuit.
J3 : Je crois que les vols pour Papeete partent de LAX le soir avec une arrivée le matin...ce qui vous laisserez la journée pour explorer Hollywood Bvd (Chinese theater et les empreintes....), Beverly Hills, Santa Monica et retour à l'aéroport pour votre vol du soir. Prévoir d'être à l'aéroport 2h30/ 3h avant l'embarquement pour faire toutes les formalités et contrôles de sécurité.
J4 à J12/13 : La Polynésie ce qui n'est pas mal en nombres de jours sur place. Vous pouvez faire 2 îles je pense puis ensuite retour au bercail.
Dans ce programme, restera à organiser les déplacement du J2 et du J3. Oubliez les transport en communs (sauf le métro). Trop chronophage sur une durée de séjour si courte. Reste la location de voiture ou Uber qui marche très bien aux US.
La location de voiture est ce qui vous donnera une plus grande liberté. Pour 2 jours ça ne devrait pas être trop cher . Vous pourrez la laisser sur le parking de l'hôtel et prendre le métro pour vous rendre et revenir des studios (30 min). Depuis cet hôtel, le soir vous ne serez qu'à 20 min de l'Observatory en voiture. De plus vous pourrez profiter du J3 sans vous souciez du transport des valises qui seront dans le coffre de la voiture ;-)!
Le lendemain vous serez très bien placé pour aller sur Hollywood Bvd (20 min) et continuer en ligne "droite" pour Beverly Hills et Santa Monica (très sympa) et/ou Venice Beach (plus glauque sauf la partie des canaux).

Avez vous déjà dormi dans l hôtel que vous suggérez ? Je suis allée sur sa description et ils disent que c est tout à côté de l autoroute 101 !! Est ce vraiment bruyant !? Merci
Non je n'y suis jamais allée mais sur internet les gens ne se plaignent pas du bruits, c'est donc que ca ne doit pas être très bruyant. Ce qui revient souvent cependant c'est des critiques sur la taille du parking (petit) qui fait que les voitures se garent les unes derrière les autres et le petit déjeuner qui est inclus mais qui est très basic.
Il faudra voir le prix à vos dates et comparer avec les hôtels autours. Mais mon conseil est de rester dans ce coin là. Vous êtes vraiment à côté des points touristiques principaux et bien placé pour ensuite rejoindre les villes du bord de mer et l'aéroport ....
Attention aux prix des hôtels. Quand c'est à moins de $120 la nuit à L.A ça commence à craindre (sauf en auberge de jeunesse peut-être).
Nous avions dormi au Dunes Inn lors de notre premier séjour à LA.
Correct mais pas de petit déjeuner si je me rappel bien.
Par contre, il était déjà très éloigné Hollywood Blvd. (20 bonnes minutes à pied)... sachant qu'il est plus près que l'America Best Value Inn.
Lors d'un autre séjour, nous avions dormi au "Quality Inn Near Hollywood Walk of Fame" directement réservé sur le site de Choice Hotel.
Toutefois, nous l'avions réservé avec les points choice donc je ne pourrais vous donner son rapport qualité/prix mais l’hôtel était près d'Hollywood Blvd et en bon état avec de grandes chambres pour celle que nous avions.
Je "plussoie" le programme de Saladnicoise si l'idée est juste de découvrir LA pour les studios.
En Polynésie, du snorkelling tu en feras partout juste en mettant ta tête sous l'eau même à 2 pas de la rive!
Ne t'attarde pas trop à Papeete que nous avons trouvé assez moyen. Pour le choix des îles, des agences proposent des packages multi-îles, les grands classiques étant Moorea, Huahiné, Raiatéréa, Rangiroa, Bora-Bora. Regarde et compare. Sur une durée aussi courte, je me limiterai effectivement à 2 ou 3 îles.
Nous avions fait Mooréa, Huaniné, Bora-Bora et ça nous a convenu. Mais les autres sont très appréciées également. Choisir c'est exclure!
Pour LA, j'aurai loué une voiture, surtout si le temps vous est compté. Au prix d'un tel voyage, et comparé au reste, ce ne sont pas les 2jours de locs et de parking qui vont mettre les comptes dans le rouge 😛 😉

Je partage totalement ton avis. Cependant, l'auteur de ce message écrit qu'elle dispose de 15 jours en tout, auxquels il faut ôter les jours de transport (ce qui n'est pas négligeable 😉) et 3 nuits à LA. Donc il leur reste plutôt 8/9 nuits si je compte bien. Mais effectivement, sur le message d'origine, on lisait bien 5 nuits en PF...
5 nuits à LA ça te fait 4 jours sur place. Tout dépend de ce que tu veux voir. parmi les incontournables:
- une journée sur Santa Monica et Venice (louer un vélo, c'est le top)
- une journée sur Hollywood boulevard et montée à l'observatoire Griffith pour la vue superbe sur LA. Puis un stop à Beverly Hills
Après tu peux faire une journée sur Universal studios (bof!! un monde fou)
Sinon tu pars une journée sur Santa Clarita pour faire le parc de Six Flag magic mountains (énorme parc de coasters, à 1h de LA)
Voiture avec GPS indispensable à LA car transports quasi néant et pour rejoindre Santa Monica entre autre, c'est le mieux. N'hésite pas, les louers viennent te chercher à l'aéroport

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
We went as a family to Mount Rushmore in 2023, where my son bought a multi-function pocket knife like the one below with his name engraved—'NOAH'.
Unfortunately, he just lost it, and he was really attached to it. So, if there’s a kind soul passing by Mount Rushmore who could bring one back for me (I’d obviously cover all costs), that would be amazing for my son.

I know you can’t see into the future any better than I can, so I’m obviously not asking what the wildfire situation will be like in a month...
But if any of you could let me know if, CURRENTLY, there are major difficulties—not just for locals, of course, but for tourists as well?
We’re hesitating between taking the chance or canceling what we still can.
We’re not young anymore and don’t have the flexibility we once did...

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

We’ll be taking the flight from Nantes to Montreal and then from Montreal to Saint Pierre.

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

Just a few last questions to wrap up our Lake Tahoe visit plans.
**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?
Hi there. I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. For those who’ve done both Lower and Upper, can you tell me if the price difference is really justified? Thanks

As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.

Cinder Cone and Painted Dunes (Day 4)
Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?

Just a little post that might interest some of you:
Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.
