Cette année je pars début octobre à Madagascar pour quelques mois Là-bas j'aimerai circuler en moto..
QUESTION:Peut on facilement louer une moto sur une longue durée( un mois)? Quels sont approximativement les tarifs?
Vaux-t-il mieux acheter une "occas" et la revendre en partant?

Pour info. je pars en novembre pour 6 mois au moins. Je fais partir 1 mois et demi avant ma moto (une Aprilia 125 cm3 custom) par bateau (dans une caisse en bois) pour la somme de 650 euros. Je la revendrai la-bas. J'ai l'impression qu'il n'y a pas gd chose à acheter. A ton avis peut-on rouler sur des pistes avec une routière, surtout qu'elle a 7 ans et des pneus "terrain" n'existent plus.

Je pense qu'un custom sur les pistes ne va pas etre adapté. J'ai vécu des pistes aficaines et j'y ai appris que seul un trial pouvait aller... J'improviserai sur place (comme dab dans ce genre de voyage.) Je décolle vers Mada le 01 Octobre pour 3/4 mois Peut-etre pourrons nous nous croiser? Je te laisserai mon mail sur MP.

sinon il y a des locations de bonnes moto ici à diégo, pas de soucis je te recommande "location emmeraude" qui se trouve juste sur la rue colbert, et je crois qu'en ce moment le propriétaire vend une de ses moto un 350cc DR je crois.

On voudrait se balader pendant ces 3 semaines sur l'île et pourquoi pas en moto. Je vous lis et vous parlez de location moto, quels sont les Tarifs et est-ce qu'il est facile de se déplacer en moto sans guide ? J'ai récupérer une carte routière au 1/2.000.000 sur internet.

Une moto chinoise peut être adaptée aux pistes de mada, à condition de ne pas faire trop le bourin et de vérifier régulièrement le sérage des boulons!
J'ai fait un trajet de Tana à Antalaha à 2 + bagages, sur une 125cc, aucun soucis, bien sur c'est moins péchu qu'une japonnaise, mais accéptable.
Attention, certaines marques sont à éviter.
Pour l'idée acheter puis vendre, je peux ètre acheteur (sur Tamatave)
je compte partir moi aussi à cette période et enmener une moto à partir de la france pour la revndre au retour? d'autre internots on la même idée autant se grouper pour un passage du voyage, c'est sympa?
Il y a quelques mois que je suis rentré de Mada. Finalement j'ai loué sur place. Que ce soit à Tana ou Diègo, à Tuléar à Nosy Be ou encore à Tamatave... J'ai toujours trouvé une bécane. Des chinoises presque neuves pas très bonnes car peu puissantes sur les pistes mais sans trop de probs hormis les sauts de chaines. Sinon j'ai souvent trouvé de vieux XT 600 "Increvables". Bon trip à tous. Les pistes sont souvent difficiles ...mais que bonheur d'etre "libre".
oui c'est vrai quel bonheur d'étre libre à Mada, mais moi mon intention c'était de vraiment parcourir le pays en moto, la poser quelquepart ...pour mon retour en france et la reprendre par la suite, sinon au niveau des repas pendant ton voyage? et hébergement? merci et bonne journée😉

Mada est très grand :1800 kms du nord au sud....En trois mois j'en ai fait un peu le tour mais en faisant un Tuléar-Tana en transports en commun (avion).
Au niveau hebergement dans les villes, quand tu arrives qque part tu demandes une chambre...(A moins que tu n'aie déjà un point de chute prévu). Il y a toujours un malgache qui sait ou te trouver un chambre chez un particulier qui loue au black. Pour une chambre correcte en hotel malgache avec une douche qui peut fonctionner: comptes 3 à 4 euros (soit un billet de 10 000 là bas) On trouve moins cher en cherchant un peu. Pour la bouffe, C'est 1 euros dans la rue avec les malgaches... et autour de 4 euros si tu bouffes chez les Européens. A+
moi aussi je pars a mada pour trois mois, je voulais louer un 4x4 sans chauffeur mais ça à l'air impossible. donc j'ai pensé à la moto. peux tu me donner des tarifs, pour un mois de location? ou si je la garde trois mois, plutot acheter? arriverait on a passer entre tulear et fort dauphin avec? n'est ce pas trop contraignant: fatigue de la route, eviter le vol dans les villes? merci pour ta reponse.

Difficile de répondre à ta question car je ne louais les bécanes que pour 3 ou 4 jours pour des découvertes de pistes "locales". Pour les longs trajets j'utilisais les transports en commun. Sinon prix moyen pour une moto japonaise style XT 600 = 20 à 30 euros jour. Un peu moins cher pour les "Chinoises" (Mais à Mada tout se discute ...) Ne te laisses pas aller à laisser ton passeport au loueur. (Je me suis laissé dire que certains particuliers louaient leur propres bécane ?) De toutes façons à Mada demandes n'importe quoi à quelqu'un dans la rue et avec quelque menue monnaie tu trouveras . Bon Trip et prudence car la conduite des malgaches est quelque peu " Folklorique".

J'ai moi aussi l'intention d'aller faire un tour en moto à Mada. Mon projet est de faire parvenir une africa twin ou autre du meme genre par bateau (arrivée TAMATAVE) puis de rejoindre MORONDAVE. Le parcours me semble simple sans trop de risque.
Ensuite deux possibilités; retour sur tana pour vente de la moto et retour en europe ou si le temps le permet aller à fort dauphin par tuléar.
Je cherche quelqu'un avec une machine identique qui ferait le voyage en meme temps que moi ce qui implique que nous ayons les memes dates et les memes envies de découverte.
j'ai envie de descendre au maroc en moto (varad1000) courant 1er semestre 2008 au départ de France, itinéraire envisagé mais non figé > Tanger et descendre le long de la côte jusqu'à Essaouira, et pourquoi pas Ouarzazatte si je le sens bien.
Autre itinéraire possible en Tunisie de Tunis jusqu'à Tataouine.
Y aurait il des amateurs pour former un groupe sympas de copains (copines)

Je suis instalé à Madagascar toute l'année(tamatave) et je pars souvent en virée, et plus on est de fous, plus on rit !
Pour les tarifs de location, à partir de 10 jours de location mon tarif est de 12€ par jour (motos 125 chinoises), tarif moins élevé pour les location longue durée.
Pour des motos japonaises 600XT ou XR il existe des loueurs à Tana à partir de 50 € /jour

J'ai moi aussi l'envie des grands espaces...j'avais meme imaginé une virée vers le Mali en passant par DAKAR...mais j'ai peur d'avoir les yeux plus grand que l'estomac.
Pour ton idée de descendre sur le Maroc, je veux bien que nous en parlions d'autant que je suis en train de chercher une moto pour ce type de raid (Mada ou Maroc...presque pareil).
il est possible de louer une moto a madagascar pour une longue duree tu peu autrement en acheter une d'ocase
il y a un allemand qui loue des 600 honda transalp mais je te deconseille trop lourd pour les pistes malgache a tuleare il y a un concessionaire honda

Donc les vendeurs de motos, peuvent également louer des motos, à voir sur place
j'ai entendu dire ...
1) qu'il fallait des "autorisations spéciales", afin de pouvoir circuler en auto ou en moto ? faut-il se procurer des papiers dans une administration locale ?
2) les pompes à essence se font rare dés que l'on quitte les grands villes, et le risque est grand de tomber en panne sèche en "brousse" ?
3) en mai, la saison des pluies est-elle terminée comme à Mayotte, et les pistes sont-elles dégradées à cette période de l'année ?
pas de probleme pour trouver de l'essence meme si il y a peu de stations tu trouve des depot en futs de 200 litre dans beaucoup epicerie ou avec les pecheurs je n'ai jamais eu de probleme a ce niveau la je prevois tout de meme un bidon de 5 litre en secour et des que tu a la possibilite de faire le plein il faut le faire pour les papiers ne te soucis pas de cela eventuelement une assurance sur place derniere fois cela ma coute 15 euros pour trois semaines donc tu vois cela est raisonable fait toi faire un permis international c'est mieux pour la police comme çà s'il veule tenmerder tu peut toujours leur laisser mais moi qui est fait 4 raides moto je ne me suis fait arreter une seul fois a tuleare cela ma couter deux chemises publicitaires.on ne peut pas dire qu'il sois mechant.tu arrive directement a majunga ou a tana si tu arrive a tana j'ai des adresses pour louer mais ce sont souvent des 650 un peut lourd pour faire de la piste

Je suis sur le point de faire partir un 600 TENERE pour MADA et le récupérer à TAMATAVE pour faire un "grand tour" sur place : TAMATAVE-TANA-ANTSIRABE-AMBOSITRA-IFANADIANA-MANAKARA-FARANFAGANA-VANGAINDRANO-VONDROZO-IVOHIBE-IHOSY.
Le voyage est prévu à partir de septembre 2008 sur 4à 8 semaines. Je cherche quelqu'un qui serait interressé pour faire la route avec deux moto.

Il est très difficile de savoir à l'avance combien va te couter le passage en douane pour deux raisons : Le Tarif douanier malgache est très complexe et change en permanence. En plus des droits officiels il y a les dessous de tables quasi incontournables qui peuvent être importants.
c'est bien ce que je pensais j'avais possibilite de faire partir un transalp de france car en occase on trouve a pas cher mais le probleme de la douane a mada c'est comme tu l'explique
je vais voir avec un pote a diego pour qu'il puisse aller voir la douane la bas avoir un semblant de prix

la premiere annee j'avais louer un 600 transalp mais trop lourd on en a chier grave sur certaine pistes cela fait 5 raid que je fais a mada avec mon 200 et a part le manque de vitesse de celui ci sur des secteurs routiers elle va tres bien peut gourmande en essence et fiable
ma moto est base a diego je vais la metre en vente au mois d'avril a mon depart mais autrement a diego tu a deux garages ou tu peut trouver des becanes tu peut aussi acheter des motos chinoises si tu ne demande pas trop ça peut le faire mais pour moi se sont des grosses merdes tu les trouvent a 1200 euro la moto tu en a pour ton argent le probleme des chinoises s'est la partie cadre et fixation en generale prevoir le poste a souder

New to the forum, but not so new to Asia 😄
I’m Nico, from Switzerland, currently based in Bangkok. I love taking my motorcycle out to get lost in the mountains and small villages of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and more. I’ve been roaming around this area for a good fifteen years now, racking up quite a few kilometers—especially in northern Vietnam.
This time, I finally decided to tackle the Mae Hong Son Loop, clockwise. I’d been to Pai several times before, but oddly enough, I’d never done the full loop.
So, I’ll try to give you a little recap here, day by day, with the roads, stops, places worth checking out… and those that didn’t quite blow my mind 😅
I also filmed the trip, so I’ll post the corresponding video at the end of each day if that’s okay. If it’s not allowed here, just let me know, and I’ll remove them without any issue.
DAY 1 — Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon → Mae Chaem → Khun Yuam
I left Chiang Mai after renting a Honda ADV 160 from Pop Motorbike. Not exactly an Africa Twin, but for what I had planned, it was more than enough.
Quick hotel note: I stayed at the Lanna Thaphae Hotel before leaving. Around 30 € per night, super well-located, and probably one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. A crucial detail for any motorcycle road trip, obviously.
The plan for the day was pretty straightforward:
Head toward Doi Inthanon… and see what happens.
Flawless Swiss organization.
First stop along the way at Wachirathan Waterfall. A really nice waterfall, very easy to access, but don’t expect to channel your inner Indiana Jones—it’s crowded, touristy, and swimming isn’t allowed. Still, it’s a pretty stop along the way.
Next, up to Doi Inthanon.
The road climbs steeply, and my little 160cc started to realize that carrying my 80 kg to Thailand’s highest point probably wasn’t part of its youthful dreams. I was maxing out at 34 km/h in some spots.
But it made it. Good little bike.
The summit is nice—the forest is beautiful, and it’s cool—but I have to admit, it didn’t completely wow me. Glad I went, but not necessarily the highlight of the day for me.
Because then comes Route 1192.
And that’s *much* more my thing: small mountain roads, beautiful scenery, hardly any traffic… the kind of road where I usually start taking way too many unnecessary detours just because a little side road “looks fun.”
Stopped in Mae Chaem for a bite to eat, then headed to Khun Yuam to finish the day.
A little over 200 km in total.
Khun Yuam is… quiet.
*Very* quiet. 😅
A cute little market, a couple of cafés/restaurants, and zero chance of ending up in a club until 4 AM. But after a day on the bike, it was perfect.
Stayed at the Mit Khun Yuam Hotel, around 20 € for a small but very decent room.
All in all, a solid first day and a pretty relaxed start to the loop. Part of this leg is mostly about getting out of Chiang Mai and really diving into the mountains, in my opinion.
Because for me, the really interesting stuff starts over the next two days…
And a few slightly questionable route decisions will also make an appearance 😅

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m planning a sidecar trip to South America for 4 or 5 months at the end of this year.
I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Looking for travel companions to ride from France to Senegal by motorcycle.
I’m Paul, 37, and I’ve already done a bit of riding in Morocco.
For now, I’m solo, riding a 1998 SUZUKI DR 650 with some basic gear to keep things smooth. I’ll have a tent so we can do a few nights under the stars.

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?
