Je serai en Tahïlande du 19 au 30 décembre et j'aimerai passer quelques jours à Koh Wai.
Mon problème est qu'il n'y a que deux resorts sur l'île, et visiblement pas moyen de réserver... e+En me pointant comme ça, juste à la période de pointe de Noël, est-ce que je ne risque pas de me retrouver le bec danas l'eau, sans possibilité de me loger? Dans ce cas, est-ce que c'est jouable de dormir sur la plage?
Est-t-il préférable de tenter ma chance sur Koh Maak?
D'ailleurs, quels sont vos avis sur ces deux îles? Quels sont les avantages et les inconvenients de chacunes d'entre elles?
Je n'y suis jamais allée, mais il semble que ces deux îles correspondent à mon idéal: tranquilité, belle plage, mer chaude et pleine de jolis poissons et petits bungalows pas chers, peinards sur la plage. Je n'aime pas ni foule, ni le bruit de la techno et des générateurs. Et je ne recherche pas le luxe (sachant que je considère la clim, les bungalow en dur et l'eau chaude comme du luxe).
Pour ceux qui conaissent, j'ai par exemple adoré les îles Perhentian en Malaisie, en particulier Mira Beach sur Perhentian Kecil.

je suis allée l'année derniere sur kho WAi j'ai adoré, rien à faire que les poissons le farniente, la lecture, l'eau chauffée par le soleil et plus d'électricté après 22h30 23 h le générateur s'arrete ! pour ma part j'étais au kho wai paradise c 'est le premier arrêt des bateaux sur l'ile ( en effet que deux resorts), peut être que tu peux réserver à : explora tour à koh chang 01-86 17 672 c'est un italien andréa marié à une thai qui tient cette petite agence, ils sont adorables et tous les deux parlent très bien le français et c'est sa soeur à elle qui tient le resort de kho wai ;il y a aussi un mail : exploratour@gmail.com

Je suis passé devant Ko Wai pour aller à Ko Mak et ça a l'air très sympa. D'après mes infos il y a 6 "resorts" mais 2 sont autre chose que quelques bugalows plus style "guest houses".
Ko Mak est plus vaste et offre en plus de la plage la possibilité de balades dans l'île. Ko Wai est juste un rocher hors de l'eau.
Tu trouveras sur mon site (rubrique "Lieux/Iles désertes" l'email de Serge à Trat qui connait les deux îles à fond et qui saura mieux te renseigner.

Je ne savais pas qu'il y avait "autant" de possibilités de logements sur Koh wai. Je n'avais entendu parler que des deux "Resorts".
Peut-être que ça vaut le coup de tester les deux îles, deux-trois jours sur chacune. Ne rien avoir à faire à part se baigner, lire et trainer dans un hammack sont des challenges qui ne me font pas peur!!
Je n'ai fait que passer devant KO Wai donc je ne peux pas t'en dire plus. mes infos viennent de Serge et vraiment je t'invite à le contacter par email pour des infos plus "actualisées". Sinon faire les deux est une idée sympa...

En fait je crois que je vais passé une nuit à Trat avant de partir pour les îles. Je n'ai jamais séjourné dans cette ville, mais il paraît qu'elle est sympa, qu'on peut faire quelques courses pas chers avant de quitter le contient (à propos, y a moyen de trouver des clopes et des bières à Koh Wak? Quand je suis allée aux perhentians en malaisie, la petite bière fraiche qui agrémente agréablement le coucher du soleil manquait cruellement!!!!). Et comme ça, je pourrai surement avoir des renseignents tout frais sur les différentes îles et peut-être même rencontrer ce fameux Serges.
Je vais aussi lui écrire de ce pas!

Je suis alle il y a 1 mois a koh mak et a koh wai. J ai prefere Koh wai. Plus sympa, plages plus belles et bien mieux pour faire du tuba.
Sinon je compte retourner autour de koh Chang pour passer Noel. j ai dans l idee de reunir le plus de fancais possibles, que tout le monde ramene quelque chose, et de partir pour le reveillon sur un ile desserte. Si on est assez nombreux on peut affreter un bateau, sinon cést jouable de rejoindre une ile deserte en canoe. Donc s il y a des personnes motivees, faites moi signe.
bonsoir, il n'y a a koh way que 2 resorts (le koh way paradise et le pakkarang) et un guesthouse (le good feeling) (PAS PLUS ET HEUREUSEMENT )...et non pas 6 ( serge va devoir revoir ses infos et repasser a koh way pour aprofondire ses recheches, pas de place et pas asse d'eau non plus), bon a part ca ne pas hesiter a contacter Andrea (mon adorable beau frere) tres cool italien parlant francais et son adorable epouse ANN sans oublier la petite derniereTikki, donc Elodie tu as deja le numero de telephone que je t'ai donne par email quand tu m'a contacte sur mon site par hasard et celui ci va bien t'aider car dis lui que tu viens de la part de Bird, Cyril, Ann et Andrea car c'est la mere de mon epouse .. et la tu aurras une place en Or..juste stp si tu reserves ne lui fais pas faut bon . mais vraiment l'ile vaut le coup ...c'est grace a koh way que j'ai decider de rester ici....en revanche tu n'aimes pas les generateurs et la ca va poser probleme car il n'y a du courant que de 17h00 a 23h00 avec l'aide du generateur mais le bruit ne se fait pas entendre de trop (juste au dessus du restaurant si tu tends l'oreille mais rien d'inquietant). En revanche Arvie a vraiment apprecier cette ile et tu peux prendre son avis en compte...resultat le koh way Paradise est l'adresse que tu recherches et comme je te l'ai deja dis telephone de bangkok et demande a Nong si elle a un bungalow pour toi et comme ca tu n'aurras pas a dormir a Trat et tu pourras passer une nuit de plus au Paradis...sinon tu trouveras bieres et cigarettes a koh way sans aucun probleme + une excellente cuisine...et si il y a quelque chose qu'il n'y a pas demande a "Ran" au comptoir et le lendemain soir a l'arrivee du bateau tu l'aurras.....

Bonjour ElodieJe reviens juste de thailande et j'etais justement a koh wai...petite ile tres sympha ou fargnente et belle plage (a koh way paradise) plusieurs guest house mais seule celle la (koh wai paradise) est interressante et idelament située;.. je pense que tu pourras te renseigner sur les disponiblite sur koh chang..Moi j'y ai passe quelques jours car un pote a moi et prof de plonge sur baeng bao un petit village ou il fait bon sejournee sur koh chang (reculé, loin des plages touristiques) voila... si je peux t'aider plus, n'hesites pas!!!!
Au final, je n'aurais pas vu Ko Wai cette année, mais ça n'est que partie remise!!! Je garde le Ko Wai Paradise en mémoire pour mon prochain passage en Thaïlande!!
En fait lorsque je suis arrivée à Trat et que j'ai voulu réserver un bungalow à Ko Wai, il n'y avait plus de bateaux qui partaient sur l'île en raison des conditions météo (beaucoup de vent et donc des vagues de 3 à 4 mètres... pas compatible avec la navigation des bateaux locaux...).
Mais bon, le lendemain, il y avait une liaison avec ko maak et on a choisi de partir là-bas. C'est super (Voir Post "Un très bon plan logement à Ko Maak").
Bonne Annee a toi aussi Elodie... Content que tu es quand meme put aller su kow mak... On m'en avit du bien aussi... Bon je pense que tu t'es régalé et que tu as envie de repartir bientot lol.... Tu peux lire le récit de mes aventures à Ko Maak dans un post qui s'appelle "un très bon plan logement à Ko Maak". Il y a aussi un autre post récent sur cette île. En résumé: c'est vachement bien!!!
En ce qui concerne Ko Wai et Ko Kood, je n'ai malheureusement pas eu le temps d'y aller... Mais ça doit être top aussi d'après ce qu'on m'en a dit.
Question prix, sur Ko maak tu trouveras des bungalow vraiment pas chers, sans clim et sans TV!!!! Si tu veux quand même avoir une salle de bain privée, les prix doivent osciller entre 350 et 500 baths suivant les GH.
J'ai payé 450 baths pour un grand bungalow avec salle de bain. En comptant la bouffe, les multiples bières (c'est certainement ce qu'il y a de lus cher sur l'île!!) et quelques heures de location de moto, on a dépensé 5000 baths à deux en cinq jours (100 euros).

Moi j'ai choisi de zapper ko chang parce que je recherchais le calme. Je n'y suis pas allée depuis trois ans, mais tout le monde m'a dit que ça devenait un peu l'usine... J'avais plus envie de plages désertes que d'animation et de touristes tout rouges, donc je suis allée à Ko Maak direct.
Comme je ne connais ni ko kood, ni ko wai, je peux difficilement te conseiller pour faire un choix entre les trois îles... Mais elles sont probablement paradisiaques toutes les trois!!
Pour le choix d'une guesthouse sur ko maak, je te renvoie aux mêmes posts que précédemment. Tu trouveras forcément le bungalow de tes rêves (simple et au bord de l'eau) à ko maak et très probablement aussi sur ko kood et ko wai. Pour ko wai, tout le monde semble d'accord: il faut aller au ko wai paradise. pour ko kood, je ne sais pas, mais guette les messages sur le forum!
A part ça, non je n'ai pas contacté Andrea pour réserver un bungalow au ko wai paradise, car quand je suis arrivée à Trat, la mer était trop mauvaise pour que les bateaux puissent faire le trajet vers ko wai. Et c'est comme ça que j'ai fini par me retrouver à ko maak!
Et pour finir, du 26/02 au 10/03, je serai malheureusement entrain de me geler à Paris... Faut bien gagner des sous pour le prochain voyage!!

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. It’ll be our first time in Asia, and we’re thinking of hitting the classic spots in East Java and Bali, then wrapping up with a cruise around Komodo for some snorkeling/diving. Here’s a rough draft of our itinerary—I’m wondering if it’s doable.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
The idea is to know what to expect so we can prepare as best as possible. Thanks for your replies! !
