Nous sommes 4 amis de longue date et nous avons comme projet de réaliser une expédition vers le bout du monde : le Cap Nord ! Seulement nous souhaitons réaliser ce voyage en mobylette (Peugeot 103 et Motobecane 51) à partir de Grenoble aux mois de Novembre-Décembre prochains, soit :
* Un parcours long de plus de 8000km à travers la Suisse, l’Allemagne, le Danemark, la Suède, la Finlande, la Norvège, le Luxembourg et bien sûr la France.
* Un périple dans des conditions extrêmes à cheval entre automne et hiver : la pluie, le vent, le froid, la neige et surtout l’obscurité.
* Un voyage de 50 jours avec en moyenne près de 200km parcourus en mobylette chaque jour.
* Et enfin un itinéraire tracé selon l’originalité des paysages et la faisabilité du parcours.
Toutefois l'organisation d'un tel voyage ne s'improvise pas. Nous avons besoin d'un véritable soutien dans l'organisation, le montage et la promotion de ce périple.
Pour ce faire plusieurs questions :
Météo :
1 - quelles conditions climatiques sommes nous susceptibles de rencontrer en cette saison (Novembre-Décembre) notamment au nord de Tempere (Finlande), le long de la côte Norvégienne, et entre Trondheim et Oslo (via Tynset en Norvège) ?
2 - les routes principales *Tempere - Outu - Rovaniemi - Cap Nord*, *Cap Nord -Trondheim* et *Trondheim-Oslo" sont-elles déneigées ?
3 - quelles sont les heures d'ensoleillement de Oslo au Cap Nord en Novembre-Décembre ?
Budget :
Nous prévoyons un budget de plus de 20 000 euros pour l'ensemble de l'équipe
Quels partenaires (techniques et financiers) devons nous contacter ? Nous avons déjà pris contact avec le Conseil Général de l'Isère (Bourse de l'Aventure) ainsi que Millet (Projet Expéditions).
Equipements et matériels:
Nous avons dressé une liste du matériel que nous pensions emporter, mais nous avons encore quelques interrogations, notamment sur :
1 - la fiabilité des moteurs de la Peugeot 103 et Motobécane 51 en conditions extrèmes (Froid, gele, neige, glace et vent) ?
2 - rouler sur ces routes en cette saison, nécessite réelement d'adapté nos pneumatiques? Nous pensons clouter nos pneux.
Peut-étre l'un d'entre vous a t il réalisé ce type de voyage en cette saison ?
Je ne peux malheureusement pas te répondre à la totalitée de tes questions car je n'ai jamais voyagé vers ces pays là!
Cependant j'ai participé à quelques courses d'endurence de 24 heures en MBK 51. Mes adversaires roulaient soit en mbk 51 soit en 103 ou alors en scooter. Lors d'une course nous faisions environ 1180 km en 24H non-stop avec un moteur préparé qui sortait une puissance d'environ 10chevaux voir un peu moins. Ca permettait d'avoir une accélération équivalente à celle d'un scooter et d'avoir une vitesse de pointe de 95km/h
Tout ca pour dire que ces moteurs sont trés trés trés fiable! à ta place je travaillerai surtout sur le confort de conduite et l'eclairage pour eventuellement rouler la nuit! Ce qui serait pratique, ce serait que vous preniez tous le meme modèle de mob! Ca permettrait de répartir les pièces de rechange sur chacun. prévoir aussi la remise à neuf de ces vieux faisceau electriques! c'est assé simple à refaire... un piston des roulements et des joint neuf avant de partir et tu ne devrais pas avoir de souci pour toute la durée du voyage! privilégier aussi les allumages electroniques aux vieux système à vis platinée... je n'ai jamais eu à y toucher!
Oui, ça peut paraître bizare, mais justement c'est ce que nous recherchons. Ce projet est aussi un voyage vers soi. Une mise en difficulté voulue, pour découvrir celui qui se cache au fond de notre carlingue. Au même titre que les alpinsites grimpant les plus haut sommets en hiver, nous franchirons (enfin nous tenterons de franchir) les difficultés qui se présenteront afin d'en affronter de plus grandes.
A ma connaissance ce voyage en mobylette n'a jamais été réalisé, tout du moins en hiver. Mais peut être que je me trompe (déjà fait en voiture, en moto ainsi qu'en vélo, mais en moylette ?) Nous avons aussi cette impression de pouvoir ramener des images qui répondront à cette question.
En tout cas merci de l'intérêt que vous portez à notre projet.
Un truc en passant : prenez un peu de corde, ce celle qui entourent les colis.
On peut assez facilement en faire des "chaînes" pour les roues de cyclo.

Si je peut me permettre de rajouté:
votre projet est faisable, j'y ai vu 3 anglais par la bas en février 2007 en cyclo
c'était des sorte d'amigo honda je crois . le fait de le faire à plusieurs est rassurant
mais faut avoir les mêmes convictions des le départ, la haut sa peut viré aux cauchemar si
le risque n'est pas bien évalué.
Concernant vos montures l'idée de partir sur le même modelé de mobylette me semble
primordiale concernant une logique de pièces de rechange et de connaissance de l'engin
je vous conseille de vous fabriqué des "caisons" moteur pour roulé car vous allez avoir des problèmes
de sous chauffe : par exemple des boites à gateau métalique dépourvu de deux des côtés et à enfilé sur le moteur (face avant)
fixé par exemple sur l'axe supèrieur moteur. la face avant de ces caisons pourvu d'un grille fermable ( rapellez vous des surgrille de calandre de deuche).
Pare jambes en tube acier et plaque en ABS couvrant du pied au haut du réservoir + tablier
Dégraissé les cables passé de l'antigéle pur dans les gaines , (en passant) doublez tous les cables ce sera déja fait, virée les leviers en plastoc qui vont pété vers -20 C° pour des leviers en alu . Protége mains de motos cross avec manchon par dessus .
préférence aux vis platiné plutôt qu'a de l'électronique ou alors emporté le double voir le triple en éléctronique.
manchon en néopréne autour des amortos arrière et des foureaux de fourche ( j'ai déja vu un amorto pété par le froid et pas un amorto de cyclo !!)
J'ai des doutes sur les tambours ( petit en diamètre) qui vont vous en faire bavé ( risque de ce bloqué souvent ) et sur le plateau
( celui qui passe en mode vélo) si il est en plastoc changez le pour celui en fer.
pour les pneus ( c'est pas évident ce probléme ) , je vous conseillerai des sangles de 25 mm de large celle vendu avec un attache simple ( pas le cliquet) vous faitent un tour de jante avec le pneu , vous coupez ce qui reste, sur la partie se trouvant en contact avec la neige vous percez et monter des rivets inox ( la petite boule étânt côté neige bien sur , le plat du rivet côté pneus) va vous falloir un paquet de sangles ( plus a l'arrière qu'a l'avant).
Bref, vous allez en baver , mais c'est que du bonheur, je vous suivrai bien ..

J'y connais rien en mob, mais j'habite en Norvège. Après avoir lu votre post, j'ai fait bien attention et je suis formel : Les autochtones laissent les deux roues au garage durant l'hiver. J'ai passé quelques jours en montagne à Noel, et je peux vous dire qu'en convoi ds le noir derrière un chasse neige dans le blizzard et par -22, j'étais vachement content du confort relatif de ma voiture. Et j'étais qu'a 3 heures d'Oslo.
Blague à part, dans certaines conditions, et c'est assez fréquent, on ne peut traverser cols et plateaux qu'en convoi, et je doute que la maréchaussée vous autorise à vous y joindre en mob.
Je vais me renseigner auprès de mes collègues norvégiens sur la faisabilité de votre joli projet, et je vous tiens au courant.

Une Mob tient mieux sur la neige que vous ne le pensez, par ailleurs.

C'est pourquoi nous tenons à nous préparer le plus sérieusement possible. Nous avons encore un peu de temps devant nous, et nous réfléchissons à la manière de communiquer autour de notre projet (montage asso, site internet..). Le but étant d'attirer des financeurs potentiels qui seraient intéressés par notre projet de voyage.
Nous en avons déjà parler autour de nous et les réactions sont contrastées. Cela va de : “c’est super, j’en ai toujours rêvé” à “vous êtes complètement barjo” en passant par “vous êtes courageux pour faire ça”. Bref tout ça pour dire que notre but est de voir un petit bout du monde, de vivre et d'expérimenter quelque chose de différent. Mais comme tu l'as dit Tatra, ça ne sera pas facile !

Concernant donc la possibilité de roulé en deux roues là haut il n'y aucun soussi, Le Kristall Rally est une concentre moto sympa j'y suis aller mais cette concentre ce trouvant juste au dessus de Lillehammer soit au sud de la Norge,
vous pouvez peut étre trouver aussi de cliché des condition en haut en essayant de trouvé des récit sur les concentres motard ce trouvant là haut, le "primus rally" et une des concentre les plus dur à mon avis ce trouvant proche du Norkapp.
J'ai des amis ( retraités )qui vont la haut tous les hivers , ça roule plus que l'on ne crois
Concernant l'essence c'est un soussi également que je n'ai pas ( ma moto est de type "marathon" double réservoir 43 litres )
je pense qu'il faut mini une autonomie de 300 kilométres mais prévoyez plus , les mobs consomme peu heureusement.
équipé vous bien en vestimentaire, c'est très chère mais primordial , mes amis ont déja vu le thermomètre descendre à moins 40 C°
faut en être conscient mais bien équipé c'est que du bonheur.

Le cap Nord en mob, sympa comme projet. Par contre, en hiver cela risque d'être difficile et éprouvant...
Le 51 motobécane est 1 excellent choix puisque en 1979 (déjà) j'ai relié Bordeaux à la Mer Noire (11000km AR et 5 mois de voyage).

Vous avez l'intention de mettre des gros réservoirs sur vos mobs? Il y a des passages où les stations service sont assez éloignées. De plus, beaucoup de stations sont automatiques et ma carte française ne fonctionnait jamais, pensez-y

New to the forum, but not so new to Asia 😄
I’m Nico, from Switzerland, currently based in Bangkok. I love taking my motorcycle out to get lost in the mountains and small villages of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and more. I’ve been roaming around this area for a good fifteen years now, racking up quite a few kilometers—especially in northern Vietnam.
This time, I finally decided to tackle the Mae Hong Son Loop, clockwise. I’d been to Pai several times before, but oddly enough, I’d never done the full loop.
So, I’ll try to give you a little recap here, day by day, with the roads, stops, places worth checking out… and those that didn’t quite blow my mind 😅
I also filmed the trip, so I’ll post the corresponding video at the end of each day if that’s okay. If it’s not allowed here, just let me know, and I’ll remove them without any issue.
DAY 1 — Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon → Mae Chaem → Khun Yuam
I left Chiang Mai after renting a Honda ADV 160 from Pop Motorbike. Not exactly an Africa Twin, but for what I had planned, it was more than enough.
Quick hotel note: I stayed at the Lanna Thaphae Hotel before leaving. Around 30 € per night, super well-located, and probably one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. A crucial detail for any motorcycle road trip, obviously.
The plan for the day was pretty straightforward:
Head toward Doi Inthanon… and see what happens.
Flawless Swiss organization.
First stop along the way at Wachirathan Waterfall. A really nice waterfall, very easy to access, but don’t expect to channel your inner Indiana Jones—it’s crowded, touristy, and swimming isn’t allowed. Still, it’s a pretty stop along the way.
Next, up to Doi Inthanon.
The road climbs steeply, and my little 160cc started to realize that carrying my 80 kg to Thailand’s highest point probably wasn’t part of its youthful dreams. I was maxing out at 34 km/h in some spots.
But it made it. Good little bike.
The summit is nice—the forest is beautiful, and it’s cool—but I have to admit, it didn’t completely wow me. Glad I went, but not necessarily the highlight of the day for me.
Because then comes Route 1192.
And that’s *much* more my thing: small mountain roads, beautiful scenery, hardly any traffic… the kind of road where I usually start taking way too many unnecessary detours just because a little side road “looks fun.”
Stopped in Mae Chaem for a bite to eat, then headed to Khun Yuam to finish the day.
A little over 200 km in total.
Khun Yuam is… quiet.
*Very* quiet. 😅
A cute little market, a couple of cafés/restaurants, and zero chance of ending up in a club until 4 AM. But after a day on the bike, it was perfect.
Stayed at the Mit Khun Yuam Hotel, around 20 € for a small but very decent room.
All in all, a solid first day and a pretty relaxed start to the loop. Part of this leg is mostly about getting out of Chiang Mai and really diving into the mountains, in my opinion.
Because for me, the really interesting stuff starts over the next two days…
And a few slightly questionable route decisions will also make an appearance 😅

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

I'm seriously considering heading to Nepal to do some nice motorcycle loops... my goal is also to do the Kailash Yatra round trip from Kathmandu, in a small group with a guide, in May '26... but here's the thing—I'm solo! Hello everyone! Like every year, a winter migration is on the horizon (revised plan): this time, it’ll be Dakar, or even Abidjan, via Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal.
Looking for an experienced motorcyclist or pillion rider—small build preferred—on a GSA 1250 with a comfy seat and luggage setup, available from early November to late December 2025. I’d like to plan the trip together (important to me) to make sure we’re on the same wavelength.

Looking for travel companions to ride from France to Senegal by motorcycle.
I’m Paul, 37, and I’ve already done a bit of riding in Morocco.
For now, I’m solo, riding a 1998 SUZUKI DR 650 with some basic gear to keep things smooth. I’ll have a tent so we can do a few nights under the stars.
We’ll need to coordinate departure dates—"ideally in November."

We’re thinking of renting motorbikes, especially to do the Ha Giang Loop. We don’t have an international license, just our Belgian one. Is that enough? If not, is it risky?

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?
I understand we need to book online rather than on-site.
