déja ce qui est sur, ne vas pas à Boracay pour plonger ! Il y a quelques années sur pas mal de sites les coraux ont été détruits par des étoiles de mer. Donc paysage lunaire.... Il reste des sites intéressants, mais plus tellement et plus profond. Je ne pense pas que ça aille mieux maintenant, il faut beaucoup plus de temps.
Par contre Boracay peut etre un bon endroit pour trouver un bateau pour aller faire quelques jours de plongée sur Apo reef.
Je ne connais pas du tout Palawan, mais la réputation est très bonne, nombreuses épaves.
En ce qui concerne Bohol, il y a plusieurs sites. Ils sont plutot sympas.
Tu y trouveras aussi des infos sur 2 sites dont tu ne parles pas et que je te recommande : Dumaguete et Malapascua.
Dumaguete sur l'ile de Negros, en fait c'est à Dauin juste à coté. Enormément de petites choses à voir : hippocampe, nudibranche, ....Si tu aimes la macro tu vas etre servi ! Mais il faut un bon guide....De plus à partir de la tu peux aller à Apo Island.
Pour moi Malapascua reste la meilleure option. Tu peux y voir des requins renard (enfin j'espère ! il y étaient il y a 4 ans en tous cas....), des raies mantas selon la saison. Il y a également d'autres spots tres intéressants avec plusieurs especes de requins, langoustes, .... Bref, très varié !!!
Autre spot très sympa, réputé etre le meilleur des philippines (je n'y suis pas allé), Tubbatha Reef, entre palawan et les iles plus au sud....
Plongeurs débutant (n'ayant que expérience que le PADI Open Water passé il y a 2 ans en Thailande), nous voudrions lors de l'une des étapes de notre voyage (à savoir Palawan, Bohol, et Borocay), passer le PADI Advanced Open Water.
Evidemment cela n'exclut pas de faire une autre plongée sur l'un des 2 autres sites mais la question a donc essentiellement pour but de connaître l'endroit idéal sur notre parcours pour passer le PADI Advanced Open Water... (sachant qu'au niveau des prix, cela se vaut).
Je pense que le problème du choix est le meme.
Quand tu passes ton Advanced OW tu fait des exercices, mais également une partie ballade, exploration, découverte. Donc tant qu'à faire autant que le cadre qui t'entoure soit joli !
Donc à mon avis évite Boracay pour cela, faire tes exercices au milieu du sable, c'est quand meme moin sympa que lorsque tu es entouré de coraux !
Sinon concernant le club qui assure la formation, personnellement je préfère souvent passer par des clubs avec des instructeurs allemands (ils sont nombreux aux phils dans la plongée) ou européens plutot qu'anglais ou australiens, mais c'est un choix perso, à toi de voir ce qui te convient le mieux...
L'interet de Coron à Palawan c'est que tu vas pouvoir faire du wreck diving sur des epaves japonaise, ca vaut vraiment le coup. Tu vas aussi pouvoir plonger dans un lac interieur, c'est excellent : à Coron island.
Et tu as apres tous les spots classique de reefs.
Tu as 2 agences juste pres du marché de Coron qui font hotel, il y avait des instructeurs francophones aux 2 endroits.
panglao island sur bohol, c'est pas mal aussi, mais moins varié que Coron.
dernier detail : à Coron même il n'y a pas de plage, c'est vraiment les purs divers qui y vont. Alors qu'à panglao tu auras aussi une plage sympa...
EL nido est devenu quelconque a mes yeux pour la plongée et aussi aupres de ceux avec qui j'ai parlé.

Dumaguete, je connais pas le coin dont la personne parle, c'est au sud de dumaguete, non?
Malaspacua : c'est l'endroit qui monte touristiquement aux philippines actuellement, mais je ne connais pas, malheureusement.
oui Dauin en fait c'est à quelques km au sud de Dumaguete... Il y a notament 2 hotels assez gros dans lesquels on trouve des clubs de plongée. L'hotel le plus au sud bosse avec Sea Explorers dont j'ai donné le lien. Niveau budget il y a un dortoir dans cet hotel donc ça passe....
Malapascua j'y suis allé en 2001 c'était très calme... Il y avait quand meme déja 3-4 clubs de plongé, mais presque pas de restau/bars. A voir ce que c'est devenu....
Je ne peux pas comparer avec Coron, mais Alona beach sur Panglao Island est un bon compromis ! Tu peux y voir des barracudas, tortues sur le site de Balicasag, ou des choses plus petites (genre frogfish, demande au guide sinon tu les verras pas !) sur d'autres sites....
Au sujet de Boracay, c'est une très jolie ile de sable blanc où il fait bon de siroter un cocktail mais niveau plongée, ça n'a pas le charme de Bohol ou de Palawan. Certaines plongée profonde comme Yapak permettent de voir des requins mais ce n'est pas garanti et attention le courant. Crocodiles Island est aussi l'une des plongée éventuelle a faire sur Boracay. Je recommande tout de meme bien plus les plongées à Palawan et Bohol.
Pour Bohol, les plongées sont relativemment faciles, en général peu de courant (selon les sites bien évidemment) et possibilité de descendre profond mais l'idéal est de rester dans les 10-15m. La visibilité est en moyenne de 20mètres tout au long de l'année mais descend rarement en dessous de 15mètres. De très jolis coraux mous sur Cabilao et pas mal de macro à faire (ceci dit il est devenu rare d'y voir les requins marteaux). Pamilacan un spectacle lunaire, beaucoup de lutjans, des barracudas solitaires (le courant y est parfois vif). A Panglao je conseille Arco point qui est un joli mur avec une grotte et toujours toujours des spécialités à voir (nudibranch, frog fish...) Ray Point pour ceux qui aime chercher le minuscule est une pente de sable fabuleuse où l'on appercoit souvent des ghost pipe fish, des soles, des frog fish, des snake eel, j'en passe et des meilleures. Balicasag c'est génial, des super coraux des bancs de carrangues et de barracudas enormes et tortues. A conseiller, les sites de royal garden, black forest et cathedral.
Pour Palawan, le mieux est d'aller à Coron Busuanga pour voir les épaves japonnaises coulées lors de la seconde guerre mondiale. Pénetrer les chambres impressionnantes de ses épaves massives est une expérience à part. Ceci dit, renseigner vous sur les conditions météo avant de vous y rendre car l'immensité de ses épaves n'a un réel effet que lorsque la visibilité est au rendez vous. Beaucoup de ses épaves sont situées à près de 30mètres donc prévoyer des plongées profondes, etre certifié pour la plongée Nitrox est un gros plus a Palawan.
L'avantage des visayas c'est que c'est facile d'accès. A choisir entre, Boracay, Palawan et Bohol je dirai que le choix se fait plutot entre Borocay, Palawan et les Visayas.
En étant dans les visayas, vous aurez la possibilité de faire plusieurs destinations sans perdre trop de temps dans les transports.
1ere etape Bohol:
Bohol (tagbilaran) est à 1h d'avion de Manille et 2h de bateau de cebu. C'est facile d'accès, les plongées à Panglao et notamment Balicasag sont très jolies avec de beaux tombants en courbes et beaucoup de poissons et notamment des bancs de carrangues et de barracudas gigantesques.
Pas mal d'infos sur la plongée à Bohol et des liens pratiques vers des sites météo, marée ...
2eme étape Dumaguete:
De bohol vous etes a 2h de bateau de dumaguete. Il y en a plusieurs au départ de tagbilaran (1 le matin et 1 l'après midi). Les plongées de dauin et apo island sont réputées pour la qualité de leurs coraux. il y a aussi de jolies plongée macro a faire à la recherche de pegasus et pieuvres.
3ème étape Moalboal:
Depuis dumaguete, vous pouvez rejoindre moalboal par le sud de cebu. Il faut prendre le bateau à tambi ou sibulan et vous arriverez dans les sud de cebu respectivement à bato ou liloan, et de là prenez le bus direction moalboal. il faut compter en tout 2h et demi à 3 h de trajet entre dumaguete et moalboal. moalboal et pescador ont de belles plongées avec de grands bancs de sardines et pas mal de tortues meme a quelques minutes de la plages de panagsama.

We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.
Are there any good options in July-August for great experiences in the area?

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...
I’m planning to get back into the bubbles somewhere this year.

We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

With my advanced certification in hand for a few years now, I’m on the lookout for the best dive spots in Malaysia.
I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?
Dive centers you’d recommend?

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

I’ve been in Malaysia for a month now and still have two more to go. I started traveling with friends, but I’ll be solo for the next month and a half.
We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

Any thoughts on the diving there?
So far, I haven’t had much luck with diving—at the Perhentians, it was pretty disastrous with water at 31°C 😵😫
I’d love to find a nice island where I can meet people (locals and travelers) because going from a group of six to solo at the end is going to feel weird.

notre voyage en Indonésie étant annulé, et notre agence nous déconseillant l'Egypte, nous sommes à la recherche d'un lieu où nous pourrons faire du snorkeling depuis la plage (et en excursion bateau). Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Ce que j'aime en plongée c'est l'eau claire, les fonds marins attrayants, la vie aquatique particulière, etc. Je ne suis pas une fan d'épaves, mais je considérerai tout les sites / pays proposés :)
