Je compte partir avec un ami en Thaïlande, du 19 novembre au 11 décembre.
Nous avons 20 ans, et travaillons tout deux dans la restauration. Après une bien dure saison,
nous comptons nous pavaner 25 jours (bien mérités) en Thaïlande, alternant fêtes de folie, farniente et visites culturelles/découverte et re-fêtes de folie.
Budget prévisionnel et non définitif; 50€ par jour pour l'hébergement, nourriture & boissons, sorties et excursions.
Je vais vous détailler ci-dessous, l'esquisse de mon road book et ses grandes lignes, puis je vous poserai les quelques questions qui trottent dans ma tête depuis quelques jours;
20nov; Nous arriverons à 7h50 heure locale. Vol avec Emirates A/R : 534€ avec 3 heure de stop à Dubaï. Nous comptons réserver deux nuits sur Bangkok au New Siam Riverside THB 1490, soit 33€. Check-in en début d'après-midi. Petit tours sur le Chao Praya, Grand Palais. Le soir sur KhaoSan Road pour festoyer.

Mes quelques questions dans l'ordre chronologique du road book;Bangkok; Avez-vous des bon plans/ bonnes adresses pour faire la fête, et quels sont les pièges à touriste à éviter aux alentours de KhaoSan Road ? Connaissez-vous un autre Rooftop Bar sur Bkk? De bonnes attractions pour jeunes sur Bangkok?Phuket - Patong ; Grosse hésitation pour Patong, j'ai eu quelques retours négatifs, bien que festif, Patong s'apparente comme une ville pas très safe le soir, limite dangereuse... Vrai/faux? Je sais que ce n'est pas le plus bel endroit de Thaïlande, loin de là, d'où mon hésitation... C'est juste 3 nuits... Koh Phan Gan / Koh Tao : Nous y allons en période de FULL MOON, où (sur quelle île) faut-il se loger? est-ce plus cher? Et comment s'organiser pour festoyer sans grand risque? Nous aurions bien aimé trouver une excursion "sensation" du style sauter de falaise dans l'eau, savez-vous si ce genre d'excursion est possible au départ de PhiPhi/Lanta/Phuket ou Ao Nang?Comment pourrions-nous économiser de l'argent sur les transports? Perso je ne me permets jamais de discuter les étapes prévues par un VForumiste (au passage, bravo, on sent que vous avez bossé votre sujet, vous n'attendez pas "tout" du Forum comme...certains 🤪), mais je pense que vous sous-estimez votre budget journalier, en particulier le poste "teuf" et "activités" (je prédis même que je ne serai pas le seul, parmi vos généreux contributeurs, à vous le dire/bassiner).J'ai croisé lors de mes passages dans le Pays, des jeunes qui avançaient leur retour aprés avoir tout claqué (en teuf, quads, scoots...) au bout de 2 semaines....(ça n'arrive pas qu'aux autres!!)
Un petit conseil: ne gâchez pas vos "vacances de ouf/malades" un soir de fête; vigilence sur votre "carburant", sur vos papiers (sortez avec des copies)/argent...(pardon de jouer les Cassandre mais ça n'arrive pas qu'aux autres!!!)
Je vous conseille de lire sur le forum les discussions traîtant de la location de motorbike: conseils sur les démarches, sur ses dangers etc...En bref, ne jamais donner en gage au loueur l'original de son passeport/permis de conduire, bien s'accorder sur l'état du véhicule (photos au besoin), rouler cool et casqué.
A part ça, juste p r o f i t e z et r e s p e c t e z (vous-même et les autres).
Effectivement j'ai vu pas mal de feed-back de jeunes qui claquaient tout leur pécule trop rapidement, surtout dans les premiers jours, c'est le piège.
Je suis briefé sur tout ce qui est sécu en soirée (papier, argent...)/sur la route, c'est vrai qu'il faut faire gaffe!
Tu peux te permettre de discuter les étapes prévues, elles ne sont justement pas définitives, et de bons conseils, ici, nous permettrons d'ajuster notre road-book.
Pour le budget, peut-être sous estimé, combien faudrait-il par jour, afin de profiter sans (trop) se priver, mais sans faire d'excès tous les jours?

Budget 50€ / jours, ça me parait correct pour le poste hébergement / Nourriture / Boissons
50€ = en gros 2000 bath
A la louche et en ne se jetant pas dans le premier piège à touriste venu :
1000 bath chambre un peu confortable.
400 bath nourriture dans petits resto, avec bonnes spécialités thaïe.
600 bath sortir, en gros 7 bières et quelques à 80 bath la bière, de quoi se mettre à l'aise.
Vous pouvez moduler après selon ce que coûtent les excursions ou si vous voulez privilégier un poste de dépense:
Réduire le prix de la Chambre en prenant plus bas de gamme ou vous prenez une chambre pour deux
Réduire le prix de la nourriture en prenant les plats les plus simples (noodle soup, fried rice, pad thai...)
Acheter une partie de l'alcool au supermarché / être sobre
Pour vos deux premières questions:
Bangkok; Avez-vous des bon plans/ bonnes adresses pour faire la fête, et quels sont les pièges à touriste à éviter aux alentours de KhaoSan Road ? Connaissez-vous un autre Rooftop Bar sur Bkk? De bonnes attractions pour jeunes sur Bangkok?
Ne vous inquiétez pas pour faire la fête à KhaoSanRoad: la rue est bondée de terrasses servant des litres d'alcool aux hordes de jeunes et moins jeunes routard... encore faut-il que ce soit votre truc.

Patong est assez peu intéressant avec de nombreux pièges à touristes. C'est effectivement festif avec de nombreux bars. Je n'ai pas trouvé le coin particulièrement dangereux mais par contre évitez toute altercation avec les thais qui bossent dans les bars, restaurants, taxis, boites, même si vous avez le sentiment de vous être fait entuber.

Je ne me permettrais pas de discuter votre pré-programme:
1-C'est votre choix, apparemment pas fait "à l'arrache", mais pensé.On ne choisit pas une étape au hasard, elle répond à une attente/envie.
2-Nous n'avons ni le même age (moi 48), ni la même expérience du voyage (25 ans de sac-à-dos), donc forcément nos motivations sont différentes.Je ne connais ni Phuket, ni Koh Lanta, ni Koh Phi Phi, ni le spot d'escalade prés de Krabi (même en une 10aine de séjour depuis début 90' au PDS, et sans regrets, pas ma tasse de thé...).
Je laisse donc à mes autres camarades de VF la liberté de le faire.
Pour le budget, là encore c'est délicat de chiffrer.Je ne loue jamais de jet-ski, quads, je ne recours pas à des agences pour mes activités&visites, je ne prends jamais de vols intérieurs, je préfère les ferries aux speed boats, une bière/jour me suffit (non, non, je vous assure, je me régale en voyage héhé). Perso je dépasse rarement 600 baths (15euros en gros) pour une chambre double/bungalow, dénichée sur place/sans résa (je voyage généralement en moyenne saison touristique), je mange le plus souvent possible sur les marchés (meilleurs, moins chers, plus variés, plus frais que les petits restos dits "à-touristes", autour des guesthouses), pour un coût du dîner de 6 à 7 euros environ/p.
Ces exemples doivent vous laisser penser que vous êtes largement "dans les cordes", mais le "problème", pour vous, c'est que toutes les "petites dépenses" que vous prévoyez, certes moins onéreuses qu'en France, cumulées font vite grimper le budget au final.Ceci dit, ne stressez pas, vous serez à temps, sur place, d'ajuster votre train de vie.
Surtout pour un premier trip, les choses ne se passent jamais comme on les avait prévues.Ca va être une super expérience pour vous, c'est sûr!!!! D'autant que vous n'imaginez peut-être pas comme visiter la Thaïlande est affaire easy.

pour le budget si vous etes 2 c'est 100euro par jour si vous partager le logement et l'eventuelle location de scoot ou autre?
ca passe en sachant que ce qui fait vite exploser le budget sont l'alcool et les filles;donc a vous de gerer ;
pour l'itinéraire je trouve ca super chargé; l'envie de" tout connaitre fait qu'on fait souvent tout en speed et qu'on passe bcp de temps en transport.
patong c'est pas plus dangereux qu'ailleurs , il suffit de se mettre dans l'ambiance locale pas trop chercher a imposer son "style" ;le sourire etant le meilleur passeport .
pour info en haute saison vous pouvez trouvez des hebergements pour moins de 1000baths pratiquement partout.AVEC UN BON NIVEAU de comfort , eau chaude sanitaire ventilo ou clim;

Un peu trop chargé a mon avis, mais je comprends que vous ayez envie d'aller partout... Je choisirais OU le cote Phuket OU le cote Samui, pas les 2... D'autant plus que ça economiserait pas mal d'argent de n'en faire qu'un seul, ne serait-ce que pour le trajet.
Il y a autant de dangers à aller a la Full moon que de rester à Patong....
Patong est un quartier de Phuket qui représente, je dirai, 1% de l'ile....Il reste 99%....

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
