Hi there, I’ll be passing through Portugal for a month. Any recommendations for choosing a SIM card and a phone plan with heavy internet usage? Something like a 100GB 4G plan. Do you know how much that would cost?

Have a great summer!

In Portugal, I keep my French phone plan for calls. For internet, I buy a data SIM card that I put in a second phone (yes, I know, you need one) and then set it up as a hotspot for my main phone and tablet.

With Nos, it’s 15 € for 15 days, unlimited data. Avoid Vodafone—it’s the same price but only 2GB per day.

Forget about prepaid 4G/DATA SIM cards—they max out at 5GB...

Hi there,

I’m following this thread because I’m also looking for info on getting internet in Portugal on my phone (using a SIM card).

I checked out Nos at https://www.nos.pt/, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for (honestly, I’m not great with tech stuff 🤪).

What I need—from what I’ve gathered—is at least 100 GB per month to watch TV and movies on my tablet.

Does anyone know of a provider that offers unlimited data, for example?

Thanks

You shouldn’t expect to find in Portugal what doesn’t exist in France. There’s no unlimited data plan, and a monthly 100 GB plan from Orange, for example (valid in Portugal), costs 50 € per month (but with a 24-month commitment).

The only no-contract unlimited option is the NOS DATA SIM, which I mentioned above.

That said, 100 GB a month is still a lot—it must be around 5 hours of video per day...

Hi,

As I mentioned above, I don’t know anything about this—I read that streaming a movie uses about 1 to 3 GB.

Is SIM DATA what I need here?: https://www.nos.pt/particulares/internet/internet-movel/tarifarios/Paginas/tarifarios-por-carregamento.aspx

Yes, that sounds right. In any case, that's the idea—no phone number, and it can be slipped into a case (Vodafone’s is cheaper).

A movie is usually between 1 and 2 GB.

Now Vodafone has unlimited internet SIM cards for 15 days or 1 month on 5G for 20 € and 30 €, I think. Just check their website.
