10 ans de mariage et un voyage en Thailande pour fêter ça. C'est super sympa mais j'aurais besoin de quelques conseils avisés.
Il s'agit d'un circuit organisé (ben oui je ne me débrouille plus en anglais, alors...) à priori intéressant mais qui se termine par 3 jours à Pattaya (Jomtien exactement) et là, je crains le pire !
Qu'est-ce qu'on peut faire depuis Jomtien, à part les massages et la plage ? (pas mon truc la place) Peut-on raisonnablement retourner une journée à Bangkok et par quels moyens ? ou bien y-a t-il un autre endroit ou l'on peut faire un shoping sympa avant de repartir ? des villages à visiter ?

Jomtien est trés touristique, à part la plage je ne vois pas ce qu'il y a à faire...Donc en effet tu peux faire un tour à Bkk, en prenant un bus (100 bath=2€!).Le matin de préférence et aller faire du shopping au MBK: un departement store super sympa(jean;ee-shirt, artisana, electronique...et c'est climatisé!!!Mais il y a aussi la visite du What Arun(porte-bonheur😄), si il n'était pas prévu dans ton programme..et le quartier de Chinatown:une merveille à ne pas rater...ou bien le marché de Chattuchak(seulement les samedi et dimanche)....Tu peux même te baigner au Siam Park!!
Pataya est à éviter surtout parceque c'est la capitale mondiale du tourisme sexuel, ça pue...( à Bkk c'est beaucoup plus discret...)De plus c'est hyper pollué Pataya!!!On sent tout de même que les affairistes thais qui ont investi cette région privilégient l'argent....
Autre moyen le taxi: c'est plus cher(1000bath allé_retour!!négociable...);mais surtout ça ne te permet pas de réellement "visiter" la Thailande profonde...comme le bus!!!

Tu as raison, 2 heures de trajet ce n'est rien quand il y a tant à découvrir et je préfère aussi voyager par les moyens locaux lorsque c'est possible. C'est toujours une meilleure façon de s'immerger dans la culture de l'endroit et c'est une vision plus authentique

Sache quand meme que meme si Pattaya-Jomtien, c'est plutot moche, il y a egalement beaucoup de choses a faire. Notamment du sport: il y a beaucoup de beaux golfs, du tennis, des sports d'eau...il y a aussi des magasins et des restaurants...
Si ca te deplait vraiment, au lieu de te taper le bus aller retour pour bangkok, prends toi un hotel pas cher a bangkok et puis voila (a partir de 10-15 euros la nuit tu as un truc raisonnable)
1.000 Bts pour un aller et retour Pattaya-BKK en taxi ! Tu me sembles mieux renseigné que moi car la dernière fois en juin 2005, je n'ai pas pu avoir moins cher que 1.000 Bts pour un aller simple. (alors que 6 mois avant, j'avais payé 800 Bts) Cela voudrait-il dire qu'ils t'offrent le retour gratos ? j'en doute, mais si tu as des infos ou un n° de tél, je suis preneur. Merci.
Le sport c'est impeccable pour se remettre en forme, mais là, je n'ai pas vraiment envie d'aller si loin pour faire ce que je peux trouver chez moi. Par contre je peux effectivement envisager un retour sur Bangkok avec une nuit d'hôtel et rester une journée à Jomtien, le temps d'aller voir les îles

😉On peut toujours bien négocier un aller retour Jiomptien-Bkk pour 1000bath, il suffit de négocier vraiment!!Il y a plein de taxis..les plus chers sont ceux qui travaillent le moins!!
Le mois de Juin n'est peut-être pas la meilleure saison pour y aller!!
Et Jomptien est moins loin que Pataya!!
De toute façon je préfère les bus!na!😄
Autre chose:la jim Thomson House(pour y boire un thé!) tu peux t'y rendre en prenant le bateau bus qui peut même t'emmener jusqu'ç Bo Bee marquet et prés du Wat Sakhet;l'hotel Oriental;Bo Bee Market!
Le marché aux amulettes du dimanche;la snake farm, située dans la jungle vers Nonthabury(c'est pour l'atmosphère!!), en passant devant les barges royale;le quartier de Pratunam(et la Bayoke tower):un marché de fringue de folie...même Sukhumvit en pleine journée c'est pas si mal:prendre le Skytrain, c'est cool!😉

Si tu veux passer une super journée dans un parc extraordinaire, tu as "Nong Nooch Tropical Garden" avec différents shows (éléphants, danses traditionnelles, etc...) mais aussi plusieurs restos, ballades à dos d'éléphant, mini zoo, et des jardins MAGNIFIQUES... A voir absolument aux alentours de Pattaya (à 25 kms sur Sukhumvit road.
A Pattaya, tu demandes à un taxi "songtaeo" (les pick-up taxi) de t'emmener et de t'attendre pour la journée (prix à négocier entre 700 et 800 bahts, soit entre 14 et 16 euros pour la journée), à payer qu'au retour.
Mais tu as aussi Mini Siam, toujours sur Sukhumvit Road mais à Pattaya même, à la sortie, direction Bangkok
C'est un parc qui regroupe, en deux parties, d'une part, les monuments du monde entier et d'autre part, les monument de Thaïlande...
Qui donne ne doit jamais s'en souvenir.

1000 bahts aller-retour BKK-Pattaya en moto peut-être...Même en négociant bien j'en doute très fortement, 500 bahts pour un trajet ça couvre à peine la benzine... Et Jomtien est un peu PLUS loin que Pattaya... D'ailleurs si aller et retour coûte 700-800 bahts pour Nong Nooch, qui n'est qu'a 25 KM de Pattaya... A jomtien il y a plein de petits restos partout. Le parc de Nong Nooch existe depuis plus de 30 ans (1973) et MiniSiam date de la fin des années 80, je l'ai visité en 1988 et il venait d'ouvrir. Une des attractions les plus agréable est le Wat Yannasangwararam à 16 KM de Pattaya un peu avant Nong Nooch. Il y a pas mal d'info sur Pattaya en cliquant sur mon nom et en allant sur le site internet que je propose.
J'ai vu tes messages, et je te conseil de visiter le "Wimanmek Palace" à Bangkok, c'est le plus grand palais en teck au monde, ancienne résidence d'un roi thailandais.... Le parc est très beau, une partie des appartements se visite également, mais les visites guidées sont uniquement en anglais (si ma mémoire est bonne).... C'est vraiment un bel endroit, calme et vert, au coeur de BKK. Compter environ 2 heures pour la visite.
Sinon, il y a la maison de Jim Thompson qui est également très interressante, avec des visites guidées en français et des guides vraiment très sympas... Le tout est situé près du World Trade Center, le quartier des grands centres commerciaux, tu peux donc en profiter pour faire du shopping... Un hotel très bien situé en plein coeur de ce quartier, juste en face du WTC est l'hotel Arnoma (4*), compter env. 15 €/Nuit/personne.

Au vu de toutes les réponse que j'ai reçu, il faudra vraiment envisager un second voyage, et même d'autres pour tout voir. Celui là, je le ferai sans les Tours opérateurs. Un bon guide et les précieuses infos des habitués de ce forums permettent vraiment de se débrouiller.

bonjour,
je reviens d'avoir fait le circuit que tu vas faire, j'ai profité de mes trois jours à jomtien, pour faire une journée à l'île au coraux, tu vas bronzer dans un endroit de rêve, le repas est compris dans le prix de l'option, ensuite nous avons fait une soirée spectacle à l'Alcazar, et pour finir nous avons fait une matinée au jardin botanique pas très loin de jomtien, (voir photos) environ une demie heure de jomtien, le reste du temps, nous l'avons passé dans la piscine de l'hotel tellement il faisait chaud, et nous nous sommes reposés avant de revenir en France.

Vous avez toutes les activités de mer sur place, visite d'îles, crocodile farm...
Soyons clair, je ne défends pas, je relativise.
Vous pouvez sans souci retourner sur Bkk, compter 1h30, en van, taxi, ...vous en aurez pour 1200/1500 bahts.( la différence se fait si votre chauffeur acquitte lui-même ou non les péages routiers).
Vous aurez une ristourne si vous demandez un aller-retour.
Personnellement je transite à BAngkok ( mon épouse est de l'esan), et Pattaya permet de voir la mer pas loin de Bkk.

Jomtiem est tres sympa et j'y suis souvent alle: belle plage, un tas d'excellents restaus autour de Soi 6, seulement quelques bars a fille (et non pas le spectacle ecoeurant de Pattaya, la poubelle des tares sexuels occidentaux), donc un minimum de laisses pour compte alcooliques/vulgaires/grossiers, et un tas de choses a faire : sports nautiques, tennis, karting (excellent), l'excursion aux iles en face de Pattaya, etc. Le spectacle de travestis de Pattaya vaut bien l'Alcazar de Paris (ou ce que c'etait du temps de JM Riviere)! Par contre, si la plage n'est pas votre truc, je ne vois vraiment pas pourquoi vs allez par la-bas vu que, a part la plage et sauter des filles, ca ne justifie en aucun cas 3 jours! Vous devriez aller a Kanchanaburi, ou il y a tant a voir qu'on peut y passer 1 semaine sans s'ennuyer (1h30 de bus ouest de Bangkok)
Jomtiem-Bangkok, c'est normalement 1000 baht ALLER, pas AR; toutefois, ca m'est arrive de negocier a 800. Si vs y allez pour la journee, negocier avec le chauffeur car de tte facon il doit rentrer

je sais que ce post est très ancien, mais il apparait toujours en premiere lecture. Il me semble donc important d'y apporter quelques précisions.
Je pense connaître bien la thailande et j'y séjourne plusieurs fois par an depuis 7 ans maintenant.
A Jomtien très souvent ! Pattaya capitale du tourisme sexuel beaucoup plus discret qu'à Bangkok ! Je ris ! A Pattaya, pas de ping pong show , ou autres shows très sexuel, certes il y a de la prostitution, meme si cela choque les puritains européens, ici elle est affichée, pas cachée et sordide comme dans nos capitales européennes.
Pour ce qui est des activités touristiques à faire a Jomtien et ses environs, c'est comme dans toutes les stations balnéaires de notre planète, elles sont axées vers la mer (et oui c est ça la plage).
Pour ma part en 7 ans de visites dans cette région, je ne suis jamais allé voir une prostituée, je n'évite pas leur quartier, mais Pattaya est grand et si l on tombe dessus c est qu on le cherhce (tentations innavouables peut etre).
Pour le shopping il y a la aussi des grands mall comme a BKK.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.

For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??
