Je suis étudiante et j'ai été accepté à l'université de l'UQAM de Montréal pour continuer ma maîtrise d'histoire au sujet des peuples Autochtones. Mon sujet d'étude sera très certainement "les mutations socioculturelles des Mohawk au 19e s.", bien que je sois passionnée par l'histoire des peuples natifs nord-américain de manière générale, au-delà de leurs diversités culturelles.
Bref, je pars avec un petit capital et j'aimerais savoir à combien s'élève environ le salaire pour un travail étudiant afin de me faire une idée du coût de la vie (si je pourrais m'en sortir aisément en payant un loyer d'environ 600 dollars, pour manger et avoir du temps pour mes études).
De plus, j'aurais aimé avoir des renseignements concernant les animaux domestiques car j'ai constaté que beaucoup de propriétaires d'immeubles n'acceptaient pas les chiens. En outre, je sais qu'il faut avoir un permis à Montréal mais je n'ai pas trouvé à combien s'élevait celui-ci : ce serait pour un chien de type labrador. J'aimerais vraiment ne pas me séparer de mon chien et je crains d'y être contrainte pour raisons financières ou parce que je ne trouverais pas de propriétaires acceptant les animaux domestiques.

Salut à toi. Pour travailler en tant qu'étudiant français à Montréal, tu dois obtenir une espèce de dérogation donné par la fac il me semble, seulement il te la donne qu'après la première session, et seulement si tu as obtenu de bon résultats. Enfin bon, ca a peut-être changé depuis ;) Avec un job d'étudiant, tu peux gagner 9$ de l'heure
Sinon 600$ pour un loyer, c'est largement suffisant, tu peux même t'en sortir pour beaucoup moins en collocation, ce qui est très très répandu ici. Pour ton chien, il est vrai que la majorité des proprios refuses les animaux malheureusement, mais il est tjr possible de trouver la perle rare.
Pour le coût de la vie, dit toi que tu fait avec 1$ là bas, ce que tu fait pour 1€ en France (et que 1€=1.50$cad...) mais attention, les salaires sont aussi moins importants qu'en France ;)

Pour Dyke : il faut savoir qu'au Canada, et au Québec entre autres, les toutous et minets sont une rareté et que l'Autorité des casquettes bleues veille jalousement à la propreté des rues... et verbalise gaillardement tout propriétaire d'animal qui aurait eu la très mauvaise idée de ne pas mettre toutou en laisse...
Sur un tout autre sujet, et sans aucun désir de diminuer ton enthousiasme... : je suppose que tu auras le visa de séjour/travail idoine pour ton projet ?

Je suis d'accord avec la situation des chiens à Montréal, difficile de se trouver un proprio qui les accepte....et je comprends. Un labrador a besoin d'espace et ce n'est pas les petits balcons de Mtl qui sauront satisfaire son besoin de liberté. Mon fils a un labrador noir et il a dû louer en campagne car malgré toutes ses recherches, il n'a rien trouvé à Montréal. Lorsqu'il a voyagé de Whistler à Montréal, il a même dû coucher dans son camion car les proprios de motels n'acceptaient pas les chiens. Au mois de mars, pas trop trop chaud 🤪.
Je me rappelle ma très grande surprise lorsque, il y a de ça quelques années, je me suis retrouvée dans un restaurant à Lyon où les chiens étaient couchés à côté de leurs maîtres, je n'ai vraiment pas aimé.

C'est comme partout ma chère, et le Québec n'échappe pas à la règle.
Pour que tu sois totalement "au courant", sache que, pour une certaine partie des Québécois, les Français sont merveilleusement accueillis quand ils viennent en touristes, mais déjà un peu moins quand ils viennent vivre ici...
Pour répondre à tes questions, le chien va en effet être un problème. On n'aime pas les animaux ici. Ou alors tenus en laisse 24/24, dans des parcs aménagés de 100 m2 ou loin des habitations.
Pour le budget, dis-toi que le coût de la vie est semblable à celui qu'il y a en France.
Prends comme repère 1$ = 1€ et ne fais pas l'erreur de convertir les $CAD en € et penser que tout est bon marché. Parce que quand tu seras ici, tu gagneras des $CAD, pas des €...
UQAM = Université du Québec à Montréal, donc pas besoin de spécifier "Montréal", c'est ce que voulait dire Nefer 😉
Il n'y a pas de "salaire étudiant", tout dépend de ce que tu fais comme job et du nombre d'heure par semaine, bien entendu la plupart des étudiants font des petits boulots qui sont payés au salaire minimum (9$) parfois un peu plus. Certains étudiants ont la chance cependant de décrocher des boulots plus payants voire très payants, mais quand tu es étranger ce sont des postes + difficiles à avoir donc comptes y pas trop.
Attention: il est très tentant d'augmenter ses heures de travail pour mieux arrondir ses fins de mois, mais cela se fait au détriment des études...et pour garder ton statut au Canada, tu dois conserver une bonne moyenne scolaire. Le permis de travail pour les étudiants ne permet que 20h de boulot par semaine, mais 20h me semble beaucoup quand on fait des études de 2e cycle.
Pour le loyer, essaie de trouver des colocs afin de réduire tes frais. Évite les quartiers chers (ex: Plateau, Centre-Sud). Pour trouver des colocs, très facile tu consultes les babillards des universités (il y a 4 unif à Montréal).
Canadagoose a bien expliqué pour l'argent, ne fait surtout pas l'erreur de croire que 1$ = 1 euro, c'est la catastrophe assurée...Ne pas oublier d'ajouter mentalement les taxes (environ 13%) au prix affiché dans les magasins. Autre chose...il faudra renoncer sérieusement aux fromages importés, très, très cher ici. Un truc: si tu as des manuels d'unif à acheter, il est relativement facile d'en acheter des usagés et de payer moins cher, durant mes études c'est ce que je faisais et j'ai pu économiser pas mal de $.

Comme toi je pars à l'automne étudier à Montréal, et cette fois ci je laisse mon monstre chez mes parents. C'est difficile mais mieux pour nous deux.

Je suis française comme toi. Un certain nombre de mes amis français sont repartis parce qu'ils ont cru que le Québec serait comme la France (c'est facile de le croire avec le partage de la même langue). Ils n'ont pas cherché à comprendre l'histoire de ce pays avant leur départ et ont été vexé de ne pas être accueillis à bras ouvert.
N'hésite pas à faire des recherches à ce sujet (tu as un certain entrainement, n'est ce pas ?).
Aussi, met ta susceptibilité entre parenthèses: tu seras à l'étranger et les locaux ne prendront pas la peine de bien t'expliquer les us et coutumes s'ils sentent une "réticence" de ta part. En clair, utilise tes réflexes de (future) historienne pour comprendre et t'adapter à une société distincte. Les québécois nous trouvent trop facilement arrogants, et parfois avec raison.

After living for many years in the West (Belgium, Italy, Switzerland),
I’ve decided to return and settle in Cameroon, my home country.
