Le voyage se précise, mais il y a tellement de choses à voir que je peine à faire un parcours définitif.Je sais que c'est un choix cornélien, mais si vous deviez éliminer une des visites mentionnées dans le titre, ....ce serait laquelle?? Sachant que nous allons faire le "tour" de l'île, que les ados tiennent vraiment à visiter la péninsule de Snaefelsness, que j'ai déjà éliminé Kverkfjöll (entre autres...), et que nos 2 petites semaines nous semblent vraiment courtes (ET PAS MOYEN DE FAIRE PLUS! ZUT!). J'ai lu sur certains carnets de route que Kerlingarfjöll semble encore plus spectaculaire que Landamannaugar, et moins "peuplé touristiquement" (nous sommes aussi des touristes, donc cette remarque est presque déplacée...)Autre petite question précise: y a-t-il d'autres geysers que le Strokkur, même tout petits? et où?La décision a été prise en famille: nous camperons, ceci nous laissera plus de souplesse dans les visites et excursions. Mais au cas où nous serions tous frigorifiés ou mouillés de partout, pensez-vous qu'entre le 26 juin et le 10 juillet nous ayons une chance de trouver un hébergement au jour le jour? Dans les AJ? les farms? Guesthouses?...Hôtels?Lorsque nous serons ds le cercle d'Or, nous pensions rejoindre le Landamannaugar, y rester une journée entière, et le lendemain, suivant les conditions d'ouverture de routes, "redescendre" sur Hvolsvöllur par le nord, puis l'ouest du Myrdalsjökull, passant par la F208, Eldgia, F233, F210, F261, ceci afin de voir quand même les chutes de Seljalandsfoss, Skogafos, et la petite ville de VIk. Il semble y avoir de nombreux gués. A combien de temps peut-on estimer ce parcours-piste de 130-140 km? Serait-il préférable de passer par l'est du glacier, par la Axlarfoss (=F210 ds l'autre sens), rejoindre Vik, et faire un aller-retour sur Seljalandsfoss?J'ai déjà parcouru le Lonely Planet, le Routard, et le Gallimard ds tous les sens, sans compter les dizaines de forum et carnets tous plus beaux et palpitants (aïe Régis, tu as eu chaud! Euh, non, plutôt froid!), mais les réponses ne me confortent pas dans mes choix.

ben déjà, comme tu t'en doutes, tu as eu le nez creux pour choisir comme destination : l'Islande !!!! 😛
Donc si je comprends bien, vous y allez pour 15 jours là bas ? vous voulez visiter le Laki, Askja, Kerlingarfjoll, Myvatn, Landmannalaugar, Snaefelsness, ... en gros faire le tour de l'île + une virée dans les hauts plateaux du centre ? j'ai bien peur que 15 jours ne soient pas assez suffisants pour tout faire, d'où effectivement ta question !!! (comme tu as pu le voir, ça m'a pris 3 semaines bien remplies pour faire uniquement le tour via le centre de l'île sans passer au Snaefelsness). c'est un choix très compliqué à faire, ... car effectivement (c'est un avis perso) si il ne fallait en garder qu'1 ce serait les Kerlingarfjoll, mais ça ne tient qu'à moi mais le Laugar offre aussi une palette de couleurs et des paysages totalement differents que les Kerlingarfjoll, en fait c'est pas comparable. les 5 sites que tu proposes sont totalments differents les uns des autres, aucuns ne se ressemblent, il serait trop facile d'éliminer le Krafla, car c'est le site qui va te prendre le moins de temps à visiter sur les 5, donc c'est pas lui qui va te bouffer du temps, et pour le reste, je laisse aux autres forumeurs le délicat problème à résoudre !!!! moi, je ne sais pas trop quoi te dire, car je garderai tout !!!, evidement ma réponse va pas faire beaucoup avancer ta reflexion.
Oui, il existe d'autres geysers que le Strokkur, mais qui ne prennent pas du tout la même forme ni le même jet que ce dernier, nottament à Hveravellir, ils sont bien sûr beaucoup plus petits, je crois bien qu'il y en a d'autres mais je ne me souviens plus où.
Je ne peux pas te répondre sur le logement car je n'ai fait que du camping.
Oui effectivement la piste passant par le nord du Myrdalsjokull est truffé de bons gros gués assez délicats, je ne l'ai pas prise mais beaucoup de carnets de voyages confirment cela, donc il serait préférable de passer par l'est du glacier, de plus la une fois attrapé la N1, ça ira assez vite, car cette route est très roulante.
Bon, Valerie, je suppose que c'est de mon carnet de voyage dont tu parles 😉 car des Régis qui sont allés en Islande, il ne doit pas y en avoir des masses !!! je n'aime pas trop m'éttaler sur ce que j'ai vécu, et puis c'est pas le sujet de ce post. 😉 cela dit tu as raison, il faut souligner le magnifique travail des forumeurs qui ont réalisés de superbes carnets de route sur l'Islande, nottament ceux de Christian et Marie-Françoise, celui de Yann, ceux de David et quelques autres vraiment sympas !!!!

je pense qu'il faut etre souple en islande à cause de la meteo
nous aussi nous avions prevu d'aller camper à Kerlingarfjöll et y rester une journée mais la meteo en a decidé autrement (pluie brouillard temps glacial)
par contre à la fin ils annoncaient une semaine de grand beau (et oui à existe) et nous avons foncé dans les fjords de l'extreme ouest
en camping c'est d'autant plus facile d'etre souple
des geysers il y en a vers mytvan (Namaskard)
sur une carte je notais tout ce que je veux voir et ensuite on decidait au dernier moment
1/ Tu n'as qu'à supprimer Reykjavik, si ce sont les sites naturels qui vous attirent. 😏
2/ Autre geyser, connais pas… Mais cascade d'eau chaude, miam 😛
3/ Hébergements au jour le jour en cas de mauvais temps --> très peu probable que vous trouviez à cette période.
4/ La zone du Nord du Myrdalsjökull (F210 ou Fjallabaksleid Sydri), que ce soit vers l'Ouest ou l'Est comporte des gués profonds, parfois avec des bancs de sable mou plus ou moins mouvants, je n'irais pas dans ce coin avec un 4x4 de location quel qu'il soit non préparé, sauf après une période très sèche, ce qui est rare en Islande.😉
Axlarfoss est méconnue, c'est une très jolie cascade.
Mais avec un 4x4 de location, je rejoindrais Vik par la F208 qui est très belle, plus fréquentée et moins dangereuse au niveau gués, bien qu'il y en ait beaucoup.
Ensuite, l'aller-retour Seljalanfoss est une éventualité, mais pas impératif non plus puisque tu en es à devoir supprimer des visites.

Vous l'aurez pour vous tous seuls mais il est moins spectaculaire que le Strokkur.
Quant à tes choix, je ne peux t'aider à trancher car nous ne sommes pas allés sur tous les sites que tu indiques.

Personne ne veut rien supprimer! C'est ce que je pensais: il y a vraiment des sites incontournables! Donc, la météo décidera pour nous.
Pour amadouer un mari adorable mais qui craint un peu cette vie de camping spartiate (c'est clair, ce ne sont pas les conditions de camping que nous connaissons du sud de la France en juillet!), nous allons couper la poire (et l'ìle!!😇) en deux!
Après une première nuit ds du solide -car nous arriverons tard, 23h30- nous ferons 5 jours jusqu'à Myvatn en nuits-camping, 3 jours en nuit-guesthouse à Myvatn, et 5 jours en nuit-camping ds l'autre sens. Et on partira ds le sens dicté par la météo!! On s'arrêtera au gré des coups-de-coeur. Ainsi, j'espère que tout le monde y trouvera son compte. Et que je trouverai encore de la place "au chaud" qq part autour de Myvatn!!
Je penserai à vous tous, forumeurs islandais assidus, lorsque nous serons là bas!

Comme Pierre , je te déconseille les pistes au Nord du Myrdarsjökull . En 2 jours je n'y ai vu à peine une dizaine de 4x4 , tous islandais ou des continentaux avec leurs propres véhicules bien préparés : aucun 4x4 de location.
Ce coin est absolument somptueux, le Maelifellssandur est carrément sublime mais les gués sur la F210-F261 peuvent être très difficile à traverser . Même sans beaucoup d'eau, certaines sorties de gués sont très abruptes et un Rav4 ou équivalent n'est pas vraiment fait pour ça.
Le choix entre tous ces sites est cornélien.... Kerlingarfjöll : à faire que s'il fait beau car en cas de pluie , le terrain est très gras et dangereux et il très facile de s'y perdre dans le brouillard ( altitude ). Landmannalaugar : beaucoup de monde en bas mais site immense et à 30mn de marche il n'y a plus beaucoup de monde, ne pas hésiter à monter au sommet d'au moins d'un de ces 2 monts, le Blanakur ou le Brennisteinsalda, ou pousser le marche encore une bonne 1/2 heure après le Brennisteinsalda pour atteindre les zones de sources chaudes ( 3/4 d'heure en dessous du refuge Hrafntinnusker ).
Dans le lot de sites à voir , j'ajoute le chute de Detifoss qui est pour moi l'une des plus spectaculaires d'Islande.
15 jours c'est trop court , il faudra y retourner au moins 2 ou 3 fois !!!😉😉

Nous avons procédé comme Marie31: mis PLEIN de points rouges sur les lieux intéressants. Il y en a beaucoup. On dirait des confettis tombés sur la carte (il y a carnaval chez nous dès demain, ce doit être pour ça!😛)
A ce sujet, pour ceux qui cherchent une carte d'Islande, j'ai suivi les conseils d'un forumeur (je ne sais plus qui!): j'ai commandé la carte ICELAND, THE ROUGH GUIDE MAP au 1:425'000. Elle est légèrement plastifiée, donc solide, et sur le site de bookdepositary.com, elle n'est que 5, 45 euros, frais de port compris!!
Ceci mis à part, nous éviterons le nord du glacier selon les conseils des forumeurs islandais, je crois que c'est plus prudent.

nous avons fait un voyage en Islande en août 2007 durant 3 semaines (location d'un 4x4 à Reykjavik) , et prévoyons d'y revenir de nos propres moyens en juillet 2011. Camping pendant 3 semaines, dans le froid ou sous la pluie ou dans le vent...je ne veux pas décourager, mais l'Islande, c'est ça et ça se fait...(et j'arrive à la cinquantaine...)
Personnellement, le site magique a été l'arrivée et l'ascension (petite) au Laki..., site à ne surtout pas éliminer de votre périple!!

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.
I’m also guessing that paying to access Wengen or Mürren only makes sense if we’re staying there for a few days, right?
- Is the road through the narrow valley of the White Lütschine toward Lauterbrunnen and beyond still worth it in terms of views and scenery?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.
We should’ve added a stop between Salzburg and Garmisch, but the hotels are already booked.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.
This route means renting a car in Finland and dropping it off in Norway. My initial searches are showing rental rates that are... astronomical—about three times the price compared to returning it at the starting point.
I’m guessing I’m not the only one wanting to visit both countries. Are there any great tips to drastically reduce the cost of renting a car?

I’m sharing my draft itinerary with you because I just booked our flight tickets, and I feel like it’s quite late in the season. So, I’d like to be sure about my stops before reserving the hotels. I’ll be traveling alone with my two adult children. We want to prioritize outdoor walks, avoid too many indoor visits (both for budget and preference), and not spend too much time on the road.
D1: Arrival at 9 AM in Malaga, day in Malaga and overnight stay
D2: Head straight to Nerja (1-hour drive) and spend the night there
D3: Head straight to Granada (1.5-hour drive), spend the day and night there
D4: Granada. Visit the Alhambra (Nasrid Palaces tour at 5 PM) and spend the night
D5: Head to Ronda (2.5-hour drive) and spend the night
D6: White Villages and overnight in Ronda
D7: Head straight to the Costa del Sol (e.g., Estepona), spend the day and night there
D8: Return to Malaga to catch our flight
There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.
Questions:
Since the Alhambra visit is only at 5 PM, and we’d already have the day to explore Granada, would arriving the day before be a mistake? Or should we skip this day and dedicate it elsewhere (Costa del Sol? Head toward Tabernas?)? The old town appeals to me, but maybe the Sacromonte neighborhood isn’t essential...
Same question for Ronda: should we dedicate a full day to it, or combine Ronda and the White Villages in one day?
Note that we love wandering around villages outside, so that might answer my question! :)
Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...
