Hi,

This summer, we’re planning a family trip to Corsica.

We’ve chosen Sari Solenzara because we want to combine: sea, mountain hikes, natural pools, canyoning, and peace and quiet. Does this choice seem like a good one to you?

Second question: which airport should we prioritize to have the easiest roads to access?

Thanks in advance for your tips! :-)

I live 20 km from Solenzara. Great tip for day trips and doing various activities. About the airport question, I don’t understand.

For Solenzara, it's Bastia. A long stretch of straight road along the sea.. For me, it's not really the best choice. 😕. I did part of my military service in Solenzara! I prefer the western part of the island, especially the northwest. La Balagne. Arriving via Calvi airport. But from Solenzara, you can also go just about anywhere. Aiguilles de Bavella, beaches of Porto-Vecchio, and plenty of other things...

Hi there! 😊

Sari-Solenzara is a great choice if you like variety: sea, mountains, hikes, natural pools, canyoning—you can really do it all without driving too much. Plus, it’s quieter than the south, which is a big plus in the middle of summer!

That said, to be honest, it’s not the most typical or "postcard-perfect" area of Corsica (I lived there for two years). The landscapes are pretty but a little less striking than in the south or Balagne.

If you're looking for something a bit more picturesque:

Balagne (Calvi, Île-Rousse, etc.) is stunning, with its hilltop villages, turquoise-water beaches, and a truly authentic Corsican vibe.

The south (Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Palombaggia, etc.) has gorgeous beaches, but it’s also the most touristy area in summer.

Airport tips: For Sari-Solenzara, Bastia airport is the easiest option, with a direct and relatively smooth road.

And if you want to explore more widely, Bastia is also a great gateway: accessible roads, varied landscapes, proximity to Cap Corse, Castagniccia, Balagne, the center of the island, and an easy drive down to the south.

Have a great trip!

Re... For the rental, would it be near Solenzara (T10, port...) or more in the mountains? There are two closest airports: Poretta or Figari. 😉 Or the military base at Travu and the flying club in Ghisonaccia 😉.

Thanks for your feedback! :-) We were aiming for a rental pretty close to the sea. After reading the various comments, I think we’ll head toward the Calvi area instead.
