Hello, I’d like to spend 4 weeks in Santo Domingo next January, preferably near the beach for a relaxed, no-frills stay. I’m a senior, and my goal is simply rest and relaxation. Could you share any tried-and-true tips to help me out? Best regards

Hello,

I think we should start by correcting a mistake: there’s no beach in Santo Domingo.

The closest beach to the capital (and therefore very busy on weekends) is Boca Chica.

Boca Chica is about a dozen kilometers from Las Américas Airport in Santo Domingo. That’s why I spend my first or last night (or both) there when I arrive or depart via Santo Domingo’s airport.

In the past, Boca Chica was a very lively tourist town, but that’s no longer the case since the two biggest all-inclusive hotels there closed. Now, there are few tourists left—just one modest-sized all-inclusive hotel, which I can’t recommend.

When I stay overnight in Boca Chica, I go to a small hotel (22 rooms) that’s very clean (you could eat off the floor…), has a pool, is very secure with 24/7 security (you have to ring to get in), and is run by a friendly multilingual hotel owner (who speaks French, among other languages). Best of all, it’s quiet (no noisy surroundings). But it’s just a few minutes’ walk from everything: the beach, a supermarket, shops, restaurants, bars, a currency exchange, and frequent local buses to the capital, etc.

Reasonable prices: for a double room, depending on the category, expect around 2,200 to 3,000 pesos per night (about 30 € to 40 €). It also has what I’d call family suites—large enough for groups of 6—which are significantly more expensive. Hot water for showers, air conditioning, and the owner is always ready to help.

You can book with a simple WhatsApp message.

If you’re interested, I’ll send you the details via PM so I don’t break the forum’s no-advertising rules.

My last night there was yesterday, September 18, 2025.

Best regards
