bonsoir a force d'hesiter sur les hotels je ne vais plus rien trouver!!qui connait le nai len park??et vu que l'on reste 1semaine, je souhaiterais trouver un hotel avec une belle piscine(pas un bain de pied ) car j'ai l'impression que les hotels style GRAND SUKMUVIT ou BANYAN TREE ou GRAND HYATT ne possedent que des couloirs de piscine et si il y a 10clients, aucune place pour s'assoir....donc si on peut me passer l'info je vais reserver rapide..

Voilà la photo de la piscine du Sheraton Grande, reprise dans un magazine, la vue est prise depuis la suite Rama, qui elle dispose de son jacuzzi extérieur, 2ème photo et la 3ème photo
et l emporium suites...ca ne me derange pas d avoir un super appartment + grand que tous les hotels 4 ou 5 etoiles...Avec une cuisine 😉, surtout avec l immense piscine, spa...et tous les shoppings à dispo sans sortir du building.
tu as vraiment des aprioris infondés et surprenant (piscine du Grand Hyatt un couloir !!)...en plus des gouts de luxes...mais c est toujours trop cher !!

Et voilà d'autre photo du Hyatt. Les chambres côtés Royal sport club et partiellement avec vue piscine, dont la mienne, offre de superbe vue. La dernière photo est depuis la brochure de l'hôtel.
Regarde sur Google ne serait ce que les photos ...... le Shangri La est un gros bloc de béton en bordure du Chao Praya, tandis que le MARRIOTT est une vraie oasis de verdure en bordure également du fleuve, et à taille humaine ...... et lorsque tu regardes dans le vote des internautes, le MARRIOTT est en tête des hôtels de luxe sur Bangkok actuellement, alors que le SHANGRI LA ne figure qu'en huitième position ...... et je pense aussi qu'au niveau tarif, le MARRIOTT est bien positionné ....... sans parler du service, mais bon arrêtons là car je ne voudrais pas qu'on croit que je fais de la pub pour cet hôtel ..... on a simplement été enchanté de notre séjour et on y retournera

L'hotel Manhatan est bien et pas cher en plus. Une belle piscine, salle de bain privé, téléphone, télé et le petit déjeuné fournis. Sans compter les services de chambre qui sont gratuits.

et de la taille, de la forme, de la couleur et des gens qui frequentent la piscine....tu fais ta reservation.
je n ose imaginer ton post pour savoir que faire à bangkok, ou manger (dans quel restaurant...la taille des tables, les assiettes bien remplies....le sourire des serveuses), comment circuler.....😛
Je ne pense pas du tout etre grincheux, ni ferme sur les autres mais pour un sejour dans un hotel du modeste au luxueux au palace j'ai sejourne dans toutes les categories il y a peu de temps encore j'etais tres souvent sur Las Vegas des semaines par an et je resider dans tous les beaux palaces de la ville pour une raison que j'etais guest permanent dans plusieurs palace mais moi dans les hotels j'y passe peu de temps, pour se reposer, faire une petite baignade, prendre une boisson au bar et hop ballades dans les environs, alors la taille de la piscine, le nombre de transat et des draps de bains, l'epaisseur des eponges des peignoirs dans l'ensemble le standart des hotels de luxe est identique à ce jour, ce qui m'importe c'est le spa car c'est un vrai moment de detente avant la soiree. tu veux savoir pour les restos no probleme...nous sommes deja allés a BANGKOK et manger sur les troittoirs des nouilles sauttées, une petite biére cela fait l'affaire, mais prendre un verre a l'ORIENTAL n'est pas désagrable, aller se ballader les marchés de nuit tres sympa aussi, et retrouver un bel hotel fait parti du plaisir de voyager en ASIE(ce que l'on peut difficilement s'offrir en FRANCE).merci quand meme pour l'info pour le CRILLON et autre, mais le depaysement c'est pas ça.....

quand aux sites des hotels on est pas abrutis: on a deja parcouru et vu toutes les photos.mais des fois les brochures ne sont pas toujours ce que l'on trouve sur place!!!

A la lecture de ce post quelque peu mouvementé, voici mon avis sur la question.
Le pense sincèrement que le Marriott resort & spa est le meilleur des compromis possible sur Bkk.
En effet, lorsque tu pars de France en Hiver, tu arrives avec un décallage horaire importante et une chaleur accablante. Cet hôtel est en bordure du fleuve et a des espaces cohérents pour la verdure. Il n'y a pas de buiding aux environs et donc constitué comme un hôtel de bord de mer. La piscine est spacieuse et bordé d'une végétation luxuriante, les chambres sont vastes et le cadre des restaurants et les repas sont divins (Meilleur pat-thaï de ma vie). Sans parlé du spa qui est de toute beauté.
Lorsque tu pars le matin, tu es achemniné par bateau local jusqu'au prochain arrêt de bateau bus qui te déposera sur devant le grand palais (20mn environ coût nul en +) Une fois ta balade terminée, retourner dans ce lieu fût un véritable enchantement.
A l'époque (en 2003), j'avais payé 100 € la chambre en BB.
En fi de compte nous serons dans le meme hotel car moi aussi avec mon epouse nous avons reserver au Shangri mais pour fin Janvier 06. Bon sejour. Daniel
C'est un peu plus cher maintenant ..... on a payé 140 USD la nuit, mais c'est vrai que cet hôtel est vraiment à part et les restaurants, notamment le japonais, sont divins ..... et le spa, un des meilleurs endroits au monde que je connaisse pour la relaxation ...... j'ai vraiment hâte de retourner dans cet hôtel .....
et bien a quelques jours pres, nous y allons du 22 au 24 fevrier, nous aurions pu
nous rencontrer avec nos époux respectifs.
en attendant on continue les infos pour d'autres destinations

comme on reste 8 jours sur BANGKOK on a reservé 4 nuits au SHANGRI LA et 4 nuits au BANYAN TREE on a eu un super prix par discount-thailande-hotels pour 4 nuits en TREE CLUB =1 nuit gratuite=moyenne de la chambre:148 euros en club..pas mal non???

Super sejour, tu as de beaux hotels car 8 jours à Bangkok c'est peut etre un peu lourd, moi je fait des sejours de 3 jours je part dans le coin et reviens 3 jours avant de rentrer sur la France, pour plaisanter je ne sais pas si le Crillon discutte les prix mais a l'Intercontinantal oui...
Dans differents hotels dans le monde disont des Palaces ou 5 etoiles il est possible d'avoir des prix vraiment cannon...le seul hotel ou j'ai pas pu negocier et ont ma fait comprendre que c'etait pas des marchands de tapis et si j'avais pas d'argent il fallait aller ailleurs c'est "la Mamounia " à Marrakech. LA MAMOUNIA on y a pris un pot...superbe mais comme c'est un des plus beaux hotels du monde(ils ne bradent pas) mais les hotels en ASIE n'ont rien a lui envier.nous allons souvent a BALI et l'hotellerie est tres haute gamme et les prix sont négociables(NIKO, INTERCONTINENTAL, SHERATON etc....
...... il faut toujours marchander, car quand on sait que nous autres hôteliers on balance déjà de 20 à 40% de commission aux T.O justement ..... il est donc plus rentable de faire une ristourne directement au client de passage ..... surtout si il reste plusieurs nuits, c'est toujours mieux que de laisser la chambre libre ......
j'ai eu l occasion il y a quelques annees de passer 4 nuits a la mamounia.je ne payais pas😊c etait une reunion pro.la premiere nuit j ai trouvé le cadre tres beau la piscine grande et belle😉.le 2me jour j ai trouvé que c etait beaucoup moins sympa que mes nuits a la belle etoile dans le temam negara ou ma nuit passe recueilli par des nomades dans le chott el djerid sous une tente qui n etait pas posée la pour les valises a roulettes
a la fin du sejour studieux, ma conclusion etait que je ne connaissais rien du maroc et que la vanité ca revient quand meme assez cher.
mais je souhaite un bon sejour a tous et surtout a ceux qui passeront leur vacances dans des hotels dits de luxe.et surtout essayez de penser en sortant, de donner une piece de 10 baths au clochard unijambiste s il vous reste 😕un peu de monnaie.

pour ce qui est de donner 1piéce a la personne handicapée, tu sais a BALI en sortant d'un resto il y avait en effet un homme uni jambiste comme tu le dis:je suis retournée lui apporter un repas dans 1petite boite;
et l'année ou il y a eu la bombe a BALI la 1ere fois en 93 :j'achetais plein de sarongs et coquillagesaux femmes qui voulaient vendre coute que coutepour pouvoir manger.
et la meilleure façon de les aider a nouveau c'est de retourner dans ce pays ou les gens sont si gentils...
Oui, on se connait un peu à travers nos écrits et je sais que l'on apprécie le même pays, et que de cette façon on a les mêmes attentes du voyage ....
Il ne faut pas faire de conclusions trop hatives et reprocher aux gens qui voyagent dans des hôtels dits de luxe, d'en faire " trop " ..... celà fait partie d'une façon de voyager et n'empêche nullement de partir à la découverte d'un pays et de ses habitants ..... moi même je mélange les deux, beaux hôtels et guesthouses, et j'en retire beaucoup de satisfaction des deux côtés, et comme le dit Marie, celà permet à toute une frange de la population d'avoir un travail correct et de faire vivre d'autres personnes par ricochet ......
Dans cette discussion, il y a un voyageur qui part pour la Thailande et le Cambodge, et il voyage comme moi en mélangeant les deux, et celà ne l'empêche pas à chaque voyage de partir avec des " fournitures " pour les locaux et de s'occuper d'eux une fois sur place ...... c'est quelquechose que l'on a au fond de soi, et cette perception à saisir la détresse qui habite la population d'un pays est palpable par tous ceux qui ont l'âme ouverte aux émotions rencontrées, que ce soit dans un bel hôtel ou dans une guesthouse minable ..... celà ne change rien à la grandeur d'âme et à la gentillesse d'esprit qui peut habiter tout à chacun .....
Je pense que tu le sais, mais je comprends que cette discussion sur la manière de trouver un hôte de luxe pour séjourner quelquepart peut parfois en énerver quelques uns ..... celà est un peu puéril, mais fait partie néanmoins des attentes de certains voyageurs, et il faut le respecter dés lors que ceux ci respectent les populations rencontrées et l'environnement dans lequel ceux ci évoluent .....
Je pense que tous ceux qui ont participés à cette discussion font partie des voyageurs conscients de tout celà .....

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
